Exodus 40:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Then the Lord said to Moses,
2 "On the first day of the first month, set up the Holy Tent, that is, the Meeting Tent.
3 Put the Box of the Agreement in the Holy Tent. Cover the Box with the curtain.
4 Then bring in the table. Put the things on the table that should be there. Then put the lampstand in the Tent. Put the lamps on the lampstand in the right places.
5 Put the golden altar for offering incense in the Tent in front of the Box of the Agreement. Then put the curtain at the entrance to the Holy Tent.
6 "Put the altar for burning offerings in front of the entrance of the Holy Tent, that is, the Meeting Tent.
7 Put the bowl between the Meeting Tent and the altar. Put water in the bowl.
8 Set up the wall of curtains around the courtyard. Then put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.
9 "Use the anointing oil and anoint the Holy Tent and everything in it. When you put the oil on these things, you will make them holy.
10 Anoint the altar for burning offerings. Anoint everything on the altar. You will make the altar holy. It will be very holy.
11 Then anoint the bowl and the base under it to make these things holy.
12 "Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Meeting Tent. Wash them with water.
13 Then put the special clothes on Aaron. Anoint him with the oil and make him holy. Then he can serve me as a priest.
14 Then put the clothes on his sons.
15 Anoint the sons in the same way that you anointed their father. Then they can also serve me as priests. When you anoint them, they will become priests. That family will continue to be priests for all time to come."
16 Moses obeyed the Lord. He did everything that the Lord commanded him.
17 So the Holy Tent was set up at the right time. It was the first day of the first month during the second year from the time they left Egypt.
18 Moses set up the Holy Tent just as the Lord had said. He put the bases down first. Then he put the frames on the bases. Then he put the braces on and set up the posts.
19 After that, Moses put the outer tent over the Holy Tent. Then he put the covering over the outer tent. He did these things just as the Lord had commanded.
20 Moses took the Agreement and put it in the Holy Box. He put the poles on the Box and put the mercy-cover on it.
21 Then Moses put the Holy Box into the Holy Tent. He hung the curtain in the right place to protect it. In this way he protected the Box of the Agreement behind the curtain just as the Lord had commanded him.
22 Then Moses put the table in the Meeting Tent on the north side of the Holy Tent. He put it in the Holy Place, in front of the curtain.
23 Then he put the bread on the table before the Lord. He did this just as the Lord had commanded him.
24 Then Moses put the lampstand in the Meeting Tent on the south side of the Tent, across from the table.
25 Then Moses put the lamps on the lampstand before the Lord. He did this just as the Lord had commanded him.
26 Then Moses put the golden altar in the Meeting Tent, in front of the curtain.
27 Then he burned sweet-smelling incense on the altar. He did this as the Lord had commanded him.
28 Then Moses put the curtain at the entrance to the Holy Tent.
29 Moses put the altar for burning offerings at the entrance to the Holy Tent, that is, the Meeting Tent. Then Moses offered a burnt offering on that altar. He also offered grain offerings to the Lord. He did these things just as the Lord had commanded him.
30 Then Moses put the bowl between the Meeting Tent and the altar. He put water in the bowl for washing.
31 Moses, Aaron, and Aaron's sons used this bowl to wash their hands and feet.
32 They washed themselves every time they entered the Meeting Tent. They also washed themselves every time they went near the altar. They did these things just as the Lord commanded Moses.
33 Then Moses set up the curtains around the courtyard of the Holy Tent. He put the altar in the courtyard. Then he put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. So he finished all the work.
34 Then the cloud covered the Meeting Tent and the Glory of the Lord filled the Holy Tent.
35 Moses could not go into the Meeting Tent because the cloud had settled on it, and the Glory of the Lord had filled the Holy Tent.
36 When the cloud rose from the Holy Tent, the Israelites would begin to travel.
37 But when the cloud stayed on the Holy Tent, the people did not try to move. They stayed in that place until the cloud rose.
38 So the cloud of the Lord was over the Holy Tent during the day, and at night there was a fire in the cloud. So all the Israelites could see the cloud while they traveled.

5 And thou shalt set H5414 H853 the altar H4196 of gold H2091 for the incense H7004 before H6440 the ark H727 of the testimony, H5715 and put H7760 H853 the hanging H4539 of the door H6607 to the tabernacle. H4908
6 And thou shalt set H5414 H853 the altar H4196 of the burnt offering H5930 before H6440 the door H6607 of the tabernacle H4908 of the tent H168 of the congregation. H4150
7 And thou shalt set H5414 H853 the laver H3595 between H996 the tent H168 of the congregation H4150 and the altar, H4196 and shalt put H5414 water H4325 therein. H8033
8 And thou shalt set up H7760 H853 the court H2691 round about, H5439 and hang up H5414 H853 the hanging H4539 at the court H2691 gate. H8179
9 And thou shalt take H3947 H853 the anointing H4888 oil, H8081 and anoint H4886 H853 the tabernacle, H4908 and all H3605 that H834 is therein , and shalt hallow H6942 it , and all H3605 the vessels H3627 thereof : and it shall be H1961 holy. H6944
10 And thou shalt anoint H4886 H853 the altar H4196 of the burnt offering, H5930 and all H3605 his vessels, H3627 and sanctify H6942 H853 the altar: H4196 and it shall be H1961 an altar H4196 most holy H6944 H6944 .
11 And thou shalt anoint H4886 H853 the laver H3595 and his foot, H3653 and sanctify H6942 it.
12 And thou shalt bring H7126 H853 Aaron H175 and his sons H1121 unto H413 the door H6607 of the tabernacle H168 of the congregation, H4150 and wash H7364 them with water. H4325
13 And thou shalt put upon H3847 H853 Aaron H175 the H853 holy H6944 garments, H899 and anoint H4886 him , and sanctify H6942 him ; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. H3547
14 And thou shalt bring H7126 his sons, H1121 and clothe H3847 them with coats: H3801
15 And thou shalt anoint H4886 them, as H834 thou didst anoint H4886 H853 their father, H1 that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: H3547 for their anointing H4886 shall surely be H1961 H1961 an everlasting H5769 priesthood H3550 throughout their generations. H1755

17 And it came to pass H1961 in the first H7223 month H2320 in the second H8145 year, H8141 on the first H259 day of the month, H2320 that the tabernacle H4908 was reared up. H6965
18 And Moses H4872 reared up H6965 H853 the tabernacle, H4908 and fastened H5414 H853 his sockets, H134 and set up H7760 H853 the boards H7175 thereof , and put in H5414 H853 the bars H1280 thereof , and reared up H6965 H853 his pillars. H5982
19 And he spread abroad H6566 H853 the tent H168 over H5921 the tabernacle, H4908 and put H7760 H853 the covering H4372 of the tent H168 above H4480 H4605 upon H5921 it; as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
20 And he took H3947 and put H5414 H853 the testimony H5715 into H413 the ark, H727 and set H7760 H853 the staves H905 on H5921 the ark, H727 and put H5414 H853 the mercy seat H3727 above H4480 H4605 upon H5921 the ark: H727
21 And he brought H935 H853 the ark H727 into H413 the tabernacle, H4908 and set up H7760 H853 the veil H6532 of the covering, H4539 and covered H5526 H5921 the ark H727 of the testimony; H5715 as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
22 And he put H5414 H853 the table H7979 in the tent H168 of the congregation, H4150 upon H5921 the side H3409 of the tabernacle H4908 northward, H6828 without H4480 H2351 the veil. H6532
23 And he set H6186 the bread H3899 in order H6187 upon H5921 it before H6440 the LORD; H3068 as H834 the LORD H3068 had commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
24 And he put H7760 H853 the candlestick H4501 in the tent H168 of the congregation, H4150 over against H5227 the table, H7979 on H5921 the side H3409 of the tabernacle H4908 southward. H5045
25 And he lighted H5927 the lamps H5216 before H6440 the LORD; H3068 as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
26 And he put H7760 H853 the golden H2091 altar H4196 in the tent H168 of the congregation H4150 before H6440 the veil: H6532
27 And he burnt H6999 sweet H5561 incense H7004 thereon; H5921 as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
28 And he set up H7760 H853 the hanging H4539 at the door H6607 of the tabernacle. H4908
29 And he put H7760 the altar H4196 of burnt offering H5930 by the door H6607 of the tabernacle H4908 of the tent H168 of the congregation, H4150 and offered H5927 upon H5921 it H853 the burnt offering H5930 and the meat offering; H4503 as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
30 And he set H7760 H853 the laver H3595 between H996 the tent H168 of the congregation H4150 and the altar, H4196 and put H5414 water H4325 there, H8033 to wash H7364 withal .
31 And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 and his sons H1121 washed H7364 H853 their hands H3027 and their feet H7272 thereat: H4480
32 When they went H935 into H413 the tent H168 of the congregation, H4150 and when they came near H7126 unto H413 the altar, H4196 they washed; H7364 as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses. H4872
33 And he reared up H6965 H853 the court H2691 round about H5439 the tabernacle H4908 and the altar, H4196 and set up H5414 H853 the hanging H4539 of the court H2691 gate. H8179 So Moses H4872 finished H3615 H853 the work. H4399
34 Then a cloud H6051 covered H3680 H853 the tent H168 of the congregation, H4150 and the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 filled H4390 H853 the tabernacle. H4908
35 And Moses H4872 was not H3808 able H3201 to enter H935 into H413 the tent H168 of the congregation, H4150 because H3588 the cloud H6051 abode H7931 thereon, H5921 and the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 filled H4390 H853 the tabernacle. H4908
36 And when the cloud H6051 was taken up H5927 from over H4480 H5921 the tabernacle, H4908 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went onward H5265 in all H3605 their journeys: H4550
37 But if H518 the cloud H6051 were not H3808 taken up, H5927 then they journeyed H5265 not H3808 till H5704 the day H3117 that it was taken up. H5927
38 For H3588 the cloud H6051 of the LORD H3068 was upon H5921 the tabernacle H4908 by day, H3119 and fire H784 was H1961 on it by night, H3915 in the sight H5869 of all H3605 the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 throughout all H3605 their journeys. H4550
