Ezekiel 31:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 On the first day of the third month in the eleventh year of exile, the word of the Lord came to me. He said,
2 "Son of man, say this to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and to his people: "'You are so great! Who can I compare you to?
3 Assyria was a cedar tree in Lebanon with beautiful branches, with forest shade, and very tall. Its top was among the clouds!
4 The water made the tree grow. The deep river made the tree tall. Rivers flowed around the place where the tree was planted. Only small streams flowed from that tree to all the other trees of the field.
5 So that tree was taller than all the other trees of the field, and it grew many branches. There was plenty of water, so the tree branches spread out.
6 All the birds of the sky made their nests in the branches of that tree, and all the animals of the field gave birth under the branches of that tree. All the great nations lived under the shade of that tree.
7 The tree was very beautiful. It was so large! It had such long branches. Its roots had plenty of water.
8 Even the cedar trees in God's garden were not as big as this tree. Cypress trees did not have as many branches. Plane trees did not have such branches. No tree in God's garden was as beautiful as this tree.
9 I gave it many branches and made it beautiful. And all the trees in Eden, God's garden, were jealous!'"
10 So this is what the Lord God says: "That tree grew tall. Its top reached up to the clouds. It grew so big that it became proud!
11 So I let a powerful king have that tree. That ruler punished the tree for the bad things it did. I took that tree out of my garden.
12 Strangers—the most terrible people in the world—cut it down and scattered its branches on the mountains and in the valleys. Its broken limbs drifted down the rivers flowing through that land. There was no more shadow under that tree, so all the people left.
13 Now birds live in that fallen tree. Wild animals walk over its fallen branches.
14 "Now, none of the trees by that water will be proud. They will not try to reach the clouds. None of the strong trees that drink that water will brag about being tall, because all of them have been appointed to die. They will all go down into the world below—to Sheol, the place of death. They will join the other people who died and went down into that deep hole."
15 This is what the Lord God says: "I made the people cry on the day that tree went down to Sheol. I covered him with the deep ocean. I stopped its rivers and all the water stopped flowing. I made Lebanon mourn for it. All the trees of the field became sick with sadness for that big tree.
16 I made the tree fall—and the nations shook with fear at the sound of the falling tree. I sent the tree down to the place of death, to join the other people who had gone down into that deep hole. In the past, all the trees of Eden, the best of Lebanon, drank that water. The trees were comforted in the world below.
17 Yes, those trees also went down with the big tree to the place of death. They joined the people who were killed in battle. That big tree made the other trees strong. Those trees had lived under the big tree's shadow among the nations.
18 "Egypt, there were many big and powerful trees in Eden. Which of those trees should I compare you to? They all went down into the world below! And you, too, will join those foreigners in that place of death. You will lie there among the people killed in battle. "Yes, that will happen to Pharaoh and to the crowds of people with him!" This is what the Lord God said.

2 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , speak H559 unto H413 PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS king H4428 NMS of Egypt H4714 EFS , and to H413 PREP his multitude H1995 ; Whom H413 PREP art thou like H1819 in thy greatness H1433 ?
3 Behold H2009 IJEC , the Assyrian H804 GFS was a cedar H730 in Lebanon H3844 with fair H3303 branches H6057 , and with a shadowing H6751 shroud H2793 , and of a high H1362 stature H6967 ; and his top H6788 was H1961 VQQ3FS among H996 W-PREP the thick boughs H5688 .
4 The waters H4325 OMD made him great H1431 , the deep H8415 NMS set him up on high H7311 with H854 PREP her rivers H5104 running H1980 round about H5439 ADV his plants H4302 , and sent out H7971 her little rivers H8585 unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the trees H6086 CMP of the field H7704 D-NMS .
5 Therefore H5921 PREP his height H6967 was exalted H1361 above all H3605 M-CMS the trees H6086 CMP of the field H7704 D-NMS , and his boughs H5634 were multiplied H7235 , and his branches H6288 became long H748 because of the multitude H7227 AMP of waters H4325 , when he shot forth H7971 .
6 All H3605 NMS the fowls H5775 NMS of heaven H8064 D-NMD made their nests H7077 in his boughs H5589 , and under H8478 his branches H6288 did all H3605 NMS the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS bring forth their young H3205 , and under his shadow H6738 dwelt H3427 all H3605 NMS great H7227 AMP nations H1471 NMP .
7 Thus was he fair H3302 in his greatness H1433 , in the length H753 of his branches H1808 : for H3588 CONJ his root H8328 CMS-3MS was H1961 VQQ3MS by H413 PREP great H7227 AMP waters H4325 OMD .
8 The cedars H730 in the garden H1588 of God H430 EDP could not H3808 ADV hide H6004 him : the fir trees H1265 were not like H1819 his boughs H5589 , and the chestnut trees H6196 were H1961 VQQ3MP not H3808 NADV like his branches H6288 ; nor H3808 ADV any H3605 NMS tree H6086 NMS in the garden H1588 of God H430 EDP was like H1819 unto H413 PREP him in his beauty H3308 .
9 I have made H6213 him fair H3303 by the multitude H7230 of his branches H1808 : so that all H3605 NMS the trees H6086 CMP of Eden H5731 GFS , that H834 RPRO were in the garden H1588 of God H430 , envied H7065 him .
10 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; Because H3282 ADV thou hast lifted up H1361 thyself in height H6967 , and he hath shot up H5414 W-VQQ3MS his top H6788 among H413 PREP the thick boughs H5688 , and his heart H3824 is lifted up H7311 in his height H1363 ;
11 I have therefore delivered H5414 him into the hand H3027 B-CFS of the mighty one H352 of the heathen H1471 NMP ; he shall surely deal H6213 with him : I have driven him out H1644 for his wickedness H7562 .
12 And strangers H2114 , the terrible H6184 of the nations H1471 NMP , have cut him off H3772 , and have left H5203 him : upon H413 PREP the mountains H2022 and in all H3605 NMS the valleys H1516 his branches H1808 are fallen H5307 VQQ3MP , and his boughs H6288 are broken H7665 by all H3605 NMS the rivers H650 CMP of the land H776 D-GFS ; and all H3605 NMS the people H5971 of the earth H776 D-GFS are gone down H3381 from his shadow H6738 , and have left H5203 him .
13 Upon H5921 PREP his ruin H4658 shall all H3605 NMS the fowls H5775 NMS of the heaven H8064 D-AMP remain H7931 , and all H3605 NMS the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS shall be H1961 VQQ3MP upon H413 W-PREP his branches H6288 :
14 To the end H4616 L-CONJ that H834 RPRO none H3808 NADV of all H3605 NMS the trees H6086 CMP by the waters H4325 OMD exalt themselves H1361 for their height H6967 , neither H3808 ADV shoot up H5414 their top H6788 among H413 PREP the thick boughs H5688 , neither H3808 ADV their trees H352 stand up H5975 in their height H1363 , all H3605 NMS that drink H8354 water H4325 OMD : for H3588 CONJ they are all H3605 NMS delivered H5414 unto death H4194 LD-NMS , to H413 PREP the nether parts H8482 of the earth H776 GFS , in the midst H8432 B-NMS of the children H1121 of men H120 NMS , with H413 PREP them that go down H3381 to the pit H953 NMS .
15 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; In the day H3117 B-NMS when he went down H3381 to the grave H7585 I caused a mourning H56 : I covered H3680 the deep H8415 NMS for H5921 PREP-3MS him , and I restrained H4513 the floods H5104 thereof , and the great H7227 AMP waters H4325 OMD were stayed H3607 : and I caused Lebanon H3844 to mourn H6937 for H5921 PREP-3MS him , and all H3605 W-CMS the trees H6086 CMP of the field H7704 D-NMS fainted H5969 for H5921 PREP-3MS him .
16 I made the nations H1471 NMP to shake H7493 at the sound H6963 of his fall H4658 , when I cast him down H3381 to hell H7585 with H854 PREP them that descend H3381 into the pit H953 : and all H3605 NMS the trees H6086 CMP of Eden H5731 GFS , the choice H4005 and best H2896 of Lebanon H3844 , all H3605 NMS that drink H8354 water H4325 NMP , shall be comforted H5162 in the nether parts H8482 of the earth H776 B-GFS .
17 They H1992 PPRO-3MP also H1571 CONJ went down H3381 into hell H7585 with H854 PREP-3MS him unto H413 PREP them that be slain H2491 with the sword H2719 NFS ; and they that were his arm H2220 , that dwelt H3427 VQQ3MP under his shadow H6738 in the midst H8432 B-NMS of the heathen H1471 NMP .
18 To H413 PREP whom H4310 IPRO art thou thus like H1819 in glory H3519 and in greatness H1433 among the trees H6086 of Eden H5731 GFS ? yet shalt thou be brought down H3381 with H854 PREP the trees H6086 CMP of Eden H5731 GFS unto H413 PREP the nether parts H8482 of the earth H776 GFS : thou shalt lie H7901 in the midst H8432 B-NMS of the uncircumcised H6189 with H854 PREP them that be slain H2491 by the sword H2719 GFS . This H1931 PPRO-3MS is Pharaoh H6547 EMS and all H3605 W-CMS his multitude H1995 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
