Numbers 11:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The people started complaining about their troubles. The Lord heard their complaints. He heard these things and became angry. Fire from the Lord burned among the people. The fire burned some of the areas at the edge of the camp.
2 So the people cried to Moses for help. He prayed to the Lord and the fire stopped burning.
3 So that place was called Taberah. The people gave the place that name because the Lord caused a fire to burn in their camp.
4 The foreigners who had joined the Israelites began wanting other things to eat. Soon all the Israelites began complaining again. The people said, "We want to eat meat!
5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt. That fish cost us nothing. We also had good vegetables like cucumbers, melons, chives, onions, and garlic.
6 But now we have lost our strength. We never eat anything—only this manna!"
7 (The manna was like small coriander seeds, and it looked like gum from a tree.
8 The people gathered the manna. Then they used rocks to crush it and cooked it in a pot. Or they ground it into flour and made thin cakes with it. The cakes tasted like sweet cakes cooked with olive oil.
9 The manna fell on the ground each night when the ground became wet with dew.)
10 Moses heard the people complaining. People from every family were sitting by their tents and complaining. The Lord became very angry, and this made Moses very upset.
11 He asked the Lord, "Why did you bring this trouble on me? I am your servant. What did I do wrong? What did I do to upset you? Why did you give me responsibility over all these people?
12 You know that I am not the father of all these people. You know that I did not give birth to them. But I must take care of them, like a nurse carrying a baby in her arms. Why do you force me to do this? Why do you force me to carry them to the land that you promised to our fathers?
13 I don't have enough meat for all these people! And they continue complaining to me. They say, 'Give us meat to eat!'
14 I cannot take care of all these people alone. The burden is too heavy for me.
15 If you plan to continue giving me their troubles, kill me now. If you accept me as your servant, let me die now. Then I will be finished with all my troubles!"
16 The Lord said to Moses, "Bring to me 70 of the elders of Israel. These men are the leaders among the people. Bring them to the Meeting Tent. Let them stand there with you.
17 Then I will come down and speak with you there. The Spirit is on you now. But I will also give some of that Spirit to them. Then they will help you take care of the people. In this way you will not have to be responsible for these people alone.
18 "Tell the people this: Make yourselves ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you cried. The Lord heard your words when you said, 'We need meat to eat! It was better for us in Egypt!' So now the Lord will give you meat. And you will eat it.
19 You will eat it for more than one, or two, or five, or ten, or even twenty days!
20 You will eat that meat for a whole month until you are sick of it. This will happen to you because you complained against the Lord. He lives among you and knows what you need, but you cried and complained to him! You said, 'Why did we ever leave Egypt?'"
21 Moses said, "Lord, there are 600,000 soldiers here, and you say, 'I will give them enough meat to eat for a whole month!'
22 If we were to kill all of the sheep and cattle, that would still not be enough to feed this many people for a month. And if we caught all the fish in the sea, it would not be enough for them!"
23 But the Lord said to Moses, "Don't limit my power! You will see that I can do what I say I can do."
24 So Moses went out to speak with the people. He told them what the Lord said. Then he gathered 70 of the elders together and told them to stand around the Tent.
25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. The Spirit was on Moses. The Lord put that same Spirit on the 70 elders. After the Spirit came down on them, they began to prophesy. But that was the only time these men ever did this.
26 Two of the elders, Eldad and Medad, did not go out to the Tent. Their names were on the list of elders, but they stayed in camp. But the Spirit also came on them, and they began prophesying in camp.
27 A young man ran and told Moses. The man said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in camp."
28 Joshua son of Nun said to Moses, "Moses, sir, you must stop them!" (Joshua had been Moses' helper since Joshua was a boy.)
29 But Moses answered, "Are you afraid the people will think that I am not the leader now? I wish that all the Lord's people were able to prophesy. I wish that the Lord would put his Spirit on all of them!"
30 Then Moses and the leaders of Israel went back to the camp.
31 Then the Lord made a powerful wind to blow in from the sea, and it blew quail into the area all around the camp. There were so many birds that the ground was covered. They were about three feet deep on the ground. There were quail in every direction as far as a man can walk in one day.
32 They went out and gathered quail all that day and all that night. And they gathered quail all the next day too! The smallest amount anyone gathered was 60 bushels. Then the people spread the quail meat all around the camp to dry in the sun.
33 People began to eat the meat, but the Lord became very angry. While the meat was still in their mouths, before the people could finish eating it, the Lord caused the people to become very sick and die.
34 So the people named that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried those who had the strong desire for meat.
35 From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.
1 And when the people H5971 complained H596 , it displeased H7451 AMS the LORD H3068 EDS : and the LORD H3068 EDS heard H8085 it ; and his anger H639 CMS-3MS was kindled H2734 W-VQY3MS ; and the fire H784 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS burnt H1197 W-VQY3FS among them , and consumed H398 W-VQY3FS them that were in the uttermost parts H7097 of the camp H4264 .
2 And the people H5971 cried H6817 unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 ; and when Moses H4872 prayed H6419 W-VTY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , the fire H784 was quenched H8257 .
3 And he called H7121 W-VQY3MS the name H8034 of the place H4725 D-NMS Taberah H8404 : because H3588 CONJ the fire H784 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS burnt H1197 among them .
4 And the mixed multitude H628 that H834 RPRO was among H7130 them fell a lusting H183 : and the children H1121 of Israel H3478 also H1571 CONJ wept H1058 W-VQY3MP again H7725 W-VUY3MP , and said H559 W-VQY3MP , Who H4310 IPRO shall give us flesh H1320 NMS to eat H398 ?
5 We remember H2142 the fish H1710 , which H834 RPRO we did eat H398 in Egypt H4714 freely H2600 ADV ; the cucumbers H7180 , and the melons H20 , and the leeks H2682 , and the onions H1211 , and the garlic H7762 :
6 But now H6258 W-ADV our soul H5315 is dried away H3002 : there is nothing H369 NPAR at all H3605 NMS , beside H1115 PREP this manna H4478 , before our eyes H5869 .
7 And the manna H4478 was as coriander H1407 seed H2233 , and the color H5869 thereof as the color H5869 of bedellium H916 .
8 And the people H5971 went about H7751 , and gathered H3950 it , and ground H2912 it in mills H7347 , or H176 CONJ beat H1743 it in a mortar H4085 , and baked H1310 it in pans H6517 , and made H6213 W-VQQ3MP cakes H5692 of it : and the taste H2940 of it was H1961 W-VQQ3MS as the taste H2940 of fresh H3955 oil H8081 .
9 And when the dew H2919 fell H3381 upon H5921 PREP the camp H4264 in the night H3915 NFS , the manna H4478 fell H3381 upon H5921 PREP it .
10 Then Moses H4872 heard H8085 the people H5971 weep H1058 throughout their families H4940 , every man H376 NMS in the door H6607 of his tent H168 : and the anger H639 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS was kindled H2734 greatly H3966 ADV ; Moses H4872 also was displeased H5869 .
11 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , Wherefore H4100 L-IGAT hast thou afflicted H7489 thy servant H5650 ? and wherefore H4100 WL-IGAT have I not H3808 NADV found H4672 favor H2580 NMS in thy sight H5869 , that thou layest H7760 L-VQFC the burden H4853 of all H3605 NMS this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 upon H5921 me ?
12 Have I H595 D-PPRO-1MS conceived H2030 all H3605 NMS this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 ? have I H595 PPRO-1MS begotten H3205 them , that H3588 CONJ thou shouldest say H559 VQY2MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , Carry H5375 them in thy bosom H2436 , as H834 RPRO a nursing father H539 beareth H5375 VQY3MS the sucking child H3243 , unto H5921 PREP the land H127 D-NFS which H834 RPRO thou sworest H7650 unto their fathers H1 ?
13 Whence H370 M-ADV should I have flesh H1320 NMS to give H5414 L-VQFC unto all H3605 L-CMS this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 ? for H3588 CONJ they weep H1058 unto H5921 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC , Give H5414 us flesh H1320 NMS , that we may eat H398 .
14 I H595 PPRO-1MS am not able H3201 to bear H5375 all H3605 NMS this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 alone H905 L-CMS-1MS , because H3588 CONJ it is too heavy H3515 AMS for H4480 PREP-1MS me .
15 And if H518 PART thou H859 deal H6213 VQPMS thus H3602 ADV with me , kill H2026 me , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , out of hand H2026 , if H518 PART I have found H4672 VQQ1MS favor H2580 NMS in thy sight H5869 ; and let me not H408 W-NPAR see H7200 VQY1MS my wretchedness H7451 .
16 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Gather H622 unto me seventy H7657 ONUM men H376 NMS of the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 , whom H834 RPRO thou knowest H3045 VQQ2MS to be the elders H2205 of the people H5971 , and officers H7860 over them ; and bring H3947 them unto H413 PREP the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS , that they may stand H3320 there H8033 ADV with H5973 PREP-2FS thee .
17 And I will come down H3381 and talk H1696 with H5973 PREP-2MS thee there H8033 ADV : and I will take H680 of H4480 PREP the spirit H7307 which H834 RPRO is upon H5921 PREP-2MS thee , and will put H7760 W-VQQ1MS it upon H5921 PREP-3MP them ; and they shall bear H5375 the burden H4853 of the people H5971 with H854 PART-2MS thee , that thou H859 PPRO-2MS bear H5375 VQY2MS it not H3808 W-NPAR thyself alone H905 .
18 And say H559 thou unto H413 W-PREP the people H5971 , Sanctify yourselves H6942 against tomorrow H4279 , and ye shall eat H398 flesh H1320 NMS : for H3588 CONJ ye have wept H1058 in the ears H241 of the LORD H3068 EDS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Who H4310 IPRO shall give us flesh H1320 NMS to eat H398 ? for H3588 CONJ it was well H2895 with us in Egypt H4714 : therefore the LORD H3068 EDS will give H5414 W-VQQ3MS you flesh H1320 NMS , and ye shall eat H398 .
19 Ye shall not H3808 NADV eat H398 one H259 MMS day H3117 NMS , nor H3808 W-NADV two days H3117 NUM-MS , nor H3808 W-NADV five H2568 days H3117 NUM-MS , neither H3808 W-NADV ten H6235 days H3117 NUM-MS , nor H3808 W-NADV twenty H6242 days H3117 NUM-MS ;
20 But even H5704 PREP a whole H3117 NMP month H2320 , until H5704 PREP it come out H3318 VQY3MS at your nostrils H639 , and it be H1961 W-VQQ3MS loathsome H2214 unto you : because H3282 ADV that H3588 CONJ ye have despised H3988 the LORD H3068 EDS which H834 RPRO is among H7130 you , and have wept H1058 before H6440 L-CMP-3MS him , saying H559 L-VQFC , Why H4100 L-IPRO came we forth H3318 out of Egypt H4714 ?
21 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , The people H5971 , among H7130 whom H834 RPRO I H595 PPRO-1MS am , are six H8337 RFS hundred H3967 BFP thousand H505 W-BMS footmen H7273 ; and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS hast said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will give H5414 VQY1MS them flesh H1320 NMS , that they may eat H398 a whole H3117 NMP month H2320 .
22 Shall the flocks H6629 and the herds H1241 W-NMS be slain H7819 for them , to suffice H4672 them ? or H518 PART shall all H3605 NMS the fish H1709 CMP of the sea H3220 D-NMS be gathered together H622 VNY3MS for them , to suffice H4672 them ?
23 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Is the LORD H3068 EDS \'s hand H3027 waxed short H7114 ? thou shalt see H7200 VQY2MS now H6258 ADV whether my word H1697 CMS-1MS shall come to pass H7136 unto thee or H518 PART not H3808 ADV .
24 And Moses H4872 went out H3318 W-VQY3MS , and told H1696 W-VPY3MS the people H5971 the words H1697 CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , and gathered H622 the seventy H7657 ONUM men H376 of the elders H2205 of the people H5971 , and set H5975 them round about H5439 the tabernacle H168 .
25 And the LORD H3068 EDS came down H3381 W-VQY3MS in a cloud H6051 , and spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , and took H680 of H4480 PREP the spirit H7307 that H834 RPRO was upon H5921 PREP-3MS him , and gave H5414 W-VQQ3MS it unto H5921 PREP-3MS the seventy H7657 ONUM elders H376 NMS : and it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that , when the spirit H7307 rested H5117 upon H5921 PREP-3MS them , they prophesied H5012 , and did not H3808 W-NPAR cease H3254 .
26 But there remained H7604 two H8147 of the men H376 NMP in the camp H4264 , the name H8034 CMS of the one H259 was Eldad H419 , and the name H8034 W-CMS of the other H8145 D-ONUM Medad H4312 : and the spirit H7307 rested H5117 W-VQY3FS upon H5921 PREP-3MP them ; and they H1992 were of them that were written H3789 , but went not out H3318 VQQ3MP unto the tabernacle H168 : and they prophesied H5012 in the camp H4264 .
27 And there ran H7323 a young man H5288 , and told H5046 W-VHY3MS Moses H4872 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Eldad H419 and Medad H4312 do prophesy H5012 in the camp H4264 .
28 And Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 , the servant H8334 of Moses H4872 , one of his young men H979 , answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS , My lord H113 Moses H4872 , forbid H3607 them .
29 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Enviest H7065 thou H859 PPRO-2MS for my sake ? would God H4310 W-IPRO that all H3605 NMS the LORD H3068 EDS \'s people H5971 NMS were prophets H5030 , and that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS would put H5414 VHFA his spirit H7307 CMS-3MS upon H5921 PREP-3MP them !
30 And Moses H4872 got H622 him into H413 PREP the camp H4264 , he H1931 PPRO-3MS and the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 LMS .
31 And there went forth H5265 a wind H7307 W-GFS from the LORD H3068 EDS , and brought H1468 quails H7958 from H4480 PREP the sea H3220 D-NMS , and let them fall H5203 by H5921 PREP the camp H4264 , as it were a day H3117 NMS \'s journey H1870 on this side H3541 , and as it were a day H3117 NMS \'s journey H1870 on the other side H3541 , round about H5439 ADV the camp H4264 , and as it were two cubits H520 high upon H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of the earth H776 D-GFS .
32 And the people H5971 stood up H6965 W-VQY3MS all H3605 NMS that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 NUM-MS , and all H3605 NMS that night H3915 D-AMS , and all H3605 NMS the next H4283 day H3117 NMS , and they gathered H622 the quails H7958 : he that gathered least H4591 gathered H622 ten H6235 homers H2563 : and they spread them all abroad H7849 for themselves round about H5439 ADV the camp H4264 .
33 And while the flesh H1320 D-NMS was yet H5750 between H996 PREP their teeth H8127 , ere H2962 ADV it was chewed H3772 VNI3MS , the wrath H639 of the LORD H3068 EDS was kindled H2734 VQQ3MS against the people H5971 , and the LORD H3068 EDS smote H5221 W-VHY3MS the people H5971 with a very H3966 ADV great H7227 AFS plague H4347 .
34 And he called H7121 W-VQY3MS the name H8034 of that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS place H4725 D-NMS Kibroth H6914 - hattaavah : because H3588 CONJ there H8033 ADV they buried H6912 the people H5971 that lusted H183 .
35 And the people H5971 journeyed H5265 from Kibroth H6914 - hattaavah unto Hazeroth H2698 ; and abode H1961 W-VQY3MP at Hazeroth H2698 .
