Romans 7:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Brothers and sisters, you all understand the Law of Moses. So surely you know that the law rules over people only while they are alive.
2 It's like what the law says about marriage: A woman must stay married to her husband as long as he is alive. But if her husband dies, she is made free from the law of marriage.
3 But if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, the law says she is guilty of adultery. But if her husband dies, she is made free from the law of marriage. So if she marries another man after her husband dies, she is not guilty of adultery.
4 In the same way, my brothers and sisters, your old selves died and you became free from the law through the body of Christ. Now you belong to someone else. You belong to the one who was raised from death. We belong to Christ so that we can be used in service to God.
5 In the past we were ruled by our sinful selves. The law made us want to do sinful things. And those sinful desires controlled our bodies, so that what we did only brought us spiritual death.
6 In the past the law held us as prisoners, but our old selves died, and we were made free from the law. So now we serve God in a new way, not in the old way with the written rules. Now we serve God in the new way, with the Spirit.
7 You might think I am saying that sin and the law are the same. That is not true. But the law was the only way I could learn what sin means. I would never have known it is wrong to want something that is not mine. But the law said, "You must not want what belongs to someone else."
8 And sin found a way to use that command and make me want all kinds of things that weren't mine. So sin came to me because of the command. But without the law, sin has no power.
9 Before I knew the law, I was alive. But when I heard the law's command, sin began to live,
10 and I died spiritually. The command was meant to bring life, but for me it brought death.
11 Sin found a way to fool me by using the command to make me die.
12 Now the law is holy, and the command is holy and right and good.
13 Does this mean that something that is good brought death to me? No, it was sin that used the good command to bring me death. This shows how terrible sin really is. It can use a good command to produce a result that shows sin at its very worst.
14 We know that the law is spiritual, but I am not. I am so human. Sin rules me as if I were its slave.
15 I don't understand why I act the way I do. I don't do the good I want to do, and I do the evil I hate.
16 And if I don't want to do what I do, that means I agree that the law is good.
17 But I am not really the one doing the evil. It is sin living in me that does it.
18 Yes, I know that nothing good lives in me—I mean nothing good lives in the part of me that is not spiritual. I want to do what is good, but I don't do it.
19 I don't do the good that I want to do. I do the evil that I don't want to do.
20 So if I do what I don't want to do, then I am not really the one doing it. It is the sin living in me that does it.
21 So I have learned this rule: When I want to do good, evil is there with me.
22 In my mind I am happy with God's law.
23 But I see another law working in my body. That law makes war against the law that my mind accepts. That other law working in my body is the law of sin, and that law makes me its prisoner.
24 What a miserable person I am! Who will save me from this body that brings me death?
25 I thank God for his salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord! So in my mind I am a slave to God's law, but in my sinful self I am a slave to the law of sin.

2 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF woman G1135 N-NSF which hath an husband G5220 A-NSF is bound G1210 V-RPI-3S by the law G3551 N-DSM to her G3588 T-DSM husband G435 N-DSM so long as he liveth G2198 V-PAP-DSM ; but G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND the G3588 T-NSM husband G435 N-NSM be dead G599 V-2AAS-3S , she is loosed G2673 V-RPI-3S from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM of her husband G435 N-GSM .
3 So G686 PRT then G3767 CONJ if G1437 COND , while her husband G435 N-GSM liveth G2198 V-PAP-GSM , she be married G1096 V-2ADS-3S to another G2087 A-DSM man G435 N-DSM , she shall be called G5537 V-FAI-3S an adulteress G3428 N-NSF : but G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND her husband G435 N-NSM be dead G599 V-2AAS-3S , she is G2076 V-PXI-3S free G1658 A-NSF from G575 PREP that law G3551 N-GSM ; so that she G846 P-ASF is G1511 V-PXN no G3361 PRT-N adulteress G3428 N-ASF , though she be married G1096 V-2ADP-ASF to another G2087 A-DSM man G435 N-DSM .
4 Wherefore G5620 CONJ , my G3450 P-1GS brethren G80 N-VPM , ye G5210 P-2NP also G2532 CONJ are become dead G2289 V-API-2P to the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSN body G4983 N-GSN of Christ G5547 N-GSM ; that G3588 T-ASN ye G3588 T-ASN should be married G1096 V-2ADN to another G2087 A-DSM , even to him G3588 T-DSM who G3588 T-DSM is raised G1453 V-APP-DSM from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM , that G2443 CONJ we G3588 T-DSM should bring forth fruit G2592 V-AAS-1P unto God G2316 N-DSM .
5 For G1063 CONJ when G3753 ADV we were G2258 in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF flesh G4561 N-DSF , the G3588 T-NPN motions G3804 N-NPN of sins G266 N-GPF , which G3588 T-NPN were by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM , did work G1754 V-IMI-3S in G1722 PREP our G3588 T-DPN members G3196 N-DPN to bring forth fruit G2592 V-AAN unto death G2288 N-DSM .
6 But G1161 CONJ now G3570 ADV we are delivered G2673 V-API-1P from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM , that being dead G599 V-2AAP-NPM wherein G1722 PREP we were held G2722 V-IPI-1P ; that G5620 CONJ we G2248 P-1AP should serve G1398 V-PAN in G1722 PREP newness G2538 N-DSF of spirit G4151 N-GSN , and G2532 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N in the oldness G3821 N-DSF of the letter G1121 N-GSN .
7 What G5101 I-ASN shall we say G2046 V-FAI-1P then G3767 CONJ ? Is the G3588 T-NSM law G3551 N-NSM sin G266 N-NSF ? God forbid G1096 V-2ADO-3S . Nay G235 CONJ , I had not G3756 PRT-N known G1097 V-2AAI-1S sin G266 N-ASF , but G1508 by G1223 PREP the law G3551 N-GSM : for G3588 T-ASF I had G5037 PRT not G3756 PRT-N known G1492 V-LAI-1S lust G1939 N-ASF , except G1508 the G3588 T-NSM law G3551 N-NSM had said G3004 V-IAI-3S , Thou shalt not G3756 PRT-N covet G1937 V-FAI-2S .
8 But G1161 CONJ sin G266 N-NSF , taking G2983 V-2AAP-NSF occasion G874 N-ASF by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSF commandment G1785 N-GSF , wrought G2716 V-ADI-3S in G1722 PREP me G1698 P-1DS all manner G3956 A-ASF of concupiscence G1939 N-ASF . For G1063 CONJ without G5565 ADV the law G3551 N-GSM sin G266 N-NSF was dead G3498 A-NSF .
9 For G1161 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS was alive G2198 V-IAI-1S without G5565 ADV the law G3551 N-GSM once G4218 PRT : but G1161 CONJ when the G3588 T-GSF commandment G1785 N-GSF came G2064 V-2AAP-GSF , sin G266 N-NSF revived G326 V-AAI-3S , and G1161 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS died G599 V-2AAI-1S .
10 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF commandment G1785 N-NSF , which G3588 T-NSF was ordained to G1519 PREP life G2222 N-ASF , I G3427 P-1DS found G2147 V-API-3S to be D-NSF unto G3778 D-NSF death G2288 N-ASM .
11 For G1063 CONJ sin G266 N-NSF , taking G2983 V-2AAP-NSF occasion G874 N-ASF by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSF commandment G1785 N-GSF , deceived G1818 V-AAI-3S me G3165 P-1AS , and G2532 CONJ by G1223 PREP it G846 P-GSF slew G615 V-AAI-3S me .
12 Wherefore G5620 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM law G3551 N-NSM is holy G40 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF commandment G1785 N-NSF holy G40 A-NSF , and G2532 CONJ just G1342 A-NSF , and G2532 CONJ good G18 A-NSF .
13 Was then G3767 CONJ that which is good G18 A-NSN made G1096 V-2RAI-3S death G2288 N-NSM unto me G1698 P-1DS ? God forbid G1096 V-2ADO-3S . But G235 CONJ sin G266 N-NSF , that G2443 CONJ it might appear G5316 V-2APS-3S sin G266 N-NSF , working G2716 V-PNP-NSF death G2288 N-ASM in me G3427 P-1DS by G1223 PREP that which is good G18 A-GSN ; that G3588 T-NSF sin G266 N-NSF by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSF commandment G1785 N-GSF might become G1096 V-2ADS-3S exceeding G2596 PREP sinful G268 A-NSF .
14 For G1063 CONJ we know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM law G3551 N-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S spiritual G4152 A-NSM : but G1161 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S carnal G4559 A-NSM , sold G4097 V-RPP-NSM under G5259 PREP sin G266 N-ASF .
15 For G1063 CONJ that which G3739 R-ASN I do G2716 V-PNI-1S I allow G1097 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N : for G1063 CONJ what G3739 R-ASN I would G2309 V-PAI-1S , that G5124 D-ASN do G4238 V-PAI-1S I not G3756 PRT-N ; but G235 CONJ what G3739 R-ASN I hate G3404 V-PAI-1S , that G5124 D-ASN do G4160 V-PAI-1S I .
16 If G1487 COND then G1161 CONJ I do G4160 V-PAI-1S that G5124 D-ASN which G3739 R-ASN I would G2309 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N , I consent G4852 V-PXI-1S unto the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM that G3754 CONJ it is good G2570 A-NSM .
17 Now G3570 ADV then G1161 CONJ it is no more G3765 ADV I G1473 P-1NS that do G2716 V-PNI-1S it G846 P-ASN , but G235 CONJ sin G266 N-NSF that dwelleth G3611 V-PAP-NSF in G1722 PREP me G1698 P-1DS .
18 For G1063 CONJ I know G1492 V-RAI-1S that G3754 CONJ in G1722 PREP me G1698 P-1DS (that is G5123 , in G1722 PREP my G3588 T-DSF flesh G4561 N-DSF , ) dwelleth G3611 V-PAI-3S no G3756 PRT-N good thing G18 A-ASN : for G1063 CONJ to will G2309 V-PAN is present G3873 V-PNI-3S with me G3588 T-ASN ; but G1161 CONJ how to perform G2716 V-PNN that which is good G2570 A-ASN I find G2147 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N .
19 For G1063 CONJ the good G18 A-ASN that G3739 R-ASN I would G2309 V-PAI-1S I do G4160 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N : but G235 CONJ the evil G2556 A-ASN which G3739 R-ASN I would G2309 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N , that G5124 D-ASN I do G4238 V-PAI-1S .
20 Now G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND I G1473 P-1NS do G4160 V-PAI-1S that G5124 D-ASN I G3739 R-ASN would G2309 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N , it is no more G3765 ADV I G1473 P-1NS that do G2716 V-PNI-1S it G846 P-ASN , but G235 CONJ sin G266 N-NSF that dwelleth G3611 V-PAP-NSF in G1722 PREP me G1698 P-1DS .
21 I find G2147 V-PAI-1S then G686 PRT a law G3551 N-ASM , that , when I G3588 T-DSM would G2309 V-PAP-DSM do G4160 V-PAN good G2570 A-ASN , evil G2556 A-NSN is present G3873 V-PNI-3S with me G1698 P-1DS .
22 For G1063 CONJ I delight G4913 V-PNI-1S in the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM of God G2316 N-GSM after G2596 PREP the G3588 T-ASM inward G2080 ADV man G444 N-ASM :
23 But G1161 CONJ I see G991 V-PAI-1S another G2087 A-ASM law G3551 N-ASM in G1722 PREP my G3588 T-DPN members G3196 N-DPN , warring against G497 V-PNP-ASM the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM of G3588 T-GSM my G3588 T-GSM mind G3563 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ bringing me into captivity G163 V-PAP-ASM to the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM of G3588 T-DSM sin G266 N-GSF which is G5607 V-PXP-DSM in G1722 PREP my G3588 T-DPN members G3196 N-DPN .
24 O wretched G5005 A-NSM man G444 N-NSM that I G1473 P-1NS am ! who G5101 I-NSM shall deliver G4506 V-FDI-3S me G3165 P-1AS from G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSN body G4983 N-GSN of G3588 T-GSM this G3588 T-GSM death G2288 N-GSM ?
25 I G3588 T-DSM thank G2168 V-PAI-1S God G2316 N-DSM through G1223 PREP Jesus G2424 N-GSM Christ G5547 N-GSM our G3588 T-GSM Lord G2962 N-GSM .
