Hosea 4:12 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 People of Israel, listen to the Lord's message. The Lord will tell his argument against those who live in this country. "The people in this country don't really know God. They are not true and loyal to him.
2 They swear, lie, kill, and steal. They commit the sin of adultery and have their babies. They murder one person after another
3 So the country is like someone crying for the dead, and all of its people are weak. Even the animals of the field, the birds of the sky, and the fish in the sea are dying.
4 No one should argue or blame another person. Priest, my argument is with you!
5 You (priests) will fall in the daytime. And at night the prophet will also fall with you. I will also destroy your mother.
6 "My people are destroyed because they have no knowledge. You have refused to learn, so I will refuse to let you be a priest for me. You have forgotten the law of your God, so I will forget your children.
7 They became proud. They sinned more and more against me, so I will change their honor to shame."
8 The priests fed on the people's sins. They wanted more and more of their sin offerings.
9 So the priests are no different from the people. I will punish them for the things they did. I will pay them back for the wrong things they did.
10 They will eat, but they will not be satisfied. They will commit sexual sins, but they will not have babies. This is because they left the Lord and became like prostitutes.
11 "Sexual sins, strong drink, and new wine ruin a person's ability to think straight.
12 My people are asking pieces of wood for advice. They think those sticks will answer them, because they have chased after those false gods like prostitutes. They left their God and became like prostitutes.
13 They make sacrifices on the tops of the mountains and burn incense on the hills under oak trees, poplar trees, and elm trees. The shade under those trees looks nice. So your daughters lie under those trees like prostitutes, and your daughters-in-law commit sexual sins.
14 "I cannot blame your daughters for being prostitutes or your daughters-in-law for committing sexual sins, because the men go and have sex with prostitutes and offer sacrifices with the temple prostitutes. So these fools are destroying themselves.
15 "Israel, just because you act like a prostitute doesn't mean that Judah should feel guilty too. People, don't go to Gilgal or Beth-aven. Don't use the Lord's name to make promises. Don't say, 'As the Lord lives —!'
16 The Lord has given many things to Israel. He is like a shepherd who takes his sheep to a large field with plenty of grass. But Israel is stubborn like a young cow that runs away again and again.
17 "Ephraim has joined his idols, so leave him alone.
18 Ephraim has joined their drunkenness. Let them continue to be prostitutes. Let them be with their lovers.
19 They went to those gods for safety, and they have lost their ability to think. Their altars will bring them shame.
1 Hear H8085 VQI2MP the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , ye children H1121 of Israel H3478 : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 L-EDS hath a controversy H7379 NMS with H5973 PREP the inhabitants H3427 of the land H776 D-GFS , because H3588 CONJ there is no H369 NPAR truth H571 CFS , nor H369 mercy H2617 NMS , nor H369 W-ADV knowledge H1847 NFS of God H430 EDP in the land H776 B-GFS .
2 By swearing H422 , and lying H3584 , and killing H7523 , and stealing H1589 , and committing adultery H5003 , they break out H6555 , and blood H1818 toucheth H5060 blood H1818 .
3 Therefore H5921 PREP shall the land H776 D-GFS mourn H56 , and every one H3605 NMS that dwelleth H3427 VQPMS therein shall languish H535 , with the beasts H2416 of the field H7704 D-NMS , and with the fowls H5775 WB-CMS of heaven H8064 D-AMP ; yea , the fishes H1709 CMP of the sea H3220 D-NMS also H1571 W-CONJ shall be taken away H622 .
4 Yet H389 ADV let no H408 NPAR man H376 NMS strive H7378 , nor H408 ADV reprove H3198 another H376 NMS : for thy people H5971 are as they that strive H7378 with the priest H3548 .
5 Therefore shalt thou fall H3782 in the day H3117 D-AMS , and the prophet H5030 also H1571 CONJ shall fall H3782 with H5973 PREP-2MS thee in the night H3915 NFS , and I will destroy H1820 thy mother H517 CFS-2MS .
6 My people H5971 are destroyed H1820 for lack H1097 M-NPAR of knowledge H1847 : because H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS hast rejected H3988 VQQ2MS knowledge H1847 D-CFS , I will also reject H3988 thee , that thou shalt be no priest H3547 to me : seeing thou hast forgotten H7911 W-VQY3FS the law H8451 CFS of thy God H430 CMP-2MS , I H589 PPRO-1MS will also H1571 CONJ forget H7911 thy children H1121 CMP-2MS .
7 As they were increased H7231 , so H3651 ADV they sinned H2398 VQQ3MP against me : therefore will I change H4171 their glory H3519 into shame H7036 .
8 They eat up H398 the sin H2403 of my people H5971 , and they set H5375 VQY3MP their heart H5315 CFS-3MS on H413 W-PREP their iniquity H5771 .
9 And there shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS , like people H5971 , like priest H3548 : and I will punish H6485 them for their ways H1870 CMP-3MS , and reward H7725 them their doings H4611 .
10 For they shall eat H398 , and not H3808 W-NPAR have enough H7646 : they shall commit whoredom H2181 , and shall not H3808 W-NPAR increase H6555 : because H3588 CONJ they have left off H5800 to take heed H8104 to the LORD H3068 EDS .
11 Whoredom H2184 and wine H3196 and new wine H8492 take away H3947 the heart H3820 NMS .
12 My people H5971 ask counsel H7592 at their stocks H6086 , and their staff H4731 declareth H5046 VHY3MS unto them : for H3588 CONJ the spirit H7307 NFS of whoredoms H2183 hath caused them to err H8582 , and they have gone a whoring H2181 from under H8478 M-CFS their God H430 .
13 They sacrifice H2076 upon H5921 PREP the tops H7218 CMP of the mountains H2022 , and burn incense H6999 upon H5921 PREP the hills H1389 , under H8478 NMS oaks H437 and poplars H3839 and elms H424 , because H3588 CONJ the shadow H6738 thereof is good H2896 AMS : therefore H3651 ADV your daughters H1323 shall commit whoredom H2181 , and your spouses H3618 shall commit adultery H5003 .
14 I will not H3808 ADV punish H6485 your daughters H1323 when H3588 CONJ they commit whoredom H2181 , nor your spouses H3618 when H3588 CONJ they commit adultery H5003 : for H3588 CONJ themselves H1992 PPRO-3MP are separated H6504 with H5973 PREP whores H2181 , and they sacrifice H2076 with H5973 harlots H6948 : therefore the people H5971 that doth not H3808 ADV understand H995 VQY3MS shall fall H3832 .
15 Though H518 PART thou H859 PPRO-2MS , Israel H3478 , play the harlot H2181 , yet let not H408 NPAR Judah H3063 offend H816 ; and come H935 not H408 ADV ye unto Gilgal H1537 , neither H408 ADV go ye up H5927 to Beth H1007 - aven , nor H408 ADV swear H7650 , The LORD H3068 NAME-4MS liveth H2416 AMS .
16 For H3588 CONJ Israel H3478 slideth back H5637 as a backsliding H5637 heifer H6510 : now H6258 ADV the LORD H3068 EDS will feed H7462 them as a lamb H3532 in a large place H4800 .
17 Ephraim H669 is joined H2266 to idols H6091 : let him alone H5117 .
18 Their drink H5435 is sour H5493 : they have committed whoredom continually H2181 : her rulers H4043 with shame H7036 NMS do love H157 , Give H3051 ye .
19 The wind H7307 NFS hath bound her up H6887 in her wings H3671 , and they shall be ashamed H954 because of their sacrifices H2077 .
