Joshua 5 (NKJV) New King James Version

1 So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel.
2 At that time the LORD said to Joshua, "Make flint knives for yourself, and circumcise the sons of Israel again the second time."
3 So Joshua made flint knives for himself, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
4 And this is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: All the people who came out of Egypt who were males, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way, after they had come out of Egypt.
5 For all the people who came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness, on the way as they came out of Egypt, had not been circumcised.
6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the LORD -- to whom the LORD swore that He would not show them the land which the LORD had sworn to their fathers that He would give us, "a land flowing with milk and honey."
7 Then Joshua circumcised their sons whom He raised up in their place; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way.
8 So it was, when they had finished circumcising all the people, that they stayed in their places in the camp till they were healed.
9 Then the LORD said to Joshua, "This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.
10 Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho.
11 And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day.
12 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.
13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?"
14 So He said, "No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?"
15 Then the Commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, "Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy." And Joshua did so.

2 At that H1931 time H6256 the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 VQQ3MS unto H413 PREP Joshua H3091 , Make H6213 VQI2MS thee sharp H6864 knives H2719 , and circumcise H4135 again H7725 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 the second H8145 time .
3 And Joshua H3091 made H6213 W-VQY3MS him sharp H6864 knives H2719 , and circumcised H4135 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 at H413 PREP the hill H1389 of the foreskins H6190 .
4 And this H2088 W-PMS is the cause H1697 D-NMS why H834 RPRO Joshua H3091 did circumcise H4135 : All H3605 NMS the people H5971 that came out H3318 of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , that were males H2145 , even all H3605 NMS the men H376 of war H4421 , died H4191 in the wilderness H4057 by the way H1870 , after they came out H3318 of Egypt H4714 .
5 Now H3588 CONJ all H3605 NMS the people H5971 that came out H3318 D-VQPMP were H1961 VQQ3MP circumcised H4135 : but all H3605 NMS the people H5971 that were born H3209 in the wilderness H4057 by the way H1870 as they came forth H3318 out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , them they had not H3808 NADV circumcised H4135 .
6 For H3588 CONJ the children H1121 of Israel H3478 walked H1980 VQQ3MP forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS in the wilderness H4057 , till H5704 PREP all H3605 NMS the people H1471 that were men H376 CMP of war H4421 , which came out H3318 of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , were consumed H8552 , because H834 RPRO they obeyed H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 ADV the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS : unto whom H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS swore H7650 that he would not H1115 L-NPAR show H7200 them the land H776 D-GFS , which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS swore H7650 unto their fathers H1 that he would give H5414 us , a land H776 GFS that floweth H2100 with milk H2461 NMS and honey H1706 .
7 And their children H1121 , whom he raised up H6965 in their stead H8478 , them Joshua H3091 circumcised H4135 : for H3588 CONJ they were H1961 VQQ3MP uncircumcised H6189 , because H3588 CONJ they had not H3808 NADV circumcised H4135 them by the way H1870 .
8 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when H834 K-RPRO they had done H8552 VQQ3MP circumcising H4135 all H3605 CMS the people H1471 , that they abode H3427 W-VQY3MP in their places H8478 in the camp H4264 , till H5704 PREP they were whole H2421 .
9 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Joshua H3091 , This day H3117 D-AMS have I rolled away H1556 the reproach H2781 of Egypt H4714 EFS from off H5921 you . Wherefore the name H8034 CMS of the place H4725 D-NMS is called H7121 W-VQY3MS Gilgal H1537 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS .
10 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 encamped H2583 W-VQY3MP in Gilgal H1537 , and kept H6213 W-VQY3MP the passover H6453 on the fourteenth H702 day H3117 NMS of the month H2320 LD-NMS at even H6153 in the plains H6160 of Jericho H3405 .
11 And they did eat H398 W-VQY3MP of the old corn H5669 of the land H776 D-GFS on the morrow after H4283 the passover H6453 , unleavened cakes H4682 , and parched H7033 corn in the selfsame H6106 B-CFS day H3117 D-AMS .
12 And the manna H4478 ceased H7673 W-VQY3MS on the morrow H4283 after they had eaten H398 of the old corn H5669 of the land H776 D-GFS ; neither H3808 W-NPAR had H1961 VQQ3MS the children H1121 L-CMP of Israel H3478 manna H4478 any more H5750 ADV ; but they did eat H398 W-VQY3MP of the fruit H8393 of the land H776 GFS of Canaan H3667 LMS that H1931 year H8141 .
13 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when Joshua H3091 was H1961 by Jericho H3405 , that he lifted up H5375 W-VQY3MS his eyes H5869 CMD-3MS and looked H7200 W-VIY3MS , and , behold H2009 IJEC , there stood H5975 a man H376 NMS over against H5048 him with his sword H2719 drawn H8025 in his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS : and Joshua H3091 went H1980 W-VQY3MS unto him H413 PREP-3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Art thou H859 PPRO-2MS for us , or H518 PART for our adversaries H6862 ?
14 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Nay H3808 NPAR ; but H3588 CONJ as captain H8269 of the host H6635 of the LORD H3068 EDS am I H589 PPRO-1MS now H6258 ADV come H935 . And Joshua H3091 fell H5307 W-VQY3MS on H413 PREP his face H6440 CMP-3MS to the earth H776 NFS-3FS , and did worship H7812 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , What H4100 IGAT saith H1696 VPPMS my lord H113 unto H413 PREP his servant H5650 ?
15 And the captain H8269 of the LORD H3068 EDS \'s host H6635 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Joshua H3091 , Loose H5394 thy shoe H5275 from off H5921 M-PREP thy foot H7272 ; for H3588 CONJ the place H4725 D-NMS whereon H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS standest H5975 is holy H6944 . And Joshua H3091 did H6213 W-VQY3MS so H3651 ADV .
