2. They said to them at Shiloh in Canaan, "The Lord said through Moses to give us cities to live in, as well as fields around them for our cattle."

3. So the sons of Israel gave these cities and fields of their land to the Levites, as the Lord had said.

4. The name drawn first was for the families of the Kohathites. The Levites who were children of Aaron the religious leader received thirteen cities from the families of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.

And the lot H1486 came out H3318 for the families H4940 of the Kohathites H6956 : and the children H1121 of Aaron H175 the priest H3548 , which were of H4480 the Levites H3881 , had H1961 by lot H1486 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Judah H3063 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Simeon H8099 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Benjamin H1144 , thirteen H7969 H6240 cities H5892 .

5. The rest of the sons of Kohath by drawing names received ten cities from the families of Ephraim and Dan and the half-family group of Manasseh.

5. And the rest H3498 of the children H1121 of Kohath H6955 had by lot H1486 out of the families H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of Ephraim H669 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Dan H1835 , and out of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 , ten H6235 cities H5892 .

6. The sons of Gershon by drawing names received thirteen cities from the families of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-family group of Manasseh in Bashan.

And the children H1121 of Gershon H1648 had by lot H1486 out of the families H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of Issachar H3485 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Asher H836 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Naphtali H5321 , and out of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 in Bashan H1316 , thirteen H7969 H6240 cities H5892 .

7. The sons of Merari received twelve cities from the families of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.

7. The children H1121 of Merari H4847 by their families H4940 had out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Reuben H7205 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Gad H1410 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Zebulun H2074 , twelve H8147 H6240 cities H5892 .

8. The sons of Israel by drawing names gave these cities with their fields to the Levites, as the Lord had said through Moses.

10. They were for the sons of Aaron, one of the families of the Kohathites, of the sons of Levi. For their name was drawn first.

11. They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) with the fields around it in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the father of Anak.)

13. So to the sons of Aaron the religious leader they gave Hebron and Libnah with their fields. Hebron was the city where one who killed a man could go to be safe.

25. From the halffamily group of Manasseh were given Taanach with its fields, and Gathrimmon with its fields, two cities.

26. There were ten cities in all, with their fields, for the rest of the families of the Kohathites.

40. There were twelve cities in all given to the families of the people of Merari, the rest of the families of the Levites.

41. The cities of the Levites among the land of the people of Israel were forty-eight cities in all, with their fields.

41. All H3605 the cities H5892 of the Levites H3881 within H8432 the possession H272 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were forty H705 and eight H8083 cities H5892 with their suburbs H4054 .

42. Each one of these cities had its fields around it. So it was with all these cities.

43. The Lord gave Israel all the land He had promised to give to their fathers. They took it for their own, and lived in it.

44. The Lord gave them peace on every side, just as He had promised their fathers. Not one of all those who hated them could stand in front of them. The Lord gave all those who hated them into their hand.
