1 Corinthians 7:8 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Now I will discuss the things you wrote me about. You asked if it is better for a man not to have any sexual relations at all.
2 But sexual sin is a danger, so each man should enjoy his own wife, and each woman should enjoy her own husband.
3 The husband should give his wife what she deserves as his wife. And the wife should give her husband what he deserves as her husband.
4 The wife does not have power over her own body. Her husband has the power over her body. And the husband does not have power over his own body. His wife has the power over his body.
5 Don't refuse to give your bodies to each other. But you might both agree to stay away from sex for a while so that you can give your time to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not be able to tempt you in your weakness.
6 I say this only to give you permission to be separated for a time. It is not a rule.
7 I wish everyone could be like me. But God has given each person a different ability. He makes some able to live one way, others to live a different way.
8 Now for those who are not married and for the widows I say this: It is good for you to stay single like me.
9 But if you cannot control your body, then you should marry. It is better to marry than to burn with sexual desire.
10 Now, I have a command for those who are married. Actually, it is not from me; it is what the Lord commanded. A wife should not leave her husband.
11 But if a wife does leave, she should remain single or get back together with her husband. And a husband should not divorce his wife.
12 The advice I have for the others is from me. The Lord did not give us any teaching about this. If you have a wife who is not a believer, you should not divorce her if she will continue to live with you.
13 And if you have a husband who is not a believer, you should not divorce him if he will continue to live with you.
14 The husband who is not a believer is set apart for God through his believing wife. And the wife who is not a believer is set apart for God through her believing husband. If this were not true, your children would be unfit for God's use. But now they are set apart for him.
15 But if the husband or wife who is not a believer decides to leave, let them leave. When this happens, the brother or sister in Christ is free. God chose you to have a life of peace.
16 Wives, maybe you will save your husband; and husbands, maybe you will save your wife. You don't know now what will happen later.
17 But each one of you should continue to live the way the Lord God has given you to live—the way you were when God chose you. This is a rule I make for all the churches.
18 If a man was already circumcised when he was chosen, he should not change his circumcision. If a man was without circumcision when he was chosen, he should not be circumcised.
19 It is not important if anyone is circumcised or not. What is important is obeying God's commands.
20 Each one of you should stay the way you were when God chose you.
21 If you were a slave when God chose you, don't let that bother you. But if you can be free, then do it.
22 If you were a slave when the Lord chose you, you are now free in the Lord. You belong to the Lord. In the same way, if you were free when you were chosen, you are now Christ's slave.
23 God paid a high price for you, so don't be slaves to anyone else.
24 Brothers and sisters, in your new life with God, each one of you should continue the way you were when God chose you.
25 Now I write about people who are not married. I have no command from the Lord about this, but I give my opinion. And I can be trusted, because the Lord has given me mercy.
26 This is a time of trouble. So I think it is good for you to stay the way you are.
27 If you have a wife, don't try to get free from her. If you are not married, don't try to find a wife.
28 But if you decide to marry, that is not a sin. And it is not a sin for a girl who has never married to get married. But those who marry will have trouble in this life, and I want you to be free from this trouble.
29 Brothers and sisters, this is what I mean: We don't have much time left. So starting now, those who have wives should be the same as those who don't.
30 It should not be important whether you are sad or whether you are happy. If you buy something, it should not matter to you that you own it.
31 You should use the things of the world without letting them become important to you. This is how you should live, because this world, the way it is now, will soon be gone.
32 I want you to be free from worry. A man who is not married is busy with the Lord's work. He is trying to please the Lord.
33 But a man who is married is busy with things of the world. He is trying to please his wife.
34 He must think about two things—pleasing his wife and pleasing the Lord. A woman who is not married or a girl who has never married is busy with the Lord's work. She wants to give herself fully—body and spirit—to the Lord. But a married woman is busy with things of the world. She is trying to please her husband.
35 I am saying this to help you. I am not trying to limit you, but I want you to live in the right way. And I want you to give yourselves fully to the Lord without giving your time to other things.
36 A man might think that he is not doing the right thing with his fianc—e. She might be almost past the best age to marry. So he might feel that he should marry her. He should do what he wants. It is no sin for them to get married.
37 But another man might be more sure in his mind. There may be no need for marriage, so he is free to do what he wants. If he has decided in his own heart not to marry his fianc—e, he is doing the right thing.
38 So the man who marries his fianc—e does right, and the man who does not marry does better.
39 A woman should stay with her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, the woman is free to marry any man she wants, but he should belong to the Lord.
40 The woman is happier if she does not marry again. This is my opinion, and I believe that I have God's Spirit.

3 Let the G3588 T-NSM husband G435 N-NSM render G591 V-PAM-3S unto the G3588 T-DSF wife G1135 N-DSF due G3784 V-PPP-ASF benevolence G2133 N-ASF : and G1161 CONJ likewise G3668 ADV also G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF wife G1135 N-NSF unto the G3588 T-DSM husband G435 N-DSM .
4 The G3588 T-NSF wife G1135 N-NSF hath not power G1850 V-PAI-3S of her own G2398 A-GSN body G4983 N-GSN , but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM husband G435 N-NSM : and G1161 CONJ likewise G3668 ADV also G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM husband G435 N-NSM hath not power G1850 V-PAI-3S of his own G2398 A-GSN body G4983 N-GSN , but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF wife G1135 N-NSF .

9 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND they cannot contain G1467 V-PNI-3P , let them marry G1060 V-AAM-3P : for G1063 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S better G2909 to marry G1060 V-AAN than G2228 PRT to burn G4448 V-PPN .
10 And G1161 CONJ unto the G3588 T-DPM married G1060 V-RAP-DPM I command G3853 V-PAI-1S , yet not G3756 PRT-N I G1473 P-1NS , but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM , Let not G3361 PRT-N the wife G1135 N-ASF depart G5563 V-APN-M from G575 PREP her husband G435 N-GSM :
11 But G1161 CONJ and G2532 CONJ if G1437 COND she depart G5563 V-API-3S , let her remain G3306 V-PAM-3S unmarried G22 N-NSF , or G2228 PRT be reconciled G2644 V-2APM-3S to her husband G435 N-DSM : and G2532 CONJ let not G3361 PRT-N the husband G435 N-ASM put away G863 V-PAN his wife G1135 N-ASF .

14 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM unbelieving G571 A-NSM husband G435 N-NSM is sanctified G37 V-RPI-3S by G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF wife G1135 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF unbelieving G571 A-NSF wife G1135 N-NSF is sanctified G37 V-RPI-3S by G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM husband G435 N-DSM : else G1893 CONJ were G2076 V-PXI-3S your G3588 T-NPN children G5043 N-NPN unclean G169 A-NPN ; but G1161 CONJ now G3568 ADV are G2076 V-PXI-3S they holy G40 A-NPN .
15 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSM unbelieving G571 A-NSM depart G5563 V-PMI-3S , let him depart G5563 V-PPM-3S . A brother G80 N-NSM or G2228 PRT a sister G79 N-NSF is not G3756 PRT-N under bondage G1402 V-RPI-3S in G1722 PREP such G5108 D-DPN cases : but G1161 CONJ God G2316 N-NSM hath called G2564 V-RAI-3S us G2248 P-1AP to G1722 PREP peace G1515 N-DSF .
16 For G1063 CONJ what G5101 I-ASN knowest G1492 V-RAI-2S thou , O wife G1135 N-VSF , whether G1487 COND thou shalt save G4982 V-FAI-2S thy husband G435 N-ASM ? or G2228 PRT how G5101 I-ASN knowest G1492 V-RAI-2S thou , O man G435 N-VSM , whether G1487 COND thou shalt save G4982 V-FAI-2S thy wife G1135 N-ASF ?
17 But G1508 as G5613 ADV God G2316 N-NSM hath distributed G3307 V-AAI-3S to every man G1538 A-DSM , as G5613 ADV the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM hath called G2564 V-RAI-3S every one G1538 A-ASM , so G3779 ADV let him walk G4043 V-PAM-3S . And G2532 CONJ so G3779 ADV ordain G1299 V-PMI-1S I in G1722 PREP all G3956 A-DPF churches G1577 N-DPF .
18 Is any man G5100 X-NSM called G2564 V-API-3S being circumcised G4059 V-RPP-NSM ? let him not G3361 PRT-N become uncircumcised G1986 V-PNM-3S . Is any G5100 X-NSM called G2564 V-API-3S in G1722 PREP uncircumcision G203 N-DSF ? let him not G3361 PRT-N be circumcised G4059 V-PPM-3S .
19 Circumcision G4061 N-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S nothing G3762 A-NSN , and G2532 CONJ uncircumcision G203 N-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S nothing G3762 A-NSN , but G235 CONJ the keeping G5084 N-NSF of the commandments G1785 N-GPF of God G2316 N-GSM .
20 Let every man G1538 A-NSM abide G3306 V-PAM-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF same G3588 T-DSF calling G2821 N-DSF wherein G3739 R-DSF he was called G2564 V-API-3S .
21 Art thou called G2564 V-API-2S being a servant G1401 N-NSM ? care G3199 V-PAM-3S not G3361 PRT-N for G4671 P-2DS it : but G235 CONJ if G1487 COND thou mayest G1410 V-PNI-2S be made G1096 V-2ADN free G1658 A-NSM , use G5530 V-ADM-2S it rather G3123 ADV .
22 For G1063 CONJ he that is called G2564 V-APP-NSM in G1722 PREP the Lord G2962 N-DSM , being a servant G1401 N-NSM , is G2076 V-PXI-3S the Lord G2962 N-GSM \'s freeman G558 N-NSM : likewise G3668 ADV also G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM that G3588 T-NSM is called G2564 V-APP-NSM , being free G1658 A-NSM , is G2076 V-PXI-3S Christ G5547 N-GSM \'s servant G1401 N-NSM .

25 Now G1161 CONJ concerning G4012 PREP virgins G3933 N-GPF I have G2192 V-PAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N commandment G2003 N-ASF of the Lord G2962 N-GSM : yet G1161 CONJ I give G1325 V-PAI-1S my judgment G1106 N-ASF , as G5613 ADV one that hath obtained mercy G1653 V-RPP-NSM of G5259 PREP the Lord G2962 N-GSM to be G1511 V-PXN faithful G4103 A-NSM .
26 I suppose G3543 V-PAI-1S therefore G3767 CONJ that this G5124 D-ASN is G5225 V-PAN good G2570 A-ASN for G1223 PREP the G3588 T-ASF present G1764 V-RAP-ASF distress G318 N-ASF , I say , that G3754 CONJ it is good G2570 A-NSN for G3588 T-NSN a man G444 N-DSM so G3779 ADV to be G1511 V-PXN .
27 Art thou bound G1210 V-RPI-2S unto a wife G1135 N-DSF ? seek G2212 V-PAM-2S not G3361 PRT-N to be loosed G3080 N-ASF . Art thou loosed G3089 V-RPI-2S from G575 PREP a wife G1135 N-GSF ? seek G2212 V-PAM-2S not G3361 PRT-N a wife G1135 N-ASF .
28 But G1161 CONJ and G2532 CONJ if G1437 COND thou marry G1060 V-AAS-2S , thou hast not G3756 PRT-N sinned G264 V-2AAI-2S ; and G2532 CONJ if G1437 COND a virgin G3933 N-NSF marry G1060 V-AAS-3S , she hath not G3756 PRT-N sinned G264 V-2AAI-3S . 32 But G1161 CONJ I would G2309 V-PAI-1S have G1511 V-PXN you G5209 P-2AP without carefulness G275 A-APM . He that is unmarried G22 N-NSM careth for G3309 V-PAI-3S the things G3588 T-NSM that G3588 T-GSM belong to the G3588 T-GSM Lord G2962 N-GSM , how G4459 ADV-I he G3588 T-APN may please G700 V-FAI-3S the G3588 T-DSM Lord G2962 N-DSM :
33 But G1161 CONJ he that is married G1060 V-AAP-NSM careth for G3309 V-PAI-3S the things G3588 T-NSM that G3588 T-GSM are of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM world G2889 N-GSM , how G4459 ADV-I he G3588 T-DSF may please G700 V-FAI-3S his wife G1135 N-DSF .
34 There is difference also between G3307 V-RPI-3S a wife G1135 N-NSF and G2532 CONJ a virgin G3933 N-NSF . The G3588 T-NSF unmarried woman G22 N-NSF careth for G3309 V-PAI-3S the things G3588 T-NSF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM Lord G2962 N-GSM , that G2443 CONJ she may be G5600 V-PXS-3S holy G40 A-NSF both G2532 CONJ in body G4983 N-DSN and G2532 CONJ in spirit G4151 N-DSN : but G1161 CONJ she that is married G1060 V-AAP-NSF careth for G3309 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APN things G3588 T-APN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM world G2889 N-GSM , how G4459 ADV-I she G3588 T-DSM may please G700 V-FAI-3S her husband G435 N-DSM .
35 And G1161 CONJ this G5124 D-ASN I speak G3004 V-PAI-1S for G3588 T-ASN your own G5216 P-2GP profit G4851 V-PAP-ASN ; not G3756 PRT-N that G2443 CONJ I may cast G1911 V-2AAS-1S a snare G1029 N-ASM upon you G5213 P-2DP , but G235 CONJ for G3588 T-ASN that which is comely G2158 A-ASN , and G2532 CONJ that ye may attend upon G2145 A-ASN the G3588 T-DSM Lord G2962 N-DSM without distraction G563 ADV .
36 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND any man G5100 X-NSM think G3543 V-PAI-3S that he behaveth himself uncomely G807 V-PAN toward G1909 PREP his G3588 T-ASF virgin G3933 N-ASF , if G1437 COND she pass the flower of her age G5600 V-PXS-3S , and G2532 CONJ need G3784 V-PAI-3S so G3779 ADV require G1096 V-PNN , let him do G4160 V-PAM-3S what G3739 R-ASN he will G2309 V-PAI-3S , he sinneth G264 V-PAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N : let them marry G1060 V-PAM-3P .
37 Nevertheless G1161 CONJ he G3739 R-NSM that standeth G2476 V-IAI-3S steadfast G1476 A-NSM in G1722 PREP his heart G2588 N-DSF , having G2192 V-PAP-NSM no G3361 PRT-N necessity G318 N-ASF , but G1161 CONJ hath G2192 V-PAI-3S power G1849 N-ASF over G4012 PREP his own G2398 A-GSN will G2307 N-GSN , and G2532 CONJ hath so G5124 D-ASN decreed G2919 V-RAI-3S in G1722 PREP his G3588 T-DSF heart G2588 N-DSF that G3588 T-ASF he G3588 T-ASF will keep G5083 V-PAN his G1438 F-3GSM virgin G3933 N-ASF , doeth G4160 V-PAI-3S well G2573 ADV .
38 So then G5620 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM that G3588 T-NSM giveth her G3588 T-NSM in marriage G1547 V-PAP-NSM doeth G4160 V-PAI-3S well G2573 ADV ; but G1161 CONJ he that giveth her not in marriage G1547 V-PAP-NSM doeth G4160 V-PAI-3S better G2908 A-ASN .
39 The wife G1135 N-NSF is bound G1210 V-RPI-3S by the law G3551 N-DSM as long as PREP her G3588 T-NSM husband G435 N-NSM liveth G2198 V-PAI-3S ; but G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND her G3588 T-NSM husband G435 N-NSM be dead G2837 V-APS-3S , she is G2076 V-PXI-3S at liberty G1658 A-NSF to be married G1060 V-APN to whom G3739 R-DSM she will G2309 V-PAI-3S ; only G3440 ADV in G1722 PREP the Lord G2962 N-DSM .
40 But G1161 CONJ she is G2076 V-PXI-3S happier G3107 A-NSF-C if G1437 COND she so G3779 ADV abide G3306 V-AAS-3S , after G2596 PREP my G1699 S-1ASF judgment G1106 N-ASF : and G1161 CONJ I think G1380 V-PAI-1S also that I G2504 P-1NS-C have G2192 V-PAN the Spirit G4151 N-ASN of God G2316 N-GSM .
