1 അനന്തരം അമ്മോന്യനായ നാഹാശ് പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശിന്നു നേരെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി; യാബേശ് നിവാസികൾ ഒക്കെയും നാഹാശിനോടു: ഞങ്ങളോടു ഒരു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്യേണം; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നെ സേവിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
2 അമ്മോന്യനായ നാഹാശ് അവരോടു: നിങ്ങളുടെ വലങ്കണ്ണൊക്കെയും ചുഴന്നെടുക്കയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിന്മേലും ഈ നിന്ദ വരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നുള്ള സമ്മതത്തിന്മേൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്യാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
3 യാബേശിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാർ അവനോടു: ഞങ്ങൾ യിസ്രായേൽദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും ദൂതന്മാരെ അയപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ഏഴു ദിവസത്തെ ഇട തരേണം; ഞങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിപ്പാൻ ആരുമില്ലെങ്കിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഇറങ്ങിവരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
4 ദൂതന്മാർ ശൌലിന്റെ ഗിബെയയിൽ ചെന്നു ആ വർത്തമാനം ജനത്തെ പറഞ്ഞു കേൾപ്പിച്ചു; ജനമെല്ലാം ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു.
5 അപ്പോൾ ഇതാ, ശൌൽ കന്നുകാലികളെയും കൊണ്ടു വയലിൽനിന്നു വരുന്നു. ജനം കരയുന്ന സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു ശൌൽ ചോദിച്ചു. അവർ യാബേശ്യരുടെ വർത്തമാനം അവനെ അറിയിച്ചു.
6 ശൌൽ വർത്തമാനം കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു അവന്റെമേൽ ശക്തിയോടെ വന്നു; അവന്റെ കോപം ഏറ്റവും ജ്വലിച്ചു.
7 അവൻ ഒരേർ കാളയെ പിടിച്ചു കഷണംകഷണമായി ഖണ്ഡിച്ചു ദൂതന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിൽ യിസ്രായേൽദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു: ആരെങ്കിലും ശൌലിന്റെയും ശമൂവേലിന്റെയും പിന്നാലെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരാതിരുന്നാൽ അവന്റെ കാളകളെ ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറയിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ ഭീതി ജനത്തിന്മേൽ വീണു, അവർ ഏകമനസ്സോടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.
8 അവൻ ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ചു അവരെ എണ്ണി; യിസ്രായേല്യർ മൂന്നു ലക്ഷവും യെഹൂദ്യർ മുപ്പതിനായിരവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
9 വന്ന ദൂതന്മാരോടു അവർ: നിങ്ങൾ ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ്യരോടു: നാളെ വെയിൽ മൂക്കുമ്പോഴേക്കു നിങ്ങൾക്കു രക്ഷ ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു പറവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ദൂതന്മാർ ചെന്നു യാബേശ്യരോടു അറിയിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവർ സന്തോഷിച്ചു.
10 പിന്നെ യാബേശ്യർ: നാളെ ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ ഇറങ്ങിവരും; നിങ്ങൾക്കു ബോധിച്ചതൊക്കെയും ഞങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊൾവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.
11 പിറ്റെന്നാൾ ശൌൽ ജനത്തെ മൂന്നു കൂട്ടമായി വിഭാഗിച്ചു; അവർ പ്രഭാതയാമത്തിൽ പാളയത്തിന്റെ നടുവിലേക്കു ചെന്നു വെയിൽ മൂക്കുംവരെ അമ്മോന്യരെ സംഹരിച്ചു; ശേഷിച്ചവരോ രണ്ടു പേർ ഒന്നിച്ചിരിക്കാതവണ്ണം ചിതറിപ്പോയി.
12 അനന്തരം ജനം ശമൂവേലിനോടു: ശൌൽ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു രാജാവായിരിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതു ആർ? അവരെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതരേണം; ഞങ്ങൾ അവരെ കൊന്നുകളയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
13 അതിന്നു ശൌൽ: ഇന്നു ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെയും കൊല്ലരുതു; ഇന്നു യഹോവ യസ്രായേലിന്നു രക്ഷ വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
14 പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ ജനത്തോടു: വരുവിൻ; നാം ഗില്ഗാലിൽ ചെന്നു, അവിടെവെച്ചു രാജത്വം പുതുക്കുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
15 അങ്ങനെ ജനമെല്ലാം ഗില്ഗാലിൽ ചെന്നു; അവർ ശൌലിനെ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽവെച്ചു രാജാവാക്കി. അവർ അവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങൾ കഴിച്ചു; ശൌലും യിസ്രായേല്യരൊക്കെയും ഏറ്റവും സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

2 And Nahash H5176 the Ammonite H5984 answered H559 W-VQY3MS them , On this H2063 condition will I make H3772 a covenant with you , that I may thrust out H5365 all H3605 NMS your right H3225 NFS eyes H5869 CMS , and lay H7760 it for a reproach H2781 upon H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 LMS .
3 And the elders H2205 of Jabesh H3003 said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Give us seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP \' respite H7503 , that we may send H7971 messengers H4397 unto all H3605 the coasts H1366 CMS of Israel H3478 : and then , if H518 W-PART there be no man H369 NPAR to save H3467 us , we will come out H3318 to H413 thee .

5 And , behold H2009 IJEC , Saul H7586 came H935 VQPMS after H310 PREP the herd H1241 D-NMS out of H4480 PREP the field H7704 D-NMS ; and Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IPRO aileth the people H5971 that H3588 CONJ they weep H1058 ? 9 And they said H559 W-VQY3MP unto the messengers H4397 that came H935 , Thus H3541 shall ye say H559 unto the men H376 L-NMS of Jabesh H3003 - gilead , Tomorrow H4279 NMS , by that time the sun H8121 be hot H2527 , ye shall have H1961 VQY2MS help H8668 . And the messengers H4397 came H935 W-VQY3MP and showed H5046 it to the men H376 of Jabesh H3003 ; and they were glad H8055 .
10 Therefore the men H376 of Jabesh H3003 said H559 , Tomorrow H4279 NMS we will come out H3318 unto H413 you , and ye shall do H6213 with us all H3605 that seemeth H5869 B-CMD-2MP good H2896 D-NMS unto you .

12 And the people H5971 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Samuel H8050 , Who H4310 IPRO is he that said H559 W-VQY3MS , Shall Saul H7586 reign H4427 over H5921 PREP-1MP us ? bring H5414 the men H376 D-NMP , that we may put them to death H4191 .
13 And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , There shall not H3808 ADV a man H376 NMS be put to death H4191 this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 B-AMS : for H3588 CONJ today H3117 D-AMS the LORD H3068 EDS hath wrought H6213 VQQ3MS salvation H8668 in Israel H3478 .
14 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS Samuel H8050 to H413 PREP the people H5971 , Come H1980 VQI2MP , and let us go H1980 to Gilgal H1537 , and renew H2318 the kingdom H4410 there H8033 ADV .
