2 Kings 7 (YLT) Young's Literal Translation

1 And Elisha saith, `Hear ye a word of Jehovah: thus said Jehovah, About this time to-morrow, a measure of fine flour is at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.`
2 And the captain whom the king hath, by whose hand he hath been supported, answereth the man of God and saith, `Lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens -- shall this thing be?` and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing it with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat.`
3 And four men have been leprous, at the opening of the gate, and they say one unto another, `What -- we are sitting here till we have died;
4 if we have said, We go in to the city, then the famine is in the city, and we have died there; and if we have sat here, then we have died; and now, come and we fall unto the camp of Aram; if they keep us alive, we live, and if they put us to death -- we have died.`
5 And they rise in the twilight, to go in unto the camp of Aram, and they come in unto the extremity of the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not a man there,
6 seeing Jehovah hath caused the camp of Aram to hear a noise of chariot and a noise of horse -- a noise of great force, and they say one unto another, `Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us.`
7 And they rise and flee in the twilight, and forsake their tents, and their horses, and their asses -- the camp as it is -- and flee for their life.
8 And these lepers come in unto the extremity of the camp, and come in unto one tent, and eat, and drink, and lift up thence silver, and gold, and garments, and go and hide; and they turn back and go in unto another tent, and lift up thence, and go and hide.
9 And they say one unto another, `We are not doing right this day; a day of tidings it is, and we are keeping silent; and -- we have waited till the light of the morning, then hath punishment found us; and now, come and we go in and declare to the house of the king.`
10 And they come in, and call unto the gatekeeper of the city, and declare for themselves, saying, `We have come in unto the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not there a man, or sound of man, but the bound horse, and the bound ass, and tents as they are.`
11 and he calleth the gatekeepers, and they declare to the house of the king within.
12 And the king riseth by night, and saith unto his servants, `Let me declare, I pray you, to you that which the Aramaeans have done to us; they have known that we are famished, and they are gone out from the camp to be hidden in the field, saying, When they come out from the city, then we catch them alive, and unto the city we enter.`
13 And one of his servants answereth and saith, `Then let them take, I pray thee, five of the horses that are left, that have been left in it -- lo, they are as all the multitude of Israel who have been left in it; lo, they are as all the multitude of Israel who have been consumed -- and we send and see.`
14 And they take two chariot-horses, and the king sendeth after the camp of Aram, saying, `Go, and see.`
15 And they go after them unto the Jordan, and lo, all the way is full of garments and vessels that the Aramaeans have cast away in their haste, and the messengers turn back and declare to the king.
16 And the people go out and spoil the camp of Aram, and there is a measure of fine flour at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, according to the word of Jehovah.
17 And the king hath appointed the captain, by whose hand he is supported, over the gate, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth, as the man of God spake, which he spake in the coming down of the king unto him,
18 yea, it cometh to pass, according to the speaking of the man of God unto the king, saying, `Two measures of barley at a shekel, and a measure of fine flour at a shekel are, at this time to-morrow, in the gate of Samaria;`
19 and the captain answereth the man of God, and saith, `And lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens -- it is according to this word?` and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat;`
20 and it cometh to him so, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth.

2 Then a lord H7991 on H5921 PREP whose H834 RPRO hand H3027 CFS-3MS the king H4428 leaned H8172 answered H6030 W-VQY3MS the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , if the LORD H3068 EDS would make H6213 VQPMS windows H699 in heaven H8064 BD-NMP , might this H2088 D-PMS thing H1697 D-NMS be H1961 ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , thou shalt see H7200 VQPMS it with thine eyes H5869 , but shalt not H3808 NADV eat H398 thereof H8033 WM-ADV .
3 And there were H1961 VQQ3MP four H702 leprous H6879 men H376 NMS at the entering in H6607 CMS of the gate H8179 : and they said H559 one H376 NMS to H413 PREP another H7453 NMS-3MS , Why H4100 IGAT sit H3427 we H587 PPRO-1MP here H6311 ADV until H5704 PREP we die H4191 ?
4 If H518 PART we say H559 , We will enter H935 VNQ3MS into the city H5892 D-GFS , then the famine H7458 is in the city H5892 BD-NFS , and we shall die H4191 there H8033 ADV : and if H518 PART we sit H3427 still here H6311 , we die H4191 also . Now H6258 W-ADV therefore come H1980 VQI2MP , and let us fall H5307 unto H413 PREP the host H4264 of the Syrians H758 EMS : if H518 PART they save us alive H2421 , we shall live H2421 ; and if H518 PART they kill H4191 us , we shall but die H4191 .
5 And they rose up H6965 in the twilight H5399 , to go H935 L-VQFC unto H413 PREP the camp H4264 of the Syrians H758 EMS : and when they were come H935 W-VQY3MP to H5704 PREP the uttermost part H7097 of the camp H4264 of Syria H758 EMS , behold H2009 IJEC , there was no H369 ADV man H376 NMS there H8033 ADV .
6 For the Lord H136 had made the host H4264 of the Syrians H758 EMS to hear H8085 a noise H6963 CMS of chariots H7393 , and a noise H6963 CMS of horses H5483 , even the noise H6963 CMS of a great H1419 AMS host H2428 NMS : and they said H559 W-VQY3MP one H376 NMS to H413 PREP another H251 CMS-3MS , Lo H2009 IJEC , the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 hath hired H7936 against H5921 PREP-1MP us the kings H4428 NMS of the Hittites H2850 , and the kings H4428 NMS of the Egyptians H4714 EFS , to come H935 L-VQFC upon H5921 us .
7 Wherefore they arose H6965 and fled H5127 in the twilight H5399 , and left H5800 their tents H168 , and their horses H5483 , and their asses H2543 , even the camp H4264 as H834 K-RPRO it H1931 PPRO-3FS was , and fled H5127 W-VQY3MP for H413 PREP their life H5315 .
8 And when these H428 D-DPRO-3MP lepers H6879 came H935 W-VQY3MP to H5704 PREP the uttermost part H7097 of the camp H4264 , they went H935 W-VQY3MP into H413 PREP one H259 MMS tent H168 NMS , and did eat H398 W-VQY3MP and drink H8354 , and carried H5375 W-VQY3MP thence H8033 M-ADV silver H3701 NMS , and gold H2091 , and raiment H899 , and went H1980 W-VQY3MP and hid H2934 it ; and came again H7725 W-VUY3MP , and entered H935 W-VQY3MP into H413 PREP another H312 AMS tent H168 NMS , and carried H5375 W-VQY3MP thence H8033 M-ADV also , and went H1980 W-VQY3MP and hid H2934 it .
9 Then they said H559 W-VQY3MP one H376 NMS to H413 PREP another H7453 NMS-3MS , We H587 PPRO-1MP do H6213 not H3808 ADV well H3651 ADV : this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 NUM-MS is a day H3117 NMS of good tidings H1309 , and we H587 hold our peace H2814 : if we tarry H2442 till H5704 PREP the morning H1242 light H216 NMS , some mischief H5771 will come upon H4672 us : now H6258 W-ADV therefore come H1980 VQI2MP , that we may go H935 and tell H5046 the king H4428 \'s household H1004 CMS .
10 So they came H935 W-VQY3MP and called H7121 unto H413 PREP the porter H7778 of the city H5892 D-GFS : and they told H5046 them , saying H559 L-VQFC , We came H935 to H413 PREP the camp H4264 of the Syrians H758 EMS , and , behold H2009 IJEC , there was no H369 ADV man H376 NMS there H8033 ADV , neither voice H6963 W-CMS of man H120 NMS , but H518 PART horses H5483 tied H631 , and asses H2543 tied H631 , and the tents H168 as H834 K-RPRO they H1992 were .
11 And he called H7121 W-VQY3MS the porters H7778 ; and they told H5046 it to the king H4428 D-NMS \'s house H1004 CMS within H6441 .
12 And the king H4428 D-NMS arose H6965 W-VQY3MS in the night H3915 GMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP his servants H5650 , I will now H4994 IJEC show H5046 you what H834 RPRO the Syrians H758 EMS have done H6213 VQQ3MP to us . They know H3045 VQQ3MP that H3588 CONJ we H587 PPRO-1MP be hungry H7457 ; therefore are they gone out H3318 W-VQY3MP of H4480 PREP the camp H4264 to hide themselves H2247 in the field H7704 , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , When H3588 CONJ they come out H3318 of H4480 PREP the city H5892 D-GFS , we shall catch H8610 them alive H2416 NMP , and get H935 into H413 PREP the city H5892 D-GFS .
13 And one H259 MMS of his servants H5650 answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Let some take H3947 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , five H2568 of H4480 PREP the horses H5483 that remain H7604 , which H834 RPRO are left H7604 in the city H2009 , ( behold H2009 , they are as all H3605 the multitude H1995 of Israel H3478 that H834 RPRO are left H7604 in it : behold H2009 , I say , they are even as all H3605 the multitude H1995 of the Israelites H3478 that H834 RPRO are consumed H8552 : ) and let us send H7971 and see H7200 .
14 They took H3947 W-VQY3MP therefore two H8147 ONUM chariot H7393 horses H5483 ; and the king H4428 D-NMS sent H7971 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP the host H4264 of the Syrians H758 EMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Go H1980 VQI2MP and see H7200 .
15 And they went H1980 W-VQY3MP after H310 them unto H5704 PREP Jordan H3383 D-EFS : and , lo H2009 IJEC , all H3605 CMS the way H1870 D-NMS was full H4392 of garments H899 and vessels H3627 , which H834 RPRO the Syrians H758 EMS had cast away H7993 in their haste H2648 . And the messengers H4397 returned H7725 W-VUY3MP , and told H5046 the king H4428 .
16 And the people H5971 went out H3318 W-VQY3MS , and spoiled H962 the tents H4264 of the Syrians H758 EMS . So a measure H5429 of fine flour H5560 was H1961 W-VQY3MS sold for a shekel H8255 , and two measures H5429 of barley H8184 for a shekel H8255 , according to the word H1697 K-NMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
17 And the king H4428 appointed H6485 the lord H7991 on H5921 PREP whose H834 RPRO hand H3027 CFS-3MS he leaned H8172 to have the charge of H5921 PREP the gate H8179 : and the people H5971 trod upon H7429 him in the gate H8179 , and he died H4191 , as H834 RPRO the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP had said H1696 VPQ3MS , who H834 RPRO spoke H1696 VPQ3MS when the king H4428 D-NMS came down H3381 to H413 him .
18 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS as the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP had spoken H1696 K-VPFC to H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Two measures H5429 of barley H8184 for a shekel H8255 , and a measure H5429 of fine flour H5560 for a shekel H8255 , shall be H1961 VQY3MS tomorrow H4279 NMS about this time H6256 KD-NMS in the gate H8179 of Samaria H8111 :
19 And that lord H7991 answered H6030 W-VQY3MS the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Now , behold H2009 IJEC , if the LORD H3068 EDS should make H6213 VQPMS windows H699 in heaven H8064 BD-NMP , might such H2088 D-PMS a thing H1697 be H1961 ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , thou shalt see H7200 VQPMS it with thine eyes H5869 , but shalt not H3808 NADV eat H398 thereof H8033 WM-ADV .
20 And so H3651 ADV it fell out H1961 W-VQY3MS unto him : for the people H5971 trod upon H7429 him in the gate H8179 , and he died H4191 W-VQY3MS .
