Numbers 8:1 (YLT) Young's Literal Translation

1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
2 `Speak unto Aaron, and thou hast said unto him, In thy causing the lights to go up, over-against the face of the candlestick do the seven lights give light.`
3 And Aaron doth so; over-against the face of the candlestick he hath caused its lights to go up, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
4 And this is the work of the candlestick: beaten work of gold; unto its thigh, unto its flower it is beaten work; as the appearance which Jehovah shewed Moses, so he hath made the candlestick.
5 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
6 `Take the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel, and thou hast cleansed them.
7 `And thus thou dost to them to cleanse them: sprinkle upon them waters of atonement, and they have caused a razor to pass over all their flesh, and have washed their garments, and cleansed themselves,
8 and have taken a bullock, a son of the herd, and its present, flour mixed with oil, -- and a second bullock a son of the herd thou dost take for a sin-offering,
9 and thou hast brought near the Levites before the tent of meeting, and thou hast assembled the whole company of the sons of Israel,
10 and thou hast brought near the Levites before Jehovah, and the sons of Israel have laid their hands on the Levites,
11 and Aaron hath waved the Levites -- a wave-offering before Jehovah, from the sons of Israel, and they have been -- for doing the service of Jehovah.
12 `And the Levites lay their hands on the head of the bullocks, and make thou the one a sin-offering, and the one a burnt-offering to Jehovah, to atone for the Levites,
13 and thou hast caused the Levites to stand before Aaron, and before his sons, and hast waved them -- a wave-offering to Jehovah;
14 and thou hast separated the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel, and the Levites have become Mine;
15 and afterwards do the Levites come in to serve the tent of meeting, and thou hast cleansed them, and hast waved them -- a wave-offering.
16 `For they are certainly given to Me out of the midst of the sons of Israel, instead of him who openeth any womb -- the first-born of all -- from the sons of Israel I have taken them to Myself;
17 for Mine is every first-born among the sons of Israel, among man and among beast; in the day of my smiting every first-born in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for Myself;
18 and I take the Levites instead of every first-born among the sons of Israel:
19 `And I give the Levites gifts to Aaron and to his sons, from the midst of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the sons of Israel in the tent of meeting, and to make atonement for the sons of Israel, and there is no plague among the sons of Israel in the sons of Israel's drawing nigh unto the sanctuary.`
20 And Moses doth -- Aaron also, and all the company of the sons of Israel -- to the Levites according to all that Jehovah hath commanded Moses concerning the Levites; so have the sons of Israel done to them.
21 And the Levites cleanse themselves, and wash their garments, and Aaron waveth them a wave-offering before Jehovah, and Aaron maketh atonement for them to cleanse them,
22 and afterwards have the Levites gone in to do their service in the tent of meeting, before Aaron and before his sons; as Jehovah hath commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they have done to them.
23 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
24 `This is that which is the Levites`: from a son of five and twenty years and upward he doth go in to serve the host in the service of the tent of meeting,
25 and from a son of fifty years he doth return from the host of the service, and doth not serve any more,
26 and he hath ministered with his brethren in the tent of meeting, to keep the charge, and doth not do service; thus thou dost to the Levites concerning their charge.`
1 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
2 Speak H1696 VPFC unto H413 PREP Aaron H175 , and say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MS him , When thou lightest H5927 the lamps H5216 , the seven H7651 RMS lamps H5216 shall give light H215 over against H413 PREP 6 H6440 PREP the candlestick H4501 .
3 And Aaron H175 did H6213 W-VQY3MS so H3651 ADV ; he lighted H5927 the lamps H5216 thereof over against H413 PREP 6 H6440 PREP the candlestick H4501 , as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS commanded H6680 VPQ3MS Moses H4872 .
4 And this H2088 W-PMS work H4639 M-CMS of the candlestick H4501 was of beaten H4749 gold H2091 NMS , unto H5704 PREP the shaft H3409 thereof , unto H5704 PREP the flowers H6525 thereof , was beaten work H4749 : according unto the pattern H4758 which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had showed H7200 Moses H4872 , so H3651 ADV he made H6213 VQQ3MS the candlestick H4501 .
5 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
6 Take H3947 VQI2MS the Levites H3881 from among H8432 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , and cleanse H2891 them .
7 And thus H3541 shalt thou do H6213 unto them , to cleanse H2891 them : Sprinkle H5137 water H4325 of purifying H2403 CFS upon H5921 PREP them , and let them shave H5674 all H3605 NMS their flesh H1320 , and let them wash H3526 their clothes H899 , and so make themselves clean H2891 .
8 Then let them take H3947 a young H1121 CMS bullock H6499 with his meat offering H4503 , even fine flour H5560 mingled H1101 with oil H8081 , and another H8145 young H1121 CMS bullock H6499 shalt thou take H3947 VQY2MS for a sin offering H2403 .
9 And thou shalt bring H7126 the Levites H3881 before H6440 L-CMP the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS : and thou shalt gather H6950 the whole H3605 NMS assembly H5712 CFS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 LMS together :
10 And thou shalt bring H7126 the Levites H3881 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS : and the children H1121 CMP of Israel H3478 shall put H5564 their hands H3027 CFD-3MP upon H5921 PREP the Levites H3881 :
11 And Aaron H175 shall offer H5130 the Levites H3881 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS for an offering H8573 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , that they may execute H1961 W-VQQ3MS the service H5656 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
12 And the Levites H3881 shall lay H5564 their hands H3027 CFD-3MP upon H5921 PREP the heads H7218 NMS of the bullocks H6499 : and thou shalt offer H6213 the one H259 for a sin offering H2403 CFS , and the other H259 for a burnt offering H5930 , unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , to make an atonement H3722 for H5921 PREP the Levites H3881 .
13 And thou shalt set H5975 the Levites H3881 before H6440 L-CMP Aaron H175 , and before H6440 L-CMP his sons H1121 CMP-3MS , and offer H5130 them for an offering H8573 unto the LORD H3068 L-NAME-4MS .
14 Thus shalt thou separate H914 the Levites H3881 from among H8432 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : and the Levites H3881 shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS mine .
15 And after H310 that H3651 ADV shall the Levites H3881 go in H935 VQY3MP to do the service H5647 of the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS : and thou shalt cleanse H2891 them , and offer H5130 them for an offering H8573 .
16 For H3588 CONJ they H1992 PPRO-3MP are wholly given H5414 unto me from among H8432 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 ; instead of H8478 NMS such as open H6363 every H3605 NMS womb H7358 NMS , even instead of the firstborn H1060 CMS of all H3605 NMS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , have I taken H3947 them unto me .
17 For H3588 CONJ all H3605 CMS the firstborn H1060 CMS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 are mine , both man H120 and beast H929 WB-NFS : on the day H3117 B-NMS that I smote H5221 every H3605 CMS firstborn H1060 CMS in the land H776 B-GFS of Egypt H4714 EFS I sanctified H6942 them for myself .
18 And I have taken H3947 the Levites H3881 for H8478 NMS all H3605 NMS the firstborn H1060 CMS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 LMS .
19 And I have given H5414 the Levites H3881 as a gift H5414 to Aaron H175 and to his sons H1121 from among H8432 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , to do H5647 the service H5656 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 NMS , and to make an atonement H3722 for H5921 PREP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : that there be H1961 VQY3MS no H3808 W-NPAR plague H5063 among the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , when the children H1121 of Israel H3478 come nigh H5066 unto H413 PREP the sanctuary H6944 .
20 And Moses H4872 , and Aaron H175 , and all H3605 W-CMS the congregation H5712 CFS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , did H6213 W-VQY3MS to the Levites H3881 according unto all H3605 K-NMS that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS commanded H6680 VPQ3MS Moses H4872 concerning the Levites H3881 , so H3651 ADV did H6213 W-VQY3MS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 LMS unto them .
21 And the Levites H3881 were purified H2398 , and they washed H3526 their clothes H899 ; and Aaron H175 offered H5130 them as an offering H8573 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS ; and Aaron H175 made an atonement H3722 for H5921 PREP-3MP them to cleanse H2891 them .
22 And after H310 that H3651 ADV went the Levites in VQQ3MP to do H5647 their service H5656 in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 NMS before H6440 L-CMP Aaron H175 , and before H6440 L-CMP his sons H1121 CMP-3MS : as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had commanded H6680 VPQ3MS Moses H4872 concerning H5921 PREP the Levites H3881 , so H3651 ADV did H6213 VQQ3MP they unto them .
23 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
24 This H2063 DPRO is it that H834 RPRO belongeth unto the Levites H3881 : from twenty H6242 W-MMP and five H2568 MFS years H8141 NFS old H1121 and upward H4605 they shall go in H935 VQY3MS to wait upon H6633 the service H5656 of the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 :
25 And from the age H1121 of fifty H2572 MMP years H8141 NFS they shall cease waiting upon H7725 VQY3MS the service H5656 thereof , and shall serve H5647 no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV :
26 But shall minister H8334 with H854 PREP their brethren H251 NMP-3MS in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 NMS , to keep H8104 L-VQFC the charge H4931 , and shall do H5647 no H3808 NADV service H5656 . Thus H3602 ADV shalt thou do H6213 VQY2MS unto the Levites H3881 touching their charge H4931 .
