Mark 7:1 (YLT) Young's Literal Translation

1 And gathered together unto him are the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, having come from Jerusalem,
2 and having seen certain of his disciples with defiled hands -- that is, unwashed -- eating bread, they found fault;
3 for the Pharisees, and all the Jews, if they do not wash the hands to the wrist, do not eat, holding the tradition of the elders,
4 and, coming from the market-place, if they do not baptize themselves, they do not eat; and many other things there are that they received to hold, baptisms of cups, and pots, and brazen vessels, and couches.
5 Then question him do the Pharisees and the scribes, `Wherefore do thy disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but with unwashed hands do eat the bread?`
6 and he answering said to them -- `Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, hypocrites, as it hath been written, This people with the lips doth honor Me, and their heart is far from Me;
7 and in vain do they worship Me, teaching teachings, commands of men;
8 for, having put away the command of God, ye hold the tradition of men, baptisms of pots and cups; and many other such like things ye do.`
9 And he said to them, `Well do ye put away the command of God that your tradition ye may keep;
10 for Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother -- let him die the death;
11 and ye say, If a man may say to father or to mother, Korban (that is, a gift), is whatever thou mayest be profited out of mine,
12 and no more do ye suffer him to do anything for his father or for his mother,
13 setting aside the word of God for your tradition that ye delivered; and many such like things ye do.`
14 And having called near all the multitude, he said to them, `Hearken to me, ye all, and understand;
15 there is nothing from without the man entering into him that is able to defile him, but the things coming out from him, those are the things defiling the man.
16 If any hath ears to hear -- let him hear.`
17 And when he entered into a house from the multitude, his disciples were questioning him about the simile,
18 and he saith to them, `So also ye are without understanding! Do ye not perceive that nothing from without entering into the man is able to defile him?
19 because it doth not enter into his heart, but into the belly, and into the drain it doth go out, purifying all the meats.`
20 And he said -- `That which is coming out from the man, that doth defile the man;
21 for from within, out of the heart of men, the evil reasonings do come forth, adulteries, whoredoms, murders,
22 thefts, covetous desires, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, an evil eye, evil speaking, pride, foolishness;
23 all these evils do come forth from within, and they defile the man.`
24 And from thence having risen, he went away to the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and having entered into the house, he wished none to know, and he was not able to be hid,
25 for a woman having heard about him, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having come, fell at his feet, --
26 and the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phenician by nation -- and was asking him, that the demon he may cast forth out of her daughter.
27 And Jesus said to her, `Suffer first the children to be filled, for it is not good to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the little dogs.`
28 And she answered and saith to him, `Yes, sir; for the little dogs also under the table do eat of the children's crumbs.`
29 And he said to her, `Because of this word go; the demon hath gone forth out of thy daughter;`
30 and having come away to her house, she found the demon gone forth, and the daughter laid upon the couch.
31 And again, having gone forth from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis,
32 and they bring to him a deaf, stuttering man, and they call on him that he may put the hand on him.
33 And having taken him away from the multitude by himself, he put his fingers to his ears, and having spit, he touched his tongue,
34 and having looked to the heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, `Ephphatha,` that is, `Be thou opened;`
35 and immediately were his ears opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he was speaking plain.
36 And he charged them that they may tell no one, but the more he was charging them, the more abundantly they were proclaiming it,
37 and they were being beyond measure astonished, saying, `Well hath he done all things; both the deaf he doth make to hear, and the dumb to speak.`

2 And G2532 CONJ when they saw G1492 V-2AAP-NPM some G5100 X-APM of G3588 T-GPM his G3588 T-GPM disciples G3101 N-GPM eat G2068 V-PAP-APM bread G740 N-APM with defiled G2839 A-DPF , that is to say G5123 , with unwashen G449 A-DPM , hands G5495 N-DPF , they found fault G3201 V-ADI-3P .
3 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM , and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-NPM the G3588 T-NPM Jews G2453 A-NPM , except G3362 they G3588 T-APF wash G3538 V-AMS-3P their hands G5495 N-APF oft G4435 N-DSF , eat G2068 V-PAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N , holding G2902 V-PAP-NPM the G3588 T-ASF tradition G3862 N-ASF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM elders G4245 A-GPM .
4 And G2532 CONJ when they come from G575 PREP the market G58 N-GSF , except G3362 they wash G907 V-AMS-3P , they eat G2068 V-PAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N . And G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-NPN other things G243 A-NPN there be G2076 V-PXI-3S , which G3739 R-APN they have received G3880 V-2AAI-3P to hold G2902 V-PAN , as the washing G909 N-APM of cups G4221 N-GPN , and G2532 CONJ pots G3582 N-GPM , brazen vessels G5473 N-GPN , and G2532 CONJ of tables G2825 N-GPF .
5 Then G1899 ADV the G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM and G2532 CONJ scribes G1122 N-NPM asked G1905 V-PAI-3P him G846 P-ASM , Why G1302 walk G4043 V-PAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N thy G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM according G2596 PREP to the G3588 T-ASF tradition G3862 N-ASF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM elders G4245 A-GPM , but G235 CONJ eat G2068 V-PAI-3P bread G740 N-ASM with unwashen G449 A-DPM hands G5495 N-DPF ?
6 He G3588 T-NSM answered G611 V-AOP-NSM and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Well G2573 ADV hath Isaiah G2268 N-NSM prophesied G4395 V-AAI-3S of G4012 PREP you G3588 T-GPM hypocrites G5273 N-GPM , as G5613 ADV it is written G1125 V-RPI-3S , This G3588 T-NSM people G2992 N-NSM honoreth G5091 V-PAI-3S me G3165 P-1AS with their G3588 T-NSM lips G5491 N-DPN , but G1161 CONJ their G846 P-GPM heart G2588 N-NSF is far G568 V-PAI-3S from G575 PREP me G1700 P-1GS .
7 Howbeit G1161 CONJ in vain G3155 ADV do they worship G4576 V-PNI-3P me G3165 P-1AS , teaching G1321 V-PAP-NPM for doctrines G1319 N-APF the commandments G1778 N-APN of men G444 N-GPM .
8 For G1063 CONJ laying aside G863 V-2AAP-NPM the G3588 T-ASF commandment G1785 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM , ye hold G2902 V-PAI-2P the G3588 T-ASF tradition G3862 N-ASF of men G444 N-GPM , as the washing G909 N-APM of pots G3582 N-GPM and G2532 CONJ cups G4221 N-GPN : and G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-APN other G243 A-APN such G5108 D-APN like things G3946 A-APN ye do G4160 V-PAI-2P .
9 And G2532 CONJ he said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Full well G2573 ADV ye reject G114 V-PAI-2P the G3588 T-ASF commandment G1785 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM , that G2443 CONJ ye may keep G5083 V-AAS-2P your G3588 T-ASF own G5216 P-2GP tradition G3862 N-ASF .
10 For G1063 CONJ Moses G3475 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Honor G5091 V-PAM-2S thy G3588 T-ASM father G3962 N-ASM and G2532 CONJ thy G3588 T-ASF mother G3384 N-ASF ; and , whoso curseth G2551 V-PAP-NSM father G3962 N-ASM or G2228 PRT mother G3384 N-ASF , let him die G5053 V-PAM-3S the death G2288 N-DSM :
11 But G1161 CONJ ye G5210 P-2NP say G3004 V-PAI-2P , If G1437 COND a man G444 N-NSM shall say G2036 V-2AAS-3S to his father G3962 N-DSM or G2228 PRT mother G3384 N-DSF , It is Corban G2878 HEB , that is to say G3603 , a gift G1435 N-NSN , by whatsoever G3739 R-NSN thou mightest be profited G5623 V-APS-2S by G1537 PREP me G1700 P-1GS ; he shall be free .
12 And G2532 CONJ ye suffer G863 V-PAI-2P him G846 P-ASM no more G3765 ADV to do G4160 V-AAN aught G3762 A-ASN for G3588 T-DSM his G3588 T-DSM father G3962 N-DSM or G2228 PRT his G3588 T-DSF mother G3384 N-DSF ;
13 Making the word of God of none effect G208 V-PAP-NPM through your G3588 T-DSF tradition G3862 N-DSF , which G3739 R-DSF ye have delivered G3860 V-AAI-2P : and G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-APN such G5108 D-APN like things G3946 A-APN do G4160 V-PAI-2P ye .
14 And G2532 CONJ when he had called G4341 V-ADP-NSM all G3956 A-ASM the G3588 T-ASM people G3793 N-ASM unto him , he said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Hearken G191 V-PAM-2P unto me G3450 P-1GS every one G3956 A-NPM of you , and G2532 CONJ understand G4920 V-PAM-2P :
15 There is G2076 V-PXI-3S nothing G3762 A-NSN from without G1855 ADV a man G444 N-GSM , that G3739 R-NSN entering G1531 V-PNP-NSN into G1519 PREP him G846 P-ASM can G1410 V-PNI-3S defile G2840 V-AAN him G846 P-ASM : but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN things which come G1607 V-PNP-NPN out of G575 PREP him G846 P-GSM , those G1565 D-NPN are G2076 V-PXI-3S they that defile G2840 V-PAP-NPN the G3588 T-ASM man G444 N-ASM .
16 If any man G1536 have G2192 V-PAI-3S ears G3775 N-APN to hear G191 V-PAN , let him hear G191 V-PAM-3S .
17 And G2532 CONJ when G3753 ADV he was entered G1525 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP the house G3624 N-ASM from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSM people G3793 N-GSM , his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM asked G1905 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-GSM concerning G4012 PREP the G3588 T-GSF parable G3850 N-GSF .
18 And G2532 CONJ he saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Are G2075 V-PXI-2P ye G5210 P-2NP so G3779 ADV without understanding G801 A-NPM also G2532 CONJ ? Do ye not G3756 PRT-N perceive G3539 V-PAI-2P , that G3754 CONJ whatsoever thing G3956 A-NSN from without G1855 ADV entereth G1531 V-PNP-NSN into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM man G444 N-ASM , it cannot G1410 V-PNI-3S defile G2840 V-AAN him G846 P-ASM ;
19 Because G3754 CONJ it entereth G1531 V-PNI-3S not G3756 PRT-N into G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASF heart G2588 N-ASF , but G235 CONJ into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF belly G2836 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ goeth out G1607 V-PNI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM draught G856 N-ASM , purging G2511 V-PAP-NSN all G3956 A-APN meats G1033 N-APN ?
20 And G1161 CONJ he said G3004 V-IAI-3S , That G3588 T-NSN which G3588 T-NSN cometh G1607 V-PNP-NSN out of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSM man G444 N-GSM , that G1565 D-NSN defileth G2840 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM man G444 N-ASM .
21 For G1063 CONJ from within G2081 ADV , out of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSF heart G2588 N-GSF of men G444 N-GPM , proceed G1607 V-PNI-3P evil G2556 A-NPM thoughts G1261 N-NPM , adulteries G3430 N-NPF , fornications G4202 N-NPF , murders G5408 N-NPM ,
22 Thefts G2829 N-NPF , covetousness G4124 N-NPF , wickedness G4189 N-NPF , deceit G1388 N-NSM , lasciviousness G766 N-NSF , an evil G4190 A-NSM eye G3788 N-NSM , blasphemy G988 N-NSF , pride G5243 N-NSF , foolishness G877 N-NSF :
23 All G3956 A-NPN these G3588 T-NPN evil things G4190 A-NPN come G1607 V-PNI-3S from within G2081 ADV , and G2532 CONJ defile G2840 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM man G444 N-ASM .
24 And G2532 CONJ from thence G1564 ADV he arose G450 V-2AAP-NSM , and went G565 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APN borders G3181 N-APN of Tyre G5184 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ Sidon G4605 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ entered G1525 V-2AAP-NSM into G1519 PREP a house G3614 N-ASF , and would G2309 V-IAI-3S have no man G3762 A-ASM know G1097 V-2AAN it , but G2532 CONJ he could G1410 V-AOI-3S not G3756 PRT-N be hid G2990 V-2AAN .
25 For G1063 CONJ a certain woman G1135 N-NSF , whose G3739 R-GSF young daughter G2365 N-NSN had G2192 V-IAI-3S an unclean G169 A-ASN spirit G4151 N-ASN , heard G191 V-AAP-NSF of G4012 PREP him G846 P-GSM , and came G2064 V-2AAP-NSF and fell G4363 V-2AAI-3S at G4314 PREP his G3588 T-APM feet G4228 N-APM :
26 The G3588 T-NSF woman G1135 N-NSF was G2258 V-IXI-3S a Greek G1674 N-NSF , a Syrophenician G4949 N-NSF by nation G1085 N-DSN ; and G2532 CONJ she besought G2065 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-ASM that G2443 CONJ he would cast forth G1544 V-2AAS-3S the G3588 T-ASN devil G1140 N-ASN out of G1537 PREP her G3588 T-GSF daughter G2364 N-GSF .
27 But G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Let G863 V-2AAM-2S the G3588 T-APN children G5043 N-APN first G4412 ADV be filled G5526 V-APN : for G1063 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N meet G2570 A-NSN to take G2983 V-2AAN the G3588 T-GPN children G5043 N-GPN \'s bread G740 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ to cast G906 V-2AAN it unto the G3588 T-DPN dogs G2952 N-DPN .
28 And G1161 CONJ she G3588 T-NSF answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Yes G3483 PRT , Lord G2962 N-VSM : yet G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN dogs G2952 N-NPN under G5270 ADV the G3588 T-GSF table G5132 N-GSF eat G2068 V-PAI-3S of G575 PREP the G3588 T-GPN children G3813 N-GPN \'s crumbs G5589 N-GPN .
29 And G2532 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , For G1223 PREP this G3588 T-ASM saying G3056 N-ASM go thy way G5217 V-PAM-2S ; the G3588 T-NSN devil G1140 N-NSN is gone G1831 V-RAI-3S out of G1537 PREP thy G3588 T-GSF daughter G2364 N-GSF .
30 And G2532 CONJ when she was come G565 V-2AAP-NSF to G1519 PREP her G3588 T-ASM house G3624 N-ASM , she found G2147 V-2AAI-3S the G3588 T-NSN devil G1140 N-NSN gone out G1831 V-RAP-ASN , and G2532 CONJ her daughter G2364 N-ASF laid G906 V-RPP-ASF upon G1909 PREP the G3588 T-GSF bed G2825 N-GSF .
31 And G2532 CONJ again G3825 ADV , departing G1831 V-2AAP-NSM from G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GPN coasts G3725 N-GPN of Tyre G5184 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ Sidon G4605 N-GSF , he came G2064 V-2AAI-3S unto G4314 PREP the G3588 T-ASF sea G2281 N-ASF of Galilee G1056 N-GSF , through G303 PREP the midst G3319 A-ASN of G3588 T-GPN the G3588 T-GPN coasts G3725 N-GPN of Decapolis G1179 N-GSF .
32 And G2532 CONJ they bring G5342 V-PAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM one that was deaf G2974 A-ASM , and had an impediment in his speech G3424 A-ASM ; and G2532 CONJ they beseech G3870 V-PAI-3P him G846 P-ASM to G2443 CONJ put his hand upon G2007 V-2AAS-3S him G846 P-DSM .
33 And G2532 CONJ he took G618 V-2AMP-NSM him G846 P-ASM aside G2596 PREP from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSM multitude G3793 N-GSM , and put G906 V-2AAI-3S his G3588 T-APM fingers G1147 N-APM into G1519 PREP his G3588 T-APN ears G3775 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ he spit G4429 V-AAP-NSM , and touched G680 V-ADI-3S his G3588 T-GSF tongue G1100 N-GSF ;
34 And G2532 CONJ looking up G308 V-AAP-NSM to G1519 PREP heaven G3772 N-ASM , he sighed G4727 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Ephphatha G2188 ARAM , that is G3603 , Be opened G1272 V-APM-2S .
35 And G2532 CONJ straightway G2112 ADV his G3588 T-NPF ears G189 N-NPF were opened G1272 V-API-3P , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM string G1199 N-NSM of G3588 T-GSF his G3588 T-GSF tongue G1100 N-GSF was loosed G3089 V-API-3S , and G2532 CONJ he spake G2980 V-IAI-3S plain G3723 ADV .
36 And G2532 CONJ he charged G1291 V-AMI-3S them G846 P-DPM that G2443 CONJ they should tell G2036 V-2AAS-3P no man G3367 A-DSM : but G1161 CONJ the more G3745 K-ASN he G846 P-NSM charged G1291 V-IMI-3S them G846 P-DPM , so much the more G3123 ADV a great deal G4054 A-ASN-C they published G2784 V-IAI-3P it ;
37 And G2532 CONJ were beyond measure G5249 ADV astonished G1605 V-IPI-3P , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , He hath done G4160 V-RAI-3S all things G3956 A-APN well G2573 ADV : he maketh G4160 V-PAI-3S both G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-APM deaf G2974 A-APM to hear G191 V-PAN , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-APM dumb G216 A-APM to speak G2980 V-PAN .
