2 അവന്‍ വെളിന്‍ പ്രദേശത്തു ഒരു കിണറ് കണ്ടു. അതിന്നരികെ മൂന്നു ആട്ടിന്‍ കൂട്ടം കിടക്കുന്നു. ആ കിണറ്റില്‍നിന്നു ആയിരുന്നു ആട്ടിന്‍ കൂട്ടങ്ങള്‍ക്കു വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കുന്നതു; എന്നാല്‍ കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കലുള്ള കല്ലു വലുതായിരുന്നു.

3 ആ സ്ഥലത്തു കൂട്ടങ്ങള്‍ ഒക്കെ കൂടുകയും അവര്‍ കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല്‍നിന്നു കല്ലു ഉരുട്ടി ആടുകള്‍ക്കു വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കയും കല്ലു കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായക്ക്ല്‍ അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു തന്നേ തിരികെ വെക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

4 യാക്കോബ് അവരോടുസഹോദരന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ എവിടുത്തുകാര്‍ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞങ്ങള്‍ ഹാരാന്യര്‍ എന്നു അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

5 അവന്‍ അവരോടുനിങ്ങള്‍ നാഹോരിന്റെ മകനായ ലാബാനെ അറിയുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഅറിയും എന്നു അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

6 അവന്‍ അവരോടുഅവന്‍ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. സുഖം തന്നേ; അവന്റെ മകള്‍ റാഹേല്‍ അതാ ആടുകളോടു കൂടെ വരുന്നു എന്നു അവര്‍ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

7 പകല്‍ ഇനിയും വളരെയുണ്ടല്ലോ; കൂട്ടം ഒന്നിച്ചു കൂടുന്ന നേരമായിട്ടില്ല; ആടുകള്‍ക്കു വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോയി തീറ്റുവിന്‍ എന്നു അവന്‍ പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു

8 അവര്‍കൂട്ടങ്ങള്‍ ഒക്കെയും കൂടുവോളം ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്കു വഹിയാ; അവര്‍ കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല്‍നിന്നു കല്ലു ഉരുട്ടും; പിന്നെ ഞങ്ങള്‍ ആടുകള്‍ക്കു വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9 അവന്‍ അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നേ റാഹേല്‍ തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളോടുകൂടെ വന്നു. അവളായിരുന്നു അവയെ മേയിച്ചുവന്നതു.

10 തന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരനായ ലാബാന്റെ മകള്‍ റാഹേലിനെയും അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരനായ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളെയും കണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ യാക്കോബ് അടുത്തു ചെന്നു കണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല്‍നിന്നു കല്ലു ഉരുട്ടി, അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരനായ ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകള്‍ക്കു വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തു.

11 യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനെ ചുംബിച്ചു പൊട്ടിക്കരഞ്ഞു.

12 താന്‍ അവളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ സഹോദരന്‍ എന്നും റിബെക്കയുടെ മകനെന്നും യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അവള്‍ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു തന്റെ അപ്പനെ അറിയിച്ചു.

13 ലാബാന്‍ തന്റെ സഹോദരിയുടെ മകനായ യാക്കോബിന്റെ വസ്തുത കേട്ടപ്പോള്‍ അവനെ എതിരേല്പാന്‍ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു അവനെ ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്തു ചുംബിച്ചു വീട്ടില്‍ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവന്‍ ലാബാനോടു വിവരം ഒക്കെയും പറഞ്ഞു.

14 ലാബാന്‍ അവനോടുനീ എന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന്‍ ഒരു മാസകാലം അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ പാര്‍ത്തു.

15 പിന്നെ ലാബാന്‍ യാക്കോബിനോടുനീ എന്റെ സഹോദരനാകകൊണ്ടു വെറുതെ എന്നെ സേവിക്കേണമോ? നിനക്കു എന്തു പ്രതിഫലം വേണം? എന്നോടു പറക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16 എന്നാല്‍ ലാബാന്നു രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാര്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുമൂത്തവള്‍ക്കു ലേയാ എന്നും ഇളയവള്‍ക്കു റാഹേല്‍ എന്നും പേര്‍.

17 ലേയയുടെ കണ്ണു ശോഭ കുറഞ്ഞതായിരുന്നു; റാഹേലോ സുന്ദരിയും മനോഹരരൂപിണിയും ആയിരുന്നു.

18 യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു; നിന്റെ ഇളയമകള്‍ റാഹേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഞാന്‍ ഏഴു സംവത്സരം നിന്നെ സേവിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19 അതിന്നു ലാബാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ അവളെ അന്യപുരുഷന്നുകൊടുക്കുന്നതിലും നിനക്കു തരുന്നതു നല്ലതു; എന്നോടുകൂടെ പാര്‍ക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20 അങ്ങനെ യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഏഴു സംവത്സരം സേവ ചെയ്തു; അവന്‍ അവളെ സ്നേഹിക്കകൊണ്ടു അതു അവന്നു അല്പകാലം പോലെ തോന്നി.

21 അനന്തരം യാക്കോബ് ലാബാനോടുഎന്റെ സമയം തികഞ്ഞിരിക്കയാല്‍ ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെല്ലുവാന്‍ അവളെ തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22 അപ്പോള്‍ ലാബാന്‍ ആ സ്ഥലത്തെ ജനങ്ങളെ എല്ലാം ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി ഒരു വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു.

23 എന്നാല്‍ രാത്രിയില്‍ അവന്‍ തന്റെ മകള്‍ ലേയയെ കൂട്ടി അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ കൊണ്ടു പോയി ആക്കി; അവന്‍ അവളുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെന്നു.

24 ലാബാന്‍ തന്റെ മകള്‍ ലേയെക്കു തന്റെ ദാസി സില്പയെ ദാസിയായി കൊടുത്തു.

25 നേരം വെളുത്തപ്പോള്‍ അതു ലേയാ എന്നു കണ്ടു അവന്‍ ലാബാനോടുനീ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതു എന്തു? റാഹേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി അല്ലയോ ഞാന്‍ നിന്നെ സേവിച്ചതു? നീ എന്തിന്നു എന്നെ ചതിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26 അതിന്നു ലാബാന്‍ മൂത്തവള്‍ക്കു മുമ്പെ ഇളയവളെ കൊടുക്ക ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദിക്കില്‍ നടപ്പില്ല.

27 ഇവളുടെ ആഴ്ചവട്ടം നിവര്‍ത്തിക്ക; എന്നാല്‍ നീ ഇനിയും ഏഴു സംവത്സരം എന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെയ്യുന്ന സേവേക്കു വേണ്ടി ഞങ്ങള്‍ അവളെയും നിനക്കു തരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28 യാക്കോബ് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു, അവളുടെ ആഴ്ചവട്ടം നിവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു; അവന്‍ തന്റെ മകള്‍ റാഹേലിനെയും അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

29 തന്റെ മകള്‍ റാഹേലിന്നു ലാബാന്‍ തന്റെ ദാസി ബില്‍ഹയെ ദാസിയായി കൊടുത്തു.

30 അവന്‍ റാഹേലിന്റെ അടുക്കലും ചെന്നു; റാഹേലിനെ ലേയയെക്കാള്‍ അധികം സ്നേഹിച്ചു; പിന്നെയും ഏഴു സംവത്സരം അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ സേവചെയ്തു.

31 ലേയാ അനിഷ്ടയെന്നു യഹോവ കണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ അവളുടെ ഗര്‍ഭത്തെ തുറന്നു; റാഹേലോ മച്ചിയായിരുന്നു.

32 ലേയാ ഗര്‍ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുയഹോവ എന്റെ സങ്കടം കണ്ടു; ഇപ്പോള്‍ എന്റെ ഭര്‍ത്താവു എന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവള്‍ അവന്നു രൂബേന്‍ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

33 അവള്‍ പിന്നെയും ഗര്‍ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുഞാന്‍ അനിഷ ്ടഎന്നു യഹോവ കേട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു ഇവനെയും എനിക്കു തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശിമെയോന്‍ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

34 അവള്‍ പിന്നെയും ഗര്‍ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുഇപ്പോള്‍ ഈ സമയം എന്റെ ഭര്‍ത്താവു എന്നോടു പറ്റിച്ചേരും; ഞാന്‍ അവന്നു മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവള്‍ അവന്നു ലേവി എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

35 അവള്‍ പിന്നെയും ഗര്‍ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഞാന്‍ യഹോവയെ സ്തുതിക്കും എന്നു അവള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവള്‍ അവന്നു യെഹൂദാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. പിന്നെ അവള്‍ക്കു പ്രസവം നിന്നു.

24 And Laban ^H3837 gave ^H5414 unto his daughter ^H1323 Leah ^H3812 ^H853 Zilpah ^H2153 his maid ^H8198 for a handmaid. ^H8198

25 And it came to pass, ^H1961 that in the morning, ^H1242 behold, ^H2009 it ^H1931 was Leah: ^H3812 and he said ^H559 to ^H413 Laban, ^H3837 What ^H4100 is this ^H2063 thou hast done ^H6213 unto me? did not ^H3808 I serve ^H5647 with ^H5973 thee for Rachel ^H7354 ? wherefore ^H4100 then hast thou beguiled ^H7411 me?

26 And Laban ^H3837 said, ^H559 It must not ^H3808 be so ^H3651 done ^H6213 in our country, ^H4725 to give ^H5414 the younger ^H6810 before ^H6440 the firstborn. ^H1067

27 Fulfill ^H4390 her ^H2063 week, ^H7620 and we will give ^H5414 thee ^H853 this ^H2063 also ^H1571 for the service ^H5656 which ^H834 thou shalt serve ^H5647 with ^H5973 me yet ^H5750 seven ^H7651 other ^H312 years. ^H8141

29 And Laban ^H3837 gave ^H5414 to Rachel ^H7354 his daughter ^H1323 ^H853 Bilhah ^H1090 his handmaid ^H8198 to be her maid. ^H8198

30 And he went in ^H935 also ^H1571 unto ^H413 Rachel, ^H7354 and he loved ^H157 also ^H1571 ^H853 Rachel ^H7354 more than Leah ^H4480 ^H3812 , and served ^H5647 with ^H5973 him yet ^H5750 seven ^H7651 other ^H312 years. ^H8141

31 And when the LORD ^H3068 saw ^H7200 that ^H3588 Leah ^H3812 was hated, ^H8130 he opened ^H6605 ^H853 her womb: ^H7358 but Rachel ^H7354 was barren. ^H6135

32 And Leah ^H3812 conceived, ^H2029 and bore ^H3205 a son, ^H1121 and she called ^H7121 his name ^H8034 Reuben: ^H7205 for ^H3588 she said, ^H559 Surely ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 hath looked ^H7200 upon my affliction; ^H6040 now ^H6258 therefore ^H3588 my husband ^H376 will love ^H157 me.

33 And she conceived ^H2029 again, ^H5750 and bore ^H3205 a son; ^H1121 and said, ^H559 Because ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 hath heard ^H8085 that ^H3588 I ^H595 was hated, ^H8130 he hath therefore given ^H5414 me ^H853 this ^H2088 son also: ^H1571 and she called ^H7121 his name ^H8034 Simeon. ^H8095

34 And she conceived ^H2029 again, ^H5750 and bore ^H3205 a son; ^H1121 and said, ^H559 Now ^H6258 this time ^H6471 will my husband ^H376 be joined ^H3867 unto ^H413 me, because ^H3588 I have born ^H3205 him three ^H7969 sons: ^H1121 therefore ^H5921 ^H3651 was his name ^H8034 called ^H7121 Levi. ^H3878

35 And she conceived ^H2029 again, ^H5750 and bore ^H3205 a son: ^H1121 and she said, ^H559 Now ^H6471 will I praise ^H3034 ^H853 the LORD: ^H3068 therefore ^H5921 ^H3651 she called ^H7121 his name ^H8034 Judah; ^H3063 and left ^H5975 bearing ^H4480 ^H3205 .
