2 മിസ്രയീമില്‍ ധാന്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നു ഞാന്‍ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; നാം മരിക്കാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവിടെ ചെന്നു അവിടെ നിന്നു നമുക്കു ധാന്യം കൊള്ളുവിന്‍ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3 യോസേഫിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര്‍ പത്തുപേര്‍ മിസ്രയീമില്‍ ധാന്യം കൊള്ളുവാന്‍ പോയി.

4 എന്നാല്‍ യോസേഫിന്റെ അനുജനായ ബേന്യാമീന്നു പക്ഷേ വല്ല ആപത്തും ഭവിക്കും എന്നുവെച്ചു യാക്കോബ് അവനെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുകൂടെ അയച്ചില്ല.

5 അങ്ങനെ ധാന്യം കൊള്ളുവാന്‍ വന്നവരുടെ ഇടയില്‍ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും വന്നു; കനാന്‍ ദേശത്തും ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവല്ലോ.

6 യോസേഫ് ദേശത്തിന്നു അധിപതിയായിരുന്നു; അവന്‍ തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു ദേശത്തിലെ സകല ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ധാന്യം വിറ്റതു; യോസേഫിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും വന്നു അവനെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

7 യോസഫ് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ കണ്ടാറെ അവരെ അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കിലും അറിയാത്ത ഭാവം നടിച്ചു അവരോടു കഠിനമായി സംസാരിച്ചുനിങ്ങള്‍ എവിടെ നിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുആഹാരം കൊള്ളുവാന്‍ കനാന്‍ ദെശത്തു നിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

8 യേസേഫ് സഹോദരന്മാരെ അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കിലും അവര്‍ അവനെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

9 യോസേഫ് അവരെക്കുറിച്ചു കണ്ടിരുന്ന സ്വപ്നങ്ങള്‍ ഔര്‍ത്തു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള്‍ ഒറ്റുകാരാകുന്നു; ദേശത്തിന്റെ ദുര്‍ബ്ബലഭാഗം നോക്കുവാന്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10 അവര്‍ അവനോടുഅല്ല, യജമാനനേ, അടിയങ്ങള്‍ ആഹാരം കൊള്ളുവാന്‍ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു;

11 ഞങ്ങള്‍ എല്ലാവരും ഒരാളുടെ മക്കള്‍; ഞങ്ങള്‍ പരമാര്‍ത്ഥികളാകുന്നു; അടിയങ്ങള്‍ ഒറ്റുകാരല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12 അവന്‍ അവരോടുഅല്ല, നിങ്ങള്‍ ദേശത്തിന്റെ ദുര്‍ബ്ബലഭാഗം നോക്കുവാന്‍ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13 അതിന്നു അവര്‍അടിയങ്ങള്‍ കനാന്‍ ദേശത്തുള്ള ഒരാളുടെ മക്കള്‍; പന്ത്രണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാര്‍ ആകുന്നു; ഇളയവന്‍ ഇന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ഉണ്ടു; ഒരുത്തന്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14 യോസേഫ് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ നിങ്ങള്‍ ഒറ്റുകാര്‍ തന്നേ.

15 ഇതിനാല്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളെ പരീക്ഷിക്കും; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരന്‍ ഇവിടെ വന്നല്ലാതെ, ഫറവോനാണ, നിങ്ങള്‍ ഇവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുകയില്ല.

16 നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരനെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന്‍ നിങ്ങളില്‍ ഒരുത്തനെ അയപ്പിന്‍ ; നിങ്ങളോ ബദ്ധന്മാരായിരിക്കേണം; നിങ്ങള്‍ നേരുള്ളവരോ എന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു പരീക്ഷിച്ചറിയാമല്ലോ; അല്ലെന്നുവരികില്‍; ഫറവോനാണ, നിങ്ങള്‍ ഒറ്റുകാര്‍ തന്നേ.

17 അങ്ങനെ അവന്‍ അവരെ മൂന്നു ദിവസം തടവില്‍ ആക്കി.

18 മൂന്നാം ദിവസം യോസേഫ് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന്‍ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു; നിങ്ങള്‍ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇതു ചെയ്‍വിന്‍

19 നിങ്ങള്‍ പരമാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ എങ്കില്‍ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു സഹോദരന്‍ കരാഗൃഹത്തില്‍ കിടക്കട്ടെ; നിങ്ങള്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ടു, നിങ്ങളുടെ വീടുകളിലെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടിന്നു ധാന്യം കൊണ്ടുപോകുവിന്‍ .

20 എന്നാല്‍ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരേണം; അതിനാല്‍ നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു നേരെന്നു തെളിയും; നിങ്ങള്‍ മരിക്കേണ്ടിവരികയില്ല; അവര്‍ അങ്ങനെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.

21 ഇതു നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരനോടു നാം ചെയ്ത ദ്രോഹമാകുന്നു; അവന്‍ നമ്മോടു കെഞ്ചിയപ്പോള്‍ നാം അവന്റെ പ്രാണസങ്കടം കണ്ടാറെയും അവന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടില്ലല്ലോ; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഈ സങ്കടം നമുക്കു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവര്‍ തമ്മില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

22 അതിന്നു രൂബേന്‍ ബാലനോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്യരുതെന്നും ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ? എന്നിട്ടും നിങ്ങള്‍ കേട്ടില്ല; ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇതാ, അവന്റെ രക്തം നമ്മോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

23 യോസേഫ് അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചതു ദ്വിഭാഷിമുഖാന്തരം ആയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്‍ ഇതു ഗ്രഹിച്ചു എന്നു അവര്‍ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

24 അവന്‍ അവരെ വിട്ടു മാറിപ്പോയി കരഞ്ഞു; പിന്നെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നു അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ നിന്നു ശിമെയോനെ പിടിച്ചു അവര്‍ കാണ്‍കെ ബന്ധിച്ചു.

25 അവരുടെ ചാക്കില്‍ ധാന്യം നിറെപ്പാനും അവരുടെ ദ്രവ്യം അവനവന്റെ ചാക്കില്‍ തിരികെ വെപ്പാനും വഴിക്കു വേണ്ടിയ ആഹാരം അവര്‍ക്കും കൊടുപ്പാനും യോസേഫ് കല്പിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ അവര്‍ക്കും ചെയ്തുകൊടുത്തു.

26 അവര്‍ ധാന്യം കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറ്റി അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

27 വഴിയമ്പലത്തില്‍വെച്ചു അവരില്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ കഴുതെക്കു തീന്‍ കൊടുപ്പാന്‍ ചാകൂ അഴിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ തന്റെ ദ്രവ്യം ചാക്കിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു,

28 തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുഎന്റെ ദ്രവ്യം എനിക്കു തിരികെ കിട്ടി അതു ഇതാ, എന്റെ ചാക്കില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള്‍ അവരുടെ ഉള്ളം തളര്‍ന്നു, അവര്‍ വിറെച്ചുദൈവം നമ്മോടു ഈ ചെയ്തതു എന്തെന്നു തമ്മില്‍ തമ്മില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

29 അവര്‍ കനാന്‍ ദേശത്തു തങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പനായ യാക്കോബിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ എത്തിയാറെ, തങ്ങള്‍ക്കു സംഭവിച്ചതു ഒക്കെയും അവനോടു അറിയിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതു

30 ദേശത്തിലെ അധിപതിയായവന്‍ ഞങ്ങള്‍ ദേശത്തെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കുന്നവര്‍ എന്നു വിചാരിച്ചു ഞങ്ങളോടു കഠിനമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.

31 ഞങ്ങള്‍ അവനോടുഞങ്ങള്‍ പരാമാര്‍ത്ഥികളാകുന്നു, ഞങ്ങള്‍ ഒറ്റുകാരല്ല.

32 ഞങ്ങള്‍ ഒരു അപ്പന്റെ മക്കള്‍; പന്ത്രണ്ടു സഹോരന്മാരാകുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇല്ല; ഇളയവന്‍ കനാന്‍ ദേശത്തു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33 അതിന്നു ദേശത്തിലെ അധിപതിയായവന്‍ ഞങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനിങ്ങള്‍ പരമാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ എന്നു ഞാന്‍ ഇതിനാല്‍ അറിയുംനിങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു സഹോദരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വിട്ടേച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ വീടുകളിലെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടിന്നു ധാന്യം വാങ്ങി കൊണ്ടുപോകുവിന്‍ .

34 നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന്‍ ; അതിനാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ ഒറ്റുകാരല്ല, പരമാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ തന്നേ എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിയും; നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരനെ നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഏല്പിച്ചുതരും; നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ദേശത്തു വ്യാപാരവും ചെയ്യാം.

35 പിന്നെ അവര്‍ ചാകൂ ഒഴിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ഇതാ, ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ ചാക്കില്‍ അവനവന്റെ പണക്കെട്ടു ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവരും അവരുടെ അപ്പനും പണക്കെട്ടു കണ്ടാറെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.

36 അവരുടെ അപ്പനായ യാക്കോബ് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള്‍ എന്നെ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവനാക്കുന്നു; യോസേഫ് ഇല്ല, ശിമെയോന്‍ ഇല്ല; ബെന്യാമീനെയും നിങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ടുപോകും; സകലവും എനിക്കു പ്രതിക്കുലം തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

37 അതിന്നു രൂബേന്‍ അപ്പനോടുഎന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ അവനെ ഏല്പിക്ക; ഞാന്‍ അവനെ നിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ മടക്കി കൊണ്ടുവരും; ഞാന്‍ അവനെ നിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരാത്തപക്ഷം എന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരെ കൊന്നുകളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

38 എന്നാല്‍ അവന്‍ എന്റെ മകന്‍ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരികയില്ല; അവന്റെ ജ്യോഷ്ഠന്‍ മരിച്ചുപോയി, അവന്‍ ഒരുത്തനേ ശേഷിപ്പുള്ളു; നിങ്ങള്‍ പോകുന്ന വഴിയില്‍ അവന്നു വല്ല ആപത്തും വന്നാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ എന്റെ നരയെ ദുഃഖത്തോടെ പാതാളത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങുമാറാക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33 And the man, ^H376 the lord ^H113 of the country, ^H776 said ^H559 unto ^H413 us, Hereby ^H2063 shall I know ^H3045 that ^H3588 ye ^H859 are true ^H3651 men ; leave ^H5117 one ^H259 of your brethren ^H251 here with ^H854 me , and take ^H3947 food for the famine ^H7459 of your households, ^H1004 and be gone: ^H1980

34 And bring ^H935 ^H853 your youngest ^H6996 brother ^H251 unto ^H413 me : then shall I know ^H3045 that ^H3588 ye ^H859 are no ^H3808 spies, ^H7270 but ^H3588 that ye ^H859 are true ^H3651 men: so will I deliver ^H5414 you ^H853 your brother, ^H251 and ye shall traffic ^H5503 in the land. ^H776
