1 മറിയയുടെയും അവളുടെ സഹോദരി മാര്‍ത്തയുടെയും ഗ്രാമമായ ബേഥാന്യയിലെ ലാസര്‍ എന്ന ഒരുത്തന്‍ ദീനമായ്ക്കിടന്നു.

2 ഈ മറിയ ആയിരുന്നു കര്‍ത്താവിനെ പരിമള തൈലം പൂശി തന്റെ തലമുടികൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ കാല്‍ തുടച്ചതു. അവളുടെ സഹോദരനായ ലാസര്‍ ആയിരുന്നു ദീനമായ്ക്കിടന്നതു.

3 ആ സഹോദരിമാര്‍ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ആളയച്ചുകര്‍ത്താവേ, നിനക്കു പ്രിയനായവന്‍ ദീനമായ്ക്കിടക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

4 യേശു അതു കേട്ടിട്ടുഈ ദീനം മരണത്തിന്നായിട്ടല്ല, ദൈവപുത്രന്‍ മഹത്വപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മഹത്വത്തിന്നായിട്ടത്രേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5 യേശു മാര്‍ത്തയെയും അവളുടെ സഹോദരിയെയും ലാസരിനെയും സ്നേഹിച്ചു. എന്നിട്ടും അവന്‍ ദീനമായ്ക്കിടക്കുന്നു എന്നു കേട്ടാറെ താന്‍ അന്നു ഇരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു രണ്ടു ദിവസം പാര്‍ത്തു.

6 അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അവന്‍ ശിഷ്യന്മാരോടുനാം വീണ്ടും യെഹൂദ്യയിലേക്കു പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7 ശിഷ്യന്മാര്‍ അവനോടുറബ്ബീ, യെഹൂദന്മാര്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍തന്നേ നിന്നെ കല്ലെറിവാന്‍ ഭാവിച്ചുവല്ലോ; നീ പിന്നെയും അവിടെ പോകുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

8 അതിന്നു യേശുപകലിന്നു പന്ത്രണ്ടു മണിനേരം ഇല്ലയോ? പകല്‍ സമയത്തു നടക്കുന്നവന്‍ ഈ ലോകത്തിന്റെ വെളിച്ചം കാണുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ഇടറുന്നില്ല.

9 രാത്രിയില്‍ നടക്കുന്നവനോ അവന്നു വെളിച്ചം ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു ഇടറുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10 ഇതു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന്‍ നമ്മുടെ സ്നേഹിതനായ ലാസര്‍ നിദ്രകൊള്ളുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ഞാന്‍ അവനെ ഉണര്‍ത്തുവാന്‍ പോകുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

11 ശിഷ്യന്മാര്‍ അവനോടുകര്‍ത്താവേ, അവന്‍ നിദ്രകൊള്ളുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ അവന്നു സൌഖ്യം വരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12 യേശുവോ അവന്റെ മരണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ആയിരുന്നു പറഞ്ഞതു; ഉറക്കം എന്ന നിദ്രയെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു അവര്‍ക്കും തോന്നിപ്പോയി.

13 അപ്പോള്‍ യേശു സ്പഷ്ടമായി അവരോടുലാസര്‍ മരിച്ചുപോയി;

14 ഞാന്‍ അവിടെ ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ വിചാരിച്ചു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങള്‍ വിശ്വസിപ്പാന്‍ ഇടയാകുമല്ലോ; എന്നാല്‍ നാം അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15 ദിദിമൊസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള തോമസ് സഹശിഷ്യന്മാരോടുഅവനോടു കൂടെ മരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നാമും പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16 യേശു അവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ അവനെ കല്ലറയില്‍ വെച്ചിട്ടു നാലുദിവസമായി എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞു.

17 ബേഥാന്യ യെരൂശലേമിന്നരികെ ഏകദേശം രണ്ടു നാഴിക ദൂരത്തായിരുന്നു.

18 മാര്‍ത്തയെയും മറിയയെയും സഹോദരനെക്കുറിച്ചു ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു പല യെഹൂദന്മാരും അവരുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നിരുന്നു.

19 യേശു വരുന്നു എന്നു കേട്ടിട്ടു മാര്‍ത്ത അവനെ എതിരേല്പാന്‍ ചെന്നു; മറിയയോ വീട്ടില്‍ ഇരുന്നു.

20 മാര്‍ത്ത യേശുവിനോടുകര്‍ത്താവേ, നീ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ എന്റെ സഹോദരന്‍ മരിക്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു.

21 ഇപ്പോഴും നീ ദൈവത്തോടു എന്തു അപേക്ഷിച്ചാലും ദൈവം നിനക്കു തരും എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22 യേശു അവളോടുനിന്റെ സഹോദരന്‍ ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേലക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23 മാര്‍ത്ത അവനോടുഒടുക്കത്തെ നാളിലെ പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തില്‍ അവന്‍ ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേലക്കും എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24 യേശു അവളോടുഞാന്‍ തന്നേ പുനരുത്ഥാനവും ജീവനും ആകുന്നു; എന്നില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവന്‍ മരിച്ചാലും ജീവിക്കും.

25 ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവന്‍ ആരും ഒരു നാളും മരിക്കയില്ല; ഇതു നീ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26 അവള്‍ അവനോടുഉവ്വു, കര്‍ത്താവേ, ലോകത്തില്‍ വരുവാനുള്ള ദൈവപുത്രനായ ക്രിസ്തു നീ തന്നേ എന്നു ഞാന്‍ വിശ്വസിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു

27 പോയി തന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ മറിയയെ സ്വകാര്യമായി വിളിച്ചുഗുരു വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടു നിന്നെ വിളിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28 അവള്‍ കേട്ട ഉടനെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നു.

29 യേശു അതുവരെ ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ കടക്കാതെ മാര്‍ത്ത അവനെ എതിരേറ്റ സ്ഥലത്തു തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു.

30 വീട്ടില്‍ അവളോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാര്‍, മറിയ വേഗം എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോകുന്നതു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവള്‍ കല്ലറെക്കല്‍ കരവാന്‍ പോകുന്നു എന്നു വിചാരിച്ചു പിന്‍ ചെന്നു.

31 യേശു ഇരിക്കുന്നേടത്തു മറിയ എത്തി അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന്റെ കാല്‍ക്കല്‍ വീണുകര്‍ത്താവേ, നീ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ എന്റെ സഹോദരന്‍ മരിക്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32 അവള്‍ കരയുന്നതും അവളോടുകൂടെ വന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാര്‍ കരയുന്നതും യേശു കണ്ടിട്ടു ഉള്ളം നൊന്തു കലങ്ങി

33 അവനെ വെച്ചതു എവിടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. കര്‍ത്താവേ, വന്നു കാണ്‍ക എന്നു അവര്‍ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

34 യേശു കണ്ണുനീര്‍ വാര്‍ത്തു.

35 ആകയാല്‍ യെഹൂദന്മാര്‍കണ്ടോ അവനോടു എത്ര പ്രിയം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

36 ചിലരോകുരുടന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറന്ന ഇവന്നു ഇവനെയും മരിക്കാതാക്കുവാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

37 യേശു പിന്നെയും ഉള്ളംനൊന്തു കല്ലറെക്കല്‍ എത്തി; അതു ഒരു ഗുഹ ആയിരുന്നു; ഒരു കല്ലും അതിന്മേല്‍ വെച്ചിരുന്നു.

38 കല്ലു നീക്കുവിന്‍ എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചവന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ മാര്‍ത്തകര്‍ത്താവേ, നാറ്റം വെച്ചുതുടങ്ങി; നാലുദിവസമായല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

39 യേശു അവളോടുവിശ്വസിച്ചാല്‍ നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മഹത്വം കാണും എന്നു ഞാന്‍ നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

40 അവര്‍ കല്ലു നീക്കി. യേശു മേലോട്ടു നോക്കിപിതാവേ, നീ എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടതിനാല്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിന്നെ വാഴ്ത്തുന്നു.

41 നീ എപ്പോഴും എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേള്‍ക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും നീ എന്നെ അയച്ചു എന്നു ചുറ്റും നിലക്കുന്ന പുരുഷാരം വിശ്വസിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരുടെ നിമിത്തം ഞാന്‍ പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

42 ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന്‍ ലാസരേ, പുറത്തുവരിക എന്നു ഉറക്കെ വിളിച്ചു.

43 മരിച്ചവന്‍ പുറത്തുവന്നു; അവന്റെ കാലും കയ്യും ശീലകൊണ്ടു കെട്ടിയും മുഖം റൂമാല്‍കൊണ്ടു മൂടിയുമിരുന്നു. അവന്റെ കെട്ടു അഴിപ്പിന്‍ ; അവന്‍ പോകട്ടെ എന്നു യേശു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

44 മറിയയുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാരില്‍ പലരും അവന്‍ ചെയ്തതു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവനില്‍ വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

45 എന്നാല്‍ ചിലര്‍ പരീശന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ പോയി യേശു ചെയ്തതു അവരോടു അറിയിച്ചു.

46 മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും പരീശന്മാരും സംഘം കൂടിനാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു? ഈ മനുഷ്യന്‍ വളരെ അടയാളങ്ങള്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നുവല്ലോ.

47 അവനെ ഇങ്ങനെ വിട്ടേച്ചാല്‍ എല്ലാവരും അവനില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കും; റോമക്കാരും വന്നു നമ്മുടെ സ്ഥലത്തെയും ജനത്തെയും എടുത്തുകളയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

48 അവരില്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ , ആ സംവത്സരത്തെ മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ കയ്യഫാവു തന്നേ, അവരോടുനിങ്ങള്‍ ഒന്നും അറിയുന്നില്ല;

49 ജനം മുഴുവനും നശിച്ചുപോകാതവണ്ണം ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍ ജാതിക്കു വേണ്ടി മരിക്കുന്നതു നന്നു എന്നു ഔര്‍ക്കുംന്നതുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

50 അവന്‍ ഇതു സ്വയമായി പറഞ്ഞതല്ല, താന്‍ ആ സംവത്സരത്തെ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്‍ ആകയാല്‍ ജനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി യേശു മരിപ്പാന്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പ്രവചിച്ചതത്രേ.

51 ജനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി മാത്രമല്ല ചിതറിയിരിക്കുന്ന ദൈവമക്കളെ ഒന്നായിട്ടു ചേര്‍ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും തന്നേ.

52 അന്നു മുതല്‍ അവര്‍ അവനെ കൊല്ലുവാന്‍ ആലോചിച്ചു.

53 അതുകൊണ്ടു യേശു യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില്‍ പിന്നെ പരസ്യമായി നടക്കാതെ അവിടം വിട്ടു മരുഭൂമിക്കരികെ എഫ്രയീം എന്ന പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു വാങ്ങി ശിഷ്യന്മാരുമായി അവിടെ പാര്‍ത്തു.

54 യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ പെസഹ അടുത്തിരിക്കയാല്‍ പലരും തങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ശുദ്ധിവരുത്തുവാന്‍ പെസഹെക്കു മുമ്പെ നാട്ടില്‍ നിന്നു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു പോയി.

55 അവര്‍ യേശുവിനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു ദൈവാലയത്തില്‍ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടുഎന്തു തോന്നുന്നു? അവന്‍ പെരുനാള്‍ക്കു വരികയില്ലയോ എന്നു തമ്മില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

56 എന്നാല്‍ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും പരീശന്മാരും അവനെ പിടിക്കേണം എന്നു വെച്ചു അവന്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്ന ഇടം ആരെങ്കിലും അറിഞ്ഞാല്‍ അറിവു തരേണമെന്നു കല്പന കൊടുത്തിരുന്നു.
