1 എന്നാല്‍ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ ശപഥാര്‍പ്പിതവസ്തു സംബന്ധിച്ചു ഒരു അകൃത്യംചെയ്തു; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തില്‍ സേരഹിന്റെ മകനായ സബ്ദിയുടെ മകനായ കര്‍മ്മിയുടെ മകന്‍ ആഖാന്‍ ശപഥാര്‍പ്പിതവസ്തുവില്‍ ചിലതു എടുത്തു; യഹോവയുടെ കോപം യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കളുടെ നേരെ ജ്വലിച്ചു.

2 യോശുവ യെരീഹോവില്‍നിന്നു ബേഥേലിന്നു കിഴക്കു ബേഥാവെന്റെ സമീപത്തുള്ള ഹായിയിലേക്കു ആളുകളെ അയച്ചു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള്‍ ചെന്നു ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവിന്‍ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര്‍ ചെന്നു ഹായിയെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കി,

3 യോശുവയുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ മടങ്ങിവന്നു അവനോടുജനം എല്ലാം പോകേണമെന്നില്ല; ഹായിയെ ജയിച്ചടക്കുവാന്‍ രണ്ടായിരമോ മൂവായിരമോ പോയാല്‍ മതി; സര്‍വ്വജനത്തെയും അവിടേക്കു അയച്ചു കഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടാ; അവര്‍ ആള്‍ ചുരുക്കമത്രേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4 അങ്ങനെ ജനത്തില്‍ ഏകദേശം മൂവായിരം പേര്‍ അവിടേക്കു പോയി; എന്നാല്‍ അവര്‍ ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാരുടെ മുമ്പില്‍നിന്നു തോറ്റു ഔടി.

5 ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാര്‍ അവരില്‍ മുപ്പത്താറോളം പേരെ കൊന്നു, അവരെ പട്ടണവാതില്‍ക്കല്‍ തുടങ്ങി ശെബാരീംവരെ പിന്‍ തുടര്‍ന്നു മലഞ്ചരിവില്‍വെച്ചു അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ടു ജനത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉരുകി വെള്ളംപോലെ ആയ്തീര്‍ന്നു.

6 യോശുവ വസ്ത്രം കീറി യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ അവനും യിസ്രായേല്‍മൂപ്പന്മാരും തലയില്‍ മണ്ണുവാരിയിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു സന്ധ്യവരെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു കിടന്നു

7 അയ്യോ കര്‍ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, ഞങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിപ്പാന്‍ അമോര്‍യ്യരുടെ കയ്യില്‍ ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഈ ജനത്തെ യോര്‍ദ്ദാന്നിക്കരെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു എന്തു? ഞങ്ങള്‍ യോര്‍ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ പാര്‍ത്തിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ മതിയായിരുന്നു.

8 യഹോവേ, യിസ്രായേല്‍ ശത്രുക്കള്‍ക്കു പുറം കാട്ടിയശേഷം ഞാന്‍ എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു!

9 കനാന്യരും ദേശനിവാസികള്‍ ഒക്കെയും കേട്ടിട്ടു ഞങ്ങളെ ചുറ്റിവളഞ്ഞു ഭൂമിയില്‍നിന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ പേര്‍ മായിച്ചു കളയുമല്ലോ; എന്നാല്‍ നീ നിന്റെ മഹത്തായ നാമത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി എന്തുചെയ്യും എന്നു യോശുവ പറഞ്ഞു.

10 യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുഎഴുന്നേല്‍ക്ക; നീ ഇങ്ങനെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണുകിടക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

11 യിസ്രായേല്‍ പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന്‍ അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ നിയമം അവര്‍ ലംഘിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര്‍ മോഷ്ടിച്ചു മറവുചെയ്തു തങ്ങളുടെ സാമാനങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ അതു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

12 യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ ശാപഗ്രസ്തരായി തീര്‍ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ നില്പാന്‍ കഴിയാതെ ശത്രുക്കള്‍ക്കു പുറം കാട്ടേണ്ടിവന്നു. ശാപം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്‍നിന്നു നീക്കാതിരുന്നാല്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കയില്ല.

13 നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ജനത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു അവരോടു പറകനാളത്തേക്കു നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിപ്പിന്‍ ; യിസ്രായേലേ, നിന്റെ നടുവില്‍ ഒരു ശാപം ഉണ്ടു; ശാപം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്‍നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയുംവരെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ നില്പാന്‍ നിനക്കു കഴികയില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ കല്പിക്കുന്നു.

14 നിങ്ങള്‍ രാവിലെ ഗോത്രം ഗോത്രമായി അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന ഗോത്രം കുലംകുലമായി അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന കുലം കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായിട്ടു അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന കുടുംബം ആളാംപ്രതി അടുത്തുവരേണം.

15 ശപഥാര്‍പ്പിതവസ്തുവോടുകൂടെ പിടിപെടുന്നവനെയും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തെയും തീയില്‍ ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളയേണം; അവന്‍ യഹോവയുടെ നിയമം ലംഘിച്ചു യിസ്രായേലില്‍ വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16 അങ്ങനെ യോശുവ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഗോത്രംഗോത്രമായി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

17 അവന്‍ യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തെ കുലംകുലമായി വരുത്തി; സര്‍ഹ്യകുലം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; അവന്‍ സര്‍ഹ്യകുലത്തെ കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായി വരുത്തി; സബ്ദി പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

18 അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ ആളാംപ്രതി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തില്‍ സേരഹിന്റെ മകനായ സബ്ദിയുടെ മകനായ കര്‍മ്മിയുടെ മകന്‍ ആഖാന്‍ പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

19 യോശുവ ആഖാനോടുമകനേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു മഹത്വം കൊടുത്തു അവനോടു ഏറ്റുപറക; നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു പറക; എന്നോടു മറെച്ചുവെക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20 ആഖാന്‍ യോശുവയോടുഞാന്‍ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പിഴെച്ചു ഇന്നിന്നതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു സത്യം.

21 ഞാന്‍ കൊള്ളയുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ വിശേഷമായോരു ബാബിലോന്യ മേലങ്കിയും ഇരുനൂറു ശേക്കെല്‍ വെള്ളിയും അമ്പതു ശേക്കെല്‍ തൂക്കമുള്ള ഒരു പൊന്‍ കട്ടിയും കണ്ടു മോഹിച്ചു എടുത്തു; അവ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിന്റെ നടുവില്‍ നിലത്തു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെള്ളി അടിയില്‍ ആകന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

22 യോശുവ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവര്‍ കൂടാരത്തില്‍ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു; കൂടാരത്തില്‍ അതും അടിയില്‍ വെള്ളിയും കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

23 അവര്‍ അവയെ കൂടാരത്തില്‍നിന്നു എടുത്തു യോശുവയുടെയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്‍ മക്കളുടെയും അടുക്കല്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ വെച്ചു.

24 അപ്പോള്‍ യോശുവയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലുംകൂടെ സേരെഹിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ആഖാനെ വെള്ളി, മേലങ്കി, പൊന്‍ കട്ടി, അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്‍, പുത്രിമാര്‍, അവന്റെ കാള, കഴുത, ആടു, കൂടാരം ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്നുള്ള സകലവുമായി ആഖോര്‍താഴ്വരയില്‍ കൊണ്ടുപോയി

25 നീ ഞങ്ങളെ വലെച്ചതു എന്തിന്നു? യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്നെ വലെക്കും എന്നു യോശുവ പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു, അവരെ തീയില്‍ ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും കല്ലെറികയും ചെയ്തു.

26 അവന്റെ മേല്‍ അവര്‍ ഒരു വലിയ കലക്കുന്നു കൂട്ടി; അതു ഇന്നുവരെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപം മാറി; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ആഖോര്‍താഴ്വര എന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ പേര്‍ പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

2 And Joshua ^H3091 sent ^H7971 men ^H376 from Jericho ^H4480 ^H3405 to Ai, ^H5857 which ^H834 is beside ^H5973 Beth- ^H1007 aven , on the east side ^H4480 ^H6924 of Bethel, ^H1008 and spoke ^H559 unto ^H413 them, saying, ^H559 Go up ^H5927 and view ^H7270 ^H853 the country. ^H776 And the men ^H376 went up ^H5927 and viewed ^H7270 ^H853 Ai. ^H5857

9 For the Canaanites ^H3669 and all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776 shall hear ^H8085 of it , and shall environ us round ^H5437 ^H5921 , and cut off ^H3772 ^H853 our name ^H8034 from ^H4480 the earth: ^H776 and what ^H4100 wilt thou do ^H6213 unto thy great ^H1419 name ^H8034 ?

10 And the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 unto ^H413 Joshua, ^H3091 Get thee up; ^H6965 wherefore ^H4100 liest ^H5307 thou ^H859 thus ^H2088 upon ^H5921 thy face ^H6440 ?

11 Israel ^H3478 hath sinned, ^H2398 and they have also ^H1571 transgressed ^H5674 ^H853 my covenant ^H1285 which ^H834 I commanded ^H6680 them : for they have even ^H1571 taken ^H3947 of ^H4480 the accursed thing, ^H2764 and have also ^H1571 stolen, ^H1589 and dissembled ^H3584 also, ^H1571 and they have put ^H7760 it even ^H1571 among their own stuff. ^H3627

12 Therefore the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 could ^H3201 not ^H3808 stand ^H6965 before ^H6440 their enemies, ^H341 but turned ^H6437 their backs ^H6203 before ^H6440 their enemies, ^H341 because ^H3588 they were ^H1961 accursed: ^H2764 neither ^H3808 will I be ^H1961 with ^H5973 you any more, ^H3254 except ^H518 ^H3808 ye destroy ^H8045 the accursed ^H2764 from among ^H4480 ^H7130 you.

14 In the morning ^H1242 therefore ye shall be brought ^H7126 according to your tribes: ^H7626 and it shall be, ^H1961 that the tribe ^H7626 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 taketh ^H3920 shall come ^H7126 according to the families ^H4940 thereof ; and the family ^H4940 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 shall take ^H3920 shall come ^H7126 by households; ^H1004 and the household ^H1004 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 shall take ^H3920 shall come ^H7126 man by man. ^H1397

20 And Achan ^H5912 answered ^H6030 ^H853 Joshua, ^H3091 and said, ^H559 Indeed ^H546 I ^H595 have sinned ^H2398 against the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 of Israel, ^H3478 and thus ^H2063 and thus ^H2063 have I done: ^H6213

23 And they took ^H3947 them out of the midst ^H4480 ^H8432 of the tent, ^H168 and brought ^H935 them unto ^H413 Joshua, ^H3091 and unto ^H413 all ^H3605 the children ^H1121 of Israel, ^H3478 and laid them out ^H3332 before ^H6440 the LORD. ^H3068

24 And Joshua, ^H3091 and all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 with ^H5973 him, took ^H3947 ^H853 Achan ^H5912 the son ^H1121 of Zerah, ^H2226 and the silver, ^H3701 and the garment, ^H155 and the wedge ^H3956 of gold, ^H2091 and his sons, ^H1121 and his daughters, ^H1323 and his oxen, ^H7794 and his asses, ^H2543 and his sheep, ^H6629 and his tent, ^H168 and all ^H3605 that ^H834 he had : and they brought ^H5927 them unto the valley ^H6010 of Achor. ^H5911

25 And Joshua ^H3091 said, ^H559 Why ^H4100 hast thou troubled ^H5916 us? the LORD ^H3068 shall trouble ^H5916 thee this ^H2088 day. ^H3117 And all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 stoned ^H5619 him with stones, ^H68 and burned ^H8313 them with fire, ^H784 after they had stoned ^H7275 them with stones. ^H68

26 And they raised ^H6965 over ^H5921 him a great ^H1419 heap ^H1530 of stones ^H68 unto ^H5704 this ^H2088 day. ^H3117 So the LORD ^H3068 turned ^H7725 from the fierceness ^H4480 ^H2740 of his anger. ^H639 Wherefore ^H5921 ^H3651 the name ^H8034 of that ^H1931 place ^H4725 was called, ^H7121 The valley ^H6010 of Achor, ^H5911 unto ^H5704 this ^H2088 day. ^H3117
