1 അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ ഒക്കെയും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ദാന്‍ മുതല്‍ ബേര്‍--ശേബവരെയും ഗിലെയാദ്ദേശത്തും ഉള്ള സഭയൊക്കെയും ഏകമനസ്സോടെ മിസ്പയില്‍ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ വന്നുകൂടി.

2 യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ സകലഗോത്രങ്ങളുമായ സര്‍വ്വജനത്തിന്റെയും പ്രധാനികളും ആയുധപാണികളായ നാലുലക്ഷം കാലാളും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ജനസംഘത്തില്‍ വന്നുനിന്നു--

3 യിസ്രായേല്‍ മക്കള്‍ മിസ്പയിലേക്കു പോയി എന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ കേട്ടു--അപ്പോള്‍ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ഈ ദോഷം എങ്ങിനെ സംഭവിച്ചു എന്നു പറവിന്‍ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു

4 കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭര്‍ത്താവായ ലേവ്യന്‍ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഞാനും എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും ബെന്യാമീന്‍ ദേശത്തു ഗിബെയയില്‍ രാപാര്‍പ്പാന്‍ ചെന്നു.

5 എന്നാറെ ഗിബെയാനിവാസികള്‍ എന്റെ നേരെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു രാത്രിയില്‍ എന്റെ നിമിത്തം വീടുവളഞ്ഞു എന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാന്‍ ഭാവിച്ചു; എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ അവര്‍ ബലാല്‍ക്കാരം ചെയ്തതിനാല്‍ അവള്‍ മരിച്ചുപോയി.

6 അവര്‍ യിസ്രായേലില്‍ ദുഷ്കര്‍മ്മവും വഷളത്വവും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ ഖണ്ഡംഖണ്ഡമാക്കി യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തൊക്കെയും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

7 നിങ്ങള്‍ എല്ലാവരും യിസ്രായേല്യരല്ലോ; ഇതില്‍ നിങ്ങളുടെ അഭിപ്രായവും ആലോചനയും പറവിന്‍ .

8 അപ്പോള്‍ സര്‍വ്വജനവും ഒന്നായിട്ടു എഴുന്നേറ്റു പറഞ്ഞതുനമ്മില്‍ ആരും തന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലേക്കു പോകരുതു; ആരും വീട്ടിലേക്കു തിരികയുമരുതു.

9 നാം ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഗിബെയയോടു ചെയ്യേണ്ടുന്ന കാര്യമാവിതുനാം അതു സംബന്ധിച്ചു ചീട്ടിടേണം;

10 അവര്‍ യിസ്രായേലില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച സകലവഷളത്വത്തിന്നും പകരം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു ജനം ഗിബെയയിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുമ്പോള്‍ അവര്‍ക്കും വേണ്ടി ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള്‍ പോയി കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന്‍ യിസ്രായേല്‍ഗോത്രങ്ങളില്‍ നൂറ്റില്‍ പത്തുപേരെയും ആയിരത്തില്‍ നൂറുപേരെയും പതിനായിരത്തില്‍ ആയിരംപേരെയും എടുക്കേണം.

11 അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ ഒക്കെയും ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി ഏകമനസ്സോടെ യോജിച്ചു.

12 പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്‍ഗോത്രങ്ങള്‍ ബെന്യാമീന്‍ ഗോത്രത്തിലെങ്ങും ആളയച്ചുനിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു ദോഷം നടന്നതു എന്തു?

13 ഗിബെയയിലെ ആ നീചന്മാരെ ഞങ്ങള്‍ കൊന്നു യിസ്രായേലില്‍നിന്നു ദോഷം നീക്കിക്കളയേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ ഏല്പിച്ചു തരുവിന്‍ എന്നു പറയിച്ചു. ബെന്യാമീന്യരോ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കളായ തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടനുസരിപ്പാന്‍ മനസ്സില്ലാതെ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കളോടു

14 യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പുറപ്പെടത്തക്കവണ്ണം തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില്‍നിന്നു ഗിബെയയില്‍ വന്നുകൂടി.

15 അന്നു ഗിബെയാനിവാസികളില്‍ എണ്ണിത്തിരിച്ച എഴുനൂറു വിരുതന്മാരെ കൂടാതെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നു വന്ന ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ ഇരുപത്താറയിരം ആയുധപാണികള്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്നു എണ്ണം കണ്ടു.

16 ഈ ജനത്തിലെല്ലാം ഇടത്തു കയ്യന്മാരായ എഴുനൂറു വിരുതന്മാര്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര്‍ എല്ലാവരും ഒരു രോമത്തിന്നു പോലും ഏറുപിഴെക്കാത്ത കവിണക്കാര്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.

17 ബെന്യാമീന്‍ ഒഴികെയുള്ള യിസ്രായേല്യരോ നാലുലക്ഷം ആയുധപാണികള്‍ ആയിരുന്നു; അവര്‍ എല്ലാവരും യോദ്ധാക്കള്‍ തന്നേ.

18 അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു ചെന്നുബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു പടവെട്ടുവാന്‍ ഞങ്ങളില്‍ ആര്‍ മുമ്പനായി ചെല്ലേണ്ടു എന്നു ദൈവത്തോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചു. യെഹൂദാ മുമ്പനായി ചെല്ലട്ടെ എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

19 അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഗിബെയെക്കു നേരെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി.

20 യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഗിബെയയില്‍ അവരുടെ നേരെ അണിനിരന്നു.

21 ബെന്യാമീന്യരോ ഗിബെയയില്‍നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു യിസ്രായേല്യരില്‍ ഇരുപത്തീരായിരംപേരെ അന്നു സംഹരിച്ചു വീഴിച്ചു.

22 യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ ചെന്നു സന്ധ്യവരെ കരഞ്ഞുഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു ഞങ്ങള്‍ ഇനിയും യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോകേണമോ എന്നു യഹോവയോടുചോദിച്ചു. അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുവിന്‍ എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

23 അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്യരായ പടജ്ജനം ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു ഒന്നാം ദിവസം അണിനിരന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുതന്നേ പിന്നെയും പടെക്കു അണിനിരന്നു.

24 യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ രണ്ടാം ദിവസവും ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു അടുത്തു.

25 ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ രണ്ടാം ദിവസവും ഗിബെയയില്‍നിന്നു അവരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു യിസ്രായേല്‍ മക്കളില്‍ പിന്നെയും പതിനെണ്ണായിരംപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു വീഴിച്ചു; അവര്‍ എല്ലാവരും യോദ്ധാക്കള്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.

26 അപ്പോള്‍ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ ഒക്കെയും സര്‍വ്വജനവും കയറി ബേഥേലിലേക്കു ചെന്നു; അവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു അന്നു സന്ധ്യവരെ ഉപവസിച്ചുപാര്‍ത്തു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്‍പ്പിച്ചു.

27 പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു; അക്കാലത്തു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നിയമപെട്ടകം അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

28 അഹരോന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിന്റെ മകന്‍ ഫീനെഹാസ് ആയിരുന്നു അക്കാലത്തു തിരുസന്നിധിയില്‍ നിന്നിരുന്നതു. ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു ഞങ്ങള്‍ ഇനിയും പടയെടുക്കേണമോ? ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകളയേണമേ എന്നു അവര്‍ ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുചെല്ലുവിന്‍ ; നാളെ ഞാന്‍ അവരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

29 അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ ഗിബെയെക്കു ചുറ്റും പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെ ആക്കി.

30 യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ മൂന്നാം ദിവസവും ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ ഗിബെയയുടെ നേരെ പടെക്കു അണിനിരന്നു.

31 ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ പടജ്ജനത്തിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു പട്ടണം വിട്ടു പുറത്തായി; ബേഥേലിലേക്കും വയലില്‍ക്കൂടി ഗിബെയയിലേക്കും പോകുന്ന രണ്ടു പെരുവഴികളില്‍വെച്ചു മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ പടജ്ജനത്തില്‍ ചിലരെ വെട്ടിത്തുടങ്ങി; യിസ്രായേലില്‍ ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതുപേരെ കൊന്നു.

32 അവര്‍ മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ നമ്മുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ തോറ്റോടുന്നു എന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കളോനാം ഔടി അവരെ പട്ടണത്തില്‍നിന്നു പെരുവഴികളിലേക്കു ആകര്‍ഷിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

33 യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ ഒക്കെയും തങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബാല്‍--താമാരില്‍ പടെക്കു അണിനിരന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരം ഗിബെയയുടെ പുല്പുറത്തു തങ്ങള്‍ ഇരുന്നേടത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

34 എല്ലായിസ്രായേലില്‍നിന്നും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്ന പതിനായിരംപേര്‍ ഗിബെയയുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; പട കഠിനമായി മുറുകി; എങ്കിലും ആപത്തു അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവര്‍ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

35 യഹോവ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ തോലക്കുമാറാക്കി; അന്നു യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ ബെന്യമീന്യരില്‍ ഇരുപത്തയ്യായിരത്തൊരുനൂറുപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു; അവര്‍ എല്ലാവരും ആയുധപാണികള്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.

36 ഇങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ തോറ്റു എന്നു കണ്ടു; എന്നാല്‍ യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ ഗിബെയെക്കരികെ ആക്കിയിരുന്ന പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെ വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ക്കും സ്ഥലം കൊടുത്തു.

37 ഉടനെ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാര്‍ ഗിബെയയില്‍ പാഞ്ഞുകയറി; പതിയിരിപ്പുകാര്‍ നീളെ നടന്നു പട്ടണത്തെയൊക്കെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല്‍ സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

38 പട്ടണത്തില്‍നിന്നു അടയാളമായിട്ടു ഒരു വലിയ പുക പൊങ്ങുമാറാക്കേണമെന്നു യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരുമായി പറഞ്ഞൊത്തിരുന്നു.

39 യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ പടയില്‍ പിന്‍ വാങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ യിസ്രായേല്യരെ വെട്ടിത്തുടങ്ങി ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതുപേരെ കൊന്നു; മുന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ പടയിലെപ്പോലെ അവര്‍ നമ്മുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ തോറ്റോടുന്നു എന്നു അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

40 എന്നാല്‍ പട്ടണത്തില്‍നിന്നു അടയാളം ഒരു വലിയ പുകത്തൂണായി പൊങ്ങിത്തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ പിന്നോട്ടു നോക്കി; പട്ടണം മുഴുവനും ആകാശത്തോളം കത്തിപ്പൊങ്ങുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

41 യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ബെന്യാമീന്യര്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ആപത്തു ഭവിച്ചു എന്നു കണ്ടു.

42 അവര്‍ യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില്‍നിന്നു മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞു; പട അവരെ പിന്തുടര്‍ന്നു; പട്ടണങ്ങളില്‍നിന്നുള്ളവരെ അവര്‍ അതതിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേവെച്ചു സംഹരിച്ചു.

43 അവര്‍ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെ വളഞ്ഞു ഔടിച്ചു ഗിബെയെക്കെതിരെ കിഴക്കു അവരുടെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലത്തുവെച്ചു പിടിക്കുടി.

44 അങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരില്‍ പതിനെണ്ണായിരംപേര്‍ പട്ടുപോയി; അവര്‍ എല്ലാവരും പരാക്രമശാലികള്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.

45 അപ്പോള്‍ അവര്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞു മരുഭൂമിയില്‍ രിമ്മോന്‍ പാറെക്കു ഔടി; അവരില്‍ അയ്യായിരംപേരെ പെരുവഴികളില്‍വെച്ചു ഒറ്റയൊറ്റയായി പിടിച്ചു കൊന്നു; മറ്റവരെ ഗിദോമോളം പിന്തുടര്‍ന്നു അവരിലും രണ്ടായിരം പേരെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

46 അങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരില്‍ ആകെ ഇരുപത്തയ്യായിരം ആയുധപാണികള്‍ അന്നു പട്ടുപോയി; അവര്‍ എല്ലാവരും പരാക്രമശാലികള്‍ തന്നേ.

47 എന്നാല്‍ അറുനൂറുപേര്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞു മരുഭൂമിയില്‍ രിമ്മോന്‍ പാറവരെ ഔടി, അവിടെ നാലു മാസം പാര്‍ത്തു.

48 യിസ്രായേല്യര്‍ പിന്നെയും ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെ നേരെ തിരിഞ്ഞു ഔരോ പട്ടണം മുഴുവനെയും മൃഗങ്ങളെയും കണ്ട സകലത്തെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല്‍ സംഹരിച്ചു; അവര്‍ കണ്ട എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളും തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

But the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 would ^H14 not ^H3808 hearken ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of their brethren ^H251 the children ^H1121 of Israel: ^H3478

14 But the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 gathered themselves together ^H622 out of ^H4480 the cities ^H5892 unto Gibeah, ^H1390 to go out ^H3318 to battle ^H4421 against ^H5973 the children ^H1121 of Israel. ^H3478

15 And the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 were numbered ^H6485 at that ^H1931 time ^H3117 out of the cities ^H4480 ^H5892 twenty ^H6242 and six ^H8337 thousand ^H505 men ^H376 that drew ^H8025 sword, ^H2719 beside ^H905 the inhabitants ^H4480 ^H3427 of Gibeah, ^H1390 which were numbered ^H6485 seven ^H7651 hundred ^H3967 chosen ^H970 men. ^H376

18 And the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 arose, ^H6965 and went up ^H5927 to the house of God, ^H1008 and asked counsel ^H7592 of God, ^H430 and said, ^H559 Which ^H4310 of us shall go up ^H5927 first ^H8462 to the battle ^H4421 against ^H5973 the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 ? And the LORD ^H3068 said, ^H559 Judah ^H3063 shall go up first. ^H8462

19 And the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 rose up ^H6965 in the morning, ^H1242 and encamped ^H2583 against ^H5921 Gibeah. ^H1390

20 And the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 went out ^H3318 to battle ^H4421 against ^H5973 Benjamin; ^H1144 and the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 put themselves in array ^H6186 to fight ^H4421 against ^H854 them at ^H413 Gibeah. ^H1390

21 And the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 came forth ^H3318 out of ^H4480 Gibeah, ^H1390 and destroyed down ^H7843 to the ground ^H776 of the Israelites ^H3478 that ^H1931 day ^H3117 twenty ^H6242 and two ^H8147 thousand ^H505 men. ^H376

22 And the people ^H5971 the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 encouraged themselves, ^H2388 and set ^H6186 their battle ^H4421 again ^H3254 in array ^H6186 in the place ^H4725 where ^H834 ^H8033 they put themselves in array ^H6186 the first ^H7223 day. ^H3117

23 (And the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 went up ^H5927 and wept ^H1058 before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068 until ^H5704 even, ^H6153 and asked counsel ^H7592 of the LORD, ^H3068 saying, ^H559 Shall I go up ^H5066 again ^H3254 to battle ^H4421 against ^H5973 the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 my brother ^H251 ? 24 And the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 came near ^H7126 against ^H413 the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 the second ^H8145 day. ^H3117

25 And Benjamin ^H1144 went forth ^H3318 against ^H7125 them out of ^H4480 Gibeah ^H1390 the second ^H8145 day, ^H3117 and destroyed ^H7843 down to the ground ^H776 of the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 again ^H5750 eighteen ^H8083 ^H6240 thousand ^H505 men; ^H376 all ^H3605 these ^H428 drew ^H8025 the sword. ^H2719

30 And the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 went up ^H5927 against ^H413 the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 on the third ^H7992 day, ^H3117 and put themselves in array ^H6186 against ^H413 Gibeah, ^H1390 as at other times ^H6471 ^H6471 .

31 And the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 went out ^H3318 against ^H7125 the people, ^H5971 and were drawn away ^H5423 from ^H4480 the city; ^H5892 and they began ^H2490 to smite ^H5221 of the people ^H4480 ^H5971 , and kill, ^H2491 as at other times ^H6471 ^H6471 , in the highways, ^H4546 of which ^H834 one ^H259 goeth up ^H5927 to the house of God, ^H1008 and the other ^H259 to Gibeah ^H1390 in the field, ^H7704 about thirty ^H7970 men ^H376 of Israel. ^H3478

32 And the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 said, ^H559 They ^H1992 are smitten down ^H5062 before ^H6440 us , as at the first. ^H7223 But the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 said, ^H559 Let us flee, ^H5127 and draw ^H5423 them from ^H4480 the city ^H5892 unto ^H413 the highways. ^H4546

33 And all ^H3605 the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 rose up ^H6965 out of their place ^H4480 ^H4725 , and put themselves in array ^H6186 at Baal- ^H1193 tamar : and the liers in wait ^H693 of Israel ^H3478 came forth ^H1518 out of their places ^H4480 ^H4725 , even out of the meadows ^H4480 ^H4629 of Gibeah ^H4480 ^H1390 .

34 And there came ^H935 against ^H4480 ^H5048 Gibeah ^H1390 ten ^H6235 thousand ^H505 chosen ^H977 men ^H376 out of all ^H4480 ^H3605 Israel, ^H3478 and the battle ^H4421 was sore: ^H3513 but they ^H1992 knew ^H3045 not ^H3808 that ^H3588 evil ^H7451 was near ^H5060 them.

35 And the LORD ^H3068 smote ^H5062 ^H853 Benjamin ^H1144 before ^H6440 Israel: ^H3478 and the children ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 destroyed ^H7843 of the Benjamites ^H1144 that ^H1931 day ^H3117 twenty ^H6242 and five ^H2568 thousand ^H505 and a hundred ^H3967 men: ^H376 all ^H3605 these ^H428 drew ^H8025 the sword. ^H2719

36 So the children ^H1121 of Benjamin ^H1144 saw ^H7200 that ^H3588 they were smitten: ^H5062 for the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 gave ^H5414 place ^H4725 to the Benjamites, ^H1144 because ^H3588 they trusted ^H982 unto ^H413 the liers in wait ^H693 which ^H834 they had set ^H7760 beside ^H413 Gibeah. ^H1390

37 And the liers in wait ^H693 hasted, ^H2363 and rushed ^H6584 upon ^H413 Gibeah; ^H1390 and the liers in wait ^H693 drew themselves along, ^H4900 and smote ^H5221 ^H853 all ^H3605 the city ^H5892 with the edge ^H6310 of the sword. ^H2719

38 Now there was ^H1961 an appointed sign ^H4150 between the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 and the liers in wait, ^H693 that they should make a great ^H7235 flame ^H4864 with smoke ^H6227 rise up ^H5927 out of ^H4480 the city. ^H5892

39 And when the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 retired ^H2015 in the battle, ^H4421 Benjamin ^H1144 began ^H2490 to smite ^H5221 and kill ^H2491 of the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 about thirty ^H7970 persons: ^H376 for ^H3588 they said, ^H559 Surely ^H389 they ^H1931 are smitten down ^H5062 ^H5062 before ^H6440 us , as in the first ^H7223 battle. ^H4421

40 But when the flame ^H4864 began ^H2490 to arise up ^H5927 out of ^H4480 the city ^H5892 with a pillar ^H5982 of smoke, ^H6227 the Benjamites ^H1144 looked ^H6437 behind ^H310 them, and, behold, ^H2009 the flame ^H3632 of the city ^H5892 ascended up ^H5927 to heaven. ^H8064

41 And when the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 turned again, ^H2015 the men ^H376 of Benjamin ^H1144 were amazed: ^H926 for ^H3588 they saw ^H7200 that ^H3588 evil ^H7451 was come ^H5060 upon ^H5921 them.

42 Therefore they turned ^H6437 their backs before ^H6440 the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 unto ^H413 the way ^H1870 of the wilderness; ^H4057 but the battle ^H4421 overtook ^H1692 them ; and them which ^H834 came out of the cities ^H4480 ^H5892 they destroyed ^H7843 in the midst ^H8432 of them.

43 Thus they enclosed the Benjamites round about ^H3803 ^H853 ^H1144 , and chased ^H7291 them, and trod them down ^H1869 with ease ^H4496 over against ^H5704 ^H5227 Gibeah ^H1390 toward the sunrising ^H4480 H4217. ^H8121

44 And there fell ^H5307 of Benjamin ^H4480 ^H1144 eighteen ^H8083 ^H6240 thousand ^H505 men; ^H376 ^H853 all ^H3605 these ^H428 were men ^H376 of valor. ^H2428

45 And they turned ^H6437 and fled ^H5127 toward the wilderness ^H4057 unto ^H413 the rock ^H5553 of Rimmon: ^H7417 and they gleaned ^H5953 of them in the highways ^H4546 five ^H2568 thousand ^H505 men; ^H376 and pursued hard ^H1692 after ^H310 them unto ^H5704 Gidom, ^H1440 and slew ^H5221 two thousand ^H505 men ^H376 of ^H4480 them.

46 So that all ^H3605 which fell ^H5307 that ^H1931 day ^H3117 of Benjamin ^H4480 ^H1144 were ^H1961 twenty ^H6242 and five ^H2568 thousand ^H505 men ^H376 that drew ^H8025 the sword; ^H2719 ^H853 all ^H3605 these ^H428 were men ^H376 of valor. ^H2428

47 But six ^H8337 hundred ^H3967 men ^H376 turned ^H6437 and fled ^H5127 to the wilderness ^H4057 unto ^H413 the rock ^H5553 Rimmon, ^H7417 and abode ^H3427 in the rock ^H5553 Rimmon ^H7417 four ^H702 months. ^H2320

48 And the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 turned again ^H7725 upon ^H413 the children ^H1121 of Benjamin, ^H1144 and smote ^H5221 them with the edge ^H6310 of the sword, ^H2719 as well the men ^H4974 of every city ^H4480 ^H5892 , as ^H5704 the beast, ^H929 and all ^H3605 that came to hand: ^H4672 also ^H1571 they set ^H7971 on fire ^H784 all ^H3605 the cities ^H5892 that they came to. ^H4672
