1 യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കള്‍ യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു യെരീഹോവിന്റെ സമീപത്തു യോര്‍ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ മോവാബ് സമഭൂമിയില്‍ പാളയമിറങ്ങി.

2 യിസ്രായേല്‍ അമോര്‍യ്യരോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക്‍ അറിഞ്ഞു.

3 ജനം വളരെയായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു മോവാബ് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു; യിസ്രായേല്‍മക്കളെക്കുറിച്ചു മോവാബ് പരിഭ്രമിച്ചു.

4 മോവാബ് മിദ്യാന്യമൂപ്പന്മാരോടുകാള വയലിലെ പുല്ലു നക്കിക്കളയുന്നതു പോലെ ഈ കൂട്ടം നമ്മുടെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള എല്ലാവരെയും നക്കിക്കളയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അക്കാലത്തു മോവാബ്രാജാവു സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.

5 അവന്‍ ബെയോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബിലെയാമിനെ വിളിപ്പാന്‍ അവന്റെ സ്വജാതിക്കാരുടെ ദേശത്തു നദീതീരത്തുള്ള പെഥോരിലേക്കു ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഒരു ജനം മിസ്രയീമില്‍നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഭൂതലത്തെ മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര്‍ എനിക്കെതിരെ പാര്‍ക്കുംന്നു.

6 നീ വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഈ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കേണമേ; അവര്‍ എന്നെക്കാള്‍ ഏറ്റവും ബലവാന്മാര്‍ ആയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പക്ഷേ അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു ദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഔടിച്ചുകളവാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴിവുണ്ടാകുമായിരിക്കും; നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന്‍ , നീ ശപിക്കുന്നവന്‍ ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന്‍ എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

7 മോവാബ്യ മൂപ്പന്മാരും മിദ്യാന്യമൂപ്പന്മാരും കൂടി കയ്യില്‍ പ്രശ്നദക്ഷിണയുമായി ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെന്നു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ വാക്കുകളെ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

8 അവന്‍ അവരോടുഇന്നു രാത്രി ഇവിടെ പാര്‍പ്പിന്‍ ; യഹോവ എന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നതു പോലെ ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളോടു ഉത്തരം പറയാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്‍ ബിലെയാമിനോടു കൂടെ പാര്‍ത്തു.

9 ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍വന്നുനിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഈ മനുഷ്യര്‍ ആരെന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

10 ബിലെയാം ദൈവത്തോടുഒരു ജനം മിസ്രയീമില്‍നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഭൂതലത്തെ മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി അവരെ ശപിക്കേണം.

11 പക്ഷേ അവരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു അവരെ ഔടിച്ചുകളവാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴിയും എന്നിങ്ങനെ മോവാബ്രാജാവായി സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക്‍ എന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12 ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിനോടുനീ അവരോടുകൂടെ പോകരുതു; ആ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കയും അരുതു; അവര്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ ആകുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

13 ബിലെയാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുവിന്‍ ; നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരുവാന്‍ യഹോവ എനിക്കു അനുവാദം തരുന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14 മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെന്നു; ബിലെയാമിന്നു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരുവാന്‍ മനസ്സില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15 ബാലാക്‍ വീണ്ടും അവരെക്കാള്‍ മാന്യരായ അധികം പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ അയച്ചു.

16 അവര്‍ ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നു അവനോടുഎന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വരുന്നതിന്നു മുടക്കം ഒന്നും പറയരുതേ.

17 ഞാന്‍ നിന്നെ ഏറ്റവും ബഹുമാനിക്കും; നീ എന്നോടു പറയുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞാന്‍ ചെയ്യാം; വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഈ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കേണമേ എന്നു സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക്‍ പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18 ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുബാലാക്‍ തന്റെ ഗൃഹം നിറെച്ചു വെള്ളിയും പൊന്നും എനിക്കു തന്നാലും എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന ലംഘിച്ചു ഏറെയോ കുറെയോ ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴിയുന്നതല്ല.

19 ആകയാല്‍ യഹോവ ഇനിയും എന്നോടു എന്തു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യും എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിയട്ടെ; നിങ്ങളും ഈ രാത്രി ഇവിടെ പാര്‍പ്പിന്‍ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

20 രാത്രിയില്‍ ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നുഇവര്‍ നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പാന്‍ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവരോടുകൂടെ പോക; എന്നാല്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന കാര്യം മാത്രമേ ചെയ്യാവു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21 ബിലെയാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു കഴുതെക്കു കോപ്പിട്ടു മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോയി.

22 അവന്‍ പോകുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു; യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ വഴിയില്‍ അവന്നു പ്രതിയോഗിയായി നിന്നു; അവനോ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറി യാത്ര ചെയ്കയായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ രണ്ടു ബാല്യക്കാരും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

23 യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ വാള്‍ ഊരിപ്പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു വഴിയില്‍ നിലക്കുന്നതു കഴുത കണ്ടു; കഴുത വഴിയില്‍ നിന്നു മാറി വയലിലേക്കു പോയി; കഴുതയെ വഴിയിലേക്കു തിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബിലെയാം അതിനെ അടിച്ചു.

24 പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ ഇരുപുറവും മതിലുള്ള മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ഇടുക്കുവഴിയില്‍ നിന്നു.

25 കഴുത യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ മതിലരികെ ഒതുങ്ങി ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കാല്‍ മതിലോടു ചേര്‍ത്തു ഞെക്കി; അവന്‍ അതിനെ വീണ്ടും അടിച്ചു.

26 പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ മുമ്പോട്ടു ചെന്നു ഇടത്തോട്ടും വലത്തോട്ടും മാറുവാന്‍ വഴിയില്ലാത്ത ഒരു ഇടുക്കിടയില്‍ നിന്നു.

27 യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ കഴുത ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കീഴെകിടന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു അവന്‍ കഴുതയെ വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചു.

28 അപ്പോള്‍ യഹോവ കഴുതയുടെ വായ് തുറന്നു; അതു ബിലെയാമിനോടുനീ എന്നെ ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം അടിപ്പാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിന്നോടു എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

29 ബിലെയാം കഴുതയോടുനീ എന്നെ കളിയാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടത്രേ. എന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ ഒരു വാള്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ തന്നേ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

30 കഴുത ബിലെയാമിനോടുഞാന്‍ നിന്റെ കഴുതയല്ലയോ? ഇക്കാലമൊക്കെയും എന്റെ പുറത്തല്ലയോ നീ കയറിനടന്നതു? ഞാന്‍ എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു കാണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. ഇല്ല എന്നു അവന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

31 അപ്പോള്‍ യഹോവ ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറന്നു, യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ വാളൂരിപ്പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു നിലക്കുന്നതു അവന്‍ കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ അവനോടു

32 ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം നീ കഴുതയെ അടിച്ചതു എന്തു? ഇതാ, ഞാന്‍ നിനക്കു പ്രതിയോഗിയായി പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നുനിന്റെ വഴി നാശകരം എന്നു ഞാന്‍ കാണുന്നു.

33 കഴുത എന്നെ കണ്ടു ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം എന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ നിന്നു മാറിപ്പോയി; അതു മാറിപ്പോയിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കില്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ തന്നേ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളകയും അതിനെ ജീവനോട രക്ഷിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34 ബിലെയാം യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞാന്‍ പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുനീ എനിക്കു എതിരായി വഴിയില്‍നിന്നിരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; ഇതു നിനക്കു അനിഷ്ടമെന്നുവരികില്‍ ഞാന്‍ മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

35 യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ ബിലെയാമിനോടുഇവരോടുകൂടെ പോക; എങ്കിലും ഞാന്‍ നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന വചനം മാത്രമേ പറയാവു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോകയും ചെയ്തു.

36 ബിലെയാം വരുന്നു എന്നു ബാലാക്‍ കേട്ടപ്പോള്‍ അര്‍ന്നോന്‍ തീരത്തു ദേശത്തിന്റെ അതിരിലുള്ള ഈര്‍മോവാബ്വരെ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നു.

37 ബാലാക്‍ ബിലെയാമിനോടുഞാന്‍ നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പാന്‍ ആളയച്ചില്ലയോ? നീ വരാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു? നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിപ്പാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴികയില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോടു

38 ഞാന്‍ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നാല്‍ എന്തെങ്കിലും പറവാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? ദൈവം എന്റെ നാവിന്മേല്‍ ആക്കിത്തരുന്ന വചനമേ ഞാന്‍ പ്രസ്താവിക്കയുള്ളു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

39 അങ്ങനെ ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോടുകൂടെ പോയി; അവര്‍ കിര്‍യ്യത്ത് - ഹൂസോത്തില്‍ എത്തി.

40 ബാലാക്‍ കാളകളെയും ആടുകളെയും അറുത്തു ബിലെയാമിന്നും അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്‍ക്കും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

41 പിറ്റെന്നാള്‍ ബാലാക്‍ ബിലെയാമിനെ ബാമോത്ത്-ബാലിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവിടെനിന്നു അവന്‍ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഒരു അറ്റം കണ്ടു.

12 And God ^H430 said ^H559 unto ^H413 Balaam, ^H1109 Thou shalt not ^H3808 go ^H1980 with ^H5973 them ; thou shalt not ^H3808 curse ^H779 ^H853 the people: ^H5971 for ^H3588 they ^H1931 are blessed. ^H1288

13 And Balaam ^H1109 rose up ^H6965 in the morning, ^H1242 and said ^H559 unto ^H413 the princes ^H8269 of Balak, ^H1111 Get ^H1980 you into ^H413 your land: ^H776 for ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 refuseth ^H3985 to give me leave ^H5414 to go ^H1980 with ^H5973 you.

15 And Balak ^H1111 sent ^H7971 yet ^H5750 again ^H3254 princes, ^H8269 more, ^H7227 and more honorable ^H3513 than they ^H4480 ^H428 .

16 And they came ^H935 to ^H413 Balaam, ^H1109 and said ^H559 to him, Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 Balak ^H1111 the son ^H1121 of Zippor, ^H6834 Let nothing, ^H408 I pray thee, ^H4994 hinder ^H4513 thee from coming ^H4480 ^H1980 unto ^H413 me:

27 And when the ass ^H860 saw ^H7200 ^H853 the angel ^H4397 of the LORD, ^H3068 she fell down ^H7257 under ^H8478 Balaam: ^H1109 and Balaam's ^H1109 anger ^H639 was kindled, ^H2734 and he smote ^H5221 ^H853 the ass ^H860 with a staff. ^H4731

28 And the LORD ^H3068 opened ^H6605 ^H853 the mouth ^H6310 of the ass, ^H860 and she said ^H559 unto Balaam, ^H1109 What ^H4100 have I done ^H6213 unto thee, that ^H3588 thou hast smitten ^H5221 me these ^H2088 three ^H7969 times ^H7272 ?

29 And Balaam ^H1109 said ^H559 unto the ass, ^H860 Because ^H3588 thou hast mocked ^H5953 me : I would ^H3863 there were ^H3426 a sword ^H2719 in mine hand, ^H3027 for ^H3588 now ^H6258 would I kill ^H2026 thee.

30 And the ass ^H860 said ^H559 unto ^H413 Balaam, ^H1109 Am not ^H3808 I ^H595 thine ass, ^H860 upon ^H5921 which ^H834 thou hast ridden ^H7392 ever since ^H4480 ^H5750 I was thine unto ^H5704 this ^H2088 day ^H3117 ? was I ever wont ^H5532 ^H5532 to do ^H6213 so ^H3541 unto thee? And he said, ^H559 Nay. ^H3808

31 Then the LORD ^H3068 opened ^H1540 ^H853 the eyes ^H5869 of Balaam, ^H1109 and he saw ^H7200 ^H853 the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 standing ^H5324 in the way, ^H1870 and his sword ^H2719 drawn ^H8025 in his hand: ^H3027 and he bowed down his head, ^H6915 and fell flat ^H7812 on his face. ^H639

32 And the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 unto ^H413 him, Wherefore ^H5921 ^H4100 hast thou smitten ^H5221 ^H853 thine ass ^H860 these ^H2088 three ^H7969 times ^H7272 ? behold, ^H2009 I ^H595 went out ^H3318 to withstand ^H7854 thee, because ^H3588 thy way ^H1870 is perverse ^H3399 before ^H5048 me:

33 And the ass ^H860 saw ^H7200 me , and turned ^H5186 from ^H6440 me these ^H2088 three ^H7969 times: ^H7272 unless ^H194 she had turned ^H5186 from ^H4480 ^H6440 me, surely ^H3588 now ^H6258 also ^H1571 I had slain ^H2026 thee , and saved her alive ^H2421 ^H853 .

34 And Balaam ^H1109 said ^H559 unto ^H413 the angel ^H4397 of the LORD, ^H3068 I have sinned; ^H2398 for ^H3588 I knew ^H3045 not ^H3808 that ^H3588 thou ^H859 stoodest ^H5324 in the way ^H1870 against ^H7125 me: now ^H6258 therefore, if ^H518 it displease ^H7489 ^H5869 thee , I will get me back again. ^H7725

35 And the angel ^H4397 of the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 unto ^H413 Balaam, ^H1109 Go ^H1980 with ^H5973 the men: ^H376 but only ^H657 ^H853 the word ^H1697 that ^H834 I shall speak ^H1696 unto ^H413 thee , that thou shalt speak. ^H1696 So Balaam ^H1109 went ^H1980 with ^H5973 the princes ^H8269 of Balak. ^H1111

36 And when Balak ^H1111 heard ^H8085 that ^H3588 Balaam ^H1109 was come, ^H935 he went out ^H3318 to meet ^H7125 him unto ^H413 a city ^H5892 of Moab, ^H4124 which ^H834 is in ^H5921 the border ^H1366 of Arnon, ^H769 which ^H834 is in the utmost ^H7097 coast. ^H1366

37 And Balak ^H1111 said ^H559 unto ^H413 Balaam, ^H1109 Did I not ^H3808 earnestly send ^H7971 ^H7971 unto ^H413 thee to call ^H7121 thee? wherefore ^H4100 camest ^H1980 thou not ^H3808 unto ^H413 me? am I not able ^H3201 ^H3808 indeed ^H552 to promote thee to honor ^H3513 ?

38 And Balaam ^H1109 said ^H559 unto ^H413 Balak, ^H1111 Lo, ^H2009 I am come ^H935 unto ^H413 thee : have I now ^H6258 any power at all ^H3201 ^H3201 to say ^H1696 any thing ^H3972 ? the word ^H1697 that ^H834 God ^H430 putteth ^H7760 in my mouth, ^H6310 that shall I speak. ^H1696

39 And Balaam ^H1109 went ^H1980 with ^H5973 Balak, ^H1111 and they came ^H935 unto Kirjath- ^H7155 huzoth.

40 And Balak ^H1111 offered ^H2076 oxen ^H1241 and sheep, ^H6629 and sent ^H7971 to Balaam, ^H1109 and to the princes ^H8269 that ^H834 were with ^H854 him.

41 And it came to pass ^H1961 on the morrow, ^H1242 that Balak ^H1111 took ^H3947 ^H853 Balaam, ^H1109 and brought him up ^H5927 into the high places ^H1116 of Baal, ^H1168 that thence ^H4480 ^H8033 he might see ^H7200 the utmost ^H7097 part of the people. ^H5971
