1 മകനേ, കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി നീ ജാമ്യം നില്‍ക്കയോ അന്യന്നു വേണ്ടി കയ്യടിക്കയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍,
2 നിന്റെ വായിലെ വാക്കുകളാല്‍ നീ കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോയി; നിന്റെ വായിലെ മൊഴികളാല്‍ പിടിപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
3 ആകയാല്‍ മകനേ, ഇതു ചെയ്ക; നിന്നെത്തന്നേ വിടുവിക്ക; കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ നീ അകപ്പെട്ടുപോയല്ലോ; നീ ചെന്നു, താണുവീണു കൂട്ടുകാരനോടു മുട്ടിച്ചപേക്ഷിക്ക.
4 നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഉറക്കവും നിന്റെ കണ്ണിമെക്കു നിദ്രയും കൊടുക്കരുതു.
5 മാന്‍ നായാട്ടുകാരന്റെ കയ്യില്‍നിന്നും പക്ഷി വേട്ടക്കാരന്റെ കയ്യില്‍നിന്നും എന്നപോലെ നീ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ വിടുവിക്ക,
6 മടിയാ, ഉറുമ്പിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെല്ലുക; അതിന്റെ വഴികളെ നോക്കി ബുദ്ധിപഠിക്ക.
7 അതിന്നു നായകനും മേല്‍വിചാരകനും അധിപതിയും ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നിട്ടും
8 വേനല്‍ക്കാലത്തു തന്റെ ആഹാരം ഒരുക്കുന്നു; കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തു തന്റെ തീന്‍ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.
9 മടിയാ, നീ എത്രനേരം കിടന്നുറങ്ങും? എപ്പോള്‍ ഉറക്കത്തില്‍ നിന്നെഴുന്നേലക്കും?
10 ക്കുറേക്കൂടെ ഉറക്കം; കുറേക്കൂടെ നിദ്ര; കുറെക്കൂടെ കൈകെട്ടിക്കിടക്ക.
11 അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ ദാരിദ്ര്യം വഴിപോക്കനെപ്പോലെയും നിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു ആയുധപാണിയെപ്പോലെയും വരും.
12 നിസ്സാരനും ദുഷ്കര്‍മ്മിയുമായവന്‍ വായുടെ വക്രതയോടെ നടക്കുന്നു.
13 അവന്‍ കണ്ണിമെക്കുന്നു; കാല്‍കൊണ്ടു പരണ്ടുന്നു; വിരല്‍കൊണ്ടു ആംഗ്യം കാണിക്കുന്നു.
14 അവന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ വക്രതയുണ്ടു; അവന്‍ എല്ലായ്പോഴും ദോഷം നിരൂപിച്ചു വഴക്കുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു.
15 അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ ആപത്തു പെട്ടെന്നു വരും; ക്ഷണത്തില്‍ അവന്‍ തകര്‍ന്നുപോകും; പ്രതിശാന്തിയുണ്ടാകയുമില്ല.
16 ആറു കാര്യം യഹോവ വെറുക്കുന്നു; ഏഴു കാര്യം അവന്നു അറെപ്പാകുന്നു
17 ഗര്‍വ്വമുള്ള കണ്ണും വ്യാജമുള്ള നാവും കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം ചൊരിയുന്ന കയ്യും
18 ദുരുപായം നിരൂപിക്കുന്ന ഹൃദയവും ദോഷത്തിന്നു ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ഔടുന്ന കാലും
19 ഭോഷകു പറയുന്ന കള്ളസാക്ഷിയും സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില്‍ വഴക്കുണ്ടാക്കുന്നവനും തന്നേ.
20 മകനേ, നിന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ കല്പന പ്രമാണിക്ക; അമ്മയുടെ ഉപദേശം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കയുമരുതു.
21 അതു എല്ലായ്പോഴും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോടു ബന്ധിച്ചുകൊള്‍ക; നിന്റെ കഴുത്തില്‍ അതു കെട്ടിക്കൊള്‍ക.
22 നീ നടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അതു നിനക്കു വഴികാണിക്കും. നീ ഉറങ്ങുമ്പോള്‍ അതു നിന്നെ കാക്കും; നീ ഉണരുമ്പോള്‍ അതു നിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കും.
23 കല്പന ഒരു ദീപവും ഉപദേശം ഒരു വെളിച്ചവും പ്രബോധനത്തിന്റെ ശാസനകള്‍ ജീവന്റെ മാര്‍ഗ്ഗവും ആകുന്നു.
24 അവ ദുഷ്ടസ്ത്രീയുടെ വശീകരണത്തില്‍നിന്നും പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ ചക്കരവാക്കുകളില്‍നിന്നും നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും.
25 അവളുടെ സൌന്ദര്യത്തെ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ മോഹിക്കരുതു; അവള്‍ കണ്ണിമകൊണ്ടു നിന്നെ വശീകരിക്കയുമരുതു.
26 വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീനിമിത്തം പെറുക്കിത്തിന്നേണ്ടിവരും; വ്യഭിചാരിണി വിലയേറിയ ജീവനെ വേട്ടയാടുന്നു.
27 ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്നു തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം വെന്തു പോകാതെ മടിയില്‍ തീ കൊണ്ടുവരാമോ?
28 ഒരുത്തന്നു കാല്‍ പൊള്ളാതെ തീക്കനലിന്മേല്‍ നടക്കാമോ?
29 കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെല്ലുന്നവന്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ തന്നേ; അവളെ തൊടുന്ന ഒരുത്തനും ശിക്ഷവരാതെയിരിക്കയില്ല.
30 കള്ളന്‍ വിശന്നിട്ടു വിശപ്പടക്കുവാന്‍ മാത്രം കട്ടാല്‍ ആരും അവനെ നിരസിക്കുന്നില്ല.
31 അവനെ പിടികിട്ടിയാല്‍ അവന്‍ ഏഴിരട്ടി മടക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാം; തന്റെ വീട്ടിലെ വസ്തുവക ഒക്കെയും കൊടുക്കാം;
32 സ്ത്രീയോടു വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ, ബുദ്ധിഹീനന്‍ ; അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ സ്വന്തപ്രാണനെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
33 പ്രഹരവും അപമാനവും അവന്നു ലഭിക്കും; അവന്റെ നിന്ദ മാഞ്ഞുപോകയുമില്ല.
34 ജാരശങ്ക പുരുഷന്നു ക്രോധഹേതുവാകുന്നു; പ്രതികാരദിവസത്തില്‍ അവന്‍ ഇളെക്കുകയില്ല.
35 അവന്‍ യാതൊരു പ്രതിശാന്തിയും കൈക്കൊള്ളുകയില്ല; എത്ര സമ്മാനം കൊടുത്താലും അവന്‍ തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുകയുമില്ല.
