Deuteronomy 7:20 (YLT) Young's Literal Translation

1 `When Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land whither thou art going in to possess it, and He hath cast out many nations from thy presence, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations more numerous and mighty than thou,
2 and Jehovah thy God hath given them before thee, and thou hast smitten them -- thou dost utterly devote them -- thou dost not make with them a covenant, nor dost thou favour them.
3 `And thou dost not join in marriage with them; thy daughter thou dost not give to his son, and his daughter thou dost not take to thy son,
4 for he doth turn aside thy son from after Me, and they have served other gods, and the anger of Jehovah hath burned against you, and hath destroyed thee hastily.
5 `But thus thou dost to them: their altars ye break down, and their standing pillars ye shiver, and their shrines ye cut down, and their graven images ye burn with fire;
6 for a holy people art thou to Jehovah thy God; on thee hath Jehovah thy God fixed, to be to Him for a peculiar people, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the ground.
7 `Not because of your being more numerous than any of the peoples hath Jehovah delighted in you, and fixeth on you, for ye are the least of all the peoples,
8 but because of Jehovah's loving you, and because of His keeping the oath which He hath sworn to your fathers, hath Jehovah brought you out by a strong hand, and doth ransom you from a house of servants, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 `And thou hast known that Jehovah thy God He is God, the faithful God, keeping the covenant, and the kindness, to those loving Him, and to those keeping His commands -- to a thousand generations,
10 and repaying to those hating Him, unto their face, to destroy them; He delayeth not to him who is hating Him -- unto his face, He repayeth to him --
11 and thou hast kept the command, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I am commanding thee to-day to do them.
12 `And it hath been, because ye hear these judgments, and have kept, and done them, that Jehovah thy God hath kept to thee the covenant and the kindness which He hath sworn to thy fathers,
13 and hath loved thee, and blessed thee, and multiplied thee, and hath blessed the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, thy corn, and thy new wine, and thine oil, the increase of thine oxen, and the wealth of thy flock, on the ground which He hath sworn to thy fathers to give to thee.
14 `Blessed art thou above all the peoples, there is not in thee a barren man or a barren woman -- nor among your cattle;
15 and Jehovah hath turned aside from thee every sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt (which thou hast known) doth He put on thee, and He hath put them on all hating thee.
16 `And thou hast consumed all the peoples whom Jehovah thy God is giving to thee; thine eye hath no pity on them, and thou dost not serve their gods, for a snare it is to thee.
17 `When thou sayest in thine heart, These nations are more numerous than I, how am I able to dispossess them? --
18 thou art not afraid of them; thou dost surely remember that which Jehovah thy God hath done to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt,
19 the great trials which thine eyes have seen, and the signs, and the wonders, and the strong hand, and the stretched-out arm, with which Jehovah thy God hath brought thee out; so doth Jehovah thy God to all the peoples of whose presence thou art afraid.
20 `And also the locust doth Jehovah thy God send among them, till the destruction of those who are left, and of those who are hidden from thy presence;
21 thou art not terrified by their presence, for Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a God great and fearful.
22 `And Jehovah thy God hath cast out these nations from thy presence little by little, (thou art not able to consume them hastily, lest the beast of the field multiply against thee),
23 and Jehovah thy God hath given them before thee, and destroyed them -- a great destruction -- till their destruction;
24 and He hath given their kings into thy hand, and thou hast destroyed their name from under the heavens; no man doth station himself in thy presence till thou hast destroyed them.
25 `The graven images of their gods ye do burn with fire; thou dost not desire the silver and gold on them, nor hast thou taken it to thyself, lest thou be snared by it, for the abomination of Jehovah thy God it is;
26 and thou dost not bring in an abomination unto thy house -- or thou hast been devoted like it; -- thou dost utterly detest it, and thou dost utterly abominate it; for it is devoted.

2 And when the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS shall deliver H5414 them before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee ; thou shalt smite H5221 them , and utterly destroy H2763 them ; thou shalt make H3772 no H3808 NADV covenant H1285 NFS with them , nor H3808 W-NADV show mercy H2603 unto them :
3 Neither H3808 W-NPAR shalt thou make marriages H2859 with them ; thy daughter H1323 thou shalt not H3808 W-NPAR give H5414 unto his son H1121 , nor H3808 W-NPAR his daughter H1323 shalt thou take H3947 unto thy son H1121 .
4 For H3588 CONJ they will turn away H5493 thy son H1121 from following H310 me , that they may serve H5647 other H312 AMP gods H430 EDP : so will the anger H639 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS be kindled H2734 against you , and destroy H8045 thee suddenly H4118 .
5 But H518 PART thus H3541 shall ye deal H6213 with them ; ye shall destroy H5422 their altars H4196 , and break down H7665 their images H4676 , and cut down H1438 their groves H842 , and burn H8313 their graven images H6456 with fire H784 .
6 For H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS art a holy H6918 people H5971 NMS unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS : the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS hath chosen H977 thee to be H1961 a special H5459 people H5971 unto himself , above all H3605 M-CMS people H5971 that H834 RPRO are upon H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of the earth H127 D-NFS .
7 The LORD H3068 EDS did not H3808 NADV set his love H2836 upon you , nor choose H977 W-VQY3MS you , because ye were more in number H7230 than any H3605 M-CMS people H5971 ; for H3588 CONJ ye H859 PPRO-2MS were the fewest H4592 D-AMS of all H3605 M-CMS people H5971 :
8 But H3588 CONJ because the LORD H3068 EDS loved H160 you , and because he would keep H8104 the oath H7621 which H834 RPRO he had sworn H7650 unto your fathers H1 , hath the LORD H3068 EDS brought you out H3318 VHQ3MS with a mighty H2389 hand H3027 , and redeemed H6299 you out of the house H1004 of bondmen H5650 NMP , from the hand H3027 M-GFS of Pharaoh H6547 EMS king H4428 NMS of Egypt H4714 .
9 Know H3045 W-VQY2MS therefore that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS , he H1931 PPRO-3MS is God H430 CMP-2MS , the faithful H539 God H410 , which keepeth H8104 covenant H1285 D-NFS and mercy H2617 with them that love H157 him and keep H8104 his commandments H4687 to a thousand H505 generations H1755 ;
10 And repayeth H7999 them that hate H8130 him to H413 PREP their face H6440 CMP-3MS , to destroy H6 them : he will not H3808 NADV be slack H309 to him that hateth H8130 him , he will repay H7999 VPY3MS him to H413 PREP his face H6440 CMP-3MS .
11 Thou shalt therefore keep H8104 the commandments H4687 , and the statutes H2706 , and the judgments H4941 , which H834 RPRO I H595 PPRO-1MS command H6680 thee this day H3117 D-AMS , to do H6213 them .
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , if H6118 ye hearken H8085 to these H428 D-DPRO-3MP judgments H4941 , and keep H8104 , and do H6213 them , that the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS shall keep H8104 unto thee the covenant H1285 D-NFS and the mercy H2617 which H834 RPRO he swore H7650 unto thy fathers H1 :
13 And he will love H157 thee , and bless H1288 thee , and multiply H7235 thee : he will also bless H1288 the fruit H6529 of thy womb H990 , and the fruit H6529 of thy land H127 , thy corn H1715 , and thy wine H8492 , and thine oil H3323 , the increase H7698 of thy kine H504 , and the flocks H6251 of thy sheep H6629 , in H5921 PREP the land H127 D-NFS which H834 RPRO he swore H7650 unto thy fathers H1 to give H5414 thee .
14 Thou shalt be H1961 VQY2MS blessed H1288 VWQ3MS above all H3605 M-CMS people H5971 : there shall not H3808 NADV be H1961 VQY3MS male H6135 or female barren H6135 among you , or among your cattle H929 .
15 And the LORD H3068 EDS will take away H5493 from H4480 PREP-2MS thee all H3605 NMS sickness H2483 , and will put H7760 none H3605 NMS of the evil H7451 diseases H4064 of Egypt H4714 EFS , which H834 RPRO thou knowest H3045 VQQ2MS , upon thee ; but will lay H5414 them upon all H3605 NMS them that hate H130 thee .
16 And thou shalt consume H398 W-VQQ2MS all H3605 NMS the people H5971 which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS shall deliver H5414 VQPMS thee ; thine eye H5869 shall have no pity H2347 upon H5921 PREP-3MP them : neither H3808 NADV shalt thou serve H5647 their gods H430 CMP-2MS ; for H3588 CONJ that H1931 PPRO-3MS will be a snare H4170 unto thee .
17 If H3588 CONJ thou shalt say H559 VQY2MS in thine heart H3824 , These H428 D-DPRO-3MP nations H1471 D-NMP are more H7227 AMP than H4480 M-PREP-1MS I ; how H349 can H3201 I dispossess H3423 them ?
18 Thou shalt not H3808 NADV be afraid H3372 VQY3MS of H4480 them : but shalt well remember H2142 what H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS did H6213 VQQ3MS unto Pharaoh H6547 , and unto all H3605 Egypt H4714 ;
19 The great H1419 temptations H4531 which H834 RPRO thine eyes H5869 CMD-2MS saw H7200 VQQ3MP , and the signs H226 , and the wonders H4159 , and the mighty H2389 hand H3027 , and the stretched out H5186 arm H2220 , whereby H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS brought thee out H3318 : so H3651 ADV shall the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS do H6213 VQY3MS unto all H3605 L-CMS the people H5971 of whom H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS art afraid H3372 .
20 Moreover H1571 W-CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS will send H7971 the hornet H6880 among them , until H5704 PREP they that are left H7604 , and hide themselves H5641 from thee , be destroyed H6 .
21 Thou shalt not H3808 NADV be frightened H6206 at H6440 M-CMP-3MP them : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS is among H7130 you , a mighty H1419 AMS God H410 EDS and terrible H3372 .
22 And the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS will put out H5394 those H411 nations H1471 D-NMP before H6440 M-CMP-2MS thee by little H4592 AMS and little H4592 : thou mayest H3201 not H3808 NADV consume H3615 them at once H4118 , lest H6435 CONJ the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS increase H7235 upon H5921 PREP-2MS thee .
23 But the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS shall deliver H5414 them unto H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee , and shall destroy H1949 them with a mighty H1419 destruction H4103 , until H5704 PREP they be destroyed H8045 .
24 And he shall deliver H5414 W-VQQ3MS their kings H4428 into thine hand H3027 B-CFS-2MS , and thou shalt destroy H6 their name H8034 CMS-3MP from under H8478 M-CFS heaven H8064 D-AMP : there shall no H3808 ADV man H376 NMS be able to stand H3320 before H6440 thee , until H5704 PREP thou have destroyed H8045 them .
25 The graven images H6456 of their gods H430 CMP-2MS shall ye burn H8313 with fire H784 : thou shalt not H3808 ADV desire H2530 the silver H3701 NMS or gold H2091 that is on H5921 PREP-3MP them , nor take H3947 it unto thee , lest H6435 CONJ thou be snared H3369 therein : for H3588 CONJ it H1931 PPRO-3MS is an abomination H8441 to the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS .
26 Neither H3808 W-NPAR shalt thou bring H935 VHY2MS an abomination H8441 into H413 PREP thine house H1004 , lest thou be H1961 W-VQQ2MS a cursed thing H2764 like it H3644 PART-3MS : but thou shalt utterly detest H8262 it , and thou shalt utterly abhor H8581 it ; for H3588 CONJ it H1931 PPRO-3MS is a cursed thing H2764 .
