1 അബീയാവു തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തിൽ അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ മകനായ ആസാ അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി. അവന്റെ കാലത്തു ദേശത്തിന്നു പത്തു സംവത്സരം സ്വസ്ഥത ഉണ്ടായി.
2 ആസാ തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവെക്കു പ്രസാദവും ഹിതവും ആയുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു.
3 അവൻ അന്യദേവന്മാരുടെ ബലിപീഠങ്ങളും പൂജാഗിരികളും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു, സ്തംഭവിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ ഉടെച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു,
4 യെഹൂദയോടു അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ന്യായപ്രാമണവും കല്പനയും ആചരിച്ചു നടപ്പാനും കല്പിച്ചു.
5 അവൻ എല്ലായെഹൂദാപട്ടണങ്ങളിൽനിന്നും പൂജാഗിരികളും സൂര്യവിഗ്രഹങ്ങളും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; രാജ്യം അവന്റെ കീഴിയിൽ സ്വസ്ഥമായിരുന്നു.
6 യഹോവ അവന്നു വിശ്രമം നല്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു ദേശത്തിന്നു സ്വസ്ഥത ഉണ്ടാകയാലും ആ സംവത്സരങ്ങളിൽ അവന്നു യുദ്ധം ഇല്ലായ്കയാലും അവൻ യെഹൂദയിൽ ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളെ പണിതു.
7 അവൻ യെഹൂദ്യരോടു: നാം ഈ പട്ടണങ്ങളെ പണിതു അവെക്കു ചുറ്റും മതിലുകളും ഗോപുരങ്ങളും വാതിലുകളും ഓടാമ്പലുകളും ഉണ്ടാക്കുക; നാം നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ദേശം നമുക്കു സ്വാധീനമായിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; നാം അവനെ അന്വേഷിക്കയും അവൻ ചുറ്റും നമുക്കു വിശ്രമം നല്കയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ വെടിപ്പായി പണിതു തീർത്തു.
8 ആസെക്കു വൻ പരിചയും കുന്തവും എടുത്തവരായി മൂന്നുലക്ഷം യെഹൂദ്യരും ചെറുപരിച എടുപ്പാനും വില്ലു കുലെപ്പാനും പ്രാപ്തരായി രണ്ടുലക്ഷത്തെണ്പതിനായിരം ബെന്യാമീന്യരും ഉള്ളോരു സൈന്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവരെല്ലാവരും പരാക്രമശാലികൾ ആയിരുന്നു.
9 അനന്തരം കൂശ്യനായ സേരഹ് പത്തുലക്ഷം ആളും മുന്നൂറു രഥവും ഉള്ള സൈന്യത്തോടുകൂടെ അവരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു മാരേശാവരെ വന്നു.
10 ആസാ അവന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവർ മാരേശെക്കു സമീപം സെഫാഥാതാഴ്വരയിൽ പടെക്കു അണിനിരത്തി.
11 ആസാ തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ വിളിച്ചപേക്ഷിച്ചു: യഹോവേ, ബലവാന്നും ബലഹീനന്നും തമ്മിൽ കാര്യം ഉണ്ടായാൽ സഹായിപ്പാൻ നീയല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരുമില്ല; ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ഞങ്ങളെ, സഹായിക്കേണമേ; നിന്നിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ഈ പുരുഷാരത്തിന്നു നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവേ, നീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവം; മർത്യൻ നിന്റെ നേരെ പ്രബലനാകരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
12 അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ ആസയുടെയും യെഹൂദ്യരുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ കൂശ്യരെ തോല്ക്കുമാറാക്കി; കൂശ്യർ ഓടിപ്പോയി.
13 ആസയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പടജ്ജനവും അവരെ ഗെരാർവരേ പിന്തുടർന്നു; കൂശ്യർ ആരും ജീവനോടെ ശേഷിക്കാതെ പട്ടുപോയി; അവർ യഹോവയുടെയും അവന്റെ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ നശിച്ചുപോയി; അവർ വളരെ കവർച്ചയും എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു പോന്നു.
14 അവർ ഗെരാറിന്നു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം നശിപ്പിച്ചു; യഹോവയിങ്കൽ നിന്നു ഒരു ഭീതി അവയുടെമേൽ വീണിരുന്നു; അവർ എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളെയും കൊള്ളയിട്ടു; അവയിൽ കൊള്ള വളരെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
15 അവർ നാൽക്കാലികളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളെയും ആക്രമിച്ചു, അനവധി ആടുകളെയും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെയും അപഹരിച്ചു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.
1 So Abijah H29 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and they buried H6912 him in the city H5892 of David H1732 : and Asa H609 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 PREP-3MS . In his days H3117 the land H776 D-GFS was quiet H8252 ten H6235 MFS years H8141 .
2 And Asa H609 did H6213 W-VQY3MS that which was good H2896 D-NMS and right H3477 in the eyes H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS his God H430 :
3 For he took away H5493 W-VHY3MS the altars H4196 of the strange H5236 gods , and the high places H1116 , and broke down H7665 the images H4676 , and cut down H1438 the groves H842 :
4 And commanded H559 W-VQY3MS Judah H3063 to seek H1875 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 , and to do H6213 the law H8451 and the commandment H4687 .
5 Also he took away H5493 W-VHY3MS out of all H3605 M-CMS the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 the high places H1116 and the images H2553 : and the kingdom H4467 was quiet H8252 before H6440 him .
6 And he built H1129 W-VQY3MS fenced H4694 cities H5892 in Judah H3063 : for H3588 CONJ the land H776 D-GFS had rest H8252 , and he had no H369 W-NPAR war H4421 NFS in those H428 D-DPRO-3MP years H8141 ; because H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS had given him rest H5117 .
7 Therefore he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Judah H3063 , Let us build H1129 VQI1MS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP cities H5892 , and make about H5437 them walls H2346 , and towers H4026 , gates H1817 , and bars H1280 , while the land H776 D-GFS is yet H5750 before H6440 us ; because H3588 CONJ we have sought H1875 the LORD H3068 EDS our God H430 , we have sought H1875 him , and he hath given us rest H5117 on every side H5439 M-ADV . So they built H1129 and prospered H6743 .
8 And Asa H609 had H1961 W-VQY3MS an army H2428 NMS of men that bore H5375 targets H6793 and spears H7420 , out of H4480 Judah H3063 three H7969 BFS hundred H3967 BFP thousand H505 W-BMS ; and out of Benjamin H1144 , that bore H5375 shields H4043 NMS and drew H1869 bows H7198 CFS , two hundred H3967 MFD and fourscore H8084 W-MMP thousand H505 MMS : all H3605 NMS these H428 PMP were mighty men H1368 of valor H2428 NMS .
9 And there came out H3318 W-VQY3MS against H413 PREP-3MP them Zerah H2226 the Ethiopian H3569 with a host H2428 of a thousand H505 W-BMS thousand H505 MMP , and three H7969 BFS hundred H3967 BFP chariots H4818 ; and came H935 W-VQY3MS unto H5704 PREP Mareshah H4762 .
10 Then Asa H609 went out H3318 W-VQY3MS against H6440 L-CMP-3MS him , and they set the battle in array H6186 W-VQY3MP in the valley H1516 of Zephathah H6859 at Mareshah H4762 .
11 And Asa H609 cried H7121 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS his God H430 CMP-3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , LORD H3068 EDS , it is nothing H369 ADV with H5973 PREP-2MS thee to help H5826 , whether H996 PREP with many H7227 AMS , or with them that have no H369 power H3581 CMS : help H5826 us , O LORD H3068 EDS our God H430 ; for H3588 CONJ we rest H8172 on H5921 PREP thee , and in thy name H8034 we go H935 against H5921 PREP this H2088 D-PMS multitude H1995 . O LORD H3068 EDS , thou H859 PPRO-2MS art our God H430 ; let not H408 NPAR man H582 prevail H6113 VQY3MS against H5973 PREP-2MS thee .
12 So the LORD H3068 EDS smote H5062 the Ethiopians H3569 before H6440 L-CMP Asa H609 , and before H6440 L-CMP Judah H3063 ; and the Ethiopians H3569 fled H5127 W-VQY3MP .
13 And Asa H609 and the people H5971 that H834 RPRO were with H5973 PREP-3MS him pursued H7291 them unto H5704 PREP Gerar H1642 : and the Ethiopians H3569 were overthrown H5307 W-VQY3MS , that they could not H369 recover H4241 themselves ; for H3588 CONJ they were destroyed H7665 before H6440 the LORD H3068 EDS , and before H6440 WL-CMP his host H4264 ; and they carried away H5375 W-VQY3MP very H3966 ADV much H7235 VHFA spoil H7998 .
14 And they smote H5221 W-VHY3MP all H3605 NMS the cities H5892 round about H5439 ADV Gerar H1642 ; for H3588 CONJ the fear H6343 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 VQQ3MS upon H5921 PREP-3MP them : and they spoiled H962 all H3605 NMS the cities H5892 ; for H3588 CONJ there was H1961 VQQ3FS exceeding much H7227 AFS spoil H961 in them .
15 They smote H5221 VHQ3MP also H1571 W-CONJ the tents H168 of cattle H4735 NMS , and carried away H7617 sheep H6629 NMS and camels H1581 in abundance H7230 LD-NMS , and returned H7725 W-VUY3MP to Jerusalem H3389 .
