2 Chronicles 12:1 (WEB) World English Bible

1 It happened, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and he was strong, that he forsook the law of Yahweh, and all Israel with him.
2 It happened in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Yahweh,
3 with twelve hundred chariots, and sixty thousand horsemen. The people were without number who came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians.
4 He took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Now Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, who were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, Thus says Yahweh, You have forsaken me, therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
6 Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, Yahweh is righteous.
7 When Yahweh saw that they humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves: I will not destroy them; but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
9 So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the king's house: he took all away: he took away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
10 King Rehoboam made in their place shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house.
11 It was so, that as often as the king entered into the house of Yahweh, the guard came and bore them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.
12 When he humbled himself, the wrath of Yahweh turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether: and moreover in Judah there were good things found.
13 So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there: and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.
14 He did that which was evil, because he didn't set his heart to seek Yahweh.
15 Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, aren't they written in the histories of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, after the manner of genealogies? There were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
16 Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his place.

2 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that in the fifth H2549 year H8141 of king H4428 NMS Rehoboam H7346 Shishak H7895 king H4428 NMS of Egypt H4714 EFS came up H5927 against H5921 PREP Jerusalem H3389 , because H3588 CONJ they had transgressed H4603 against the LORD H3068 ,
3 With twelve hundred H3967 W-MFD chariots H7393 , and threescore H8346 thousand H505 horsemen H6571 : and the people H5971 were without H369 W-NPAR number H4557 NMS that H834 RPRO came H935 VQQ3MP with H5973 PREP-3MS him out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS ; the Lubims H3864 , the Sukkiims H5525 , and the Ethiopians H3569 .
4 And he took H3920 the fenced H4694 cities H5892 which H834 RPRO pertained to Judah H3063 , and came H935 W-VQY3MS to H5704 PREP Jerusalem H3389 .
5 Then came H935 VQPMS Shemaiah H8098 the prophet H5030 to H413 PREP Rehoboam H7346 , and to the princes H8269 of Judah H3063 , that H834 RPRO were gathered together H622 to H413 PREP Jerusalem H3389 because of M-CMP Shishak H7895 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto them , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , Ye H859 PPRO-2MS have forsaken H5800 me , and therefore have I H589 PPRO-1MS also H637 W-CONJ left H5800 you in the hand H3027 B-CFS of Shishak H7895 .
6 Whereupon the princes H8269 of Israel H3478 and the king H4428 humbled themselves H3665 ; and they said H559 W-VQY3MP , The LORD H3068 NAME-4MS is righteous H6662 AMS .
7 And when the LORD H3068 EDS saw H7200 that H3588 CONJ they humbled themselves H3665 , the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 VQQ3MS to H413 PREP Shemaiah H8098 , saying H559 L-VQFC , They have humbled themselves H3665 ; therefore I will not H3808 NADV destroy H7843 them , but I will grant H5414 them some H4592 K-AMS deliverance H6413 ; and my wrath H2534 shall not H3808 W-NADV be poured out H5413 upon Jerusalem H3389 by the hand H3027 B-CFS of Shishak H7895 .
8 Nevertheless H3588 CONJ they shall be H1961 VQY3MP his servants H5650 ; that they may know H3045 my service H5656 , and the service H5656 of the kingdoms H4467 of the countries H776 .
9 So Shishak H7895 king H4428 NMS of Egypt H4714 EFS came up H5927 W-VHY3MS against H5921 PREP Jerusalem H3389 , and took away H3947 W-VQY3MS the treasures H214 CMP of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and the treasures H214 of the king H4428 NMS \'s house H1004 CMS ; he took H3947 VQQ3MS all H3605 : he carried away H3947 W-VQY3MS also the shields H4043 of gold H2091 which H834 RPRO Solomon H8010 had made H6213 VQQ3MS .
10 Instead of H8478 which king H4428 D-NMS Rehoboam H7346 made H6213 W-VQY3MS shields H4043 of brass H5178 CFS , and committed H6485 them to H5921 PREP the hands H3027 CFS of the chief H8269 CMP of the guard H7323 , that kept H8104 the entrance H6607 CMS of the king H4428 \'s house H1004 CMS .
11 And when H1767 the king H4428 D-NMS entered into H1961 W-VQY3MS the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , the guard H7323 came H935 and fetched H5375 them , and brought them again H7725 into H413 PREP the guard H7323 chamber H8372 .
12 And when he humbled himself H3665 , the wrath H639 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS turned H7725 VQQ3MS from H4480 M-PREP-3MS him , that he would not H3808 W-NPAR destroy H7843 him altogether H3617 : and also H1571 W-CONJ in Judah H3063 things H1697 NMP went H1961 VQQ3MS well H2896 .
13 So king H4428 D-NMS Rehoboam H7346 strengthened himself H2388 in Jerusalem H3389 , and reigned H4427 : for H3588 CONJ Rehoboam H7346 was one H259 and forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS old H1121 CMS when he began to reign H4427 , and he reigned H4427 seventeen H7651 years H8141 NFS in Jerusalem H3389 , the city H5892 D-GFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had chosen H977 out of all H3605 M-CMS the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 , to put H7760 L-VQFC his name H8034 CMS-3MS there H8033 ADV . And his mother H517 GFS-3MS \'s name H8034 W-CMS was Naamah H5279 an Ammonitess H5984 .
14 And he did H6213 W-VQY3MS evil H7451 D-AMS , because H3588 CONJ he prepared H3559 not H3808 NADV his heart H3820 CMS-3MS to seek H1875 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
15 Now the acts H1697 of Rehoboam H7346 , first H7223 and last H314 , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NADV written H3789 in the book H1697 of Shemaiah H8098 the prophet H5030 , and of Iddo H5714 the seer H2374 concerning genealogies H3187 ? And there were wars H4421 between Rehoboam H7346 and Jeroboam H3379 continually H3605 NMS .
16 And Rehoboam H7346 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and was buried H6912 in the city H5892 of David H1732 : and Abijah H29 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
