2 Kings 14:1 (WEB) World English Bible

1 In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.
3 He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.
4 However the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
5 It happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had slain the king his father:
6 but the children of the murderers he didn't put to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Yahweh commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.
7 He killed of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, to this day.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
9 Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as wife: and there passed by a wild animal that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.
10 You have indeed struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up: glory of it, and abide at home; for why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?
11 But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
12 Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.
13 Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14 He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
15 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16 Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.
17 Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
19 They made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and killed him there.
20 They brought him on horses; and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21 All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
22 He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years.
24 He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh: he didn't depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin.
25 He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Yahweh, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath Hepher.
26 For Yahweh saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.
27 Yahweh didn't say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under the sky; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29 Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.

4 Howbeit H7535 ADV the high places H1116 were not H3808 NADV taken away H5493 VQQ3MP : as yet H5750 ADV the people H5971 did sacrifice H2076 and burnt incense H6999 on the high places H1116 .
5 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , as soon as H834 K-RPRO the kingdom H4467 was confirmed H2388 in his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS , that he slew H5221 W-VHY3MS his servants H5650 which had slain H5221 the king H4428 D-NMS his father H1 .
6 But the children H1121 NMP of the murderers H5221 he slew H4191 not H3808 NADV : according unto that which is written H3789 in the book H5612 of the law H8451 of Moses H4872 , wherein H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS commanded H6680 VPQ3MS , saying H559 L-VQFC , The fathers H1 shall not H3808 NADV be put to death H4191 for H5921 PREP the children H1121 , nor H3808 NADV the children H1121 NMP be put to death H4191 for H5921 PREP the fathers H1 ; but H518 PART every man H376 NMS shall be put to death H4191 for his own sin H2399 .

8 Then H227 ADV Amaziah H558 sent H7971 VQQ3MS messengers H4397 to H413 PREP Jehoash H3060 , the son H1121 of Jehoahaz H3059 son H1121 of Jehu H3058 , king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Come H1980 VQI2MS-3FS , let us look one another H7200 in the face H6440 .
9 And Jehoash H3060 the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 sent H7971 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Amaziah H558 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , saying H559 L-VQFC , The thistle H2336 that H834 RPRO was in Lebanon H3844 sent H7971 VQQ3MS to H413 PREP the cedar H730 that H834 RPRO was in Lebanon H3844 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Give H5414 thy daughter H1323 to my son H1121 to wife H802 L-NFS : and there passed by H5674 a wild H7704 D-NMS beast H2416 CFS that H834 RPRO was in Lebanon H3844 , and trod down H7429 the thistle H2336 .
10 Thou hast indeed smitten H5221 Edom H123 , and thine heart H3820 CMS-2MS hath lifted thee up H5375 : glory H3513 of this , and tarry H3427 at home H1004 : for why H4100 WL-IGAT shouldest thou meddle H1624 to thy hurt H7451 , that thou shouldest fall H5307 , even thou H859 PPRO-2MS , and Judah H3063 with H5973 PREP-2FS thee ?
11 But Amaziah H558 would not H3808 W-NPAR hear H8085 . Therefore Jehoash H3060 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 went up H5927 W-VHY3MS ; and he H1931 PPRO-3MS and Amaziah H558 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 looked one another H7200 in the face H6440 NMP at Beth H1053 - shemesh , which H834 RPRO belongeth to Judah H3063 .
12 And Judah H3063 was put to the worse H5062 before H6440 L-CMP Israel H3478 ; and they fled H5127 W-VQY3MP every man H376 NMS to their tents H168 .
13 And Jehoash H3060 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 took H8610 Amaziah H558 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , the son H1121 of Jehoash H3060 the son H1121 of Ahaziah H274 , at Beth H1053 - shemesh , and came H935 to Jerusalem H3389 , and broke down H6555 the wall H2346 of Jerusalem H3389 from the gate H8179 of Ephraim H669 unto H5704 PREP the corner H6438 gate H8179 NMS , four H702 MFS hundred H3967 BFP cubits H520 .

16 And Jehoash H3060 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and was buried H6912 in Samaria H8111 with H5973 PREP the kings H4428 CMP of Israel H3478 ; and Jeroboam H3379 his son H1121 CMS-3MS reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
17 And Amaziah H558 the son H1121 CMS of Joash H3101 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 lived H2421 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP the death H4194 of Jehoash H3060 son H1121 CMS of Jehoahaz H3059 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 fifteen H2568 BFS years H8141 NFS .
18 And the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Amaziah H558 , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NADV written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 ?
19 Now they made H7194 a conspiracy H7195 against H5921 PREP-3MS him in Jerusalem H3389 : and he fled H5127 to Lachish H3923 ; but they sent H7971 after H310 him to Lachish H3923 , and slew H4191 him there H8033 ADV .
20 And they brought H5375 W-VQY3MP him on H5921 PREP horses H5483 : and he was buried H6912 at Jerusalem H3389 with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 in the city H5892 of David H1732 .
21 And all H3605 NMS the people H5971 NMS of Judah H3063 took H3947 W-VQY3MP Azariah H5838 , which H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was sixteen H8337 RFS years H8141 NFS old H1121 , and made him king H4427 instead of H8478 NMS his father H1 CMS-3MS Amaziah H558 .
22 He H1931 PPRO-3MS built H1129 VQQ3MS Elath H359 , and restored H7725 it to Judah H3063 , after that H310 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS slept H7901 with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 .
23 In the fifteenth H2568 BFS year H8141 B-CFS of Amaziah H558 the son H1121 CMS of Joash H3101 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 CMS of Joash H3101 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 began to reign H4427 in Samaria H8111 , and reigned forty H705 MMP and one H259 years H8141 B-CFS .
24 And he did H6213 W-VQY3MS that which was evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS : he departed H5493 not H3808 NADV from all H3605 M-CMS the sins H2403 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028 , who H834 RPRO made Israel H3478 LMS to sin H2398 .
25 He H1931 PPRO-3MS restored H7725 VHQ3MS the coast H1366 CMS of Israel H3478 from the entering H935 of Hamath H2574 unto H5704 PREP the sea H3220 NMS of the plain H6160 , according to the word H1697 K-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , which H834 RPRO he spoke H1696 VPQ3MS by the hand H3027 B-CFS of his servant H5650 Jonah H3124 EMS , the son H1121 CMS of Amittai H573 EMS , the prophet H5030 , which H834 RPRO was of Gath H1662 - hepher .
26 For H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS saw H7200 VQQ3MS the affliction H6040 of Israel H3478 , that it was very H3966 ADV bitter H4784 : for there was not any H657 shut up H6113 , nor any H657 left H5800 , nor H369 W-NPAR any helper H5826 VQPMS for Israel H3478 .
27 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H1696 not H3808 W-NPAR that he would blot out H4229 the name H8034 CMS of Israel H3478 from under H8478 M-CFS heaven H8064 D-AMP : but he saved H3467 them by the hand H3027 B-CFS of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Joash H3101 .

29 And Jeroboam H3379 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , even with H5973 PREP the kings H4428 CMP of Israel H3478 ; and Zachariah H2148 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
