Deuteronomy 9:1 (WEB) World English Bible

1 Hear, Israel: you are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,
2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, Who can stand before the sons of Anak?
3 Know therefore this day, that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will bring them down before you: so shall you drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.
4 Don't speak in your heart, after that Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you, saying, For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land; whereas for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh does drive them out from before you.
5 Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
6 Know therefore, that Yahweh your God doesn't give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stiff-necked people.
7 Remember, don't forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.
8 Also in Horeb you provoked Yahweh to wrath, and Yahweh was angry with you to destroy you.
9 When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which Yahweh made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water.
10 Yahweh delivered to me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which Yahweh spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
11 It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Yahweh gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
12 Yahweh said to me, Arise, get you down quickly from hence; for your people whom you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
13 Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people:
14 let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.
15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
16 I looked, and, behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God; you had made you a molten calf: you had turned aside quickly out of the way which Yahweh had commanded you.
17 I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
18 I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.
19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.
20 Yahweh was very angry with Aaron to destroy him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
21 I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast the dust of it into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
22 At Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you provoked Yahweh to wrath.
23 When Yahweh sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God, and you didn't believe him, nor listen to his voice.
24 You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day that I knew you.
25 So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.
26 I prayed to Yahweh, and said, Lord Yahweh, don't destroy your people and your inheritance, that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; don't look to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,
28 lest the land whence you brought us out say, Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.
29 Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.

2 A people H5971 great H1419 AMS and tall H7311 , the children H1121 of the Anakims H6062 , whom H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS knowest H3045 VQQ2MS , and of whom thou H859 PPRO-2FS hast heard H8085 VQQ2MS say , Who H4310 IPRO can stand H3320 before H6440 L-CMP the children H1121 of Anak H6061 !
3 Understand H3045 W-VQY2MS therefore this day H3117 D-AMS , that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS is he H1931 PPRO-3MS which goeth over H5674 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee ; as a consuming H398 fire H784 CMS he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall destroy H8045 them , and he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS shall bring them down H3665 before thy face H6440 L-CMP-2MS : so shalt thou drive them out H3423 , and destroy H6 them quickly H4118 , as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath said H1696 VPQ3MS unto thee .
4 Speak H559 not H408 NPAR thou in thine heart H3824 , after that the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS hath cast them out H1920 from before H6440 thee , saying H559 L-VQFC , For my righteousness H6666 B-CFS-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS hath brought me in H935 to possess H3423 this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS : but for the wickedness H7564 of these H428 D-DPRO-3MP nations H1471 D-NMP the LORD H3068 EDS doth drive them out H3423 from before H6440 thee .
5 Not H3808 NADV for thy righteousness H6666 , or for the uprightness H3476 of thine heart H3824 , dost thou H859 PPRO-2MS go H935 to possess H3423 their land H776 : but H3588 CONJ for the wickedness H7564 of these H428 D-DPRO-3MP nations H1471 D-NMP the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS doth drive them out H3423 from before H6440 M-CMP-2MS thee , and that H4616 he may perform H6965 the word H1697 D-NMS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS swore H7650 unto thy fathers H1 , Abraham H85 , Isaac H3327 , and Jacob H3290 .
6 Understand H3045 W-VQY2MS therefore , that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS giveth H5414 VQPMS thee not H3808 NADV this H2063 D-DFS good H2896 land H776 D-GFS to possess H3423 it for thy righteousness H6666 ; for H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS art a stiffnecked H7186 people H5971 NMS .
7 Remember H2142 VQI2MS , and forget H7911 not H408 NPAR , how H834 RPRO thou provokedst H7107 the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS to wrath in the wilderness H4057 : from H4480 the day H3117 D-AMS that H834 RPRO thou didst depart H3318 out of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 EFS , until H5704 PREP ye came H935 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 D-NMS , ye have been H1961 VQQ2MP rebellious H4784 against H5973 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
8 Also in Horeb H2722 ye provoked H7107 the LORD H3068 EDS to wrath , so that the LORD H3068 EDS was angry H599 with you to have destroyed H8045 you .
9 When I was gone up H5927 into the mount H2022 D-NMS-3FS to receive H3947 L-VQFC the tables H3871 of stone H68 , even the tables H3871 of the covenant H1285 D-NFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS made H3772 with H5973 PREP-3MP you , then I abode H3427 in the mount H2022 forty H705 MMP days H3117 NMS and forty H705 W-MMP nights H3915 GMS , I neither H3808 NADV did eat H398 VQQ1MS bread H3899 NMS nor H3808 NADV drink H8354 water H4325 W-NMD :
10 And the LORD H3068 EDS delivered H5414 W-VQQ3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me two H8147 ONUM tables H3871 of stone H68 written H3789 with the finger H676 of God H430 EDP ; and on H5921 them was written according to all H3605 the words H1697 AMP , which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 VPQ3MS with H5973 PREP-3MP you in the mount H2022 out of the midst H8432 of the fire H784 in the day H3117 B-NMS of the assembly H6951 .
11 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS at the end H7093 M-CMS of forty H705 MMP days H3117 NMS and forty H705 W-MMP nights H3915 NFS , that the LORD H3068 EDS gave H5414 VQQ3MS me the two H8147 ONUM tables H3871 of stone H68 , even the tables H3871 of the covenant H1285 .
12 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , Arise H6965 VQI2MS , get thee down H3381 quickly H4118 from hence H2088 M-DPRO ; for H3588 CONJ thy people H5971 which H834 RPRO thou hast brought forth H3318 out of Egypt H4714 have corrupted H7843 themselves ; they are quickly H4118 turned aside H5493 VQQ3MP out of H4480 PREP the way H1870 D-NMS which H834 RPRO I commanded H6680 them ; they have made H6213 VQQ3MP them a molten image H4541 .
13 Furthermore the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , I have seen H7200 VQQ1MS this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 , and , behold H2009 IJEC , it H1931 PPRO-3MS is a stiffnecked H7186 people H5971 NMS :
14 Let me alone H7503 , that I may destroy H8045 them , and blot out H4229 their name H8034 CMS-3MP from under H8478 M-CFS heaven H8064 D-AMP : and I will make H6213 of thee a nation H1471 L-NMS mightier H6099 and greater H7227 than H4480 M-PREP-3MS they .
15 So I turned H6437 and came down H3381 from H4480 PREP the mount H2022 , and the mount H2022 burned H1197 with fire H784 : and the two H8147 tables H3871 of the covenant H1285 D-NFS were in H5921 PREP my two H8147 ONUM hands H3027 .
16 And I looked H7200 , and , behold H2009 IJEC , ye had sinned H2398 against the LORD H3068 L-EDS your God H430 , and had made H6213 you a molten H4541 calf H5695 : ye had turned aside H5493 quickly H4118 out of H4480 PREP the way H1870 D-NMS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had commanded H6680 VPQ3MS you .
17 And I took H8610 the two H8147 tables H3871 , and cast H7993 them out of M-PREP my two H8147 ONUM hands H3027 , and broke H7665 them before your eyes H5869 .
18 And I fell down H5307 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , as at the first H7223 , forty H705 MMP days H3117 NMS and forty H705 W-MMP nights H3915 GMS : I did neither H3808 NADV eat H398 VQQ1MS bread H3899 NMS , nor H3808 NADV drink H8354 water H4325 W-NMD , because of H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS your sins H2403 which H834 RPRO ye sinned H2398 , in doing H6213 L-VQFC wickedly H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , to provoke him to anger H3707 .
19 For H3588 CONJ I was afraid H3025 VQQ1MS of M-CMP the anger H639 and hot displeasure H2534 , wherewith H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS was wroth H7107 against H5921 PREP-2MP you to destroy H8045 you . But the LORD H3068 EDS hearkened H8085 unto H413 PREP-1MS me at that H1931 time H6471 also H1571 CONJ .
20 And the LORD H3068 EDS was very angry H599 with Aaron H175 to have destroyed H8045 him : and I prayed H6419 for H1157 PREP Aaron H175 also H1571 CONJ the same H1931 time H6256 .
21 And I took H3947 your sin H2403 , the calf H5695 which H834 RPRO ye had made H6213 , and burnt H8313 it with fire H784 , and stamped H3807 it , and ground H2912 it very small H3190 VHFA , even until H5704 PREP it H834 RPRO was as small H1854 as dust H6083 : and I cast H7993 the dust H6083 thereof into H413 PREP the brook H5158 that descended H3381 out of H4480 PREP the mount H2022 .
22 And at Taberah H8404 , and at Massah H4532 , and at Kibroth H6914 - hattaavah , ye provoked H7107 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS to wrath .
23 Likewise when the LORD H3068 EDS sent H7971 you from Kadesh H6947 - barnea , saying H559 L-VQFC , Go up H5927 and possess H3423 the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO I have given H5414 VQQ1MS you ; then ye rebelled against H4784 the commandment H6310 of the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 , and ye believed H539 him not H3808 W-NPAR , nor H3808 W-NPAR hearkened H8085 to his voice H6963 .
24 Ye have been H1961 VQQ2MP rebellious H4784 against H5973 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS from the day H3117 M-NMS that I knew H3045 you .
25 Thus I fell down H5307 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS forty H705 MMP days H3117 D-AMS and forty H705 MMP nights H3915 D-AMS , as H834 RPRO I fell down H5307 at the first ; because H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS had said H559 VQQ3MS he would destroy H8045 you .
26 I prayed H6419 therefore unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , and said H559 W-VQY1MS , O Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 , destroy H7843 not H408 NPAR thy people H5971 and thine inheritance H5159 , which H834 RPRO thou hast redeemed H6299 through thy greatness H1433 , which H834 RPRO thou hast brought forth H3318 out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS with a mighty H2389 hand H3027 .
27 Remember H2142 VQI2MS thy servants H5650 , Abraham H85 , Isaac H3327 , and Jacob H3290 ; look H6437 VQI3MS not H408 NPAR unto H413 PREP the stubbornness H7190 of this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 , nor to H413 PREP their wickedness H7562 , nor to H413 PREP their sin H2403 :
28 Lest H6435 CONJ the land H776 D-GFS whence H834 RPRO thou broughtest us out H3318 say H559 VQY3MP , Because the LORD H3068 EDS was not able H1097 M-NPAR to bring H935 them into H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO he promised H1696 VPQ3MS them , and because he hated H8135 them , he hath brought them out H3318 to slay H4191 them in the wilderness H4057 .
29 Yet they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP are thy people H5971 and thine inheritance H5159 , which H834 RPRO thou broughtest out H3318 by thy mighty H1419 D-AMS power H3581 and by thy stretched out H5186 arm H2220 .
