Romans 11:1 (WEB) World English Bible

1 I ask then, Did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God didn't reject his people, which he foreknew. Or don't you know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel:
3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life."
4 But how does God answer him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal."
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.
7 What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn't obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened.
8 According as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day."
9 David says, "Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, A stumbling block, and a retribution to them.
10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Bow down their back always."
11 I ask then, did they stumble that they might fall? May it never be! But by their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy.
12 Now if their fall is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fullness?
13 For I speak to you who are Gentiles. Since then as I am an apostle to Gentiles, I glorify my ministry;
14 if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh, and may save some of them.
15 For if the rejection of them is the reconciling of the world, what would their acceptance be, but life from the dead?
16 If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches.
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and became partaker with them of the root and of the richness of the olive tree;
18 don't boast over the branches. But if you boast, it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you.
19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in."
20 True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don't be conceited, but fear;
21 for if God didn't spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.
22 See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
23 They also, if they don't continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
24 For if you were cut out of that which is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
25 For I don't desire, brothers, to have you ignorant of this mystery, so that you won't be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in,
26 and so all Israel will be saved. Even as it is written, "There will come out of Zion the Deliverer, And he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
27 This is my covenant to them, When I will take away their sins."
28 Concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But concerning the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sake.
29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
30 For as you in time past were disobedient to God, but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience,
31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that by the mercy shown to you they may also obtain mercy.
32 For God has shut up all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all.
33 Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!
34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?"
35 "Or who has first given to him, And it will be repaid to him again?"
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen.

Wot G1492 V-RAI-2P ye not G3756 PRT-N what G5101 I-ASN the G3588 T-NSF Scripture G1124 N-NSF saith G3004 V-PAI-3S of G1722 PREP Elijah G2243 N-DSM ? how G5613 ADV he G3588 T-DSM maketh intercession G1793 V-PAI-3S to God G2316 N-DSM against G2596 PREP Israel G2474 N-PRI , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM ,
3 Lord G2962 N-VSM , they have killed G615 V-AAI-3P thy G3588 T-APM prophets G4396 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ digged down G2679 V-AAI-3P thine G3588 T-APN altars G2379 N-APN ; and I G2504 P-1NS-C am left G5275 V-API-1S alone G3441 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ they seek G2212 V-PAI-3P my G3588 T-ASF life G5590 N-ASF .
4 But G235 CONJ what G5101 I-ASN saith G3004 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-NSM answer of God G5538 N-NSM unto him G846 P-DSM ? I have reserved G2641 V-2AAI-1S to myself G1683 F-1DSM seven thousand G2035 A-APM men G435 N-APM , who G3748 R-NPM have not G3756 PRT-N bowed G2578 V-AAI-3P the G3588 T-DSF knee G1119 N-ASN to the image of Baal G896 N-PRI .
5 Even so G3779 ADV then G3767 CONJ at G1722 PREP this present G3568 ADV time G2540 N-DSM also G2532 CONJ there is G1096 V-2RAI-3S a remnant G3005 N-NSN according G2596 PREP to the election G1589 N-ASF of grace G5485 N-GSF .
6 And G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND by grace G5485 N-DSF , then is it no more G3765 ADV of G1537 PREP works G2041 N-GPN : otherwise G1893 CONJ grace G5485 N-NSF is G1096 V-PNI-3S no more G3765 ADV grace G5485 N-NSF . But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND it be of G1537 PREP works G2041 N-GPN , then is G2076 V-PXI-3S it no more G3765 ADV grace G5485 N-NSF : otherwise G1893 CONJ work G2041 N-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S no more G3765 ADV work G2041 N-NSN .
7 What G5101 I-NSN then G3767 CONJ ? Israel G2474 N-PRI hath G5127 not G3756 PRT-N obtained G2013 V-2AAI-3S that which G3739 R-ASN he G3588 T-NSF seeketh for G3588 T-NSF ; but G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF election G1589 N-NSF hath obtained G2013 V-2AAI-3S it , and G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM rest G3062 A-NPM were blinded G4456 V-API-3P .
8 (According as G2531 ADV it G3588 T-NSM is written G1125 V-RPI-3S , God G2316 N-NSM hath given G1325 V-AAI-3S them G846 P-DPM the spirit G4151 N-ASN of slumber G2659 N-GSF , eyes G3788 N-APM that they should not G3361 PRT-N see G991 V-PAN , and G2532 CONJ ears G3775 N-APN that they should not G3361 PRT-N hear G191 V-PAN ; ) unto G2193 CONJ this G4594 ADV day G2250 N-GSF .
9 And G2532 CONJ David G1138 N-PRI saith G3004 V-PAI-3S , Let their G3588 T-NSF table G5132 N-NSF be made G1096 V-AOM-3S a G1519 PREP snare G3803 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ a G1519 PREP trap G2339 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ a G1519 PREP stumblingblock G4625 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ a G1519 PREP recompense G468 N-ASN unto them G846 P-GPM :
10 Let their G3588 T-NPM eyes G3788 N-NPM be darkened G4654 V-APM-3P , that they may not G3361 PRT-N see G991 V-PAN , and G2532 CONJ bow down G4781 V-AAM-2S their G3588 T-ASM back G3577 N-ASM always G1275 ADV .
11 I say G3004 V-PAI-1S then G3767 CONJ , Have they G3361 PRT-N stumbled G4417 V-AAI-3P that G2443 CONJ they should fall G4098 V-2AAS-3P ? God forbid G1096 V-2ADO-3S : but G235 CONJ rather through their G848 fall G3900 N-DSN salvation G4991 N-NSF is come unto the G3588 T-DPN Gentiles G1484 N-DPN , for to provoke them to jealousy G3863 V-AAN .
12 Now G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSN fall G3900 N-NSN of them G848 be the riches G4149 N-NSN of the world G2889 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN diminishing G2275 N-NSN of them G848 the riches G4149 N-NSN of the Gentiles G1484 N-GPN ; how much G4214 Q-DSN more G3123 ADV their G3588 T-NSN fullness G4138 N-NSN ?
13 For G1063 CONJ I speak G3004 V-PAI-1S to you G3588 T-DPN Gentiles G1484 N-DPN , inasmuch as PREP I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S the apostle G652 N-NSM of the Gentiles G1484 N-GPN , I magnify G1392 V-PAI-1S mine G3588 T-ASF office G1248 N-ASF :
14 If by any means G1513 I may provoke to emulation G3863 V-AAS-1S them G3588 T-ASF which G3588 T-ASF are my G3588 T-ASF flesh G4561 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ might save G4982 V-AAS-1S some G5100 X-APM of G1537 PREP them G846 P-GPM .
15 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSF casting away G580 N-NSF of them G846 P-GPM be the reconciling G2643 N-NSF of the world G2889 N-GSM , what G5101 I-NSF shall the G3588 T-NSF receiving G4356 N-NSF of them be , but G1508 life G2222 N-NSF from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM ?
16 For G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSF firstfruit G536 N-NSF be holy G40 A-NSF , the G3588 T-NSN lump G5445 N-NSN is also G2532 CONJ holy : and G2532 CONJ if G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSF root G4491 N-NSF be holy G40 A-NSF , so G2532 CONJ are the G3588 T-NPM branches G2798 N-NPM .
17 And G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND some G5100 X-NPM of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM branches G2798 N-GPM be broken off G1575 V-API-3P , and G1161 CONJ thou G4771 P-2NS , being G5607 V-PXP-NSM a wild olive tree G65 N-NSF , wert grafted in G1461 V-API-2S among G1722 PREP them G846 P-DPM , and G2532 CONJ with them G1096 V-2ADI-2S partakest G4791 A-NSM of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF root G4491 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ fatness G4096 N-GSF of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF olive tree G1636 N-GSF ;
18 Boast not against G2620 V-PNM-2S the G3588 T-GPM branches G2798 N-GPM . But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND thou boast G2620 V-PNI-2S , thou G4771 P-2NS bearest G941 V-PAI-2S not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-ASF root G4491 N-ASF , but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF root G4491 N-NSF thee G4571 P-2AS .
19 Thou wilt say G2046 V-FAI-2S then G3767 CONJ , The G3588 branches G2798 N-NPM were broken off G1575 V-API-3P , that G2443 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS might be grafted in G1461 V-APS-1S .
20 Well G2573 ADV ; because of unbelief G570 N-DSF they were broken off G1575 V-API-3P , and G1161 CONJ thou G4771 P-2NS standest G2476 V-RAI-2S by faith G4102 N-DSF . Be not highminded G5309 V-PAM-2S , but G235 CONJ fear G5399 V-PNM-2S :
21 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND God G2316 N-NSM spared G5339 V-ADI-3S not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-GPM natural G2596 PREP branches G2798 N-GPM , take heed lest G3381 CONJ he also spare G5339 V-ADI-3S not G3761 ADV thee G4675 P-2GS .
22 Behold G1492 V-AAM-2S therefore G3767 CONJ the goodness G5544 N-ASF and G2532 CONJ severity G663 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM : on PREP them which fell G4098 V-2AAP-APM , severity G663 N-ASF ; but G1161 CONJ toward G1909 PREP thee G4571 P-2AS , goodness G5544 N-ASF , if G1437 COND thou continue in G1961 V-AAS-3S his goodness G5544 N-DSF : otherwise G1893 CONJ thou G4771 P-2NS also G2532 CONJ shalt be cut off G1581 V-2FPI-2S .
23 And G1161 CONJ they G1565 D-NPM also G2532 CONJ , if they G3588 T-DSF abide not G3362 still in unbelief G570 N-DSF , shall be grafted in G1461 V-FPI-3P : for G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S able G1415 A-NSM to graft them in V-AAN again G3825 ADV .
24 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND thou G4771 P-2NS wert cut G1581 V-2API-2S out G1537 PREP of the G3588 T-GSF olive tree which G3588 T-GSF is wild G65 N-GSF by G2596 PREP nature G5449 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ wert grafted G1461 V-API-2S contrary G3844 PREP to nature G5449 N-ASF into G1519 PREP a good olive tree G2565 N-ASF : how much G4214 Q-DSN more G3123 ADV shall these G3778 D-NPM , which G3588 T-NPM be the natural G2596 PREP branches , be grafted into G1461 V-FPI-3P their own G2398 A-DSF olive tree G1636 N-DSF ?
25 For G1063 CONJ I would G2309 V-PAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N , brethren G80 N-VPM , that ye G5209 P-2AP should be ignorant G50 V-PAN of G3588 T-ASN this G3588 T-ASN mystery G3466 N-ASN , lest G3363 ye should be G5600 V-PXS-2P wise G5429 A-NPM in G3844 PREP your own conceits G1438 F-3DPM ; that G3754 CONJ blindness G4457 N-NSF in G575 PREP part G3313 N-GSN is happened G1096 V-2RAI-3S to Israel G2474 N-PRI , until G891 PREP the G3588 T-NSN fullness G4138 N-NSN of G3588 T-GPN the G3588 T-GPN Gentiles G1484 N-GPN be come in G1525 V-2AAS-3S .
26 And G2532 CONJ so G3779 ADV all G3956 A-NSM Israel G2474 N-PRI shall be saved G4982 V-FPI-3S : as G2531 ADV it is written G1125 V-RPI-3S , There shall come G2240 V-FAI-3S out of G1537 PREP Zion G4622 N-PRI the G3588 T-NSM Deliverer G4506 V-PNP-NSM , and G2532 CONJ shall turn away G654 V-FAI-3S ungodliness G763 N-APF from G575 PREP Jacob G2384 N-PRI :
27 For G2532 CONJ this G3778 D-NSF is PREP my G1700 P-1GS covenant G1242 N-NSF unto them G846 P-DPM , when G3752 CONJ I shall take away G851 V-2AMS-1S their G3588 T-APF sins G266 N-APF .
28 As concerning G2596 PREP the G3588 T-ASN gospel G2098 N-ASN , they are enemies G2190 A-NPM for your sakes G1223 PREP : but G1161 CONJ as touching G2596 PREP the G3588 T-ASF election G1589 N-ASF , they are beloved G27 A-NPM for the fathers\' sakes G1223 PREP .
29 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN gifts G5486 N-NPN and G2532 CONJ calling G2821 N-NSF of God G2316 N-GSM are without repentance G278 A-NPN .
30 For G1063 CONJ as G5618 ADV ye G5210 P-2NP in times past G4218 PRT have G2532 CONJ not believed G544 V-AAI-2P God G2316 N-DSM , yet G1161 CONJ have now G3568 ADV obtained mercy G1653 V-API-2P through their G5130 D-GPM unbelief G543 N-DSF :
31 Even so G3779 ADV have these G3778 D-NPM also G2532 CONJ now G3568 ADV not believed G544 V-AAI-3P , that G3588 T-DSN through your G5212 S-2DPM mercy G1656 N-DSN they G846 P-NPM also G2532 CONJ may obtain mercy G1653 V-APS-3P .
32 For G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM hath concluded G4788 V-AAI-3S them all G3956 A-APM in G1519 PREP unbelief G543 N-ASF , that G2443 CONJ he G3588 T-APM might have mercy G1653 V-AAS-3S upon all G3956 A-APM .
33 O G5599 INJ the depth G899 N-NSN of the riches G4149 N-GSM both G2532 CONJ of the wisdom G4678 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ knowledge G1108 N-GSF of God G2316 N-GSM ! how G5613 ADV unsearchable G419 A-NPN are his G3588 T-NPN judgments G2917 N-NPN , and G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NPF ways G3598 N-NPF past finding out G421 A-NPF !
34 For G1063 CONJ who G5101 I-NSM hath known G1097 V-2AAI-3S the mind G3563 N-ASM of the Lord G2962 N-GSM ? or G2228 PRT who G5101 I-NSM hath been G1096 V-2ADI-3S his G848 counselor G4825 N-NSM ?
35 Or G2228 PRT who G5101 I-NSM hath first given G4272 V-AAI-3S to him G846 P-DSM , and G2532 CONJ it shall be recompensed G467 V-FPI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM again ?
36 For G3754 CONJ of G1537 PREP him G846 P-GSM , and G2532 CONJ through G1223 PREP him G846 P-GSM , and G2532 CONJ to G1519 PREP him G846 P-ASM , are all things G3956 A-NPN : to whom G3588 T-NSF be glory G1391 N-NSF forever G1519 PREP . Amen G281 HEB .
