1 Samuel 22:1 (MKJV) Modern King James Version

1 And David left there and escaped to the cave Adullam. And his brothers and all his father's house heard, and went down to him there.
2 And every man in distress, and every man who had a creditor, and every man bitter of soul, gathered themselves to him. And he became commander over them. And about four hundred men were with him.
3 And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, Please let my father and my mother come forth and be with you until I know what God will do for me.
4 And he brought them before the king of Moab. And they lived with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.
5 And the prophet Gad said to David, Do not stay in the stronghold. Leave and go into the land of Judah. And David left and came into the forest of Hareth.
6 And Saul heard that David and the men with him had been discovered. And Saul was staying in Gibeah under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand. And all his servants were standing about him.
7 And Saul said to his servants standing by him, Now hear, Benjamites, will the son of Jesse give to any of you fields and vineyards, and make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds?
8 But all of you have conspired against me, and none of you was revealing in my ear when my son cut a covenant with the son of Jesse? And not one of you is sorry for me, even to reveal in my ear that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as today.
9 And answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
10 And he asked of Jehovah for him and gave him food and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.
11 And the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests in Nob. And they came, all of them, to the king.
12 And Saul said, Hear now, you son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.
13 And Saul said to him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have asked of God for him, that he should rise against me to lie in wait, as at this day?
14 And Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who is so faithful among all your servants as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and who goes at your bidding, and who is honorable in your house?
15 Have I today begun to ask of God for him? Be it far from me. Do not let the king charge a thing to his servant, nor to all the house of my father. For your servant knew nothing of all this, more or less.
16 And the king said, Ahimelech, you shall surely die, you and all your father's house.
17 And the king said to the guard that stood around him, Turn and kill the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not reveal it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall on the priests of Jehovah.
18 And the king said to Doeg, You turn and fall on the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned and fell on the priests. And on that day he killed eighty-five persons who wore a linen ephod.
19 And he struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and babes, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
20 And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.
21 And Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Jehovah's priests.
22 And David said to Abiathar, I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have caused the death of all the persons of your father's house.
23 Stay with me, and do not fear. For he who seeks my life seeks your life. But you shall be in safekeeping with me.

2 And every H3605 NMS one H376 NMS that was in distress H4689 , and every H3605 NMS one H376 NMS that H834 RPRO was in debt H5378 , and every H3605 NMS one H376 NMS that was discontented H4751 AMS , gathered themselves H6908 unto H413 PREP-3MS him ; and he became H1961 W-VQY3MS a captain H8269 over H5921 PREP-3MP them : and there were H1961 W-VQY3MP with H5973 PREP-3MS him about four H702 hundred H3967 BFP men H376 NMS .
3 And David H1732 MMS went H1980 W-VQY3MS thence H8033 M-ADV to Mizpeh H4708 of Moab H4124 : and he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the king H4428 NMS of Moab H4124 , Let my father H1 CMS-1MS and my mother H517 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , come forth H3318 VQY3MS , and be with H854 PART-2MP you , till H5704 PREP I know H3045 VQY1MS what H4100 IPRO God H430 NAME-4MP will do H6213 for me .
4 And he brought H5148 them before H6440 CMP the king H4428 NMS of Moab H4124 : and they dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MP with H5973 PREP-3MS him all H3605 NMS the while H3117 CMP that David H1732 MMS was H1961 VQFC in the hold H4686 .
5 And the prophet H5030 Gad H1410 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP David H1732 MMS , Abide H3427 not H3808 NADV in the hold H4686 ; depart H1980 VQI2MS , and get H935 thee into the land H776 GFS of Judah H3063 . Then David H1732 MMS departed H1980 W-VQY3MS , and came H935 W-VQY3MS into the forest H3293 of Hareth H2802 .
6 When Saul H7586 heard H8085 that H3588 CONJ David H1732 MMS was discovered H3045 , and the men H376 that H834 RPRO were with H854 PREP-3MS him , (now Saul H7586 abode H3427 VQPMS in Gibeah H1390 under H8478 PREP a tree H815 in Ramah H7414 , having his spear H2595 in his hand H3027 , and all H3605 W-CMS his servants H5650 were standing H5324 about H5921 him ; )
7 Then Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto his servants H5650 that stood H5324 about H5921 PREP-3MS him , Hear H8085 VQI2MP now H4994 IJEC , ye Benjamites H1145 ; will the son H1121 of Jesse H3448 give H5414 VHFA every one H3605 of you fields H7704 and vineyards H3754 , and make H7760 VQY3MS you all H3605 captains H8269 CMP of thousands H505 MMP , and captains H8269 of hundreds H3967 ;

9 Then answered H6030 W-VQY3MS Doeg H1673 the Edomite H130 , which H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was set H5324 over H5921 PREP the servants H5650 of Saul H7586 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , I saw H7200 VQQ1MS the son H1121 of Jesse H3448 coming H935 VQPMS to Nob H5011 , to H413 PREP Ahimelech H288 the son H1121 of Ahitub H285 .
10 And he inquired H7592 W-VQY3MS of the LORD H3068 for him , and gave H5414 VQQ3MS him victuals H6720 , and gave H5414 VQQ3MS him the sword H2719 GFS of Goliath H1555 the Philistine H6430 .
11 Then the king H4428 D-NMS sent H7971 W-VQY3MS to call H7121 Ahimelech H288 the priest H3548 , the son H1121 of Ahitub H285 , and all H3605 NMS his father H1 CMS-3MS \'s house H1004 CMS , the priests H3548 that H834 RPRO were in Nob H5011 : and they came H935 W-VQY3MP all H3605 NMS of them to H413 PREP the king H4428 .
12 And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Hear H8085 VQI2MS now H4994 IJEC , thou son H1121 of Ahitub H285 . And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 I am , my lord H113 .
13 And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 him , Why H4100 L-IPRO have ye conspired H7194 against H5921 PREP-1MS me , thou H859 PPRO-2MS and the son H1121 W-CMS of Jesse H3448 , in that thou hast given H5414 him bread H3899 NMS , and a sword H2719 , and hast inquired H7592 of God H430 B-NMP for him , that he should rise H6965 against H413 PREP-1MS me , to lie in wait H693 , as at this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 ?
14 Then Ahimelech H288 answered H6030 W-VQY3MS the king H4428 D-NMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , And who H4310 W-IPRO is so faithful H539 among all H3605 thy servants H5650 as David H1732 , which is the king H4428 D-NMS \'s son H2860 - in - law , and goeth H5493 W-VQPMS at H413 PREP thy bidding H4928 , and is honorable H3513 in thine house H1004 ?
15 Did I then H3117 D-AMS begin H2490 to inquire H7592 of God H430 for him ? be it far H2486 IJEC-3FS from me : let not H408 NPAR the king H4428 D-NMS impute H7760 VQI3MS any thing H1697 NMS unto his servant H5650 , nor to all H3605 B-CMS the house H1004 CMS of my father H1 CMS-1MS : for H3588 CONJ thy servant H5650 knew H3045 VQQ3MS nothing H3808 ADV of all H3605 B-CMS this H2063 DPRO , less H6996 AMS or H176 CONJ more H1419 .
16 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thou shalt surely die H4191 VQFA , Ahimelech H288 , thou H859 PPRO-2MS , and all H3605 W-CMS thy father H1 \'s house H1004 CMS .
17 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto the footmen H7323 that stood H5324 about H5921 PREP-3MS him , Turn H5437 , and slay H4191 the priests H3548 of the LORD H3068 EDS ; because H3588 CONJ their hand H3027 also H1571 CONJ is with H5973 PREP David H1732 MMS , and because H3588 CONJ they knew H3045 when H3588 CONJ he H1931 PPRO-3MS fled H1272 VQPMS , and did not H3808 W-NPAR show H1540 it to me H241 . But the servants H5650 of the king H4428 D-NMS would H14 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR put forth their hand H3027 to fall H6293 upon the priests H3548 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
18 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS to Doeg H1673 , Turn H5437 thou H859 PPRO-2MS , and fall H6293 upon the priests H3548 . And Doeg H1673 the Edomite H130 turned H5437 , and he H1931 PPRO-3MS fell H6293 upon the priests H3548 , and slew H4191 on that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS fourscore H8084 and five H2568 persons H376 NMS that did wear H5375 a linen H906 ephod H646 .
19 And Nob H5011 , the city H5892 GFS of the priests H3548 , smote H5221 he with the edge H6310 L-CMS of the sword H2719 GFS , both men H376 M-NMS and women H802 NFS , children H5768 and sucklings H3243 , and oxen H7794 , and asses H2543 , and sheep H7716 , with the edge H6310 L-CMS of the sword H2719 GFS .
20 And one H259 MMS of the sons H1121 NMS of Ahimelech H288 the son H1121 NMS of Ahitub H285 , named H8034 Abiathar H54 , escaped H4422 , and fled H1272 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP David H1732 .
21 And Abiathar H54 showed H5046 W-VHY3MS David H1732 L-NAME that H3588 CONJ Saul H7586 had slain H2026 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS \'s priests H3548 .
22 And David H1732 MMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Abiathar H54 , I knew H3045 VQY1MS it that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , when H3588 CONJ Doeg H1673 the Edomite H130 was there H8033 ADV , that H3588 CONJ he would surely tell H5046 VHI2MS Saul H7586 : I H595 PPRO-1MS have occasioned H5437 the death of all H3605 B-CMS the persons H5315 GFS of thy father H1 \'s house H1004 CMS .
23 Abide H3427 thou with H854 PREP-1MS me , fear H3372 not H408 NPAR : for H3588 CONJ he that H834 RPRO seeketh H1245 my life H5315 CFS-1MS seeketh H1245 thy life H5315 : but H3588 CONJ with H5973 me thou H859 PPRO-2MS shalt be in safeguard H4931 .
