1 Samuel 3:1 (MKJV) Modern King James Version

1 And the child Samuel served Jehovah before Eli. And the Word of Jehovah was rare in those days. There was no open vision.
2 And it happened at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, and his eyes began to become dim so that he could not see.
3 And the lamp of God had not gone out. And Samuel was lying down in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was.
4 And Jehovah called Samuel. And he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran to Eli, and said, Here am I. For you called me. And he said, I did not call. Go and lie down again. And he went to lie down.
6 And Jehovah called again, Samuel! And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, Here am I, for you called me. And he answered, I did not call, my son. Go back, lie down.
7 And Samuel did not yet know Jehovah, and the Word of Jehovah had not yet been revealed to him.
8 And Jehovah called Samuel again, the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, Here am I, for you called me. And Eli saw that Jehovah had called the child.
9 And Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and it shall be, if One calls you, you shall say, Speak, Jehovah, for Your servant hears. And Samuel went to lie down in his place.
10 And Jehovah came and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel! Then Samuel answered, Speak, for Your servant hears.
11 And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle.
12 In that day I will confirm to Eli all that which I have spoken as to his house, beginning and making an end.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile and he did not restrain them.
14 And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering forever.
15 And Samuel lay until morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.
16 And Eli called Samuel and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
17 And he said, What is the word which He has said to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide a thing from me of all the words that He said to you.
18 And Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is Jehovah; let Him do what seems good to Him.
19 And Samuel grew, and Jehovah was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 And all Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Jehovah.
21 And Jehovah appeared again in Shiloh. For Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the Word of Jehovah.
1 And the child H5288 Samuel H8050 ministered H8334 unto the LORD H3068 EDS before H6440 L-CMP Eli H5941 . And the word H1697 W-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS was H1961 VQQ3MS precious H3368 AMS in those H1992 D-PPRO-3MP days H3117 BD-NMP ; there was no H369 NPAR open H6555 vision H2377 .
2 And it came to pass H1961 W-VPY3MS at that time H3117 B-AMS , when H1931 D-PPRO-3MS Eli H5941 was laid down H7901 in his place H4725 , and his eyes H5869 began H2490 to wax dim H3544 , that he could H3201 VQY3MS not H3808 NADV see H7200 ;
3 And ere H2962 ADV the lamp H5216 of God H430 EDP went out H3518 in the temple H1964 of the LORD H3068 EDS , where H834 RPRO the ark H727 of God H430 NAME-4MP was , and Samuel H8050 was laid down H7901 to sleep ;
4 That the LORD H3068 EDS called H7121 W-VQY3MS Samuel H8050 : and he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 am I .
5 And he ran H7323 unto H413 PREP Eli H5941 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 am I ; for H3588 CONJ thou calledst H7121 me . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I called H7121 VQQ1CS not H3808 ADV ; lie down H7901 again H7725 VQFC . And he went H1980 W-VQY3MS and lay down H7901 .
6 And the LORD H3068 EDS called H7121 yet H5750 ADV again H3254 W-VHPMS , Samuel H8050 . And Samuel H8050 arose H6965 W-VQY3MS and went H1980 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Eli H5941 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 am I ; for H3588 CONJ thou didst call H7121 me . And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , I called H7121 VQQ1CS not H3808 ADV , my son H1121 ; lie down H7901 again H7725 VQFC .
7 Now Samuel H8050 did not yet H2962 ADV know H3045 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , neither was the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS yet H2962 revealed H1540 unto H413 PREP-3MS him .
8 And the LORD H3068 EDS called H7121 Samuel H8050 again H3254 W-VHPMS the third H7992 time . And he arose H6965 W-VQY3MS and went H1980 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Eli H5941 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 am I ; for H3588 CONJ thou didst call H7121 me . And Eli H5941 perceived H995 that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS had called H7121 VQPMS the child H5288 .
9 Therefore Eli H5941 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Samuel H8050 , Go H1980 VQI2MS , lie down H7901 : and it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS , if H518 PART he call H7121 VQY3MS thee , that thou shalt say H559 W-VQY3MS , Speak H1696 VPFC , LORD H3068 EDS ; for H3588 CONJ thy servant H5650 heareth H8085 . So Samuel H8050 went H1980 W-VQY3MS and lay down H7901 W-VQY3MS in his place H4725 .
10 And the LORD H3068 EDS came H935 W-VQY3MS , and stood H3320 , and called H7121 W-VQY3MS as at other times H6471 , Samuel H8050 , Samuel H8050 . Then Samuel H8050 answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Speak H1696 VPFC ; for H3588 CONJ thy servant H5650 heareth H8085 .
11 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Samuel H8050 , Behold H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS will do H6213 VQPMS a thing H1697 NMS in Israel H3478 , at which H834 RPRO both H8147 ONUM the ears H241 of every one H3605 NMS that heareth H8085 it shall tingle H6750 .
12 In that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS I will perform H6965 against H413 PREP Eli H5941 all H3605 NMS things which H834 RPRO I have spoken H1696 VPQ1MS concerning H413 PREP his house H1004 NMS-3MS : when I begin H2490 , I will also make an end H3615 .
13 For I have told H5046 him that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS will judge H8199 his house H1004 NMS-3MS forever H5704 PREP for the iniquity H5771 which H834 RPRO he knoweth H3045 VQQ3MS ; because H3588 CONJ his sons H1121 CMP-3MS made themselves vile H7043 , and he restrained H3543 them not H3808 W-NPAR .
14 And therefore H3651 I have sworn H7650 unto the house H1004 of Eli H5941 , that the iniquity H5771 of Eli H5941 \'s house H1004 CMS shall not H518 PART be purged H3722 with sacrifice H2077 nor offering H4503 forever H5704 PREP .
15 And Samuel H8050 lay H7901 W-VQY3MS until H5704 PREP the morning H1242 , and opened H6605 W-VQY3MS the doors H1817 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS . And Samuel H8050 feared H3372 VQQ3MS to show H5046 Eli H5941 the vision H4759 .
16 Then Eli H5941 called H7121 W-VQY3MS Samuel H8050 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Samuel H8050 , my son H1121 NMS-1MS . And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 am I .
17 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IGAT is the thing H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO the LORD hath said H1696 VPQ3MS unto H413 PREP-2MS thee ? I pray thee H4994 IJEC hide H3582 it not H408 NPAR from H4480 M-PREP-1MS me : God H430 EDP do H6213 VQY3MS so H3541 to thee , and more H3254 also H3541 , if H518 PART thou hide H3582 any thing H1697 VQPMS from H4480 M-PREP-1MS me of all H3605 M-CMS the things H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO he said H1696 VPQ3MS unto H413 thee .
18 And Samuel H8050 told H5046 him every H3605 NMS whit H1697 AMP , and hid H3582 nothing H3808 W-NPAR from H4480 M-PREP-3MS him . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , It H1931 PPRO-3MS is the LORD H3068 EDS : let him do H6213 VQY3MS what seemeth H5869 him good H2896 D-NMS .
19 And Samuel H8050 grew H1431 , and the LORD H3068 W-EDS was H1961 VQQ3MS with H5973 PREP-3MS him , and did let none H3808 W-NPAR of his words H1697 CMP-3MS fall H5307 to the ground H776 NFS-3FS .
20 And all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 from Dan H1835 even to H5704 W-PREP Beer H884 - sheba knew H3045 W-VQY3MS that H3588 CONJ Samuel H8050 was established H539 to be a prophet H5030 of the LORD H3068 .
21 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 again H3254 W-VHPMS in Shiloh H7887 : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS revealed himself H1540 to H413 PREP Samuel H8050 in Shiloh H7887 by the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
