1. The law is only an unclear picture of the good things coming in the future; it is not the real thing. The people under the law offer the same sacrifices every year, but these sacrifices can never make perfect those who come near to worship God.
|
1. For G1063 the G3588 law G3551 having G2192 a shadow G4639 of good things G18 to come G3195 , and not G3756 the G3588 very G846 image G1504 of the G3588 things G4229 , can G1410 never G3763 with those G846 sacrifices G2378 which G3739 they offered G4374 year by year G2596 G1763 continually G1519 G1336 make the comers thereunto perfect G5048 G3588 G4334 .

2. If the law could make them perfect, the sacrifices would have already stopped. The worshipers would be made clean, and they would no longer have a sense of sin.
|
2. For then G1893 would they not G3756 have ceased G3973 G302 to be offered G4374 ? because that the G3588 worshipers G3000 once G530 purged G2508 should have had G2192 no more G2089 G3367 conscience G4893 of sins G266 .
|
|
3. But these sacrifices remind them of their sins every year,
|
3. But G235 in G1722 those G846 sacrifices there is a remembrance again G364 made of sins G266 every year G2596 G1763 .
|
|
4. because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
|
4. For G1063 it is not possible G102 that the blood G129 of bulls G5022 and G2532 of goats G5131 should take away G851 sins G266 .
|
|
5. So when Christ came into the world, he said: "You do not want sacrifices and offerings, but you have prepared a body for me.
|
5. Wherefore G1352 when he cometh G1525 into G1519 the G3588 world G2889 , he saith G3004 , Sacrifice G2378 and G2532 offering G4376 thou wouldest G2309 not G3756 , but G1161 a body G4983 hast thou prepared G2675 me G3427 :

6. You do not ask for burnt offerings and offerings to take away sins.
|
6. In burnt offerings G3646 and G2532 sacrifices for G4012 sin G266 thou hast had no pleasure G2106 G3756 .

|
7. Then I said, 'Look, I have come. It is written about me in the book. God, I have come to do what you want.'"
|

8. In this Scripture he first said, "You do not want sacrifices and offerings. You do not ask for burnt offerings and offerings to take away sins." (These are all sacrifices that the law commands.)

9. Then he said, "Look, I have come to do what you want." God ends the first system of sacrifices so he can set up the new system.

10. And because of this, we are made holy through the sacrifice Christ made in his body once and for all time.

10. By G1722 the which G3739 will G2307 we are G2070 sanctified G37 through G1223 the G3588 offering G4376 of the G3588 body G4983 of Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 once G2178 for all.

11. Every day the priests stand and do their religious service, often offering the same sacrifices. Those sacrifices can never take away sins.
|
11. And G2532 every G3956 G3303 priest G2409 standeth G2476 daily G2596 G2250 ministering G3008 and G2532 offering G4374 oftentimes G4178 the G3588 same G846 sacrifices G2378 , which G3748 can G1410 never G3763 take away G4014 sins G266 :

12. But after Christ offered one sacrifice for sins, forever, he sat down at the right side of God.
|

13. And now Christ waits there for his enemies to be put under his power.

14. With one sacrifice he made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
|

15. The Holy Spirit also tells us about this. First he says:

15. Whereof G1161 the G3588 Holy G40 Ghost G4151 also G2532 is a witness G3140 to us G2254 : for G1063 after G3326 that he had said before G4280 ,
|
|
16. "This is the agreementn I will make with them at that time, says the Lord. I will put my teachings in their hearts and write them on their minds."
|

This G3778 is the G3588 covenant G1242 that G3739 I will make G1303 with G4314 them G846 after G3326 those G1565 days G2250 , saith G3004 the Lord G2962 , I will put G1325 my G3450 laws G3551 into G1909 their G846 hearts G2588 , and G2532 in G1909 their G846 minds G1271 will I write G1924 them G846 ;

17. Then he says: "Their sins and the evil things they do -- I will not remember anymore."

18. Now when these have been forgiven, there is no more need for a sacrifice for sins.
|

19. So, brothers and sisters, we are completely free to enter the Most Holy Place without fear because of the blood of Jesus' death.
|

20. We can enter through a new and living way that Jesus opened for us. It leads through the curtain -- Christ's body.
|
20. By a new G4372 and G2532 living G2198 way G3598 , which G3739 he hath consecrated G1457 for us G2254 , through G1223 the G3588 veil G2665 , that is to say G5123 , his G848 flesh G4561 ;

21. And since we have a great priest over God's house,
|
21. And G2532 having a high G3173 priest G2409 over G1909 the G3588 house G3624 of God G2316 ;
|
|
22. let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, because we have been made free from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
|
22. Let us draw near G4334 with G3326 a true G228 heart G2588 in G1722 full assurance G4136 of faith G4102 , having our hearts G2588 sprinkled G4472 from G575 an evil G4190 conscience G4893 , and G2532 our bodies G4983 washed G3068 with pure G2513 water G5204 .

23. Let us hold firmly to the hope that we have confessed, because we can trust God to do what he promised.
|
23. Let us hold fast G2722 the G3588 profession G3671 of our faith G1680 without wavering G186 ; ( for G1063 he is faithful G4103 that promised G1861 ;)

24. Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds.
|
24. And G2532 let us consider G2657 one another G240 to provoke unto G1519 G3948 love G26 and G2532 to good G2570 works G2041 :

25. You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the dayn coming.
|
25. Not G3361 forsaking G1459 the G3588 assembling of ourselves together G1997 G1438 , as G2531 the manner G1485 of some G5100 is ; but G235 exhorting G3870 one another : and G2532 so much G5118 the more G3123 , as G3745 ye see G991 the G3588 day G2250 approaching G1448 .

26. If we decide to go on sinning after we have learned the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins.
|
26. For G1063 if we G2257 sin G264 willfully G1596 after that we have received G2983 the G3588 knowledge G1922 of the G3588 truth G225 , there remaineth G620 no more G3765 sacrifice G2378 for G4012 sins G266 ,

27. There is nothing but fear in waiting for the judgment and the terrible fire that will destroy all those who live against God.
|
27. But G1161 a certain G5100 fearful G5398 looking for G1561 of judgment G2920 and G2532 fiery G4442 indignation G2205 , which shall G3195 devour G2068 the G3588 adversaries G5227 .

28. Anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was found guilty from the proof given by two or three witnesses. He was put to death without mercy.

29. So what do you think should be done to those who do not respect the Son of God, who look at the blood of the agreement that made them holy as no different from others' blood, who insult the Spirit of God's grace? Surely they should have a much worse punishment.

29. 30. We know that God said, "I will punish those who do wrong; I will repay them." And he also said, "The Lord will judge his people."

31. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
|

32. Remember those days in the past when you first learned the truth. You had a hard struggle with many sufferings, but you continued strong.
|
32. But G1161 call to remembrance G363 the G3588 former G4386 days G2250 , in G1722 which G3739 , after ye were illuminated G5461 , ye endured G5278 a great G4183 fight G119 of afflictions G3804 ;

|
33. Sometimes you were hurt and attacked before crowds of people, and sometimes you shared with those who were being treated that way.
|
33. Partly G5124 G3303 , whilst ye were made a gazingstock G2301 both G5037 by reproaches G3680 and G2532 afflictions G2347 ; and G1161 partly G5124 , whilst ye became G1096 companions G2844 of them that were so used G390 G3779 .

|
34. You helped the prisoners. You even had joy when all that you owned was taken from you, because you knew you had something better and more lasting.
|
34. For G1063 ye had compassion G4834 G2532 of me in my G3450 bonds G1199 , and G2532 took G4327 joyfully G3326 G5479 the G3588 spoiling G724 of your G5216 goods G5224 , knowing G1097 in G1722 yourselves G1438 that ye have G2192 in G1722 heaven G3772 a better G2909 and G2532 an enduring G3306 substance G5223 .

35. So do not lose the courage you had in the past, which has a great reward.
|
35. Cast not away G577 G3361 therefore G3767 your G5216 confidence G3954 , which G3748 hath G2192 great G3173 recompense of reward G3405 .

36. You must hold on, so you can do what God wants and receive what he has promised.
|
36. For G1063 ye have G2192 need G5532 of patience G5281 , that G2443 , after ye have done G4160 the G3588 will G2307 of God G2316 , ye might receive G2865 the G3588 promise G1860 .
|
|
37. For in a very short time, "The One who is coming will come and will not be delayed.
|
37. For G1063 yet G2089 , a little while G3397 G3745 G3745 , and he that shall come G2064 will come G2240 , and G2532 will not G3756 tarry G5549 .
|
|
38. The person who is right with me will live by trusting in me. But if he turns back with fear, I will not be pleased with him."

38. Now G1161 the G3588 just G1342 shall live G2198 by G1537 faith G4102 : but G2532 if G1437 any man draw back G5288 , my G3450 soul G5590 shall have no pleasure G2106 G3756 in G1722 him G846 .

39. But we are not those who turn back and are lost. We are people who have faith and are saved.
|
39. But G1161 we G2249 are G2070 not G3756 of them who draw back G5289 unto G1519 perdition G684 ; but G235 of them that believe G4102 to the saving G1519 G4047 of the soul G5590 .
