3. After a while he got up from the side of his wife's body and went to talk to the Hittites. He said,

4. "I am only a stranger and a foreigner here. Sell me some of your land so that I can bury my dead wife."

5. The Hittites answered Abraham,

6. "Sir, you are a great leader among us. You may have the best place we have to bury your dead. You may have any of our burying places that you want, and none of us will stop you from burying your dead wife."

Hear H8085 us , my lord H113 : thou H859 art a mighty H430 prince H5387 among H8432 us : in the choice H4005 of our sepulchers H6913 bury H6912 H853 thy dead H4191 ; none H376 H3808 of H4480 us shall withhold H3607 from H4480 thee H853 his sepulcher H6913 , but that thou mayest bury H4480 H6912 thy dead H4191 .

7. Abraham rose and bowed to the people of the land, the Hittites.

7. And Abraham H85 stood up H6965 , and bowed himself H7812 to the people H5971 of the land H776 , even to the children H1121 of Heth H2845 .

8. He said to them, "If you truly want to help me bury my dead wife here, speak to Ephron, the son of Zohar for me.

8. And he communed H1696 with H854 them, saying H559 , If H518 it be H3426 H853 your mind H5315 that I should bury H6912 H853 my dead H4191 out of my sight H4480 H6440 ; hear H8085 me , and entreat H6293 for me to Ephron H6085 the son H1121 of Zohar H6714 ,

9. Ask him to sell me the cave of Machpelah at the edge of his field. I will pay him the full price. You can be the witnesses that I am buying it as a burial place."

9. That he may give H5414 me H853 the cave H4631 of Machpelah H4375 , which H834 he hath, which H834 is in the end H7097 of his field H7704 ; for as much money H3701 as it is worth H4392 he shall give H5414 it me for a possession H272 of a burial place H6913 amongst H8432 you.

10. Ephron was sitting among the Hittites at the city gate. He answered Abraham,

11. "No, sir. I will give you the land and the cave that is in it, with these people as witnesses. Bury your dead wife."

12. Then Abraham bowed down before the Hittites.

13. He said to Ephron before all the people, "Please let me pay you the full price for the field. Accept my money, and I will bury my dead there."

13. And he spoke H1696 unto H413 Ephron H6085 in the audience H241 of the people H5971 of the land H776 , saying H559 , But H389 if H518 thou H859 wilt give it , I pray thee H3863 , hear H8085 me : I will give H5414 thee money H3701 for the field H7704 ; take H3947 it of H4480 me , and I will bury H6912 H853 my dead H4191 there H8033 .

14. Ephron answered Abraham,

14. And Ephron H6085 answered H6030 H853 Abraham H85 , saying H559 unto him,

15. "Sir, the land is worth ten pounds of silver, but I won't argue with you over the price. Take the land, and bury your dead wife."

15. My lord H113 , hearken H8085 unto me : the land H776 is worth four H702 hundred H3967 shekels H8255 of silver H3701 ; what H4100 is that H1931 between H996 me and thee? bury H6912 therefore thy dead H4191 .

16. Abraham agreed and paid Ephron in front of the Hittite witnesses. He weighed out the full price, ten pounds of silver, and they counted the weight as the traders normally did.

16. And Abraham H85 hearkened H8085 unto H413 Ephron H6085 ; and Abraham H85 weighed H8254 to Ephron H6085 H853 the silver H3701 , which H834 he had named H1696 in the audience H241 of the sons H1121 of Heth H2845 , four H702 hundred H3967 shekels H8255 of silver H3701 , current H5674 money with the merchant H5503 .
