1. The land that was given to the tribe of Judah was divided among all the family groups. It went all the way to the Desert of Zin in the far south, at the border of Edom.
|
1. This then was H1961 the lot H1486 of the tribe H4294 of the children H1121 of Judah H3063 by their families H4940 ; even to H413 the border H1366 of Edom H123 the wilderness H4057 of Zin H6790 southward H5045 was the uttermost part H4480 H7097 of the south coast H8486 .

2. The southern border of Judah's land started at the south end of the Dead Sea
|
2. And their south H5045 border H1366 was H1961 from the shore H4480 H7097 of the salt H4417 sea H3220 , from H4480 the bay H3956 that looketh H6437 southward H5045 :
|
|
3. and went south of Scorpion Pass to Zin. From there it passed to the south of Kadesh Barnea and continued past Hezron to Addar. From Addar it turned and went to Karka.
|
3. And it went out H3318 to H413 the south side H4480 H5045 to Maaleh H4610 -acrabbim , and passed along H5674 to Zin H6790 , and ascended up H5927 on the south side H4480 H5045 unto Kadesh H6947 -barnea , and passed along H5674 to Hezron H2696 , and went up H5927 to Adar H146 , and fetched a compass H5437 to Karkaa H7173 :

4. It continued to Azmon, the brook of Egypt, and then to the Mediterranean Sea. This was the southern border.
|
4. From thence it passed toward H5674 Azmon H6111 , and went out H3318 unto the river H5158 of Egypt H4714 ; and the goings out H8444 of that coast H1366 were H1961 at the sea H3220 : this H2088 shall be H1961 your south H5045 coast H1366 .

5. The eastern border was the shore of the Dead Sea, as far as the mouth of the Jordan River. The northern border started at the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan River.
|
5. And the east H6924 border H1366 was the salt H4417 sea H3220 , even unto H5704 the end H7097 of Jordan H3383 . And their border H1366 in the north H6828 quarter H6285 was from the bay H4480 H3956 of the sea H3220 at the uttermost part H4480 H7097 of Jordan H3383 :

6. Then it went to Beth Hoglah and continued north of Beth Arabah to the stone of Bohan son of Reuben.

6. And the border H1366 went up H5927 to Beth H1031 -hogla , and passed along H5674 by the north H4480 H6828 of Beth H1026 -arabah ; and the border H1366 went up H5927 to the stone H68 of Bohan H932 the son H1121 of Reuben H7205 :

7. Then the northern border went through the Valley of Achor to Debir where it turned toward the north and went to Gilgal. Gilgal is across from the road that goes through Adummim Pass, on the south side of the ravine. The border continued to the waters of En Shemesh and stopped at En Rogel.

7. And the border H1366 went up H5927 toward Debir H1688 from the valley H4480 H6010 of Achor H5911 , and so northward H6828 , looking H6437 toward H413 Gilgal H1537 , that H834 is before H5227 the going up H4608 to Adummim H131 , which H834 is on the south side H4480 H5045 of the river H5158 : and the border H1366 passed H5674 toward H413 the waters H4325 of En H5885 -shemesh , and the goings out H8444 thereof were H1961 at H413 En H5883 -rogel:

8. Then it went through the Valley of Ben Hinnom, next to the southern side of the Jebusite city (which is called Jerusalem). There the border went to the top of the hill on the west side of Hinnom Valley, at the northern end of the Valley of Giants.

8. And the border H1366 went up H5927 by the valley H1516 of the son H1121 of Hinnom H2011 unto H413 the south H4480 H5045 side H3802 of the Jebusite H2983 ; the same H1931 is Jerusalem H3389 : and the border H1366 went up H5927 to H413 the top H7218 of the mountain H2022 that H834 lieth before H5921 the valley H1516 of Hinnom H2011 westward H3220 , which H834 is at the end H7097 of the valley H6010 of the giants H7497 northward H6828 :

9. From there it went to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah and then it went to the cities near Mount Ephron. There it turned and went toward Baalah, which is called Kiriath Jearim.

9. And the border H1366 was drawn H8388 from the top H4480 H7218 of the hill H2022 unto H413 the fountain H4599 of the water H4325 of Nephtoah H5318 , and went out H3318 to H413 the cities H5892 of mount H2022 Ephron H6085 ; and the border H1366 was drawn H8388 to Baalah H1173 , which H1931 is Kirjath H7157 -jearim:

10. At Baalah the border turned west and went toward Mount Seir. It continued along the north side of Mount Jearim (also called Kesalon) and came to Beth Shemesh. From there it went past Timnah
|
10. And the border H1366 compassed H5437 from Baalah H4480 H1173 westward H3220 unto H413 mount H2022 Seir H8165 , and passed along H5674 unto H413 the side H3802 of mount H2022 Jearim H3297 , which H1931 is Chesalon H3693 , on the north side H4480 H6828 , and went down H3381 to Beth H1053 -shemesh , and passed on H5674 to Timnah H8553 :

11. to the hill north of Ekron. Then it turned toward Shikkeron and went past Mount Baalah and continued on to Jabneel, ending at the sea.

11. And the border H1366 went out H3318 unto H413 the side H3802 of Ekron H6138 northward H6828 : and the border H1366 was drawn H8388 to Shicron H7942 , and passed along H5674 to mount H2022 Baalah H1173 , and went out H3318 unto Jabneel H2995 ; and the goings out H8444 of the border H1366 were H1931 at the sea H3220 .

12. The Mediterranean Sea was the western border. Inside these borders lived the family groups of Judah.
|
12. And the west H3220 border H1366 was to the great H1419 sea H3220 , and the coast H1366 thereof . This H2088 is the coast H1366 of the children H1121 of Judah H3063 round about H5439 according to their families H4940 .

|
13. The Lord had commanded Joshua to give Caleb son of Jephunneh part of the land in Judah, so he gave Caleb the town of Kiriath Arba, also called Hebron. (Arba was the father of Anak.)
|
13. And unto Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 he gave H5414 a part H2506 among H8432 the children H1121 of Judah H3063 , according H413 to the commandment H6310 of the LORD H3068 to Joshua H3091 , even H853 the city H7151 of Arba H704 the father H1 of Anak H6061 , which H1931 city is Hebron H2275 .

14. Caleb forced out the three Anakite families living in Hebron: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.

14. And Caleb H3612 drove H3423 thence H4480 H8033 H853 the three H7969 sons H1121 of Anak H6061 , H853 Sheshai H8344 , and Ahiman H289 , and Talmai H8526 , the children H3211 of Anak H6061 .

15. Then he left there and went to fight against the people living in Debir. (In the past Debir had been called Kiriath Sepher.)
|
15. And he went up H5927 thence H4480 H8033 to H413 the inhabitants H3427 of Debir H1688 : and the name H8034 of Debir H1688 before H6440 was Kirjath H7158 -sepher.

16. Caleb said, "I will give Acsah, my daughter, as a wife to the man who attacks and captures the city of Kiriath Sepher."
|
16. And Caleb H3612 said H559 , He that H834 smiteth H5221 H853 Kirjath H7158 -sepher , and taketh H3920 it , to him will I give H5414 H853 Achsah H5915 my daughter H1323 to wife H802 .

17. Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, captured the city, so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to Othniel to be his wife.
|
17. And Othniel H6274 the son H1121 of Kenaz H7073 , the brother H251 of Caleb H3612 , took H3920 it : and he gave H5414 him H853 Achsah H5915 his daughter H1323 to wife H802 .

|
18. When Acsah came to Othniel, she told him to ask her father for a field. So Acsah went to her father. When she got down from her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What do you want?"

18. And it came to pass H1961 , as she came H935 unto him , that she moved H5496 him to ask H7592 of H4480 H854 her father H1 a field H7704 : and she lighted H6795 off H4480 H5921 her ass H2543 ; and Caleb H3612 said H559 unto her, What H4100 wouldest thou?

19. Acsah answered, "Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in southern Canaan, also give me springs of water." So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.

20. The tribe of Judah got the land God had promised them. Each family group got part of the land.

21. The tribe of Judah got all these towns in the southern part of Canaan near the border of Edom: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

|

|

45. The tribe of Judah was also given these towns: Ekron and all the small towns and villages near it;
|
45. Ekron H6138 , with her towns H1323 and her villages H2691 :

|
46. the area west of Ekron and all the villages and small towns near Ashdod;
|
46. From Ekron H4480 H6138 even unto the sea H3220 , all H3605 that H834 lay near H5921 H3027 Ashdod H795 , with their villages H2691 :
|
|
47. Ashdod and the small towns and villages around it; the villages and small towns around Gaza as far as the brook of Egypt and along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
|

60. The people of Judah were also given the two towns of Rabbah and Kiriath Baal (also called Kiriath Jearim) and their villages.

61. Judah was given these towns in the desert: Beth Arabah, Middin, Secacah,
|
61. In the wilderness H4057 , Beth H1026 -arabah, Middin H4081 , and Secacah H5527 ,
|
|
62. Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En Gedi. There were six towns and all their villages.
|
62. And Nibshan H5044 , and the city H5892 of Salt H5898 , and En H5872 -gedi; six H8337 cities H5892 with their villages H2691 .

|
63. The army of Judah was not able to force out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites still live among the people of Judah to this day.
|
63. As for the Jebusites H2983 the inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem H3389 , the children H1121 of Judah H3063 could H3201 not H3808 drive them out H3423 : but the Jebusites H2983 dwell H3427 with H584 the children H1121 of Judah H3063 at Jerusalem H3389 unto H5704 this H2088 day H3117 .
