2 Samuel 6:1 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 Then David again gathered all the elite troops in Israel, 30,000 in all.
2 He led them to Baalah of Judah to bring back the Ark of God, which bears the name of the LORD of Heaven's Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim.
3 They placed the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from Abinadab's house, which was on a hill. Uzzah and Ahio, Abinadab's sons, were guiding the cart as it left the house,
4 carrying the Ark of God. Ahio walked in front of the Ark.
5 David and all the people of Israel were celebrating before the LORD, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments-- lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.
6 But when they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out his hand and steadied the Ark of God.
7 Then the LORD's anger was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him dead because of this. So Uzzah died right there beside the Ark of God.
8 David was angry because the LORD's anger had burst out against Uzzah. He named that place Perez-uzzah (which means "to burst out against Uzzah"), as it is still called today.
9 David was now afraid of the LORD, and he asked, "How can I ever bring the Ark of the LORD back into my care?"
10 So David decided not to move the Ark of the LORD into the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath.
11 The Ark of the LORD remained there in Obed-edom's house for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his entire household.
12 Then King David was told, "The LORD has blessed Obed-edom's household and everything he has because of the Ark of God." So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration.
13 After the men who were carrying the Ark of the LORD had gone six steps, David sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.
14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might, wearing a priestly garment.
15 So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the LORD with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams' horns.
16 But as the Ark of the LORD entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she was filled with contempt for him.
17 They brought the Ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the special tent David had prepared for it. And David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.
18 When he had finished his sacrifices, David blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Heaven's Armies.
19 Then he gave to every Israelite man and woman in the crowd a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people returned to their homes.
20 When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said in disgust, "How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!"
21 David retorted to Michal, "I was dancing before the LORD, who chose me above your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the LORD, so I celebrate before the LORD.
22 Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes! But those servant girls you mentioned will indeed think I am distinguished!"
23 So Michal, the daughter of Saul, remained childless throughout her entire life.

2 And David H1732 MMS arose H6965 W-VQY3MS , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS with all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 that H834 RPRO were with H854 PREP-3MS him from Baale H1184 of Judah H3063 , to bring up H5927 from thence H8033 M-ADV the ark H727 of God H430 D-EDP , whose H834 RPRO name H8034 CMS is called H7121 by the name H8034 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 that dwelleth H3427 VQPMS between the cherubims H3742 D-NMP .
3 And they set H7392 the ark H727 of God H430 D-NAME-4MP upon H413 PREP a new H2319 cart H5699 , and brought H5375 it out of the house H1004 of Abinadab H41 that H834 RPRO was in Gibeah H1390 : and Uzzah H5798 and Ahio H283 , the sons H1121 of Abinadab H41 , drove H5090 the new H2319 cart H5699 .
4 And they brought H5375 it out of the house H1004 of Abinadab H41 which H834 RPRO was at Gibeah H1390 , accompanying H5973 PREP the ark H727 of God H430 D-EDP : and Ahio H283 went H1980 before H6440 L-CMP the ark H727 .
5 And David H1732 and all H3605 W-CMS the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 played H7832 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS on all H3605 manner of instruments made of fir H1265 wood H6086 CMP , even on harps H3658 , and on psalteries H5035 , and on timbrels H8596 , and on cornets H4517 , and on cymbals H6767 .
6 And when they came H935 W-VQY3MP to H5704 PREP Nachon H5225 \'s threshingfloor H1637 , Uzzah H5798 put forth H7971 W-VQY3MS his hand to H413 PREP the ark H727 of God H430 D-NAME-4MP , and took hold H270 of it ; for H3588 CONJ the oxen H1241 shook H8058 it .
7 And the anger H639 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS was kindled H2734 against Uzzah H5798 ; and God H430 D-EDP smote H5221 him there H8033 ADV for H5921 PREP his error H7944 ; and there H8033 ADV he died H4191 W-VQY3MS by H5973 PREP the ark H727 of God H430 .
8 And David H1732 L-NAME was displeased H2734 W-VQY3MS , because H5921 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS had made H6555 VQQ3MS a breach H6556 upon Uzzah H5798 : and he called the name H7121 W-VQY3MS of the H1931 D-PPRO-3MS place H4725 Perez H6560 - uzzah to H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS .
9 And David H1732 was afraid H3372 of the LORD H3068 EDS that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , How H349 shall the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS come H935 VQY3MS to H413 PREP-1MS me ?
10 So David H1732 would H14 not H3808 W-NPAR remove H5493 L-VHFC the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 EDS unto H413 PREP-3MS him into H5921 PREP the city H5892 GFS of David H1732 MMS : but David H1732 carried it aside H5186 into the house H1004 CMS of Obed H5654 - edom the Gittite H1663 .
11 And the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 EDS continued H3427 W-VQY3MS in the house H1004 CMS of Obed H5654 - edom the Gittite H1663 three H7969 NFS months H2320 : and the LORD H3068 EDS blessed H1288 W-VNY3MS Obed H5654 - edom , and all H3605 NMS his household H1004 CMS-3MS .
12 And it was told H5046 king H4428 David H1732 MMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , The LORD H3068 EDS hath blessed H1288 VPQ3MS the house H1004 CMS of Obed H5654 - edom , and all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO pertaineth unto him , because H5668 B-NMS of the ark H727 of God H430 D-EDP . So David H1732 MMS went H1980 W-VQY3MS and brought up H5927 W-VHY3MS the ark H727 of God H430 D-EDP from the house H1004 of Obed H5654 - edom into the city H5892 GFS of David H1732 MMS with gladness H8057 .
13 And it was H1961 W-VQY3MS so , that when H3588 CONJ they that bore H5375 the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 EDS had gone H6805 six H8337 paces H6806 , he sacrificed H2076 oxen H7794 CMS and fatlings H4806 .
14 And David H1732 danced H3769 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS with all H3605 B-CMS his might H5797 NMS ; and David H1732 was girded H2296 with a linen H906 ephod H646 .
15 So David H1732 and all H3605 W-CMS the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 brought up H5927 the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 EDS with shouting H8643 B-NFS , and with the sound H6963 WB-NMS of the trumpet H7782 NMS .
16 And as H1961 W-VQQ3MS the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 EDS came H935 VQPMS into the city H5892 GFS of David H1732 MMS , Michal H4324 Saul H7586 \'s daughter H1323 CFS looked H8259 through H1157 PREP a window H2474 , and saw H7200 W-VQQ3FS king H4428 D-NMS David H1732 MMS leaping H6339 and dancing H3769 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS ; and she despised H959 him in her heart H3820 .
17 And they brought in the ark H727 of the LORD H3068 EDS , and set H3322 it in his place H4725 , in the midst H8432 B-NMS of the tabernacle H168 that H834 RPRO David H1732 MMS had pitched H5186 VQQ3MS for it : and David H1732 MMS offered H5927 W-VHY3MS burnt offerings H5930 CFP and peace offerings H8002 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS .
18 And as soon as David H1732 MMS had made an end H3615 W-VPY3MS of offering H5927 burnt offerings H5930 and peace offerings H8002 , he blessed H1288 W-VNY3MS the people H5971 in the name H8034 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
19 And he dealt H2505 among all H3605 NMS the people H5971 , even among the whole H3605 NMS multitude H1995 of Israel H3478 , as well to H5704 W-PREP the women H802 NFS as men H376 NMS , to every one H376 NMS a H259 OFS cake H2471 of bread H3899 NMS , and a H259 MMS good piece H829 of flesh , and a H259 MFS flagon H809 of wine . So all H3605 NMS the people H5971 departed H1980 W-VQY3MS every one H376 NMS to his house H1004 .
20 Then David H1732 MMS returned H7725 to bless H1288 his household H1004 NMS-3MS . And Michal H4324 the daughter H1323 CFS of Saul H7586 came out H3318 to meet H7125 L-VQFC David H1732 MMS , and said H559 W-VQY3FS , How H4100 IPRO glorious H3513 was the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 today H3117 D-AMS , who H834 RPRO uncovered himself H1540 today H3117 D-AMS in the eyes H5869 of the handmaids H519 of his servants H5650 , as one H259 of the vain fellows H7386 shamelessly uncovereth himself H1540 !
21 And David H1732 MMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Michal H4324 , It was before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , which H834 RPRO chose H977 me before thy father H1 , and before all H3605 WM-CMS his house H1004 NMS-3MS , to appoint H6680 me ruler H5057 NMS over H5921 PREP the people H5971 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 : therefore will I play H7832 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
22 And I will yet H5750 ADV be more vile H7043 than thus H2063 , and will be H1961 base H8217 in mine own sight H5869 : and of H5973 the maidservants H519 which H834 RPRO thou hast spoken H559 VQQ2FS of , of them shall I be had in honor H3513 .
23 Therefore Michal H4324 the daughter H1323 CFS of Saul H7586 had H1961 VQQ3MS no H3808 ADV child H3206 unto H5704 PREP the day H3117 NMS of her death H4194 .
