Ezra 8:1 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 Here is a list of the family leaders and the genealogies of those who came with me from Babylon during the reign of King Artaxerxes:
2 From the family of Phinehas: Gershom. From the family of Ithamar: Daniel. From the family of David: Hattush,
3 a descendant of Shecaniah. From the family of Parosh: Zechariah and 150 other men were registered.
4 From the family of Pahath-moab: Eliehoenai son of Zerahiah and 200 other men.
5 From the family of Zattu: Shecaniah son of Jahaziel and 300 other men.
6 From the family of Adin: Ebed son of Jonathan and 50 other men.
7 From the family of Elam: Jeshaiah son of Athaliah and 70 other men.
8 From the family of Shephatiah: Zebadiah son of Michael and 80 other men.
9 From the family of Joab: Obadiah son of Jehiel and 218 other men.
10 From the family of Bani: Shelomith son of Josiphiah and 160 other men.
11 From the family of Bebai: Zechariah son of Bebai and 28 other men.
12 From the family of Azgad: Johanan son of Hakkatan and 110 other men.
13 From the family of Adonikam, who came later: Eliphelet, Jeuel, Shemaiah, and 60 other men.
14 From the family of Bigvai: Uthai, Zaccur, and 70 other men.
15 I assembled the exiles at the Ahava Canal, and we camped there for three days while I went over the lists of the people and the priests who had arrived. I found that not one Levite had volunteered to come along.
16 So I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, who were leaders of the people. I also sent for Joiarib and Elnathan, who were men of discernment.
17 I sent them to Iddo, the leader of the Levites at Casiphia, to ask him and his relatives and the Temple servants to send us ministers for the Temple of God at Jerusalem.
18 Since the gracious hand of our God was on us, they sent us a man named Sherebiah, along with eighteen of his sons and brothers. He was a very astute man and a descendant of Mahli, who was a descendant of Levi son of Israel.
19 They also sent Hashabiah, together with Jeshaiah from the descendants of Merari, and twenty of his sons and brothers,
20 and 220 Temple servants. The Temple servants were assistants to the Levites-- a group of Temple workers first instituted by King David and his officials. They were all listed by name.
21 And there by the Ahava Canal, I gave orders for all of us to fast and humble ourselves before our God. We prayed that he would give us a safe journey and protect us, our children, and our goods as we traveled.
22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to accompany us and protect us from enemies along the way. After all, we had told the king, "Our God's hand of protection is on all who worship him, but his fierce anger rages against those who abandon him."
23 So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.
24 I appointed twelve leaders of the priests-- Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten other priests--
25 to be in charge of transporting the silver, the gold, the gold bowls, and the other items that the king, his council, his officials, and all the people of Israel had presented for the Temple of God.
26 I weighed the treasure as I gave it to them and found the totals to be as follows: 24 tons of silver, 7,500 pounds of silver articles, 7,500 pounds of gold,
27 20 gold bowls, equal in value to 1,000 gold coins, 2 fine articles of polished bronze, as precious as gold.
28 And I said to these priests, "You and these treasures have been set apart as holy to the LORD. This silver and gold is a voluntary offering to the LORD, the God of our ancestors.
29 Guard these treasures well until you present them to the leading priests, the Levites, and the leaders of Israel, who will weigh them at the storerooms of the LORD's Temple in Jerusalem."
30 So the priests and the Levites accepted the task of transporting these treasures of silver and gold to the Temple of our God in Jerusalem.
31 We broke camp at the Ahava Canal on April 19 and started off to Jerusalem. And the gracious hand of our God protected us and saved us from enemies and bandits along the way.
32 So we arrived safely in Jerusalem, where we rested for three days.
33 On the fourth day after our arrival, the silver, gold, and other valuables were weighed at the Temple of our God and entrusted to Meremoth son of Uriah the priest and to Eleazar son of Phinehas, along with Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui-- both of whom were Levites.
34 Everything was accounted for by number and weight, and the total weight was officially recorded.
35 Then the exiles who had come out of captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel. They presented twelve bulls for all the people of Israel, as well as ninety-six rams and seventy-seven male lambs. They also offered twelve male goats as a sin offering. All this was given as a burnt offering to the LORD.
36 The king's decrees were delivered to his highest officers and the governors of the province west of the Euphrates River, who then cooperated by supporting the people and the Temple of God.

17 And I sent them with commandment H6680 H853 unto H5921 Iddo H112 the chief H7218 at the place H4725 Casiphia, H3703 and I told H7760 H6310 them what H1697 they should say H1696 unto H413 Iddo, H112 and to his brethren H251 the Nethinims, H5411 at the place H4725 Casiphia, H3703 that they should bring H935 unto us ministers H8334 for the house H1004 of our God. 18 And by the good H2896 hand H3027 of our God H430 upon H5921 us they brought H935 us a man H376 of understanding, H7922 of the sons H4480 H1121 of Mahli, H4249 the son H1121 of Levi, H3878 the son H1121 of Israel; H3478 and Sherebiah, H8274 with his sons H1121 and his brethren, H251 eighteen H8083 H6240 ;
19 And Hashabiah, H2811 and with H854 him Jeshaiah H3470 of the sons H4480 H1121 of Merari, H4847 his brethren H251 and their sons, H1121 twenty; H6242
20 Also of H4480 the Nethinims, H5411 whom H7945 David H1732 and the princes H8269 had appointed H5414 for the service H5656 of the Levites, H3881 two hundred H3967 and twenty H6242 Nethinims: H5411 all H3605 of them were expressed H5344 by name. H8034
21 Then I proclaimed H7121 a fast H6685 there, H8033 at H5921 the river H5104 of Ahava, H163 that we might afflict ourselves H6031 before H6440 our God, H430 to seek H1245 of H4480 him a right H3477 way H1870 for us , and for our little ones, H2945 and for all H3605 our substance. H7399

25 And weighed H8254 unto them H853 the silver, H3701 and the gold, H2091 and the vessels, H3627 even the offering H8641 of the house H1004 of our God, H430 which the king, H4428 and his counselors, H3289 and his lords, H8269 and all H3605 Israel H3478 there present, H4672 had offered: H7311
26 I even weighed H8254 unto H5921 their hand H3027 six H8337 hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 talents H3603 of silver, H3701 and silver H3701 vessels H3627 a hundred H3967 talents, H3603 and of gold H2091 a hundred H3967 talents; H3603
27 Also twenty H6242 basins H3713 of gold, H2091 of a thousand H505 drams; H150 and two H8147 vessels H3627 of fine H6668 H2896 copper, H5178 precious H2530 as gold. H2091
28 And I said H559 unto H413 them, Ye H859 are holy H6944 unto the LORD; H3068 the vessels H3627 are holy H6944 also ; and the silver H3701 and the gold H2091 are a freewill offering H5071 unto the LORD H3068 God H430 of your fathers. H1
29 Watch H8245 ye , and keep H8104 them , until H5704 ye weigh H8254 them before H6440 the chief H8269 of the priests H3548 and the Levites, H3881 and chief H8269 of the fathers H1 of Israel, H3478 at Jerusalem, H3389 in the chambers H3957 of the house H1004 of the LORD. H3068
30 So took H6901 the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 the weight H4948 of the silver, H3701 and the gold, H2091 and the vessels, H3627 to bring H935 them to Jerusalem H3389 unto the house H1004 of our God. H430
31 Then we departed H5265 from the river H4480 H5104 of Ahava H163 on the twelfth H8147 H6240 day of the first H7223 month, H2320 to go H1980 unto Jerusalem: H3389 and the hand H3027 of our God H430 was H1961 upon H5921 us , and he delivered H5337 us from the hand H4480 H3709 of the enemy, H341 and of such as lay in wait H693 by H5921 the way. 32 And we came H935 to Jerusalem, H3389 and abode H3427 there H8033 three H7969 days. H3117
33 Now on the fourth H7243 day H3117 was the silver H3701 and the gold H2091 and the vessels H3627 weighed H8254 in the house H1004 of our God H430 by H5921 the hand H3027 of Meremoth H4822 the son H1121 of Uriah H223 the priest; H3548 and with H5973 him was Eleazar H499 the son H1121 of Phinehas; H6372 and with H5973 them was Jozabad H3107 the son H1121 of Jeshua, H3442 and Noadiah H5129 the son H1121 of Binnui, H1131 Levites; H3881
34 By number H4557 and by weight H4948 of every one: H3605 and all H3605 the weight H4948 was written H3789 at that H1931 time. H6256
35 Also the children H1121 of those that had been carried away, H1473 which were come H935 out of the captivity H4480 H7628 , offered H7126 burnt offerings H5930 unto the God H430 of Israel, H3478 twelve H8147 H6240 bullocks H6499 for H5921 all H3605 Israel, H3478 ninety H8673 and six H8337 rams, H352 seventy H7657 and seven H7651 lambs, H3532 twelve H8147 H6240 he goats H6842 for a sin offering: H2403 all H3605 this was a burnt offering H5930 unto the LORD. 36 And they delivered H5414 H853 the king's H4428 commissions H1881 unto the king's H4428 lieutenants, H323 and to the governors H6346 on this side H5676 the river: H5104 and they furthered H5375 H853 the people, H5971 and the house H1004 of God. H430
