Ezekiel 22:1 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 Now this message came to me from the LORD:
2 "Son of man, are you ready to judge Jerusalem? Are you ready to judge this city of murderers? Publicly denounce her detestable sins,
3 and give her this message from the Sovereign LORD: O city of murderers, doomed and damned-- city of idols, filthy and foul--
4 you are guilty because of the blood you have shed. You are defiled because of the idols you have made. Your day of destruction has come! You have reached the end of your years. I will make you an object of mockery throughout the world.
5 O infamous city, filled with confusion, you will be mocked by people far and near.
6 "Every leader in Israel who lives within your walls is bent on murder.
7 Fathers and mothers are treated with contempt. Foreigners are forced to pay for protection. Orphans and widows are wronged and oppressed among you.
8 You despise my holy things and violate my Sabbath days of rest.
9 People accuse others falsely and send them to their death. You are filled with idol worshipers and people who do obscene things.
10 Men sleep with their fathers' wives and have intercourse with women who are menstruating.
11 Within your walls live men who commit adultery with their neighbors' wives, who defile their daughters-in-law, or who rape their own sisters.
12 There are hired murderers, loan racketeers, and extortioners everywhere. They never even think of me and my commands, says the Sovereign LORD.
13 "But now I clap my hands in indignation over your dishonest gain and bloodshed.
14 How strong and courageous will you be in my day of reckoning? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do what I said.
15 I will scatter you among the nations and purge you of your wickedness.
16 And when I have been dishonored among the nations because of you, you will know that I am the LORD."
17 Then this message came to me from the LORD:
18 "Son of man, the people of Israel are the worthless slag that remains after silver is smelted. They are the dross that is left over-- a useless mixture of copper, tin, iron, and lead.
19 So tell them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you are all worthless slag, I will bring you to my crucible in Jerusalem.
20 Just as copper, iron, lead, and tin are melted down in a furnace, I will melt you down in the heat of my fury.
21 I will gather you together and blow the fire of my anger upon you,
22 and you will melt like silver in fierce heat. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have poured out my fury on you.'"
23 Again a message came to me from the LORD:
24 "Son of man, give the people of Israel this message: In the day of my indignation, you will be like a polluted land, a land without rain.
25 Your princes plot conspiracies just as lions stalk their prey. They devour innocent people, seizing treasures and extorting wealth. They make many widows in the land.
26 Your priests have violated my instructions and defiled my holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach my people the difference between what is ceremonially clean and unclean. They disregard my Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them.
27 Your leaders are like wolves who tear apart their victims. They actually destroy people's lives for money!
28 And your prophets cover up for them by announcing false visions and making lying predictions. They say, 'My message is from the Sovereign LORD,' when the LORD hasn't spoken a single word to them.
29 Even common people oppress the poor, rob the needy, and deprive foreigners of justice.
30 "I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn't have to destroy the land, but I found no one.
31 So now I will pour out my fury on them, consuming them with the fire of my anger. I will heap on their heads the full penalty for all their sins. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!"

2 Now , thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS son H1121 CMS of man H120 NMS , wilt thou judge H8199 , wilt thou judge H8199 the bloody H1818 city H5892 GFS ? yea , thou shalt show H3045 her all H3605 NMS her abominations H8441 .
3 Then say H559 thou , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 , The city H5892 GFS sheddeth H8210 blood H1818 NMS in the midst H8432 of it , that her time H6256 may come H935 L-VQFC , and maketh H6213 idols H1544 against H5921 PREP-3FS herself to defile H2930 herself .
4 Thou art become guilty H816 in thy blood H1818 that H834 RPRO thou hast shed H8210 ; and hast defiled H2930 thyself in thine idols H1544 which H834 RPRO thou hast made H6213 VQPFS ; and thou hast caused thy days H3117 to draw near H7126 , and art come H935 W-VQY3FS even unto H5704 PREP thy years H8141 : therefore H3651 ADV have I made H5414 thee a reproach H2781 unto the heathen H1471 LD-NMP , and a mocking H7048 to all H3605 L-CMS countries H776 .
5 Those that be near H7138 , and those that be far H7350 from H4480 thee , shall mock H7046 thee , which art infamous H2931 and much H7227 vexed H4103 .
6 Behold H2009 IJEC , the princes H5387 of Israel H3478 , every one H376 NMS were H1961 VQQ3MP in thee to their power H2220 to H4616 L-CONJ shed H8210 blood H1818 NMS .
7 In thee have they set light H7043 by father H1 NMS and mother H517 : in the midst H8432 of thee have they dealt H6213 VQQ3MP by oppression H6233 with the stranger H1616 : in thee have they vexed H3238 the fatherless H3490 NMS and the widow H490 W-NFS .
8 Thou hast despised H959 mine holy things H6944 , and hast profaned H2490 my sabbaths H7676 .
9 In thee are H1961 VQQ3MP men H376 that carry tales H7400 to H4616 L-CONJ shed H8210 blood H1818 NMS : and in thee they eat H398 upon H413 W-PREP the mountains H2022 : in the midst H8432 of thee they commit H6213 VQQ3MP lewdness H2154 NFS .
10 In thee have they discovered H1540 their fathers H1 NMS \' nakedness H6172 CFS : in thee have they humbled H6031 her that was set apart H5079 for pollution H2931 .
11 And one H376 W-NMS hath committed H6213 VQQ3MS abomination H8441 with H854 PREP his neighbor H7453 NMS-3MS \'s wife H802 CFS ; and another H376 W-NMS hath lewdly H2154 defiled H2930 his daughter H3618 CFS-3MS - in - law ; and another H376 W-NMS in thee hath humbled H6031 his sister H269 , his father H1 CMS-3MS \'s daughter H1323 .
12 In thee have they taken H3947 gifts H7810 to H4616 L-CONJ shed H8210 blood H1818 NMS ; thou hast taken H3947 usury H5392 and increase H8636 , and thou hast greedily gained H1214 of thy neighbors H7453 by extortion H6233 , and hast forgotten H7911 me , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
13 Behold H2009 IJEC , therefore I have smitten H5221 mine hand H3709 at H413 PREP thy dishonest gain H1215 which H834 RPRO thou hast made H6213 VQPFS , and at H5921 W-PREP thy blood H1818 which H834 RPRO hath been H1961 VQQ3MP in the midst H8432 of thee .
14 Can thine heart H3820 endure H5975 , or H518 PART can thine hands H3027 be strong H2388 , in the days H3117 that H834 RPRO I H589 PPRO-1MS shall deal H6213 VQPMS with thee ? I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS have spoken H1696 VPQ1MS it , and will do H6213 it .
15 And I will scatter H6327 thee among the heathen H1471 , and disperse H2219 thee in the countries H776 , and will consume H8552 thy filthiness H2932 out of H4480 thee .
16 And thou shalt take thine inheritance H2490 in thyself in the sight H5869 of the heathen H1471 NMP , and thou shalt know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
17 And the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
18 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , the house H1004 of Israel H3478 is to me become H1961 VQQ3MP dross H5509 : all H3605 CMS-3MP they are brass H5178 CFS , and tin H913 , and iron H1270 W-NMS , and lead H5777 , in the midst H8432 B-NMS of the furnace H3564 ; they are H1961 even the dross H5509 of silver H3701 NMS .
19 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; Because H3282 ADV ye are all H3605 CMS-2MP become H1961 VQFC dross H5509 , behold H2009 , therefore H3651 L-ADV I will gather H6908 you into H413 PREP the midst H8432 of Jerusalem H3389 .
20 As they gather H6910 silver H3701 NMS , and brass H5178 , and iron H1270 W-NMS , and lead H5777 , and tin H913 , into H413 PREP the midst H8432 of the furnace H3564 , to blow H5301 the fire H784 CMS upon H5921 PREP-3MS it , to melt H5413 it ; so H3651 ADV will I gather H6908 you in mine anger H639 and in my fury H2534 , and I will leave H5117 you there , and melt H5413 you .
21 Yea , I will gather H3664 you , and blow H5301 upon H5921 PREP-2MP you in the fire H784 of my wrath H5678 , and ye shall be melted H5413 in the midst H8432 thereof .
22 As silver H3701 NMS is melted H2046 in the midst H8432 B-NMS of the furnace H3564 , so H3651 ADV shall ye be melted H5413 in the midst H8432 B-NMS thereof ; and ye shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS have poured out H8210 my fury H2534 upon H5921 PREP-2MP you .
23 And the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
24 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , say H559 unto her , Thou H859 art the land H776 GFS that H1931 PPRO-3FS is not H3808 NADV cleansed H2891 , nor H3808 NADV rained upon H1656 in the day H3117 B-NMS of indignation H2195 .
25 There is a conspiracy H7195 of her prophets H5030 in the midst H8432 thereof , like a roaring H7580 lion H738 ravening H2963 the prey H2964 NMS ; they have devoured H398 souls H5315 GFS ; they have taken H3947 the treasure H2633 and precious things H3366 ; they have made her many H7235 widows H490 in the midst H8432 thereof .
26 Her priests H3548 have violated H2554 my law H8451 , and have profaned H2490 mine holy things H6944 : they have put no difference H914 between H996 W-PREP the holy H6944 and profane H2455 , neither H3808 NADV have they showed H3045 difference between H996 W-PREP the unclean H2931 and the clean H2889 , and have hid H5956 their eyes H5869 from my sabbaths H7676 , and I am profaned H2490 among H8432 B-CMS-3MP them .
27 Her princes H8269 in the midst H7130 thereof are like wolves H2061 ravening H2963 the prey H2964 NMS , to shed H8210 L-VQFC blood H1818 NMS , and to destroy H6 souls H5315 , to H4616 L-CONJ get H1214 dishonest gain H1215 .
28 And her prophets H5030 have daubed H2902 them with untempered H8602 AMS mortar , seeing H2374 vanity H7723 NMS , and divining H7080 lies H3577 unto them , saying H559 , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 , when the LORD H3068 W-EDS hath not H3808 NADV spoken H1696 .
29 The people H5971 NMS of the land H776 D-GFS have used H6231 oppression H6233 , and exercised H1497 robbery H1498 , and have vexed H3238 the poor H6041 and needy H34 W-AMS : yea , they have oppressed H6231 the stranger H1616 wrongfully H4941 NMS .
30 And I sought H1245 for a man H376 NMS among H4480 them , that should make up H1443 the hedge H1447 , and stand H5975 in the gap H6556 before H6440 L-CMP me for H1157 PREP the land H776 D-GFS , that I should not H1115 L-NPAR destroy H7843 it : but I found H4672 none H3808 W-NPAR .
31 Therefore have I poured out H8210 mine indignation H2195 upon H5921 PREP-3MP them ; I have consumed H3615 them with the fire H784 of my wrath H5678 : their own way H1870 CMS-3MP have I recompensed H5414 VQQ1MS upon their heads H7218 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
