Numbers 10:18 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 Now the LORD said to Moses,
2 "Make two trumpets of hammered silver for calling the community to assemble and for signaling the breaking of camp.
3 When both trumpets are blown, everyone must gather before you at the entrance of the Tabernacle.
4 But if only one trumpet is blown, then only the leaders-- the heads of the clans of Israel-- must present themselves to you.
5 "When you sound the signal to move on, the tribes camped on the east side of the Tabernacle must break camp and move forward.
6 When you sound the signal a second time, the tribes camped on the south will follow. You must sound short blasts as the signal for moving on.
7 But when you call the people to an assembly, blow the trumpets with a different signal.
8 Only the priests, Aaron's descendants, are allowed to blow the trumpets. This is a permanent law for you, to be observed from generation to generation.
9 "When you arrive in your own land and go to war against your enemies who attack you, sound the alarm with the trumpets. Then the LORD your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies.
10 Blow the trumpets in times of gladness, too, sounding them at your annual festivals and at the beginning of each month. And blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings. The trumpets will remind the LORD your God of his covenant with you. I am the LORD your God."
11 In the second year after Israel's departure from Egypt-- on the twentieth day of the second month-- the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle of the Covenant.
12 So the Israelites set out from the wilderness of Sinai and traveled on from place to place until the cloud stopped in the wilderness of Paran.
13 When the people set out for the first time, following the instructions the LORD had given through Moses,
14 Judah's troops led the way. They marched behind their banner, and their leader was Nahshon son of Amminadab.
15 They were joined by the troops of the tribe of Issachar, led by Nethanel son of Zuar,
16 and the troops of the tribe of Zebulun, led by Eliab son of Helon.
17 Then the Tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonite and Merarite divisions of the Levites were next in the line of march, carrying the Tabernacle with them.
18 Reuben's troops went next, marching behind their banner. Their leader was Elizur son of Shedeur.
19 They were joined by the troops of the tribe of Simeon, led by Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,
20 and the troops of the tribe of Gad, led by Eliasaph son of Deuel.
21 Next came the Kohathite division of the Levites, carrying the sacred objects from the Tabernacle. Before they arrived at the next camp, the Tabernacle would already be set up at its new location.
22 Ephraim's troops went next, marching behind their banner. Their leader was Elishama son of Ammihud.
23 They were joined by the troops of the tribe of Manasseh, led by Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,
24 and the troops of the tribe of Benjamin, led by Abidan son of Gideoni.
25 Dan's troops went last, marching behind their banner and serving as the rear guard for all the tribal camps. Their leader was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
26 They were joined by the troops of the tribe of Asher, led by Pagiel son of Ocran,
27 and the troops of the tribe of Naphtali, led by Ahira son of Enan.
28 This was the order in which the Israelites marched, division by division.
29 One day Moses said to his brother-in-law, Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, "We are on our way to the place the LORD promised us, for he said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised wonderful blessings for Israel!"
30 But Hobab replied, "No, I will not go. I must return to my own land and family."
31 "Please don't leave us," Moses pleaded. "You know the places in the wilderness where we should camp. Come, be our guide.
32 If you do, we'll share with you all the blessings the LORD gives us."
33 They marched for three days after leaving the mountain of the LORD, with the Ark of the LORD's Covenant moving ahead of them to show them where to stop and rest.
34 As they moved on each day, the cloud of the LORD hovered over them.
35 And whenever the Ark set out, Moses would shout, "Arise, O LORD, and let your enemies be scattered! Let them flee before you!"
36 And when the Ark was set down, he would say, "Return, O LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel!"

5 When ye blow H8628 an alarm, H8643 then the camps H4264 that lie H2583 on the east parts H6924 shall go forward. H5265
6 When ye blow H8628 an alarm H8643 the second time, H8145 then the camps H4264 that lie H2583 on the south side H8486 shall take their journey: H5265 they shall blow H8628 an alarm H8643 for their journeys. H4550
7 But when H853 the congregation H6951 is to be gathered together, H6950 ye shall blow, H8628 but ye shall not H3808 sound an alarm. H7321
8 And the sons H1121 of Aaron, H175 the priests, H3548 shall blow H8628 with the trumpets; H2689 and they shall be H1961 to you for an ordinance H2708 forever H5769 throughout your generations. H1755
9 And if H3588 ye go H935 to war H4421 in your land H776 against H5921 the enemy H6862 that oppresseth H6887 you , then ye shall blow an alarm H7321 with the trumpets; H2689 and ye shall be remembered H2142 before H6440 the LORD H3068 your God, H430 and ye shall be saved H3467 from your enemies H4480 H341 .
10 Also in the day H3117 of your gladness, H8057 and in your solemn days, H4150 and in the beginnings H7218 of your months, H2320 ye shall blow H8628 with the trumpets H2689 over H5921 your burnt offerings, H5930 and over H5921 the sacrifices H2077 of your peace offerings; H8002 that they may be H1961 to you for a memorial H2146 before H6440 your God: H430 I H589 am the LORD H3068 your God. 11 And it came to pass H1961 on the twentieth H6242 day of the second H8145 month, H2320 in the second H8145 year, H8141 that the cloud H6051 was taken up H5927 from off H4480 H5921 the tabernacle H4908 of the testimony. H5715
12 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 took H5265 their journeys H4550 out of the wilderness H4480 H4057 of Sinai; H5514 and the cloud H6051 rested H7931 in the wilderness H4057 of Paran. H6290

25 And the standard H1714 of the camp H4264 of the children H1121 of Dan H1835 set forward, H5265 which was the rearward H622 of all H3605 the camps H4264 throughout their hosts: H6635 and over H5921 his host H6635 was Ahiezer H295 the son H1121 of Ammishaddai. H5996
26 And over H5921 the host H6635 of the tribe H4294 of the children H1121 of Asher H836 was Pagiel H6295 the son H1121 of Ocran. H5918
27 And over H5921 the host H6635 of the tribe H4294 of the children H1121 of Naphtali H5321 was Ahira H299 the son H1121 of Enan. H5881
28 Thus H428 were the journeyings H4550 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 according to their armies, H6635 when they set forward. H5265
29 And Moses H4872 said H559 unto Hobab, H2246 the son H1121 of Raguel H7467 the Midianite, H4084 Moses' H4872 father- H2859 in-law, We H587 are journeying H5265 unto H413 the place H4725 of which H834 the LORD H3068 said, H559 I will give H5414 it you: come H1980 thou with H854 us , and we will do thee good: H3190 for H3588 the LORD H3068 hath spoken H1696 good H2896 concerning H5921 Israel. 30 And he said H559 unto H413 him , I will not H3808 go; H1980 but H3588 I H518 will depart H1980 to H413 mine own land, H776 and to H413 my kindred. H4138
31 And he said, H559 Leave H5800 us not, H408 I pray thee; H4994 forasmuch H3588 H5921 H3651 as thou knowest H3045 how we are to encamp H2583 in the wilderness, H4057 and thou mayest be H1961 to us instead of eyes. H5869
32 And it shall be, H1961 if H3588 thou go H1980 with H5973 us, yea , it shall be, H1961 that what H834 goodness H2896 the LORD H3068 shall do H3190 unto H5973 us , the same will we do H3190 unto thee.
33 And they departed H5265 from the mount H4480 H2022 of the LORD H3068 three H7969 days' H3117 journey: H1870 and the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 of the LORD H3068 went H5265 before H6440 them in the three H7969 days' H3117 journey, H1870 to search out H8446 a resting place H4496 for them.
34 And the cloud H6051 of the LORD H3068 was upon H5921 them by day, H3119 when they went H5265 out of H4480 the camp. H4264
35 And it came to pass, H1961 when the ark H727 set forward, H5265 that Moses H4872 said, H559 Rise up, H6965 LORD, H3068 and let thine enemies H341 be scattered; H6327 and let them that hate H8130 thee flee H5127 before H4480 H6440 thee.
36 And when it rested, H5117 he said, H559 Return, H7725 O LORD, H3068 unto the many H7233 thousands H505 of Israel. H3478
