1 ঐ সকল ঘটনার পরে অহশ্বেরশ রাজা অগাগীয় হম্মদাথার পুত্র হামনকে উন্নত করিলেন, উচ্চপদান্বিত করিলেন, এবং তাহার সঙ্গী সমস্ত অধ্যক্ষ অপেক্ষা তাহাকে শ্রেষ্ঠ আসন প্রদান করিলেন।
2 তাহাতে রাজার যে দাসেরা রাজদ্বারে থাকিত, তাহারা সকলে হামনের কাছে নত হইয়া প্রণিপাত করিতে লাগিল, কারণ রাজা তাহার সম্বন্ধে সেইরূপ আজ্ঞা করিয়াছিলেন; কিন্তু মর্দখয় নতও হইতেন না, প্রণিপাতও করিতেন না।
3 তাহাতে রাজার যে দাসগণ রাজদ্বারে থাকিত, তাহারা মর্দখয়কে কহিল, তুমি রাজার আজ্ঞা কেন লঙ্ঘন করিতেছ?
4 এইরূপে তাহারা প্রতিদিন তাঁহাকে বলিত, তথাপি তিনি তাহাদের কথা শুনিতেন না। তাহাতে মর্দখয়ের কথা স্থির থাকে কি না, তাহা জানিবার ইচ্ছাতে তাহারা হামনকে তাহা জ্ঞাত করিল; কেননা মর্দখয় যে যিহূদী, ইহা তিনি তাহাদিগকে বলিয়াছিলেন।
5 আর হামন যখন দেখিল যে, মর্দখয় তাহার কাছে নত হইয়া প্রণিপাত করে না, তখন সে ক্রোধে পরিপূর্ণ হইল।
6 কিন্তু সে কেবল মর্দখয়ের উপরে হস্তক্ষেপ করা লঘু বিষয় মনে করিল, বরং মর্দখয়ের জাতি অবগত হওয়াতে সে অহশ্বেরশ রাজার সমস্ত রাজ্যে সমস্ত যিহূদীকে মর্দখয়ের জাতি বলিয়া বিনষ্ট করিতে চেষ্টা করিল।
7 আর সেই বিষয়ে অহশ্বেরশ রাজার দ্বাদশ বৎসরের প্রথম মাসে অর্থাৎ নীষণ মাসে হামনের সাক্ষাতে ক্রমাগত প্রত্যেক দিনে ও প্রত্যেক মাসে অদর নামক দ্বাদশ মাস পর্য্যন্ত পূর অর্থাৎ গুলিবাঁট করা হইল।
8 পরে হানন অহশ্বেরশ রাজাকে কহিল, আপনার রাজ্যের সমস্ত প্রদেশস্থ জাতিগণের মধ্যে বিকীর্ণ অথচ পৃথক্‌কৃত এক জাতি আছে; অন্য সকল জাতির ব্যবস্থা হইতে তাহাদের ব্যবস্থা ভিন্ন, এবং তাহারা মহারাজের ব্যবস্থা পালন করে না; অতএব তাহাদিগকে থাকিতে দেওয়া মহারাজের অনুপযুক্ত।
9 যদি মহারাজের অভিমত হয়, তবে তাহাদিগকে বিনষ্ট করিতে লেখা যাউক; তাহাতে আমি রাজ-ভাণ্ডারে রাখিবার জন্য কার্য্যকারী লোকদের হস্তে দশ সহস্র তালন্ত রৌপ্য দিব।
10 তখন রাজা আপন হস্ত হইতে অঙ্গুরীয় খুলিয়া যিহূদীদের শত্রু অগাগীয় হম্মদাথার পুত্র হামনকে দিলেন।
11 আর রাজা হামনকে কহিলেন, সেই রৌপ্য ও সেই জাতি তোমাকে দত্ত হইল, তুমি তাহাদের প্রতি যাহা ভাল বুঝ, তাহাই কর।
12 পরে প্রথম মাসের ত্রয়োদশ দিনে রাজ-লেখকেরা আহূত হইল; সেই দিন হামনের সমস্ত আজ্ঞানুসারে রাজার নিযুক্ত ক্ষিতিপাল সকলের ও প্রত্যেক প্রদেশের অধ্যক্ষগণের, এবং প্রত্যেক জাতির প্রধানবর্গের কাছে, প্রত্যেক প্রদেশের অক্ষর ও প্রত্যেক জাতির ভাষানুসারে পত্র লিখিত হইল, তাহা অহশ্বেরশ রাজার নামে লিখিত ও রাজার অঙ্গুরীয়ে মুদ্রাঙ্কিত হইল।
13 আর এই মর্ম্মের পত্র ধাবকগণ দ্বারা রাজার অধীন সমস্ত প্রদেশে প্রেরিত হইল যে, এক দিনে অর্থাৎ অদর নামক দ্বাদশ মাসের ত্রয়োদশ দিনে যুবা ও বৃদ্ধ, শিশু ও স্ত্রী শুদ্ধ সমস্ত যিহূদী লোককে সংহার, বধ ও বিনাশ, এবং তাহাদের দ্রব্য লুট করিতে হইবে।
14 সেই আজ্ঞা যেন প্রত্যেক প্রদেশে প্রদত্ত হয়, এই জন্য সেই লিপির এক অনুলিপি সকল জাতির নিকটে প্রচারিত হইল, যাহাতে সেই দিনের জন্য সকলে প্রস্তুত হয়।
15 ধাবকগণ রাজাজ্ঞা পাইয়া সত্বর বাহিরে গেল; এবং সেই আজ্ঞা শূশন রাজধানীতে প্রচারিত হইল; পরে রাজা ও হামন পান করিতে বসিলেন, কিন্তু শূশন নগরের সকল লোক উদ্বিগ্ন হইল।
