1 ইলীশামার পৌত্র নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল রাজার প্রধান কর্ম্মচারীদের মধ্যে গণিত রাজবংশীয় ছিল; সপ্তম মাসে সে দশ জন পুরুষকে সঙ্গে লইয়া মিস্পাতে অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিয়ের নিকটে আসিল; আর তাহারা মিস্পাতে একত্র ভোজন করিল।
2 পরে নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল ও তাহার ঐ দশ জন সঙ্গী উঠিয়া বাবিল-রাজের নিযুক্ত দেশাধ্যক্ষকে, শাফনের পৌত্র অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিয়কে, খড়্‌গাঘাতে বধ করিল।
3 আর মিস্পাতে গদলিয়ের সঙ্গে যে সমস্ত যিহূদী ছিল, এবং যে কল্‌দীয়দিগকে সেখানে পাওয়া গেল, তাহাদিগকে, অর্থাৎ যোদ্ধা সকলকে ইশ্মায়েল বধ করিল।
4 সে গদলিয়কে বধ করিলে পর
5 —কেহই সে বিষয় জানিত না—দ্বিতীয় দিনে শিখিম, শীলো ও শমরিয়া হইতে আশী জন পুরুষ আসিতেছিল; তাহারা দাড়ি কাটিয়া, ছিন্নবস্ত্র পরিয়া ও আপন আপন অঙ্গ কাটাকুটি করিয়া সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে উৎসর্গ করণার্থে নৈবেদ্য ও ধূপ হস্তে লইয়া আসিতেছিল।
6 আর নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল তাহাদের সহিত সাক্ষাৎ করিবার জন্য মিস্পা হইতে নির্গত হইয়া রোদন করিতে করিতে বাহিরে গেল, এবং তাহাদের সহিত সাক্ষাৎ হইলে তাহাদিগকে কহিল, অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিয়ের কাছে চল।
7 পরে তাহারা নগরের মধ্যস্থানে আসিলে নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল ও তাহার সঙ্গী পুরুষেরা তাহাদিগকে বধ করিয়া তথাকার কূপমধ্যে নিক্ষেপ করিল।
8 কিন্তু তাহাদের মধ্যে দশ জনকে পাওয়া গেল, যাহারা ইশ্মায়েলকে কহিল, আমাদিগকে বধ করিবেন না, কেননা ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের গোম, যব, তৈল, ও মধুর গুপ্ত ভাণ্ডার আছে। তাহাতে সে ক্ষান্ত হইল, তাহাদের ভ্রাতৃগণের মধ্যে তাহাদিগকে বধ করিল না।
9 ঐ লোকদিগকে বধ করিলে পর ইশ্মায়েল যে কূপে তাহাদের শব গদলিয়ের পার্শ্বে ফেলিয়া দিয়াছিল, তাহা আসা রাজা ইস্রায়েল-রাজ বাশার ভয়ে প্রস্তুত করিয়াছিলেন; নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল তাহাই নিহতগণের শবে পরিপূর্ণ করিল।
10 পরে ইশ্মায়েল মিস্পাতে অবশিষ্ট সমস্ত লোককে বন্দি করিয়া লইয়া গেল, রাজকুমারীগণ ও যে সমস্ত লোক মিস্পাতে অবশিষ্ট ছিল, যাহাদিগকে নবূষরদন রক্ষক-সেনাপতি অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিয়ের কাছে সমর্পণ করিয়াছিলেন, তাহাদিগকে নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল বন্দি করিয়া অম্মোন-সন্তানদের কাছে যাইবার জন্য প্রস্থান করিল।
11 কিন্তু কারেহের পুত্র যোহানন ও তাহার সঙ্গী সেনাপতিরা সকলে যখন শুনিতে পাইল যে, নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল এই সকল দুষ্ক্রিয়া করিয়াছে,
12 তখন তাহারা সমস্ত লোককে লইয়া নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েলের সহিত যুদ্ধ করিতে গেল, এবং গিবিয়োনে স্থিত বৃহৎ জলাশয়ের নিকটে তাহার দেখা পাইল।
13 তখন ইশ্মায়েলের সঙ্গে যে সকল লোক ছিল, তাহারা কারেহের পুত্র যোহাননকে ও তাহার সঙ্গী সেনাপতিদিগকে দেখিয়া আনন্দিত হইল।
14 আর ইশ্মায়েল সেই যে সকল লোককে বন্দি করিয়া মিস্পা হইতে লইয়া যাইতেছিল, তাহারা ঘুরিয়া কারেহের পুত্র যোহাননের নিকটে ফিরিয়া আসিল।
15 কিন্তু নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল আট জন লোকের সহিত যোহাননের সম্মুখ হইতে পলায়ন করিয়া অম্মোন-সন্তানদের কাছে গেল।
16 নথনিয়ের পুত্র যে ইশ্মায়েল অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিয়কে বধ করিয়াছিল, তাহার নিকট হইতে কারেহের পুত্র যোহানন ও তাহার সঙ্গী সেনাপতিগণ যে সকল অবশিষ্ট লোককে মিস্পা হইতে ফিরাইয়া আনিয়াছিল, তাহাদিগকে সঙ্গে লইল, অর্থাৎ যুদ্ধকুশল পুরুষদিগকে এবং গিবিয়োন হইতে আনীত স্ত্রীলোক, বালকবালিকা, ও নপুংসকদিগকে সঙ্গে লইল;
17 আর তাহারা কল্‌দীয়দের ভয়প্রযুক্ত মিসরে যাইবার জন্য বৈৎলেহমের পার্শ্বে কিমহমের যে সরাইখানা আছে, তথায় প্রবাস করিল।
18 কেননা নথনিয়ের পুত্র ইশ্মায়েল বাবিল-রাজের নিযুক্ত দেশাধ্যক্ষ অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিয়কে বধ করিয়াছিল, তজ্জন্য তাহারা কল্‌দীয়দের হইতে ভীত হইয়াছিল।

15 But Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah H5418 escaped H4422 from H4480 H6440 Johanan H3110 with eight H8083 men, H376 and went H1980 to H413 the Ammonites H1121 H5983 .
16 Then took H3947 Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 and all H3605 the captains H8269 of the forces H2428 that H834 were with H854 him, H853 all H3605 the remnant H7611 of the people H5971 whom H834 he had recovered H7725 from H4480 H854 Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 from H4480 Mizpah, H4709 after H310 that he had slain H5221 H853 Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam, H296 even mighty H1397 men H376 of war, H4421 and the women, H802 and the children, H2945 and the eunuchs, H5631 whom H834 he had brought again H7725 from Gibeon H4480 H1391 :
17 And they departed, H1980 and dwelt H3427 in the habitation H1628 of Chimham, H3643 which H834 is by H681 Bethlehem, H1035 to go H1980 to enter into H935 Egypt, H4714
