1 আমি প্রকৃত দ্রাক্ষালতা, এবং আমার পিতা কৃষক।
2 আমাতে স্থিত যে কোন শাখায় ফল না ধরে, তাহা তিনি কাটিয়া ফেলিয়া দেন; এবং যে কোন শাখায় ফল ধরে, তাহা পরিষ্কার করেন, যেন তাহাতে আরও অধিক ফল ধরে।
3 আমি তোমাদিগকে যে বাক্য বলিয়াছি, তৎপ্রযুক্ত তোমরা এখন পরিষ্কৃত আছ।
4 আমাতে থাক, আর আমি তোমাদিগেতে থাকি; শাখা যেমন আপনা হইতে ফল ধরিতে পারে না, দ্রাক্ষালতায় না থাকিলে পারে না, তদ্রূপ আমাতে না থাকিলে তোমরাও পার না।
5 আমি দ্রাক্ষালতা, তোমরা শাখা; যে আমাতে থাকে, এবং যাহাতে আমি থাকি, সেই ব্যক্তি প্রচুর ফলে ফলবান্‌ হয়; কেননা আমা ভিন্ন তোমরা কিছুই করিতে পার না।
6 কেহ যদি আমাতে না থাকে, তাহা হইলে শাখার ন্যায় তাহাকে বাহিরে ফেলিয়া দেওয়া যায় ও সে শুকাইয়া যায়; এবং লোকে সেগুলি কুড়াইয়া আগুনে ফেলিয়া দেয়, আর সে সকল পুড়িয়া যায়।
7 তোমরা যদি আমাতে থাক, এবং আমার বাক্য যদি তোমাদিগেতে থাকে, তবে তোমাদের যাহা ইচ্ছা হয়, যাচ্ঞা করিও, তোমাদের জন্য তাহা করা যাইবে।
8 ইহাতেই আমার পিতা মহিমান্বিত হন যে, তোমরা প্রচুর ফলে ফলবান্‌ হও; আর তোমরা আমার শিষ্য হইবে।
9 পিতা যেমন আমাকে প্রেম করিয়াছেন, আমিও তেমনি তোমাদিগকে প্রেম করিয়াছি; তোমরা আমার প্রেমে অবস্থিতি কর।
10 তোমরা যদি আমার আজ্ঞা সকল পালন কর, তবে আমার প্রেমে অবস্থিতি করিবে, যেমন আমিও আমার পিতার আজ্ঞা সকল পালন করিয়াছি, এবং তাঁহার প্রেমে অবস্থিতি করিতেছি।
11 এই সকল কথা তোমাদিগকে বলিয়াছি, যেন আমার আনন্দ তোমাদিগেতে থাকে, এবং তোমাদের আনন্দ সম্পূর্ণ হয়।
12 আমার আজ্ঞা এই, তোমরা পরস্পর প্রেম কর, যেমন আমি তোমাদিগকে প্রেম করিয়াছি।
13 কেহ যে আপন বন্ধুদের নিমিত্ত নিজ প্রাণ সমর্পণ করে, ইহা অপেক্ষা অধিক প্রেম কাহারও নাই।
14 আমি তোমাদিগকে যাহা কিছু আজ্ঞা দিতেছি, তাহা যদি পালন কর, তবে তোমরা আমার বন্ধু।
15 আমি তোমাদিগকে আর দাস বলি না, কেননা প্রভু কি করেন, দাস তাহা জানে না; কিন্তু তোমাদিগকে আমি বন্ধু বলিয়াছি, কারণ আমার পিতার নিকটে যাহা যাহা শুনিয়াছি, সকলই তোমাদিগকে জ্ঞাত করিয়াছি।
16 তোমরা যে আমাকে মনোনীত করিয়াছ, এমন নয়, কিন্তু আমিই তোমাদিগকে মনোনীত করিয়াছি; আর আমি তোমাদিগকে নিযুক্ত করিয়াছি, যেন তোমরা গিয়া ফলবান্‌ হও, এবং তোমাদের ফল যেন থাকে; যেন তোমরা আমার নামে পিতার নিকটে যাহা কিছু যাচ্ঞা করিবে, তাহা তিনি তোমাদিগকে দেন।
17 এই সকল তোমাদিগকে আজ্ঞা করিতেছি, যেন তোমরা পরস্পর প্রেম কর।
18 জগৎ যদি তোমাদিগকে দ্বেষ করে, তোমরা ত জান, সে তোমাদের অগ্রে আমাকে দ্বেষ করিয়াছে।
19 তোমরা যদি জগতের হইতে, তবে জগৎ আপনার নিজস্ব ভাল বাসিত; কিন্তু তোমরা ত জগতের নহ, বরং আমি তোমাদিগকে জগতের মধ্য হইতে মনোনীত করিয়াছি, এই জন্য জগৎ তোমাদিগকে দ্বেষ করে।
20 আমি তোমাদিগকে যাহা বলিয়াছি, আমার সেই বাক্য স্মরণে রাখিও, ‘দাস আপন প্রভু হইতে বড় নয়;’ লোকে যখন আমাকে তাড়না করিয়াছে, তখন তোমাদিগকেও তাড়না করিবে; তাহারা যদি আমার বাক্য পালন করিত, তোমাদের বাক্যও পালন করিত।
21 কিন্তু তাহারা আমার নামের জন্য তোমাদের প্রতি এই সমস্ত করিবে, কারণ আমাকে যিনি পাঠাইয়াছেন, তাঁহাকে তাহারা জানে না।
22 আমি যদি না আসিতাম, ও তাহাদের কাছে কথা না বলিতাম, তবে তাহাদের পাপ হইত না; কিন্তু এখন তাহাদের পাপ ঢাকিবার উপায় নাই।
23 যে আমাকে দ্বেষ করে, সে আমার পিতাকেও দ্বেষ করে।
24 যেরূপ কার্য্য আর কেহ কখনও করে নাই, সেইরূপ কার্য্য যদি আমি তাহাদের মধ্যে না করিতাম, তবে তাহাদের পাপ হইত না; কিন্তু এখন তাহারা আমাকে ও আমার পিতাকে, উভয়কেই দেখিয়াছে, এবং দ্বেষ করিয়াছে।
25 কিন্তু এরূপ হইল, যেন তাহাদের ব্যবস্থায় লিখিত এই বাক্য পূর্ণ হয়, “তাহারা অকারণে আমাকে দ্বেষ করিয়াছে” ।
26 যাঁহাকে আমি পিতার নিকট হইতে তোমাদের কাছে পাঠাইয়া দিব, সত্যের সেই আত্মা, যিনি পিতার নিকট হইতে বাহির হইয়া আইসেন—যখন সেই সহায় আসিবেন—তিনিই আমার বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিবেন।
27 আর তোমরাও সাক্ষী, কারণ তোমরা প্রথম হইতে আমার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আছ।
