1 পরে ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণ সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যাহা মন্দ, তাহাই পুনর্ব্বার করিল; তাহাতে সদাপ্রভু চল্লিশ বৎসর তাহাদিগকে পলেষ্টীয়দের হস্তে সমর্পণ করিলেন।
2 তৎকালে দানীয় গোষ্ঠীর মধ্যে সরানিবাসী মানোহ নামে এক ব্যক্তি ছিলেন, তাঁহার স্ত্রী বন্ধ্যা হওয়াতে সন্তান হয় নাই।
3 পরে সদাপ্রভুর দূত সেই স্ত্রীকে দর্শন দিয়া কহিলেন, দেখ, তুমি বন্ধ্যা, তোমার সন্তান হয় না, কিন্তু গর্ভধারণ করিয়া পুত্র প্রসব করিবে।
4 অতএব সাবধান, দ্রাক্ষারস কি সুরা পান করিও না, এবং কোন অশুচি বস্তু ভোজন করিও না।
5 কারণ দেখ, তুমি গর্ভধারণ করিয়া পুত্র প্রসব করিবে; আর তাহার মস্তকে ক্ষুর উঠিবে না, কেননা সেই বালক গর্ভহইতেই ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে নাসরীয় হইবে, এবং সে পলেষ্টীয়দের হস্ত হইতে ইস্রায়েলকে নিস্তার করিতে আরম্ভ করিবে।
6 তখন সেই স্ত্রী আসিয়া আপন স্বামীকে কহিলেন, ঈশ্বরের এক জন লোক আমার কাছে আসিয়াছিলেন, তাঁহার রূপ ঈশ্বরীয় দূতের রূপের ন্যায়, অতি ভয়ঙ্কর; তিনি কোথা হইতে আসিলেন, তাহা আমি তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করি নাই, আর তিনিও আমাকে তাঁহার নাম বলেন নাই।
7 কিন্তু তিনি আমাকে কহিলেন, দেখ, তুমি গর্ভধারণ করিয়া পুত্র প্রসব করিবে; এখন দ্রাক্ষারস কিম্বা সুরা পান করিও না, এবং কোন অশুচি বস্তু ভোজন করিও না, কেননা সেই বালক গর্ভহইতে মরণ দিন পর্য্যন্ত ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে নাসরীয় হইবে।
8 তখন মানোহ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে বিনতি করিয়া কহিলেন, হে প্রভু, ঈশ্বরের যে লোককে আপনি আমাদের কাছে পাঠাইয়াছিলেন, তাঁহাকে পুনর্ব্বার আমাদের কাছে আসিতে দিউন, এবং যে বালকটী জন্মিবে, তাহার প্রতি আমাদের কি কর্ত্তব্য, তাহা আমাদিগকে বুঝাইয়া দিউন।
9 তখন ঈশ্বর মানোহের রবে কর্ণপাত করিলেন; ঈশ্বরের সেই দূত পুনর্ব্বার সেই স্ত্রীর কাছে আসিলেন; সেই সময়ে তিনি ক্ষেত্রে বসিয়াছিলেন; তখন তাঁহার স্বামী মানোহ তাঁহার সঙ্গে ছিলেন না।
10 সেই স্ত্রী শীঘ্র দৌড়িয়া গিয়া আপন স্বামীকে সংবাদ দিলেন, তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, দেখ, সে দিন যে লোকটী আমার কাছে আসিয়াছিলেন, তিনি আমাকে দর্শন দিয়াছেন।
11 মানোহ উঠিয়া আপন স্ত্রীর পশ্চাতে পশ্চাতে গেলেন, এবং সেই ব্যক্তির কাছে গিয়া তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিলেন, এই স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে যিনি কথা বলিয়াছিলেন, আপনি কি সেই ব্যক্তি? তিনি কহিলেন, আমিই সেই।
12 মানোহ কহিলেন, এখন আপনার বাক্য সফল হউক; সেই বালকের প্রতি কি বিধি ও কি কর্ত্তব্য?
13 সদাপ্রভুর দূত মানোহকে কহিলেন, আমি ঐ স্ত্রীকে যে সমস্ত কথা বলিয়াছি সে সকল বিষয়ে সে সাবধান থাকুক।
14 সে দ্রাক্ষালতাজাত কোন বস্তু ভোজন করিবে না, দ্রাক্ষারস কি সুরা পান করিবে না, এবং কোন অশুচি দ্রব্য ভোজন করিবে না; আমি তাহাকে যাহা কিছু আজ্ঞা করিয়াছি, সে তাহা পালন করুক।
15 পরে মানোহ সদাপ্রভুর দূতকে কহিলেন, বিনয় করি, কিঞ্চিৎ বিলম্ব করুন, আমরা আপনার জন্য একটী ছাগবৎস প্রস্তুত করি।
16 সদাপ্রভুর দূত মানোহকে কহিলেন, তুমি আমাকে বিলম্ব করাইলেও আমি তোমার খাদ্য দ্রব্য ভোজন করিব না; আর তুমি যদি হোমবলি উৎসর্গ কর, তবে সদাপ্রভুরই উদ্দেশে তাহা কর। বস্তুতঃ তিনি যে সদাপ্রভুর দূত, তাহা মানোহ জানিতে পারেন নাই।
17 পরে মানোহ সদাপ্রভুর দূতকে কহিলেন, আপনার নাম কি? আপনার বাক্য সফল হইলে আমরা আপনার গৌরব করিব।
18 সদাপ্রভুর দূত কহিলেন, কেন আমার নাম জিজ্ঞাসা করিতেছ? তাহা ত আশ্চর্য্য।
19 পরে মানোহ ঐ ছাগবৎস ও ভক্ষ্য নৈবেদ্য লইয়া সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে শৈলের উপরে উৎসর্গ করিলেন; তাহাতে ঐ দূত, আশ্চর্য্য ব্যাপার সাধন করিলেন, মানোহ ও তাঁহার স্ত্রী তাহা দেখিতেছিলেন।
20 যখন অগ্নিশিখা বেদি হইতে আকাশের দিকে উঠিল, তখন সদাপ্রভুর দূত ঐ বেদির শিখাতে উঠিলেন; আর মানোহ ও তাঁহার স্ত্রী দৃষ্টিপাত করিলেন; এবং তাঁহারা ভূমিতে উবুড় হইয়া পড়িলেন।
21 তৎপরে সদাপ্রভুর দূত মানোহকে ও তাঁহার স্ত্রীকে আর দর্শন দিলেন না; তখন তিনি যে সদাপ্রভুর দূত, ইহা মানোহ জানিতে পারিলেন।
22 পরে মানোহ আপন স্ত্রীকে কহিলেন আমরা অবশ্য মারা পড়িব, কারণ ঈশ্বরকে দেখিয়াছি।
23 কিন্তু তাঁহার স্ত্রী কহিলেন, আমাদিগকে বধ করা যদি সদাপ্রভুর অভিরুচি হইত, তবে তিনি আমাদের হস্ত হইতে হোম ও ভক্ষ্য-নৈবেদ্য গ্রহণ করিতেন না, এবং এই সকল আমাদিগকে দেখাইতেন না, আর এই সময় আমাদিগকে এমন সকল কথাও শুনাইতেন না।
24 পরে ঐ স্ত্রী পুত্র প্রসব করিয়া তাঁহার নাম শিম্‌শোন রাখিলেন। আর বালকটী বাড়িয়া উঠিলেন, ও সদাপ্রভু তাঁহাকে আশীর্ব্বাদ করিলেন।
25 আর সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা প্রথমে সরার ও ইষ্টায়োলের মধ্যস্থানে, মহনেদানে, তাঁহাকে চালাইতে লাগিলেন।

2 And there was H1961 a certain H259 man H376 of Zorah H4480 H6681 , of the family H4480 H4940 of the Danites, H1839 whose name H8034 was Manoah; H4495 and his wife H802 was barren, H6135 and bore H3205 not. H3808
3 And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 appeared H7200 unto H413 the woman, H802 and said H559 unto H413 her, Behold H2009 now, H4994 thou H859 art barren, H6135 and bearest H3205 not: H3808 but thou shalt conceive, H2029 and bear H3205 a son. H1121
4 Now H6258 therefore beware, H8104 I pray thee, H4994 and drink H8354 not H408 wine H3196 nor strong drink, H7941 and eat H398 not H408 any H3605 unclean H2931 thing :
5 For H3588 , lo, H2009 thou shalt conceive, H2029 and bear H3205 a son; H1121 and no H3808 razor H4177 shall come H5927 on H5921 his head: H7218 for H3588 the child H5288 shall be H1961 a Nazarite H5139 unto God H430 from H4480 the womb: H990 and he H1931 shall begin H2490 to deliver H3467 H853 Israel H3478 out of the hand H4480 H3027 of the Philistines. 6 Then the woman H802 came H935 and told H559 her husband, H376 saying, H559 A man H376 of God H430 came H935 unto H413 me , and his countenance H4758 was like the countenance H4758 of an angel H4397 of God, H430 very H3966 terrible: H3372 but I asked H7592 him not H3808 whence H335 H4480 H2088 he H1931 was , neither H3808 told H5046 he me his name: H8034
7 But he said H559 unto me, Behold, H2009 thou shalt conceive, H2029 and bear H3205 a son; H1121 and now H6258 drink H8354 no H408 wine H3196 nor strong drink, H7941 neither H408 eat H398 any H3605 unclean H2932 thing : for H3588 the child H5288 shall be H1961 a Nazarite H5139 to God H430 from H4480 the womb H990 to H5704 the day H3117 of his death. H4194
8 Then Manoah H4495 entreated H6279 H413 the LORD, H3068 and said, H559 O H994 my Lord, H136 let the man H376 of God H430 which H834 thou didst send H7971 come H935 again H5750 unto H413 us , and teach H3384 us what H4100 we shall do H6213 unto the child H5288 that shall be born. H3205
9 And God H430 hearkened H8085 to the voice H6963 of Manoah; H4495 and the angel H4397 of God H430 came H935 again H5750 unto H413 the woman H802 as she H1931 sat H3427 in the field: H7704 but Manoah H4495 her husband H376 was not H369 with H5973 her.
10 And the woman H802 made haste, H4116 and ran, H7323 and showed H5046 her husband, H376 and said H559 unto H413 him, Behold, H2009 the man H376 hath appeared H7200 unto H413 me, that H834 came H935 unto H413 me the other day. H3117
11 And Manoah H4495 arose, H6965 and went H1980 after H310 his wife, H802 and came H935 to H413 the man, H376 and said H559 unto him, Art thou H859 the man H376 that H834 spakest H1696 unto H413 the woman H802 ? And he said, H559 I H589 am .
12 And Manoah H4495 said, H559 Now H6258 let thy words H1697 come to pass. H935 How H4100 shall we order H1961 H4941 the child, H5288 and how shall we do H4639 unto him?
13 And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 said H559 unto H413 Manoah, H4495 Of all H4480 H3605 that H834 I said H559 unto H413 the woman H802 let her beware. H8104
14 She may not H3808 eat H398 of any H4480 H3605 thing that H834 cometh H3318 of the vine H4480 H1612 , neither H408 let her drink H8354 wine H3196 or strong drink, H7941 nor H408 eat H398 any H3605 unclean H2932 thing : all H3605 that H834 I commanded H6680 her let her observe. H8104
15 And Manoah H4495 said H559 unto H413 the angel H4397 of the LORD, H3068 I pray thee, H4994 let us detain H6113 thee , until we shall have made ready H6213 a kid H1423 H5795 for H6440 thee.
16 And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 said H559 unto H413 Manoah, H4495 Though H518 thou detain H6113 me , I will not H3808 eat H398 of thy bread: H3899 and if H518 thou wilt offer H6213 a burnt offering, H5930 thou must offer H5927 it unto the LORD. H3068 For H3588 Manoah H4495 knew H3045 not H3808 that H3588 he H1931 was an angel H4397 of the LORD. H3068
17 And Manoah H4495 said H559 unto H413 the angel H4397 of the LORD, H3068 What H4310 is thy name, H8034 that when H3588 thy sayings H1697 come to pass H935 we may do thee honor H3513 ?
18 And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 said H559 unto him, Why H4100 askest H7592 thou thus H2088 after my name, H8034 seeing it H1931 is secret H6383 ?
19 So Manoah H4495 took H3947 H853 a kid H1423 H5795 with H854 a meat offering, H4503 and offered H5927 it upon H5921 a rock H6697 unto the LORD: H3068 and the angel did H6213 wondrously; H6381 and Manoah H4495 and his wife H802 looked on. H7200
20 For it came to pass, H1961 when the flame H3851 went up H5927 toward heaven H8064 from off H4480 H5921 the altar, H4196 that the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 ascended H5927 in the flame H3851 of the altar. H4196 And Manoah H4495 and his wife H802 looked on H7200 it , and fell H5307 on H5921 their faces H6440 to the ground. H776
21 But the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 did no H3808 more H3254 appear H7200 to H413 Manoah H4495 and to H413 his wife. H802 Then H227 Manoah H4495 knew H3045 that H3588 he H1931 was an angel H4397 of the LORD. H3068
22 And Manoah H4495 said H559 unto H413 his wife, H802 We shall surely die H4191 H4191 , because H3588 we have seen H7200 God. H430
23 But his wife H802 said H559 unto him, If H3863 the LORD H3068 were pleased H2654 to kill H4191 us , he would not H3808 have received H3947 a burnt offering H5930 and a meat offering H4503 at our hands H4480 H3027 , neither H3808 would he have showed H7200 us H853 all H3605 these H428 things , nor H3808 would as at this time H6256 have told H8085 us such things as these. 24 And the woman H802 bore H3205 a son, H1121 and called H7121 H853 his name H8034 Samson: H8123 and the child H5288 grew, H1431 and the LORD H3068 blessed H1288 him.
25 And the Spirit H7307 of the LORD H3068 began H2490 to move H6470 him at times in the camp H4264 of Dan H1835 between H996 Zorah H6881 and Eshtaol. H847
