1 ধিক্‌ আমাকে! কেননা আমি গ্রীষ্মকালীন ফল পাড়িবার কিম্বা দ্রাক্ষাচয়নের পরে চয়নকারীদের সদৃশ হইয়াছি; খাইবার যোগ্য একটী দ্রাক্ষাগুচ্ছ নাই; আমার প্রাণ আশুপক্ব ডুমুরফলের আকাঙ্ক্ষা করিতেছে।
2 পৃথিবী হইতে সাধু উচ্ছিন্ন হইয়াছে, মনুষ্যদের মধ্যে সরল লোক একেবারে নাই; সকলেই রক্তপাত করণার্থে ঘাঁটি বসায়; প্রত্যেক জন আপন আপন ভ্রাতাকে জালে বদ্ধ করিতে চেষ্টা পায়।
3 যাহা মন্দ, তাহা সযত্নে করিবার জন্য তাহাদের উভয় হস্ত ব্যতিব্যস্ত; অধ্যক্ষ অর্থ চাহে, বিচারকর্ত্তা উপহার গ্রহণে প্রস্তুত; এবং বড় মানুষ আপন প্রাণের দুষ্টতা মুখে ব্যক্ত করে; তাহারা তাহা জালবৎ বুনে।
4 তাহাদের মধ্যে যে ব্যক্তি উত্তম, সে শ্যাকুলের ন্যায়; আর যে অতি সরল, সে কন্টকময় বেড়া হইতে মন্দ; তোমার প্রহরিগণের দিন, তোমার সমুচিত দণ্ড, আসিতেছে; এখন তাহাদের ব্যাকুলতা জন্মিবে।
5 তোমরা সখাতে প্রত্যয় করিও না; আত্মীয়েতেও বিশ্বাস করিও না; তোমার বক্ষঃস্থলে শয়নকারিণী স্ত্রীর কাছেও আপন মুখের দ্বার রক্ষা কর।
6 কেননা পুত্র পিতাকে লঘুজ্ঞান করে, কন্যা আপন মাতার, ও পুত্রবধূ আপন শাশুড়ীর বিরুদ্ধে উঠে, আপন আপন পরিজনই মনুষ্যের শত্রু।
7 কিন্তু আমি সদাপ্রভুর প্রতি দৃষ্টি রাখিব, আমার ত্রাণেশ্বরের অপেক্ষা করিব; আমার ঈশ্বর আমার বাক্য শুনিবেন।
8 হে আমার বিদ্বেষিণি, আমার বিরুদ্ধে আনন্দ করিও না; পতিত হইলেও আমি উঠিব, অন্ধকারে বসিলেও সদাপ্রভু আমার আলোকস্বরূপ হইবেন।
9 আমি সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ বহন করিব, কারণ আমি তাঁহার বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করিয়াছি; শেষে তিনি আমার বিবাদে পক্ষবাদী হইয়া আমার বিচার নিষ্পত্তি করিবেন; তিনি আমাকে বাহির করিয়া আলোকে আনিবেন, আমি তাঁহার ধর্ম্মশীলতা দর্শন করিব।
10 তাহা দেখিয়া আমার বিদ্বেষিণী লজ্জায় আচ্ছন্ন হইবে; সে ত আমাকে বলিত, ‘তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু কোথায়?’ আমি স্বচক্ষে তাহাকে দেখিব; এখন সে পথের কর্দ্দমের ন্যায় পদতলে দলিতা হইবে।
11 তোমার প্রাচীর গাঁথিবার দিন। সেই দিন সীমা দূরে অন্তরিত হইবে।
12 সেই দিন তোমার কাছে লোকেরা আসিবে, অশূর হইতে ও মিসরের নগর-সমূহ হইতে, মিসর হইতে ফরাৎ নদী পর্য্যন্ত, আর সমুদ্র হইতে সমুদ্র, এবং পর্ব্বত হইতে পর্ব্বত পর্য্যন্ত আসিবে।
13 তথাপি অধিবাসিগণের দোষে, তাহাদের কর্ম্মকাণ্ডের ফলরূপে, দেশ ধ্বংসস্থান হইয়া যাইবে।
14 তুমি আপন পাঁচনী লইয়া আপন প্রজাগণকে, স্বতন্ত্র বাসকারী আপনার অধিকারস্বরূপ পাল্‌কে, কর্মিলের মধ্যস্থিত অরণ্যে চরাও; পূর্ব্বকালে যেমন চরিত, তেমনি তাহারা বাশনে ও গিলিয়দে চরুক।
15 মিসর দেশ হইতে তোমার বাহির হইয়া আসিবার দিনের ন্যায় আমি তাহাদিগকে আশ্চর্য্য আশ্চর্য্য কর্ম্ম দেখাইব।
16 জাতিগণ দেখিয়া আপনাদের সমস্ত পরাক্রমের বিষয়ে লজ্জিত হইবে; তাহারা মুখে হস্ত দিবে, ও তাহাদের কর্ণ বধির হইবে।
17 তাহারা সর্পের ন্যায় ধূলা চাটিবে, তাহারা কাঁপিতে কাঁপিতে ভূমিস্থ কিঞ্চুলুকার ন্যায় আপন আপন গোপনীয় স্থান হইতে বাহির হইয়া আসিবে; তাহারা সভয়ে আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নিকটে আসিবে ও তোমা হইতে ভীত হইবে।
18 কে তোমার তুল্য ঈশ্বর? —অপরাধ ক্ষমাকারী, ও আপন অধিকারের অবশিষ্টাংশের অধর্ম্মের প্রতি উপেক্ষাকারি! তিনি চিরকাল ক্রোধ রাখেন না, কারণ তিনি দয়ায় প্রীত।
19 তিনি ফিরিয়া আমাদের প্রতি করুণা করিবেন; তিনি আমাদের অপরাধ সকল পদতলে মর্দ্দিত করিবেন; হাঁ, তুমি আপন লোকদের সমস্ত পাপ সমুদ্রের অগাধ জলে নিক্ষেপ করিবে।
20 তুমি যাকোবের নিমিত্ত সেই সত্য ও অব্রাহামের নিমিত্ত সেই দয়া সাধন করিবে, যাহা পূর্ব্বকাল হইতে আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছে শপথ করিয়াছিলে।
