Genesis 50:1 (NIV) New International Version

1 Joseph threw himself upon his father and wept over him and kissed him.
2 Then Joseph directed the physicians in his service to embalm his father Israel. So the physicians embalmed him,
3 taking a full forty days, for that was the time required for embalming. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.
4 When the days of mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh's court, "If I have found favour in your eyes, speak to Pharaoh for me. Tell him,
5 `My father made me swear an oath and said, "I am about to die; bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan." Now let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.'"
6 Pharaoh said, "Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do."
7 So Joseph went up to bury his father. All Pharaoh's officials accompanied him--the dignitaries of his court and all the dignitaries of Egypt--
8 besides all the members of Joseph's household and his brothers and those belonging to his father's household. Only their children and their flocks and herds were left in Goshen.
9 Chariots and horsemen also went up with him. It was a very large company.
10 When they reached the threshing-floor of Atad, near the Jordan, they lamented loudly and bitterly; and there Joseph observed a seven-day period of mourning for his father.
11 When the Canaanites who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing-floor of Atad, they said, "The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning." That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.
12 So Jacob's sons did as he had commanded them:
13 They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre, which Abraham had bought as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite, along with the field.
14 After burying his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, together with his brothers and all the others who had gone with him to bury his father.
15 When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, "What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?"
16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, "Your father left these instructions before he died:
17 `This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.' Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father." When their message came to him, Joseph wept.
18 His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. "We are your slaves," they said.
19 But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
21 So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your children." And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
22 Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father's family. He lived a hundred and ten years
23 and saw the third generation of Ephraim's children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph's knees.
24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."
25 And Joseph made the sons of Israel swear an oath and said, "God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place."
26 So Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And after they embalmed him, he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

2 And Joseph H3130 commanded H6680 W-VPY3MS his servants H5650 the physicians H7495 to embalm H2590 his father H1 CMS-3MS : and the physicians H7495 embalmed H2590 Israel H3478 LMS .
3 And forty H705 MMP days H3117 NMS were fulfilled H4390 for him ; for H3588 CONJ so H3651 ADV are fulfilled H4390 the days H3117 NUM-MS of those which are embalmed H2590 : and the Egyptians H4714 mourned H1058 W-VQY3MP for him threescore and ten H7657 ONUM days H3117 NUM-MS .
4 And when the days H3117 CMP of his mourning H1068 were past H5674 , Joseph H3130 spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP the house H1004 CMS of Pharaoh H6547 EMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , If H518 PART now H4994 IJEC I have found H4672 VQQ1MS grace H2580 NMS in your eyes H5869 , speak H1696 , I pray you H4994 IJEC , in the ears H241 of Pharaoh H6547 EMS , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
5 My father H1 CMS-1MS made me swear H7650 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Lo H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS die H4191 : in my grave H6913 which H834 RPRO I have digged H3738 for me in the land H776 B-GFS of Canaan H3667 LMS , there H8033 ADV-3FS shalt thou bury H6912 me . Now H6258 W-ADV therefore let me go up H5927 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , and bury H6912 my father H1 CMS-1MS , and I will come again H7725 .
6 And Pharaoh H6547 EMS said H559 W-VQY3MS , Go up H5927 , and bury H6912 thy father H1 NMS , according as H834 K-RPRO he made thee swear H7650 .
7 And Joseph H3130 went up H5927 W-VHY3MS to bury H6912 his father H1 CMS-3MS : and with H854 PREP-3MS him went up H5927 all H3605 NMS the servants H5650 of Pharaoh H6547 EMS , the elders H2205 of his house H1004 CMS-3MS , and all H3605 NMS the elders H2205 of the land H776 of Egypt H4714 ,
8 And all H3605 W-CMS the house H1004 W-NMS of Joseph H3130 , and his brethren H251 , and his father H1 CMS-3MS \'s house H1004 W-NMS : only H7535 ADV their little ones H2945 , and their flocks H6629 , and their herds H1241 , they left H5800 in the land H776 B-GFS of Goshen H1657 .
9 And there went up H5927 W-VHY3MS with H5973 PREP-3MS him both H1571 CONJ chariots H7393 and H1571 CONJ horsemen H6571 : and it was H1961 W-VQY3MS a very H3966 ADV great H3515 VQS3MS company H4264 .
10 And they came H935 W-VQY3MP to H5704 PREP the threshingfloor H1637 of Atad H329 , which H834 RPRO is beyond H5676 Jordan H3383 D-EFS , and there H8033 ADV they mourned H5594 with a great H1419 AMS and very H3966 ADV sore H3515 lamentation H4553 : and he made H6213 W-VQY3MS a mourning H60 for his father H1 seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP .
11 And when the inhabitants H3427 VQPMS of the land H776 D-GFS , the Canaanites H3669 , saw H7200 W-VIY3MS the mourning H60 in the floor H1637 of Atad H329 , they said H559 W-VQY3MP , This H2088 DPRO is a grievous H3515 VQS3MS mourning H60 to the Egyptians H4714 : wherefore H3651 ADV the name H8034 CMS-3FS of it was called H7121 VQQ3MS Abel H67 - mizraim , which H834 RPRO is beyond H5676 Jordan H3383 .
12 And his sons H1121 CMP-3MS did H6213 W-VQY3MP unto him according as ADV he commanded H6680 them :
13 For his sons H1121 CMP-3MS carried H5375 W-VQY3MP him into the land H776 NFS-3FS of Canaan H3667 LMS , and buried H6912 him in the cave H4631 of the field H7704 CMS of Machpelah H4375 , which H834 RPRO Abraham H85 bought H7069 with H854 the field H7704 D-NMS for a possession H272 of a burial place H6913 of Ephron H6085 the Hittite H2850 , before H5921 PREP Mamre H4471 .
14 And Joseph H3130 returned H7725 into Egypt H4714 TFS-3FS , he H1931 PPRO-3MS , and his brethren H251 , and all H3605 W-CMS that went up H5927 with H854 PREP-3MS him to bury H6912 his father H1 CMS-3MS , after H310 PREP he had buried H6912 his father H1 .
15 And when Joseph H3130 \'s brethren H251 saw H7200 W-VQY3MP that H3588 CONJ their father H1 CMS-3MP was dead H4191 , they said H559 W-VQY3MP , Joseph H3130 will peradventure H3863 CONJ hate H7852 us , and will certainly requite H7725 us all H3605 NMS the evil H7451 D-AFS which H834 RPRO we did H1580 unto him .
16 And they sent a messenger H6680 unto H413 PREP Joseph H3130 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Thy father H1 NMS did command H6680 VPQ3MS before H6440 L-CMP he died H4194 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
17 So H3541 shall ye say H559 VQY2MP unto Joseph H3130 , Forgive H5375 VQI2MS , I pray thee H577 now H4994 IJEC , the trespass H6588 of thy brethren H251 CMP-2MS , and their sin H2403 ; for H3588 CONJ they did H1580 unto thee evil H7451 AFS : and now H6258 W-ADV , we pray thee H4994 IJEC , forgive H5375 VQI2MS the trespass H6588 of the servants H5650 of the God H430 CDP of thy father H1 NMS . And Joseph H3130 wept H1058 when they spoke H1696 unto H413 him .
18 And his brethren H251 NMP-3MS also H1571 CONJ went H1980 W-VQY3MP and fell down H5307 before his face H6440 L-CMP-3MS ; and they said H559 W-VQY3MP , Behold H2009 , we be thy servants H5650 .
19 And Joseph H3130 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS them , Fear H3372 not H408 NPAR : for H3588 CONJ am I H589 PPRO-1MS in the place H8478 of God H430 EDP ?
20 But as for you H859 W-PPRO-2MP , ye thought H2803 evil H7451 AFS against H5921 PREP-1MS me ; but God H430 EDP meant H2803 it unto good H2896 , to H4616 L-CONJ bring to pass H6213 , as it is this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 , to save much people alive H2421 L-VHFC .
21 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore fear H3372 ye not H408 NPAR : I H595 PPRO-1MS will nourish H3557 you , and your little ones H2945 . And he comforted H5162 them , and spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS kindly H5921 PREP unto them .
22 And Joseph H3130 dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MS in Egypt H4714 , he H1931 PPRO-3MS , and his father H1 CMS-3MS \'s house H1004 W-NMS : and Joseph H3130 lived H2421 W-VQY3MS a hundred H3967 MFS and ten H6235 years H8141 .
23 And Joseph H3130 saw H7200 W-VIY3MS Ephraim H669 \'s children H1121 of the third H8029 generation : the children H1121 also H1571 CONJ of Machir H4353 the son H1121 of Manasseh H4519 were brought up H3205 VWQ3MP upon H5921 PREP Joseph H3130 \'s knees H1290 .
24 And Joseph H3130 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP his brethren H251 NMP-3MS , I H595 PPRO-1MS die H4191 : and God H430 will surely visit H6485 you , and bring H5927 W-VHQ3MS you out of H4480 PREP this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS unto H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO he swore H7650 to Abraham H85 , to Isaac H3327 , and to Jacob H3290 .
25 And Joseph H3130 took an oath H7650 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , saying H559 L-VQFC , God H430 EDP will surely visit H6485 you , and ye shall carry up H5927 my bones H6106 from hence H2088 .
26 So Joseph H3130 died H4191 W-VQY3MS , being a hundred H3967 MFS and ten H6235 years H8141 NFP old H1121 : and they embalmed H2590 him , and he was put H3455 in a coffin H727 in Egypt H4714 .
