1 Kings 5:1 (NIV) New International Version

1 When Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been anointed king to succeed his father David, he sent his envoys to Solomon, because he had always been on friendly terms with David.
2 Solomon sent back this message to Hiram:
3 "You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD put his enemies under his feet.
4 But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster.
5 I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the LORD my God, as the LORD told my father David, when he said,`Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.'
6 "So give orders that cedars of Lebanon be cut for me. My men will work with yours, and I will pay you for your men whatever wages you set. You know that we have no-one so skilled in felling timber as the Sidonians."
7 When Hiram heard Solomon's message, he was greatly pleased and said, "Praise be to the LORD today, for he has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation."
8 So Hiram sent word to Solomon: "I have received the message you sent me and will do all you want in providing the cedar and pine logs.
9 My men will haul them down from Lebanon to the sea, and I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you specify. There I will separate them and you can take them away. And you are to grant my wish by providing food for my royal household."
10 In this way Hiram kept Solomon supplied with all the cedar and pine logs he wanted,
11 and Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat as food for his household, in addition to twenty thousand baths of pressed olive oil. Solomon continued to do this for Hiram year after year.
12 The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, just as he had promised him. There were peaceful relations between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.
13 King Solomon conscripted labourers from all Israel-- thirty thousand men.
14 He sent them off to Lebanon in shifts of ten thousand a month, so that they spent one month in Lebanon and two months at home. Adoniram was in charge of the forced labour.
15 Solomon had seventy thousand carriers and eighty thousand stonecutters in the hills,
16 as well as thirty-three hundred foremen who supervised the project and directed the workmen.
17 At the king's command they removed from the quarry large blocks of quality stone to provide a foundation of dressed stone for the temple.
18 The craftsmen of Solomon and Hiram and the men of Gebal cut and prepared the timber and stone for the building of the temple.

2 And Solomon H8010 MMS sent H7971 W-VQY3MS to H413 Hiram H2438 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
3 Thou H859 PPRO-2MS knowest H3045 how that David H1732 MMS my father H1 CMS-1MS could H3201 not H3808 NADV build H1129 a house H1004 NMS unto the name H8034 of the LORD H3068 EDS his God H430 CMP-3MS for M-CMP the wars H4421 which H834 were about him on every side H5437 , until H5704 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS put H5414 VQFC them under H8478 NMS the soles H3709 of his feet H7272 .
4 But now H6258 W-ADV the LORD H3068 EDS my God H430 hath given me rest H5117 on every side H5439 M-ADV , so that there is neither H369 NPAR adversary H7854 nor H369 W-NPAR evil H7451 AMS occurrent H6294 .
5 And , behold H2009 , I purpose H559 to build H1129 a house H1004 NMS unto the name H8034 of the LORD H3068 EDS my God H430 , as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 VPQ3MS unto H413 David H1732 MMS my father H1 CMS-1MS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Thy son H1121 , whom H834 I will set H5414 VQY1MS upon H5921 PREP thy throne H3678 in thy room H8478 , he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall build H1129 a house H1004 D-NMS unto my name H8034 .
6 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore command H6680 thou that they hew H3772 me cedar trees H730 out of H4480 Lebanon H3844 ; and my servants H5650 shall be H1961 VQY3MP with H5973 PREP thy servants H5650 : and unto thee will I give H5414 VQY1MS hire H7939 for thy servants H5650 according to all H3605 K-NMS that H834 thou shalt appoint H559 : for H3588 thou H859 PPRO-2MS knowest H3045 that H3588 there is not H369 NPAR among us any H376 that can skill H3045 VQPMS to hew H3772 timber H6086 like unto the Sidonians H6722 .
7 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when Hiram H2438 heard H8085 the words H1697 CMP of Solomon H8010 MMS , that he rejoiced H8055 W-VQY3MS greatly H3966 ADV , and said H559 , Blessed H1288 VWQ3MS be the LORD H3068 EDS this day H3117 D-AMS , which H834 hath given H5414 VQQ3MS unto David H1732 a wise H2450 AMS son H1121 NMS over H5921 PREP this H2088 D-PMS great H7227 people H5971 .
8 And Hiram H2438 sent H7971 W-VQY3MS to H413 Solomon H8010 MMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , I have considered H8085 VQQ1MS the things which H834 thou sentest H7971 to H413 me for : and I H589 PPRO-1MS will do H6213 VQY1MS all H3605 thy desire H2656 concerning timber H6086 of cedar H730 , and concerning timber H6086 of fir H1265 .
9 My servants H5650 shall bring them down H3381 from H4480 Lebanon H3844 unto the sea H3220 : and I H589 PPRO-1MS will convey H7760 them by sea H3220 BD-NMS in floats H1702 unto H5704 the place H4725 D-NMS that H834 thou shalt appoint H7971 VQY2MS me , and will cause them to be discharged H5310 there H8033 ADV , and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS shalt receive H5375 VQY2MS them : and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS shalt accomplish H6213 VQY2MS my desire H2656 CMS-1MS , in giving H5414 L-VQFC food H3899 NMS for my household H1004 .
10 So Hiram H2438 gave H5414 VQPMS Solomon H8010 cedar H730 trees H6086 CMP and fir H1265 trees H6086 according to all H3605 his desire H2656 .
11 And Solomon H8010 gave H5414 VQQ3MS Hiram H2438 twenty H6242 thousand H505 W-BMS measures H3734 of wheat H2406 for food H4361 to his household H1004 L-CMS-3MS , and twenty H6242 W-MMP measures H3734 of pure H3795 oil H8081 : thus H3541 gave H5414 VHFA Solomon H8010 MMS to Hiram H2438 year H8141 NFS by year H8141 .
12 And the LORD H3068 W-EDS gave H5414 VQQ3MS Solomon H8010 wisdom H2451 NFS , as H834 K-RPRO he promised H1696 VPQ3MS him : and there was H1961 W-VQY3MS peace H7965 between H996 Hiram H2438 and Solomon H8010 MMS ; and they two H8147 made a league together H3772 .
13 And king H4428 D-NMS Solomon H8010 MMS raised H5927 W-VHY3MS a levy H4522 out of all H3605 M-CMS Israel H3478 ; and the levy H4522 was H1961 W-VQY3MS thirty H7970 MMP thousand H505 W-BMS men H376 NMS .
14 And he sent H7971 them to Lebanon H3844 , ten H6235 thousand H505 MMP a month H2320 BD-NMS by courses H2487 NFP : a month H2320 they were H1961 VQY3MP in Lebanon H3844 , and two H8147 ONUM months H2320 at home H1004 B-CMS-3MS : and Adoniram H141 was over H5921 PREP the levy H4522 .
15 And Solomon H8010 had H1961 W-VQY3MS threescore and ten H7657 ONUM thousand H505 W-BMS that bore H5375 burdens H5449 , and fourscore H8084 W-MMP thousand H505 W-BMS hewers H2672 in the mountains H2022 ;
16 Beside the chief H905 of Solomon H8010 \'s officers H5324 which H834 were over H5921 PREP the work H4399 , three H7969 BMS thousand H505 MMP and three H7969 W-BFS hundred H3967 BFP , which ruled H7287 over the people H5971 that wrought H6213 in the work H4399 .
17 And the king H4428 D-NMS commanded H6680 W-VPY3MS , and they brought H5265 great H1419 stones H68 NFP , costly H3368 stones H68 NFP , and hewed H1496 stones H68 CMP , to lay the foundation H3245 of the house H1004 .
18 And Solomon H8010 MMS \'s builders H1129 and Hiram H2438 \'s builders H1129 did hew H6458 them , and the stonesquarers H1382 : so they prepared H3559 timber H6086 and stones H68 to build H1129 the house H1004 .
