Romans 2:1 (NIV) New International Version

1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?
4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realising that God's kindness leads you towards repentance?
5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.
6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done".
7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honour and immortality, he will give eternal life.
8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;
10 but glory, honour and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
11 For God does not show favouritism.
12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law,
15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)
16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God;
18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark,
20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth--
21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonour God by breaking the law?
24 As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."
25 Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.
26 If those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised?
27 The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a law-breaker.
28 A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical.
29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.

2 But G1161 CONJ we are sure G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN judgment G2917 N-NSN of God G2316 N-GSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S according G2596 PREP to truth G225 N-ASF against G1909 PREP them G3588 T-APN which G3588 T-APN commit G4238 V-PAP-APM such things G5108 D-APN .
3 And G1161 CONJ thinkest G3049 V-PNI-2S thou this G5124 D-ASN , O G5599 INJ man G444 N-VSM , that judgest G2919 V-PAP-NSM them G3588 T-APN which G3588 T-APN do G4238 V-PAP-APM such things G5108 D-APN , and G2532 CONJ doest G4160 V-PAP-NSM the same G846 P-APN , that G3754 CONJ thou G4771 P-2NS shalt escape G1628 V-FDI-2S the G3588 T-ASN judgment G2917 N-ASN of God G2316 N-GSM ?
4 Or G2228 PRT despisest G2706 V-PAI-2S thou the G3588 T-GSM riches G4149 N-GSM of G3588 T-GSF his G3588 T-GSF goodness G5544 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ forbearance G463 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ longsuffering G3115 N-GSF ; not knowing G50 V-PAP-NSM that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN goodness G5543 A-NSN of God G2316 N-GSM leadeth G71 V-PAI-3S thee G4571 P-2AS to G1519 PREP repentance G3341 N-ASF ?
5 But G1161 CONJ after G2596 PREP thy G3588 T-ASF hardness G4643 N-ASF and G2532 CONJ impenitent G279 A-ASF heart G2588 N-ASF treasurest up G2343 V-PAI-2S unto thyself G4572 F-2DSM wrath G3709 N-ASF against G1722 PREP the day G2250 N-DSF of wrath G3709 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ revelation G602 N-GSF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM righteous judgment G1341 N-GSF of God G2316 N-GSM ;
6 Who G3739 R-NSM will render G591 V-FAI-3S to every man G1538 A-DSM according G2596 PREP to his G3588 T-APN deeds G2041 N-APN :
7 To them who G3303 PRT by G2596 PREP patient continuance G5281 N-ASF in well G18 A-GSN doing G2041 N-GSN seek for G2212 V-PAP-DPM glory G1391 N-ASF and G2532 CONJ honor G5092 N-ASF and G2532 CONJ immortality G861 N-ASF , eternal G166 A-ASF life G2222 N-ASF :
8 But G1161 CONJ unto them that are contentious G2052 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ do not obey G544 V-PAP-DPM the G3588 T-DSF truth G225 N-DSF , but G1161 CONJ obey G3982 V-PMP-DPM unrighteousness G93 N-DSF , indignation G2372 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ wrath G3709 N-NSF ,
9 Tribulation G2347 N-NSF and G2532 CONJ anguish G4730 N-NSF , upon G1909 PREP every G3956 A-ASF soul G5590 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSM man G444 N-GSM that G3588 T-ASN doeth G2716 V-PNP-GSM evil G2556 A-ASN , of the G5037 PRT Jew G2453 A-GSM first G4412 ADV , and G2532 CONJ also of the Gentile G1672 N-GSM ;
10 But G1161 CONJ glory G1391 N-NSF , honor G5092 N-NSF , and G2532 CONJ peace G1515 N-NSF , to every man G3956 A-DSM that G3588 T-ASN worketh G2038 V-PNP-DSM good G18 A-ASN , to the G5037 PRT Jew G2453 A-DSM first G4412 ADV , and G2532 CONJ also to the Gentile G1672 N-DSM :
11 For G1063 CONJ there is G2076 V-PXI-3S no G3756 PRT-N respect of persons G4382 N-NSF with G3844 PREP God G2316 N-DSM .
12 For G1063 CONJ as many as G3745 K-NPM have sinned G264 V-2AAI-3P without law G460 ADV shall also G2532 CONJ perish G622 V-FMI-3P without law G460 ADV : and G2532 CONJ as many as G3745 K-NPM have sinned G264 V-2AAI-3P in G1722 PREP the law G3551 N-DSM shall be judged G2919 V-FPI-3P by G1223 PREP the law G3551 N-GSM ;
13 ( CONJ For CONJ not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-NPM hearers G202 N-NPM of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM are just G1342 A-NPM before G3844 PREP God G2316 N-DSM , but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM doers G4163 N-NPM of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM shall be justified G1344 V-FPI-3P .
14 For G1063 CONJ when G3752 CONJ the Gentiles G1484 N-NPN , which G3588 T-NPN have G2192 V-PAP-NPN not G3361 PRT-N the law G3551 N-ASM , do G4160 V-PAS-3S by nature G5449 N-DSF the things G3588 T-NPN contained in the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM , these G3778 D-NPM , having G2192 V-PAP-NPM not G3361 PRT-N the law G3551 N-ASM , are G1526 V-PXI-3P a law G3551 N-NSM unto themselves G1438 F-3DPM :
15 Which G3748 R-NPM show G1731 V-PMI-3P the G3588 T-ASN work G2041 N-ASN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM written G1123 A-ASN in G1722 PREP their G3588 T-DPF hearts G2588 N-DPF , their G3588 T-GSF conscience G4893 N-GSF also bearing witness G4828 V-PAP-GSF , and G2532 CONJ their thoughts G3053 N-GPM the mean while G3342 ADV accusing G2723 V-PAP-GPM or G2228 PRT else G2532 CONJ excusing G626 V-PNP-GPM one another G240 C-GPM ; )
16 In G1722 PREP the day G2250 N-DSF when G3753 ADV God G2316 N-NSM shall judge G2919 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APN secrets G2927 A-APN of men G444 N-GPM by G1223 PREP Jesus G2424 N-GSM Christ G5547 N-GSM according G2596 PREP to my G3588 T-ASN gospel G2098 N-ASN .
17 Behold G2396 , thou G4771 P-2NS art called G2028 V-PPI-2S a Jew G2453 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ restest in G1879 V-PNI-2S the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM , and G2532 CONJ makest thy boast G2744 V-PNI-2S of G1722 PREP God G2316 N-DSM ,
18 And G2532 CONJ knowest G1097 V-PAI-2S his will G2307 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ approvest G1381 V-PAI-2S the things that are more excellent G1308 V-PAP-APN , being instructed G2727 V-PPP-NSM out of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM ;
19 And G5037 PRT art confident G3982 V-2RAI-2S that thou thyself G4572 F-2ASM art G1511 V-PXN a guide G3595 N-ASM of the blind G5185 A-GPM , a light G5457 N-ASN of G3588 T-GPM them G3588 T-GPM which are in G1722 PREP darkness G4655 N-DSN ,
20 An instructor G3810 N-ASF of the foolish G878 A-GPM , a teacher G1320 N-ASM of babes G3516 A-GPM , which hast G2192 V-PAP-ASM the G3588 T-ASF form G3446 N-ASF of knowledge G1108 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF truth G225 N-GSF in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM .
21 Thou therefore which teachest G1321 V-PAP-NSM another G2087 A-ASM , teachest G1321 V-PAI-2S thou not G3756 PRT-N thyself G4572 F-2ASM ? thou that preachest G2784 V-PAP-NSM a man should not G3361 PRT-N steal G2813 V-PAN , dost thou steal G2813 V-PAI-2S ?
22 Thou that sayest G3004 V-PAP-NSM a man should not G3361 PRT-N commit adultery G3431 V-PAN , dost thou commit adultery G3431 V-PAI-2S ? thou that G3588 T-APN abhorrest G948 V-PNP-NSM idols G1497 N-APN , dost thou commit sacrilege G2416 V-PAI-2S ?
23 Thou that G3739 R-NSM makest thy boast G2744 V-PNI-2S of G1722 PREP the law G3551 N-DSM , through G1223 PREP breaking G3847 N-GSF the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM dishonorest G818 V-PAI-2S thou God G2316 N-ASM ?
24 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN name G3686 N-NSN of God G2316 N-GSM is blasphemed G987 V-PPI-3S among G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPN Gentiles G1484 N-DPN through G1223 PREP you G5209 P-2AP , as G2531 ADV it is written G1125 V-RPI-3S .
25 For G1063 CONJ circumcision G4061 N-NSF verily G3303 PRT profiteth G5623 V-PAI-3S , if G1437 COND thou keep G4238 V-PAS-2S the law G3551 N-ASM : but G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND thou be a breaker G3848 N-NSM of the law G3551 N-GSM , thy G3588 T-NSF circumcision G4061 N-NSF is made G1096 V-2RAI-3S uncircumcision G203 N-NSF .
26 Therefore G3767 CONJ if G1437 COND the G3588 T-NSF uncircumcision G203 N-NSF keep G5442 V-PAS-3S the G3588 T-APN righteousness G1345 N-APN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM , shall not G3780 PRT-I his G3588 T-NSF uncircumcision G203 N-NSF be counted G3049 V-FPI-3S for G1519 PREP circumcision G4061 N-ASF ?
27 And G2532 CONJ shall not uncircumcision G203 N-NSF which is by G1537 PREP nature G5449 N-GSF , if it fulfill G5055 V-PAP-NSF the G3588 T-ASM law G3551 N-ASM , judge G2919 V-FAI-3S thee G4571 P-2AS , who by G1223 PREP the letter G1121 N-GSN and G2532 CONJ circumcision G4061 N-GSF dost transgress G3848 N-ASM the law G3551 N-GSM ?
28 For G1063 CONJ he is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N a Jew G2453 A-NSM , which is one outwardly G1722 PREP ; neither G3761 ADV is that circumcision G4061 N-NSF , which is outward G1722 PREP in G1722 PREP the flesh G4561 N-DSF :
29 But G235 CONJ he is a Jew G2453 A-NSM , which is one inwardly G1722 PREP ; and G2532 CONJ circumcision G4061 N-NSF is that of the heart G2588 N-GSF , in G1722 PREP the spirit G4151 N-DSN , and not G3756 PRT-N in the letter G1121 N-DSN ; whose G3739 R-GSM praise G1868 N-NSM is not G3756 PRT-N of G1537 PREP men G444 N-GPM , but G235 CONJ of G3588 T-GSM God G2316 N-GSM .
