1 Kings 15:1 (NIV) New International Version

1 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah became king of Judah,
2 and he reigned in Jerusalem for three years. His mother's name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
3 He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been.
4 Nevertheless, for David's sake the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong.
5 For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not failed to keep any of the LORD's commands all the days of his life--except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.
6 There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout Abijah's lifetime.
7 As for the other events of Abijah's reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
8 And Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah,
10 and he reigned in Jerusalem for forty-one years. His grandmother's name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
11 Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done.
12 He expelled the male shrine-prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his fathers had made.
13 He even deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive Asherah pole. Asa cut the pole down and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
14 Although he did not remove the high places, Asa's heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.
15 He brought into the temple of the LORD the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.
16 There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.
17 Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
18 Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the LORD's temple and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent them to Ben-Hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus.
19 "Let there be a treaty between me and you," he said, "as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me."
20 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maacah and all Kinnereth in addition to Naphtali.
21 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah.
22 Then King Asa issued an order to all Judah--no-one was exempt--and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using there. With them King Asa built up Geba in Benjamin, and also Mizpah.
23 As for all the other events of Asa's reign, all his achievements, all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? In his old age, however, his feet became diseased.
24 Then Asa rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king.
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.
26 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, walking in the ways of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
27 Baasha son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar plotted against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it.
28 Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king.
29 As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam's whole family. He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the LORD given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite--
30 because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.
31 As for the other events of Nadab's reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?
32 There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned for twenty-four years.
34 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, walking in the ways of Jeroboam and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.

4 Nevertheless H3588 CONJ for David\'s sake H4616 L-CONJ did the LORD H3068 EDS his God H430 CMP-3MS give H5414 VQQ3MS him a lamp H5216 in Jerusalem H3389 , to set up H6965 his son H1121 CMS-3MS after H310 PREP-3MS him , and to establish H5975 Jerusalem H3389 :
5 Because H834 RPRO David H1732 did H6213 VQQ3MS that which was right H3477 in the eyes H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , and turned not aside H3808 W-NPAR from any H3605 NMS thing that H834 RPRO he commanded H6680 VPQ3MS-3MS him all H3605 NMS the days H3117 CMP of his life H2416 , save only H7535 ADV in the matter H1697 of Uriah H223 the Hittite H2850 .
6 And there was H1961 VQQ3FS war H4421 between H996 W-PREP Rehoboam H7346 and Jeroboam H3379 all H3605 NMS the days H3117 CMP of his life H2416 .
7 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Abijam H38 , and all H3605 W-CMS that H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 ? And there was H1961 VQQ3FS war H4421 between H996 PREP Abijam H38 and Jeroboam H3379 .
8 And Abijam H38 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 ; and they buried H6912 him in the city H5892 of David H1732 MMS : and Asa H609 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
9 And in the twentieth H6242 year H8141 of Jeroboam H3379 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 reigned H4427 Asa H609 over Judah H3063 .
10 And forty H705 W-MMP and one H259 years H8141 NFS reigned H4427 he in Jerusalem H3389 . And his mother H517 GFS-3MS \'s name H8034 W-CMS was Maachah H4601 , the daughter H1323 CFS of Abishalom H53 .
11 And Asa H609 did H6213 W-VQY3MS that which was right H3477 in the eyes H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , as did David H1732 his father H1 .
12 And he took away H5674 W-VHI3MS the sodomites H6945 out of H4480 PREP the land H776 D-GFS , and removed H5493 W-VHY3MS all H3605 NMS the idols H1544 that H834 RPRO his fathers H1 had made H6213 VQQ3MP .
13 And also H1571 W-CONJ Maachah H4601 his mother H517 GFS-3MS , even her he removed H5493 from being queen H1377 , because H834 RPRO she had made H6213 VQQ3MS an idol H4656 in a grove H842 ; and Asa H609 destroyed H3772 her idol H4656 , and burnt H8313 it by the brook H5158 Kidron H6939 .
14 But the high places H1116 were not H3808 NADV removed H5493 VQQ3MP : nevertheless H7535 ADV Asa H609 \'s heart H3824 was H1961 VQQ3MS perfect H8003 with H5973 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS all H3605 NMS his days H3117 CMP-3MS .
15 And he brought in W-VHY3MS the things which his father H1 CMS-3MS had dedicated H6944 , and the things which himself had dedicated H6944 , into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , silver H3701 NMS , and gold H2091 , and vessels H3627 .
16 And there was H1961 VQQ3FS war H4421 between H996 PREP Asa H609 and Baasha H1201 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 all H3605 NMS their days H3117 .
17 And Baasha H1201 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 went up H5927 W-VHY3MS against H5921 PREP Judah H3063 , and built H1129 W-VQY3MS Ramah H7414 , that he might not H1115 L-NPAR suffer H5414 VQFC any to go out H3318 VQPMS or come in H935 to Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 .
18 Then Asa H609 took H3947 W-VQY3MS all H3605 NMS the silver H3701 and the gold H2091 that were left H3498 in the treasures H214 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and the treasures H214 of the king H4428 NMS \'s house H1004 CMS , and delivered H5414 them into the hand H3027 B-CFS of his servants H5650 : and king H4428 NMS Asa H609 sent H7971 them to H413 PREP Ben H1130 - hadad , the son H1121 of Tabrimon H2886 , the son H1121 of Hezion H2383 , king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS , that dwelt H3427 D-VQPMS at Damascus H1834 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
19 There is a league H1285 NFS between H996 PREP me and thee , and between H996 PREP my father H1 NMS and thy father H1 NMS : behold H2009 IJEC , I have sent H7971 unto thee a present H7810 of silver H3701 NMS and gold H2091 ; come H1980 VQI2MS and break H6565 thy league H1285 with H854 PREP Baasha H1201 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , that he may depart H5927 from me .
20 So Ben H1130 - hadad hearkened H8085 unto H413 PREP king H4428 D-NMS Asa H609 , and sent H7971 W-VQY3MS the captains H8269 CMP of the hosts H2428 which H834 RPRO he had against H5921 PREP the cities H5892 of Israel H3478 , and smote H5221 W-VHY3MS Ijon H5859 , and Dan H1835 , and Abel H62 - beth - maachah , and all H3605 NMS Cinneroth H3672 , with H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS the land H776 GFS of Naphtali H5321 .
21 And it came to pass H1961 W-VPY3MS , when Baasha H1201 heard H8085 thereof , that he left off H2308 building H1129 of Ramah H7414 , and dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MS in Tirzah H8656 .
22 Then king H4428 Asa H609 made a proclamation H8085 throughout all H3605 NMS Judah H3063 ; none H369 NPAR was exempted H5355 AMS : and they took away H5375 W-VQY3MP the stones H68 CMP of Ramah H7414 , and the timber H6086 thereof , wherewith H834 RPRO Baasha H1201 had built H1129 VQQ3MS ; and king H4428 D-NMS Asa H609 built H1129 W-VQY3MS with them Geba H1387 of Benjamin H1144 , and Mizpah H4709 .
23 The rest H3499 of all H3605 NMS the acts H1697 of Asa H609 , and all H3605 NMS his might H1369 , and all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , and the cities H5892 which H834 RPRO he built H1129 VQQ3MS , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NPAR written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 ? Nevertheless H7535 ADV in the time H6256 L-CMS of his old age H2209 he was diseased H2470 in his feet H7272 .
24 And Asa H609 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and was buried H6912 with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 in the city H5892 of David H1732 MMS his father H1 CMS-3MS : and Jehoshaphat H3092 his son H1121 CMS-3MS reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
25 And Nadab H5070 the son H1121 of Jeroboam H3379 began to reign H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 in the second H8147 MFD year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , and reigned H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 two years H8141 B-CFS .
26 And he did H6213 W-VQY3MS evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , and walked H1980 W-VQY3MS in the way H1870 B-NMS of his father H1 CMS-3MS , and in his sin H2403 wherewith H834 RPRO he made Israel to sin H2398 .
27 And Baasha H1201 the son H1121 CMS of Ahijah H281 , of the house H1004 of Issachar H3485 , conspired H7194 against H5921 PREP-3MS him ; and Baasha H1201 smote H5221 him at Gibbethon H1405 , which H834 RPRO belonged to the Philistines H6430 ; for Nadab H5070 and all H3605 W-CMS Israel H3478 laid siege H6696 to H5921 PREP-3MS Gibbethon H1405 .
28 Even in the third H7969 MFS year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 did Baasha H1201 slay H4191 him , and reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
29 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when he reigned H4427 , that he smote H5221 all H3605 NMS the house H1004 CMS of Jeroboam H3379 ; he left H7604 not H3808 ADV to Jeroboam H3379 any H3605 NMS that breathed H5397 , until H5704 PREP he had destroyed H8045 him , according unto the saying H1697 K-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , which H834 RPRO he spoke H1696 VPQ3MS by H3027 B-CFS his servant H5650 Ahijah H281 the Shilonite H7888 :
30 Because H5921 PREP of the sins H2403 of Jeroboam H3379 which H834 RPRO he sinned H2398 VQQ3MS , and which H834 RPRO he made Israel to sin H2398 , by his provocation H3708 wherewith H834 RPRO he provoked H3707 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 to anger .
31 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Nadab H5070 , and all H3605 W-CMS that H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NADV written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Israel H3478 LMS ?
32 And there was H1961 VQQ3FS war H4421 between H996 PREP Asa H609 and Baasha H1201 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 all H3605 NMS their days H3117 .
33 In the third H7969 MFS year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 began Baasha H1201 the son H1121 CMS of Ahijah H281 to reign H4427 over H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 in Tirzah H8656 , twenty H6242 and four H702 W-BFS years H8141 B-CFS .
34 And he did H6213 W-VQY3MS evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , and walked H1980 W-VQY3MS in the way H1870 B-NMS of Jeroboam H3379 , and in his sin H2403 wherewith H834 RPRO he made Israel to sin H2398 .
