1 তখন আন্তিয়খিয়ার মণ্ডলীতে বার্ণবা, শিমোন, যাঁহাকে নীগের বলে, কুরীণীয় লুকিয়, হেরোদ রাজার সহপালিত মনহেম, এবং শৌল নামে কয়েক জন ভাববাদী ও শিক্ষক ছিলেন।
2 তাঁহারা প্রভুর সেবা ও উপবাস করিতেছিলেন, এমন সময়ে পবিত্র আত্মা কহিলেন, আমি বার্ণবা ও শৌলকে যে কার্য্যে আহ্বান করিয়াছি, সেই কার্য্যের নিমিত্ত আমার জন্য এখন তাহাদিগকে পৃথক্‌ করিয়া দেও।
3 তখন তাঁহারা উপবাস ও প্রার্থনা এবং তাঁহাদের উপরে হস্তার্পণ করিয়া তাঁহাদিগকে বিদায় দিলেন।
4 এইরূপে তাঁহারা পবিত্র আত্মা কর্ত্তৃক প্রেরিত হইয়া সিলূকিয়াতে গেলেন, এবং তথা হইতে জাহাজ খুলিয়া কুপ্রে গমন করিলেন।
5 তাঁহারা সালামীতে উপস্থিত হইয়া যিহূদীদের সমাজ-গৃহে সমাজ-গৃহে ঈশ্বরের বাক্য প্রচার করিতে লাগিলেন; এবং যোহনও ভৃত্যরূপে তাঁহাদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন।
6 আর তাঁহারা সমস্ত দ্বীপের মধ্য দিয়া গমন করিয়া পাফঃ নগরে উপস্থিত হইলে এক জন যিহূদী মায়াবী ও ভাক্ত ভাববাদীকে দেখিতে পাইলেন, তাহার নাম বর্‌-যীশু;
7 সে দেশাধ্যক্ষ সের্গিয় পৌলের সঙ্গে ছিল; তিনি এক জন বুদ্ধিমান্‌ লোক। তিনি বার্ণবা ও শৌলকে কাছে ডাকিয়া ঈশ্বরের বাক্য শুনিতে চাহিলেন।
8 কিন্তু ইলুমা, সেই মায়াবী—কেননা অনুবাদ করিলে ইহাই তাহার নামের অর্থ—সেই দেশাধ্যক্ষকে বিশ্বাস হইতে ফিরাইবার চেষ্টায় তাঁহাদের প্রতিরোধ করিতে লাগিল।
9 কিন্তু শৌল, যাঁহাকে পৌলও বলে, পবিত্র আত্মায় পরিপূর্ণ হইয়া তাহার প্রতি একদৃষ্টে চাহিয়া কহিলেন,
10 হে সর্ব্বপ্রকার ছলে ও সর্ব্বপ্রকার দুষ্টামিতে পরিপূর্ণ, দিয়াবল-সন্তান, সর্ব্বপ্রকার ধার্ম্মিকতার শত্রু, তুমি প্রভুর সরল পথ বিপরীত করিতে কি ক্ষান্ত হইবে না?
11 এখন দেখ, প্রভুর হস্ত তোমার উপরে রহিয়াছে, তুমি অন্ধ হইবে, কিছু কাল সূর্য্য দেখিতে পাইবে না। আর অমনি কুজ্‌ঝটিকা ও অন্ধকার তাহাকে আচ্ছন্ন করিল, তাহাতে সে হাত ধরিয়া চালাইবার লোকের অন্বেষণে এদিক্‌ ওদিক্‌ চলিতে লাগিল।
12 তখন সেই ঘটনা দেখিয়া দেশাধ্যক্ষ প্রভুর উপদেশে চমৎকৃত হইয়া বিশ্বাস করিলেন।
13 পরে পৌল ও তাঁহার সঙ্গিগণ পাফঃ হইতে জাহাজ খুলিয়া পাম্ফুলিয়ার পর্গা নগরে উপস্থিত হইলেন। তখন যোহন তাঁহাদিগকে ছাড়িয়া যিরূশালেমে ফিরিয়া গেলেন।
14 কিন্তু তাঁহারা পর্গা হইতে অগ্রসর হইয়া পিষিদিয়ার আন্তিয়খিয়ায় উপস্থিত হইলেন; এবং বিশ্রামবারে সমাজ-গৃহে প্রবেশ করিয়া বসিলেন।
15 ব্যবস্থা ও ভাববাদি-গ্রন্থের পাঠ সমাপ্ত হইলে সমাজাধ্যক্ষেরা তাঁহাদিগকে বলিয়া পাঠাইলেন, ভ্রাতৃগণ, লোকদের কাছে আপনাদের কোন উপদেশ কথা যদি থাকে, বলুন।
16 তখন পৌল দাঁড়াইয়া হস্ত দ্বারা ইঙ্গিত করিয়া কহিতে লাগিলেন,— হে ইস্রায়েল-লোকেরা, হে ঈশ্বরভীতগণ, শ্রবণ কর।
17 এই ইস্রায়েল-জাতির ঈশ্বর আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদিগকে মনোনীত করিয়া লইয়াছিলেন, এবং এই জাতি যখন মিসরদেশে প্রবাস করিতেছিল, তখন তাহাদিগকে উন্নত করিলেন, ও উচ্চ বাহু সহকারে তথা হইতে বাহির করিয়া আনিলেন।
18 আর তিনি প্রান্তরে কমবেশ চল্লিশ বৎসর কাল তাহাদের ব্যবহার সহ্য করিলেন।
19 পরে তিনি কনান দেশে সাত জাতিকে উৎপাটন করিয়া অধিকারার্থে সেই সকল জাতির দেশ তাহাদিগকে দিলেন। এইরূপে কমবেশ চারি শত পঞ্চাশ বৎসর অতীত হইল।
20 তাহার পরে তিনি শমূয়েল ভাববাদীর সময় পর্য্যন্ত বিচারকর্ত্তৃগণ দিলেন।
21 তৎপরে তাহারা এক জন রাজা চাহিল, তাহাতে ঈশ্বর তাহাদিগকে চল্লিশ বৎসরের জন্য বিন্যামীন বংশজাত কীশের পুত্র শৌলকে দিলেন।
22 পরে তিনি তাঁহাকে সরাইয়া দিয়া তাহাদের রাজা হইবার জন্য দায়ূদকে উৎপন্ন করিলেন, যাঁহার পক্ষে তিনি সাক্ষ্য দিয়া বলিলেন, ‘আমি যিশয়ের পুত্র দায়ূদকে পাইয়াছি, সে আমার মনের মত লোক, সে আমার সমস্ত ইচ্ছা পালন করিবে’।
23 তাঁহারই বংশ হইতে ঈশ্বর প্রতিজ্ঞানুসারে ইস্রায়েলের নিমিত্ত এক ত্রাণকর্ত্তাকে, যীশুকে, উপস্থিত করিলেন;
24 তাঁহার আগমনের অগ্রে যোহন সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল-জাতির কাছে মনপরিবর্ত্তনের বাপ্তিস্ম প্রচার করিয়াছিলেন।
25 আর যোহন আপন নিরূপিত পথের শেষ পর্য্যন্ত দৌড়িতে দৌড়িতে এই কথা কহিতেন, তোমরা আমাকে কোন্‌ ব্যক্তি বলিয়া মনে কর? আমি তিনি নহি; কিন্তু দেখ, আমার পশ্চাৎ এমন এক ব্যক্তি আসিতেছেন, যাঁহার পদের পাদুকার বন্ধন খুলিতেও আমি যোগ্য নহি।
26 হে ভ্রাতৃগণ, অব্রাহাম-বংশের সন্তানগণ, ও তোমরা যত লোক ঈশ্বরকে ভয় কর, আমাদেরই নিকট এই পরিত্রাণের বাক্য প্রেরিত হইয়াছে।
27 কেননা যিরূশালেম-নিবাসীরা এবং তাহাদের অধ্যক্ষেরা তাঁহাকে না জানাতে, এবং ভাববাদিগণের যে সকল বাণী প্রতি বিশ্রামবারে পঠিত হয়, সে সকলও না জানাতে, তাঁহার দণ্ডাজ্ঞা করিয়া সে সকল পূর্ণ করিল।
28 আর প্রাণদণ্ডের যোগ্য কোনই দোষ না পাইলেও তাহারা পীলাতের নিকটে যাচ্ঞা করিল, যেন তাঁহাকে বধ করা হয়।
29 আর তাঁহার বিষয়ে যে সকল কথা লিখিত ছিল, তাহা সিদ্ধ করিলে পর তাঁহাকে গাছ হইতে নামাইয়া কবরে সমাহিত করিল।
30 কিন্তু ঈশ্বর মৃতগণের মধ্য হইতে তাঁহাকে উঠাইলেন।
31 আর যাঁহারা তাঁহার সহিত গালীল হইতে যিরূশালেমে আসিয়াছিলেন, তাঁহাদিগকে তিনি অনেক দিন পর্য্যন্ত দেখা দিলেন; তাঁহারাই এক্ষণে প্রজালোকদের কাছে তাঁহার সাক্ষী।
32 আর পিতৃগণের কাছে কৃত প্রতিজ্ঞার বিষয়ে আমরা তোমাদিগকে এই সুসমাচার জানাইতেছি যে,
33 ঈশ্বর যীশুকে উঠাইয়া আমাদের সন্তানগণের পক্ষে সেই প্রতিজ্ঞা পূর্ণ করিয়াছেন, যেমন দ্বিতীয় গীতেও লেখা আছে, “তুমি আমার পুত্র, অদ্য আমি তোমাকে জন্ম দিয়াছি।”
34 আর তিনি যে তাঁহাকে মৃতগণের মধ্য হইতে উঠাইয়াছেন, এবং তাঁহাকে যে আর ক্ষয়ে ফিরিয়া যাইতে হইবে না, এ বিষয়ে ঈশ্বর এইরূপ বলিয়াছেন, “আমি তোমাদিগকে দায়ূদের পবিত্র অটল অঙ্গীকার সকল প্রদান করিব।”
35 কেননা তিনি অন্য গীতেও বলেন, “তুমি নিজ সাধুকে ক্ষয় দেখিতে দিবে না।”
36 বস্তুতঃ দায়ূদ আপন সমকালীন লোকদের মধ্যে ঈশ্বরের মন্ত্রণা অনুযায়ী কার্য্য করিবার পর নিদ্রাগত হইলেন, এবং নিজ পিতৃলোকদের নিকটে সংগৃহীত হইলেন, ও ক্ষয় দেখিলেন।
37 কিন্তু ঈশ্বর যাঁহাকে উঠাইয়াছেন, তিনি ক্ষয় দেখেন নাই।
38 অতএব, হে ভ্রাতৃগণ, তোমরা জানিও, এই ব্যক্তি দ্বারা পাপের মোচন তোমাদিগকে জ্ঞাত করা যাইতেছে;
39 আর মোশির ব্যবস্থাতে তোমরা যে সকল বিষয়ে ধার্ম্মিক গণিত হইতে পারিতে না, যে কেহ বিশ্বাস করে, সে সেই সকল বিষয়ে এই ব্যক্তিতেই ধার্ম্মিক গণিত হয়।
40 অতএব দেখিও, ভাববাদিগণের গ্রন্থে যাহা বলা হইয়াছে, তাহা যেন তোমাদের প্রতি না ঘটে,
41 “হে অবজ্ঞাকারিগণ, দৃষ্টিপাত কর, আর চমকিয়া উঠ এবং অন্তর্হিত হও; যেহেতুক তোমাদের সময়ে আমি এক কর্ম্ম করিব, সেই কর্ম্মের কথা যদি কেহ তোমাদের কাছে বর্ণনা করে, তোমরা কোন মতে বিশ্বাস করিবে না।”
42 তাঁহাদের বাহিরে যাইবার সময়ে লোকেরা বিনতি করিল, যেন পর বিশ্রামবারে সেই সকল কথা তাহাদের কাছে বলা হয়।
43 আর সমাজ ভঙ্গ হইলে অনেক যিহূদী ও যিহূদিধর্ম্মাবলম্বী ভক্ত লোক পৌল ও বার্ণবার পশ্চাৎ পশ্চাৎ গমন করিল; তাঁহারা তাহাদের সহিত কথা কহিলেন, ঈশ্বরের অনুগ্রহে স্থির থাকিতে তাহাদিগকে প্রবৃত্তি দিলেন।
44 পরবর্ত্তী বিশ্রামবারে নগরের প্রায় সমস্ত লোক ঈশ্বরের বাক্য শুনিতে সমাগত হইল।
45 কিন্তু যিহূদীরা লোকসমারোহ দেখিয়া ঈর্ষাতে পরিপূর্ণ হইল, এবং নিন্দা করিতে করিতে পৌলের কথার প্রতিবাদ করিতে লাগিল।
46 আর পৌল ও বার্ণবা সাহস পূর্ব্বক কথা কহিলেন, বলিলেন, প্রথমে তোমাদেরই নিকটে ঈশ্বরের বাক্য প্রচার করা যায়, ইহা আবশ্যক ছিল; তোমরা যখন তাহা ঠেলিয়া ফেলিতেছ, এবং আপনাদিগকে অনন্ত জীবনের অযোগ্য বিবেচনা করিতেছ, তখন দেখ, আমরা পরজাতিগণের দিকে ফিরিতেছি।
47 কেননা প্রভু আমাদিগকে এইরূপ আজ্ঞা দিয়াছেন, “আমি তোমাকে জাতিগণের দীপ্তিস্বরূপ করিয়াছি, যেন তুমি পৃথিবীর সীমা পর্য্যন্ত পরিত্রাণস্বরূপ হও।”
48 ইহা শুনিয়া পরজাতীয়েরা আহ্লাদিত হইল, ও প্রভুর বাক্যের গৌরব করিতে লাগিল; এবং যত লোক অনন্ত জীবনের জন্য নিরূপিত হইয়াছিল, তাহারা বিশ্বাস করিল।
49 আর প্রভুর বাক্য সেই দেশের সর্ব্বত্র ব্যাপিয়া গেল।
50 কিন্তু যিহূদীরা ভক্ত ভদ্র মহিলাদিগকে ও নগরের প্রধানবর্গকে উত্তেজিত করিয়া তুলিল, পৌলের ও বার্ণবার প্রতি তাড়না ঘটাইল, এবং আপনাদের সীমা হইতে তাঁহাদিগকে বাহির করিয়া দিল।
51 তখন তাঁহারা তাহাদের বিরুদ্ধে পায়ের ধূলা ঝাড়িয়া দিয়া ইকনিয়ে গেলেন।
52 আর শিষ্যগণ আনন্দে ও পবিত্র আত্মায় পরিপূর্ণ হইতে থাকিল।
