1 পরে তিনি দর্বীতে ও লুস্ত্রায় উপস্থিত হইলেন। আর দেখ, সেখানে তীমথিয় নামে এক শিষ্য ছিলেন; তিনি এক বিশ্বাসিনী যিহূদী মহিলার পুত্র, কিন্তু তাঁহার পিতা গ্রীক;
2 লুস্ত্রা ও ইকনীয় নিবাসী ভ্রাতৃগণ তাঁহার পক্ষে সাক্ষ্য দিত।
3 পৌলের ইচ্ছা হইল, যেন সে ব্যক্তি তাঁহার সঙ্গে গমন করেন; আর তিনি ঐ সকল স্থানের যিহূদীদের নিমিত্ত তাঁহাকে লইয়া তাঁহার ত্বক্‌ছেদ করিলেন; কেননা তাঁহার পিতা যে গ্রীক, ইহা সকলে জানিত।
4 আর তাঁহারা নগরে নগরে ভ্রমণ করিতে করিতে যিরূশালেমস্থ প্রেরিতগণের ও প্রাচীনবর্গের নিরূপিত নিয়মাবলী পালন করিতে ভ্রাতৃগণের হস্তে অর্পণ করিলেন।
5 এইরূপে মণ্ডলীগণ বিশ্বাসে দৃঢ়ীকৃত হইতে থাকিল, এবং দিন দিন সংখ্যায় বৃদ্ধি পাইল।
6 তাঁহারা ফরুগিয়া ও গালাতিয়া দেশ দিয়া গমন করিলেন, কেননা এশিয়া দেশে বাক্য প্রচার করিতে পবিত্র আত্মা কর্ত্তৃক নিবারিত হইয়াছিলেন;
7 আর মুশিয়া দেশের নিকটে উপস্থিত হইয়া তাঁহারা বিথুনিয়ায় যাইতে চেষ্টা করিলেন, কিন্তু যীশুর আত্মা তাঁহাদিগকে যাইতে দিলেন না।
8 তখন তাঁহারা মুশিয়া দেশ ছাড়িয়া ত্রোয়াতে চলিয়া গেলেন।
9 আর রাত্রিকালে পৌল এক দর্শন পাইলেন; এক মাকিদনীয় পুরুষ দাঁড়াইয়া বিনতিপূর্ব্বক তাঁহাকে বলিতেছে, পার হইয়া মাকিদনিয়াতে আসিয়া আমাদের উপকার করুন।
10 তিনি সেই দর্শন পাইলে আমরা অবিলম্বে মাকিদনিয়া দেশে যাইতে চেষ্টা করিলাম, কারণ বুঝিলাম, তথাকার লোকদের নিকটে সুসমাচার প্রচার করিতে ঈশ্বর আমাদিগকে ডাকিয়াছেন।
11 আমরা ত্রোয়া হইতে জলযাত্রা করিয়া সোজা পথে সামথ্রাকীতে, এবং তাহার পরদিন নিয়াপলিতে উপস্থিত হইলাম।
12 তথা হইতে ফিলিপীতে গেলাম; উহা মাকিদনিয়ার ঐ বিভাগের প্রথম নগর, রোমীয় উপনিবেশ। সেই নগরে আমরা কয়েক দিন অবস্থিতি করিলাম।
13 আর বিশ্রামবারে নগরদ্বারের বাহিরের নদীতীরে গেলাম, মনে করিলাম, সেখানে প্রার্থনাস্থান আছে; আর আমরা বসিয়া সমাগত স্ত্রীলোকদের কাছে কথা কহিতে লাগিলাম।
14 আর থুয়াতীরা নগরের লুদিয়া নাম্নী একটী ঈশ্বর-ভক্ত স্ত্রীলোক, যিনি বেগুনিয়া কাপড় বিক্রয় করিতেন, আমাদের কথা শুনিতেছিলেন; আর প্রভু তাঁহার হৃদয় খুলিয়া দিলেন, যেন তিনি পৌলের কথায় মনোযোগ করেন।
15 তিনি ও তাঁহার পরিবার বাপ্তাইজিত হইলে পর তিনি বিনতি করিয়া কহিলেন, আপনারা যদি আমাকে প্রভুতে বিশ্বাসিনী বলিয়া বিবেচনা করিয়া থাকেন, তবে আমার গৃহে আসিয়া অবস্থিতি করুন। আর তিনি আমাদিগকে সাধ্যসাধনা করিয়া লইয়া গেলেন।
16 এক দিন আমরা সেই প্রার্থনাস্থানে যাইতেছিলাম, এমন সময়ে দৈবজ্ঞ আত্মাবিষ্টা এক দাসী আমাদের সম্মুখে পড়িল; সে ভাগ্যকথন দ্বারা তাহার কর্ত্তাদের বিস্তর লাভ জন্মাইত।
17 সে পৌলের এবং আমাদের পশ্চাৎ চলিতে চলিতে চেঁচাইয়া বলিতে লাগিল, এই ব্যক্তিরা পরাৎপর ঈশ্বরের দাস, ইহাঁরা তোমাদিগকে পরিত্রাণের পথ জানাইতেছেন।
18 সে অনেক দিন পর্য্যন্ত এইরূপ করিতে থাকিল। কিন্তু পৌল বিরক্ত হইয়া মুখ ফিরাইয়া সেই আত্মাকে কহিলেন, আমি যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নামে তোমাকে আজ্ঞা দিতেছি, ইহা হইতে বাহির হইয়া যাও; তাহাতে সেই দণ্ডেই সে বাহির হইয়া গেল।
19 কিন্তু তাহার কর্ত্তারা, লাভের প্রত্যাশা বাহির হইয়া গেল দেখিয়া, পৌলকে ও সীলকে ধরিয়া বাজারে অধ্যক্ষদের সম্মুখে টানিয়া লইয়া গেল;
20 এবং শাসনকর্ত্তাদের নিকটে তাঁহাদিগকে আনিয়া বলিল, এই ব্যক্তিরা আমাদের নগর অতিশয় অস্থির করিয়া তুলিতেছে; ইহারা যিহূদী;
21 আর আমরা রোমীয়, আমাদের যেরূপ রীতিনীতি গ্রহণ কি পালন করিতে নাই, ইহারা তাহাই প্রচার করিতেছে।
22 তাহাতে লোকসমূহ তাঁহাদের বিরুদ্ধে উঠিল, এবং শাসনকর্ত্তারা তাঁহাদের বস্ত্র খুলিয়া ফেলিয়া দিলেন, ও বেত্রাঘাত করিতে আজ্ঞা দিলেন,
23 এবং তাঁহাদিগকে বিস্তর প্রহার করাইলে পর কারাগারে নিক্ষেপ করিলেন, এবং সাবধানে রক্ষা করিতে কারারক্ষককে আজ্ঞা দিলেন।
24 এই প্রকার আদেশ প্রাপ্ত হইয়া সে তাঁহাদিগকে ভিতর-কারাগারে বদ্ধ করিল, এবং তাহাদের পায়ে হাড়িকাঠ দিয়া রাখিল।
25 কিন্তু মধ্যরাত্রে পৌল ও সীল প্রার্থনা করিতে করিতে ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে স্তোত্র গান করিতেছিলেন, এবং বন্দিগণ তাঁহাদের গান কাণ পাতিয়া শুনিতেছিল।
26 তখন হঠাৎ মহাভূমিকম্প হইল, এমন কি, কারাগারের ভিত্তিমূল কাঁপিয়া উঠিল; আর অমনি সমস্ত দ্বার খুলিয়া গেল, ও সকলের বন্ধন মুক্ত হইল।
27 তাহাতে কারারক্ষক নিদ্রা হইতে জাগিয়া উঠিয়া, ও কারাগারের দ্বার সকল খুলিয়া গিয়াছে দেখিয়া, খড়্গ নিষ্কোষ করিয়া আপনার প্রাণ নষ্ট করিতে উদ্যত হইল, মনে করিল, বন্দিগণ পলায়ন করিয়াছে।
28 কিন্তু পৌল উচ্চ রবে ডাকিয়া কহিলেন, ওহে, আপনার হিংসা করিও না, কেননা আমরা সকলেই এই স্থানে আছি।
29 তখন সে আলো আনিতে বলিয়া ভিতরে দৌড়িয়া গেল, এবং ত্রাসে কাঁপিতে কাঁপিতে পৌলের ও সীলের সম্মুখে পড়িল;
30 আর তাঁহাদিগকে বাহিরে আনিয়া বলিল, মহাশয়েরা, পরিত্রাণ পাইবার জন্য আমাকে কি করিতে হইবে?
31 তাঁহারা কহিলেন, তুমি ও তোমার পরিবার প্রভু যীশুতে বিশ্বাস কর, তাহাতে পরিত্রাণ পাইবে।
32 পরে তাঁহারা তাহাকে এবং তাহার বাটীতে উপস্থিত সকল লোককে ঈশ্বরের বাক্য বলিলেন।
33 আর রাত্রির সেই দণ্ডেই সে তাঁহাদিগকে লইয়া তাঁহাদের প্রহারের ক্ষত সকল ধৌত করিল; এবং সে আপনি ও তাহার সকল লোক অবিলম্বে বাপ্তাইজিত হইল।
34 পরে সে তাঁহাদিগকে উপরে গৃহমধ্যে লইয়া গিয়া তাঁহাদের সম্মুখে আহারীয় দ্রব্য রাখিল; এবং সমস্ত পরিবারের সহিত ঈশ্বরে বিশ্বাস করাতে অতিশয় আহ্লাদিত হইল।
35 দিবস হইলে শাসনকর্ত্তারা বেত্রধরদের দ্বারা বলিয়া পাঠাইলেন, সেই লোকদিগকে ছাড়িয়া দেও।
36 তাহাতে কারারক্ষক পৌলকে এই সংবাদ দিল যে, শাসনকর্ত্তারা আপনাদিগকে ছাড়িয়া দিতে বলিয়া পাঠাইয়াছেন, অতএব আপনারা এখন বাহির হইয়া শান্তিতে প্রস্থান করুন।
37 কিন্তু পৌল তাহাদিগকে কহিলেন, তাঁহারা আমাদিগকে বিচারে দোষী না করিয়া সর্ব্বসাধারণের সাক্ষাতে প্রহার করাইয়া কারাগারে নিক্ষেপ করিয়াছেন, আমরা ত রোমীয় লোক, এক্ষণে কি গোপনে আমাদিগকে বাহির করিয়া দিতেছেন? তাহা হইবে না; তাঁহারা নিজে আসিয়া আমাদিগকে বাহিরে লইয়া যাউন।
38 তখন বেত্রধরেরা শাসনকর্ত্তাদিগকে এই কথার সংবাদ দিল। তাহাতে তাঁহারা যে রোমীয়, এ কথা শুনিয়া শাসনকর্ত্তারা ভীত হইলেন,
39 এবং আসিয়া তাঁহাদিগকে বিনতি করিলেন, আর বাহিরে লইয়া গিয়া নগর হইতে প্রস্থান করিতে অনুরোধ করিলেন।
40 তখন তাঁহারা কারাগার হইতে বাহির হইয়া লুদিয়ার বাটীতে প্রবেশ করিলেন; আর ভ্রাতৃগণের সঙ্গে দেখা হইলে তাঁহাদিগকে আশ্বাস দিলেন; পরে প্রস্থান করিলেন।
