18. பகைவர் எலிசாவை நோக்கி வந்தபோது, எலிசா யெகோவாவை நோக்கி, “இந்தப் படையினரைக் குருடராக்கும்” என்று மன்றாடினான். எலிசா வேண்டிக்கொண்டபடியே யெகோவா அவர்களைக் குருடராக்கினார். PEPS

22. அதற்கு எலிசா, “அவர்களைக் கொல்லாதே. உனது வாளாலும், வில்லாலும் சிறைப்பிடித்த கைதிகளைக் கொல்லலாமா? அவர்களுக்குச் சாப்பிட அப்பமும், குடிக்கத் தண்ணீரும் கொடுத்து அவர்களுடைய எஜமானிடம் திருப்பி அனுப்பிவிடு” என்றான்.

And he answered H559 , Thou shalt not H3808 smite H5221 them : wouldest thou H859 smite H5221 those whom H834 thou hast taken captive H7617 with thy sword H2719 and with thy bow H7198 ? set H7760 bread H3899 and water H4325 before H6440 them , that they may eat H398 and drink H8354 , and go H1980 to H413 their master H113 .

27. அரசன் அதற்குப் பதிலாக, “யெகோவா உனக்கு உதவிசெய்யாவிட்டால் நான் எங்கேயிருந்து உனக்கு உதவிசெய்ய முடியும்? சூடடிக்கும் களத்திலிருந்தா அல்லது திராட்சை ஆலையிலிருந்தா?” என்று கேட்டான்.

27. And he said H559 , If the LORD H3068 do not H408 help H3467 thee, whence H4480 H370 shall I help H3467 thee? out of H4480 the barnfloor H1637 , or H176 out of H4480 the winepress H3342 ?

28. பின்பும் அரசன் அவளைப் பார்த்து, “என்ன விஷயம்?” என்று கேட்டான். PEPS அதற்கு அவள் பதிலாக, “என்னோடிருக்கும் இப்பெண் என்னிடம், ‘இன்றைக்கு சாப்பிடும்படி உன் மகனைத் தா, நாளைக்கு என் மகனைச் சாப்பிடுவோம்’ என்று கூறினாள்.

29. அப்படியே நாங்கள் என் மகனைச் சமைத்துச் சாப்பிட்டோம். அடுத்தநாள் நான் அவளிடம், ‘நாங்கள் சாப்பிடும்படி உன் மகனைத் தா’ என்று கேட்டேன். ஆனால் அவள் அவனை ஒளித்துவிட்டாள்” என்று முறையிட்டாள். PEPS

30. அந்தப் பெண்ணின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்ட அரசன் தன் மேலங்கியைக் கிழித்தான். அவன் மதிலுக்கு மேலாக நடந்து கொண்டுபோகும்போது அவனுடைய உள் உடை துக்கவுடையாய் இருப்பதை மக்கள் யாவரும் கண்டனர்.

And it came to pass H1961 , when the king H4428 heard H8085 H853 the words H1697 of the woman H802 , that he rent H7167 H853 his clothes H899 ; and he H1931 passed by H5674 upon H5921 the wall H2346 , and the people H5971 looked H7200 , and, behold H2009 , he had sackcloth H8242 within H4480 H1004 upon H5921 his flesh H1320 .

31. அப்பொழுது அரசன், “இன்று சாப்பாத்தின் மகன் எலிசாவின் தலையை நான் வெட்டாவிட்டால், இறைவன் என்னை எவ்வளவு அதிகமாகவும் தண்டிக்கட்டும்” என்றான். PEPS

32. அந்த வேளையில் எலிசா தன் வீட்டுக்குள் தன்னைச் சந்திக்க வந்த முதியோர்களோடு உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான். அப்பொழுது அரசன் ஒரு தூதுவனை தனக்கு முன்னே போகும்படி அனுப்பியிருந்தான். ஆனால் அவன் அங்கு போய்ச்சேரும் முன்பே எலிசா முதியோரைப் பார்த்து, “இக்கொலைகாரன் என் தலையை வெட்டுவதற்கு ஒருவனை அனுப்புகிறதை நீங்கள் காணவில்லையா? பாருங்கள் இந்தத் தூதுவன் வரும்போது, அவன் வரும்முன் கதவைப் பூட்டிக்கொண்டு நில்லுங்கள். பின்னாலே கேட்பது அவனுடைய எஜமானின் காலடிச் சத்தமல்லவா” என்றான்.

33. இவ்வாறு எலிசா அவர்களுடன் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே அந்தத் தூதுவன் அங்கு வந்தான். PEPS அப்போது அரசன், “இந்தப் பேராபத்து யெகோவாவிடமிருந்துதான் வந்திருக்கிறது. ஆகையால் இன்னும் நான் ஏன் யெகோவாவுக்குக் காத்திருக்கவேண்டும்” என்றான். PE
