1 Chronicles 29:1 (NRSV) New Revised Standard Version

1 King David said to the whole assembly, "My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the temple will not be for mortals but for the LORD God.
2 So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, besides great quantities of onyx and stones for setting, antimony, colored stones, all sorts of precious stones, and marble in abundance.
3 Moreover, in addition to all that I have provided for the holy house, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, and because of my devotion to the house of my God I give it to the house of my God:
4 three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the house,
5 and for all the work to be done by artisans, gold for the things of gold and silver for the things of silver. Who then will offer willingly, consecrating themselves today to the LORD?"
6 Then the leaders of ancestral houses made their freewill offerings, as did also the leaders of the tribes, the commanders of the thousands and of the hundreds, and the officers over the king's work.
7 They gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8 Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, into the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced because these had given willingly, for with single mind they had offered freely to the LORD; King David also rejoiced greatly.
10 Then David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly; David said: "Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of our ancestor Israel, forever and ever.
11 Yours, O LORD, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.
12 Riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might; and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all.
13 And now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name.
14 "But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
15 For we are aliens and transients before you, as were all our ancestors; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own.
17 I know, my God, that you search the heart, and take pleasure in uprightness; in the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you.
18 O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.
19 Grant to my son Solomon that with single mind he may keep your commandments, your decrees, and your statutes, performing all of them, and that he may build the temple for which I have made provision."
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, "Bless the LORD your God." And all the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before the LORD and the king.
21 On the next day they offered sacrifices and burnt offerings to the LORD, a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their libations, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel;
22 and they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great joy. They made David's son Solomon king a second time; they anointed him as the LORD's prince, and Zadok as priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD, succeeding his father David as king; he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
24 All the leaders and the mighty warriors, and also all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.
25 The LORD highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26 Thus David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27 The period that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
28 He died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and his son Solomon succeeded him.
29 Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of the seer Samuel, and in the records of the prophet Nathan, and in the records of the seer Gad,
30 with accounts of all his rule and his might and of the events that befell him and Israel and all the kingdoms of the earth.
1 Furthermore David H1732 the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto all H3605 L-CMS the congregation H6951 , Solomon H8010 MMS my son H1121 , whom alone H259 MMS God H430 EDP hath chosen H977 , is yet young H5288 and tender H7390 , and the work H4399 is great H1419 AFS : for H3588 CONJ the palace H1002 is not H3808 NADV for man H120 L-CMS , but H3588 CONJ for the LORD H3068 L-EDS God H430 NAME-4MP .
2 Now I have prepared H3559 with all H3605 my might H3581 CMS-1MS for the house H1004 of my God H430 the gold H2091 for things to be made of gold H2091 LD-NMS , and the silver H3701 for things of silver H3701 LD-NMS , and the brass H5178 for things of brass H5178 , the iron H1270 for things of iron H1270 , and wood H6086 for things of wood H6086 ; onyx H7718 stones H68 GFS , and stones to be set H4394 , glistering H6320 stones H68 GFS , and of divers colors H7553 , and all manner H3605 W-CMS of precious H3368 stones H68 GFS , and marble H7893 stones H68 GFS in abundance H7230 .
3 Moreover H5750 W-ADV , because I have set my affection H7521 to the house H1004 B-CMS of my God H430 , I have H3426 ADV of mine own proper good H5459 , of gold H2091 NMS and silver H3701 , which I have given H5414 VQQ1MS to the house H1004 of my God H430 , over H4605 and above all H3605 M-CMS that I have prepared H3559 for the holy H6944 house H1004 ,
4 Even three H7969 BMS thousand H505 MMP talents H3603 of gold H2091 NMS , of the gold H2091 of Ophir H211 LFS , and seven H7651 W-BMS thousand H505 MMP talents H3603 CFS of refined H2212 silver H3701 NMS , to overlay H2902 the walls H7023 of the houses H1004 withal :
5 The gold H2091 LD-NMS for things of gold H2091 LD-NMS , and the silver H3701 for things of silver H3701 LD-NMS , and for all manner H3605 of work H4399 to be made by the hands H3027 B-CFS of artificers H2796 . And who H4310 W-IPRO then is willing H5068 to consecrate his service H3027 CFS-3MS this day H3117 D-AMS unto the LORD H3068 ?
6 Then the chief H8269 CMP of the fathers H1 and princes H8269 of the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 , and the captains H8269 of thousands H505 and of hundreds H3967 , with the rulers H8269 of the king H4428 \'s work H4399 , offered willingly H5068 ,
7 And gave H5414 for the service H5656 of the house H1004 CMS of God H430 D-EDP of gold H2091 NMS five H2568 thousand H505 MMP talents H3603 and ten thousand H7239 MFS drams H150 , and of silver H3701 W-CMS ten H6235 thousand H505 MMP talents H3603 , and of brass H5178 eighteen thousand H7239 MFS talents H3603 , and one hundred H3967 thousand H505 MMP talents H3603 of iron H1270 W-NMS .
8 And they with H854 PREP-3MS whom precious stones H68 NFP were found H4672 gave H5414 them to the treasure H214 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , by H5921 PREP the hand H3027 CFS of Jehiel H3171 the Gershonite H1649 .
9 Then the people H5971 rejoiced H8055 , for H5921 PREP that they offered willingly H5068 , because H3588 CONJ with perfect H8003 heart H3820 they offered willingly H5068 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS : and David H1732 the king H4428 D-NMS also H1571 W-CONJ rejoiced H8055 with great H1419 AFS joy H8057 .
10 Wherefore David H1732 blessed H1288 W-VNY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS before H5869 all H3605 NMS the congregation H6951 : and David H1732 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Blessed H1288 W-VNY3MS be thou H859 PPRO-2MS , LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 our father H1 , forever H5769 M-NMS and ever H5704 W-PREP .
11 Thine , O LORD H3068 EDS , is the greatness H1420 , and the power H1369 , and the glory H8597 , and the victory H5331 , and the majesty H1935 : for H3588 CONJ all H3605 CONJ that is in the heaven H8064 BD-NMP and in the earth H776 is thine ; thine is the kingdom H4467 , O LORD H3068 EDS , and thou art exalted H4984 as head H7218 above all H3605 .
12 Both riches H6239 and honor H3519 come of thee , and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS reignest H4910 over all H3605 ; and in thine hand H3027 is power H3581 CMS and might H1369 W-NFS ; and in thine hand H3027 it is to make great H1431 , and to give strength H2388 unto all H3605 .
13 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore , our God H430 , we H587 PPRO-1MP thank H3034 thee , and praise H1984 thy glorious H8597 name H8034 .
14 But H3588 CONJ who H4310 W-IPRO am I H589 PPRO-1MS , and what H4310 W-IPRO is my people H5971 , that H3588 CONJ we should be able H6113 to offer so willingly H5068 after this sort H2063 ? for H3588 CONJ all things H3605 come of H4480 PREP-2MS thee , and of thine own H3027 have we given H5414 thee .
15 For H3588 CONJ we H587 PPRO-1MP are strangers H1616 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee , and sojourners H8453 , as were all H3605 our fathers H1 : our days H3117 CMP-1MP on H5921 PREP the earth H776 D-GFS are as a shadow H6738 KD-NMS , and there is none H369 W-NPAR abiding H4723 .
16 O LORD H3068 EDS our God H430 , all H3605 CONJ this H2088 D-PMS store H1995 that H834 RPRO we have prepared H3559 to build H1129 thee a house H1004 for thine holy H6944 name H8034 cometh of thine hand H3027 M-CFS-2MS , and is all H3605 thine own .
17 I know H3045 also , my God H430 , that H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS triest H974 the heart H3824 NMS , and hast pleasure H7521 in uprightness H3476 . As for me H589 PPRO-1MS , in the uprightness H4339 W-NMP of mine heart H3824 NMS I have willingly offered H5068 all H3605 CMS these things H428 PMP : and now H6258 W-ADV have I seen H7200 VQQ1MS with joy H8057 thy people H5971 , which are present H4672 here H6311 , to offer willingly H5068 unto thee .
18 O LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Abraham H85 , Isaac H3327 , and of Israel H3478 , our fathers H1 , keep H8104 this H2063 DPRO-3FS forever H5769 L-NMS in the imagination H3336 of the thoughts H4284 CFP of the heart H3824 of thy people H5971 , and prepare H3559 their heart H3824 unto H413 thee :
19 And give H5414 unto Solomon H8010 my son H1121 a perfect H8003 heart H3824 NMS , to keep H8104 thy commandments H4687 , thy testimonies H5715 , and thy statutes H2706 , and to do H6213 all H3605 these things , and to build H1129 the palace H1002 , for the which H834 RPRO I have made provision H3559 .
20 And David H1732 said H559 W-VQY3MS to all H3605 L-CMS the congregation H6951 , Now H4994 IJEC bless H1288 the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 . And all H3605 the congregation H6951 blessed H1288 the LORD H3068 L-EDS God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 , and bowed down their heads H6915 , and worshiped H7812 the LORD H3068 L-EDS , and the king H4428 .
21 And they sacrificed H2076 sacrifices H2077 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , and offered H5927 burnt offerings H5930 CFP unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , on the morrow H4283 after that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 D-AMS , even a thousand H505 W-BMS bullocks H6499 , a thousand H505 W-BMS rams H352 NMP , and a thousand H505 W-BMS lambs H3532 , with their drink offerings H5262 , and sacrifices H2077 in abundance H7230 LD-NMS for all H3605 L-CMS Israel H3478 LMS :
22 And did eat H398 W-VQY3MP and drink H8354 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS on that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS with great H1419 AFS gladness H8057 B-NFS . And they made H4427 Solomon H8010 the son H1121 CMS of David H1732 king the second time H8145 CFS , and anointed H4886 him unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS to be the chief governor H5057 , and Zadok H6659 to be priest H3548 .
23 Then Solomon H8010 MMS sat H3427 W-VQY3MS on H5921 PREP the throne H3678 of the LORD H3068 EDS as king H4428 L-CMS instead of H8478 PREP David H1732 his father H1 CMS-3MS , and prospered H6743 ; and all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 LMS obeyed H8085 him .
24 And all H3605 NMS the princes H8269 , and the mighty men H1368 , and all H3605 NMS the sons H1121 likewise H1571 W-CONJ of king H4428 D-NMS David H1732 , submitted H5414 themselves unto H8478 NMS Solomon H8010 MMS the king H4428 .
25 And the LORD H3068 EDS magnified H1431 Solomon H8010 MMS exceedingly H4605 in the sight H5869 of all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 , and bestowed H5414 W-VQQ3MS upon H5921 PREP-3MS him such royal H4438 CFP majesty H1935 CMS as H834 RPRO had not H3808 ADV been H1961 VQQ3MS on H5921 PREP-3MS any H3605 NMS king H4428 NMS before H6440 L-CMP-3MS him in H5921 PREP-3MS Israel H3478 LMS .
26 Thus David H1732 the son H1121 of Jesse H3448 reigned H4427 over H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 LMS .
27 And the time H3117 that H834 RPRO he reigned H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 was forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS ; seven H7651 MFS years H8141 NFP reigned H4427 he in Hebron H2275 B-EFS , and thirty H7970 MMP and three H7969 years reigned H4427 he in Jerusalem H3389 .
28 And he died H4191 W-VQY3MS in a good old age H7872 , full H7649 of days H3117 NMP , riches H6239 , and honor H3519 : and Solomon H8010 MMS his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
29 Now the acts H1697 of David H1732 the king H4428 D-NMS , first H7223 and last H314 , behold H2009 , they are written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H1697 CMP of Samuel H8050 the seer H7203 , and in H5921 PREP the book H1697 CMP of Nathan H5416 the prophet H5030 , and in H5921 PREP the book H1697 CMP of Gad H1410 the seer H2374 ,
30 With H5973 PREP all H3605 NMS his reign H4438 CFP-3MS and his might H1369 , and the times H6256 that H834 RPRO went over H5674 VQQ3MP him , and over H5921 PREP-3MS Israel H3478 , and over H5921 PREP-3MS all H3605 NMS the kingdoms H4467 of the countries H776 .
