Exodus 3:1 (NRSV) New Revised Standard Version

1 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.
3 Then Moses said, "I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not burned up."
4 When the LORD saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."
5 Then he said, "Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."
6 He said further, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
7 Then the LORD said, "I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings,
8 and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9 The cry of the Israelites has now come to me; I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them.
10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt."
11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"
12 He said, "I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God on this mountain."
13 But Moses said to God, "If I come to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' what shall I say to them?"
14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." He said further, "Thus you shall say to the Israelites, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"
15 God also said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you': This is my name forever, and this my title for all generations.
16 Go and assemble the elders of Israel, and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying: I have given heed to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt.
17 I declare that I will bring you up out of the misery of Egypt, to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.'
18 They will listen to your voice; and you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us; let us now go a three days' journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.'
19 I know, however, that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand.
20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders that I will perform in it; after that he will let you go.
21 I will bring this people into such favor with the Egyptians that, when you go, you will not go empty-handed;
22 each woman shall ask her neighbor and any woman living in the neighbor's house for jewelry of silver and of gold, and clothing, and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters; and so you shall plunder the Egyptians."

2 And the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS appeared H7200 W-VIY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him in a flame H3827 of fire H784 CMS out of the midst H8432 of a bush H5572 : and he looked H7200 W-VIY3MS , and , behold H2009 IJEC , the bush H5572 burned H1197 with fire H784 , and the bush H5572 was not H369 consumed H398 .
3 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will now H4994 IJEC turn aside H5493 , and see H7200 this H2088 D-PMS great H1419 D-AMS sight H4758 , why H4069 IPRO the bush H5572 is not H3808 NADV burnt H1197 .
4 And when the LORD H3068 EDS saw H7200 W-VIY3MS that H3588 CONJ he turned aside H5493 to see H7200 W-VIY3MS , God H430 EDP called H7121 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him out of the midst H8432 of the bush H5572 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Moses H4872 , Moses H4872 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Here H2009 am I .
5 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Draw not nigh H7126 hither H1988 : put off H5394 thy shoes H5275 from off H5921 M-PREP thy feet H7272 , for H3588 CONJ the place H4725 D-NMS whereon H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS standest H5975 is holy H6944 ground H127 .
6 Moreover he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I H595 PPRO-1MS am the God H430 CDP of thy father H1 NMS , the God H430 CDP of Abraham H85 , the God H430 CDP of Isaac H3327 , and the God H430 of Jacob H3290 . And Moses H4872 hid H5641 W-VHY3MS his face H6440 CMP-3MS ; for H3588 CONJ he was afraid H3372 VQQ3MS to look H5027 upon H413 PREP God H430 .
7 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , I have surely seen H7200 the affliction H6040 of my people H5971 which H834 RPRO are in Egypt H4714 , and have heard H8085 VQQ1MS their cry H6818 by reason of M-CMP their taskmasters H5065 ; for H3588 CONJ I know H3045 VQY1MS their sorrows H4341 ;
8 And I am come down H3381 to deliver H5337 them out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of the Egyptians H4714 , and to bring them up H5927 out of H4480 PREP that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS land H776 D-GFS unto H413 PREP a good H2896 NFS land H776 GFS and a large H7342 W-AFS , unto H413 PREP a land H776 GFS flowing H2100 with milk H2461 NMS and honey H1706 ; unto H413 PREP the place H4725 CMS of the Canaanites H3669 , and the Hittites H2850 , and the Amorites H567 , and the Perizzites H6522 WD-EMS , and the Hivites H2340 , and the Jebusites H2983 .
9 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore , behold H2009 IJEC , the cry H6818 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 is come H935 VQQ3FS unto H413 me : and I have also H1571 W-CONJ seen H7200 VQQ1MS the oppression H3906 wherewith H834 RPRO the Egyptians H4714 oppress H3905 them .
10 Come H1980 VQI2MS-3FS now H6258 W-ADV therefore , and I will send H7971 thee unto H413 PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS , that thou mayest bring forth my people H5971 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 out of Egypt H4714 .
11 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP God H430 D-EDP , Who H4310 IPRO am I H595 PPRO-1MS , that H3588 CONJ I should go H1980 VQY1MS unto H413 PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS , and that H3588 CONJ I should bring forth the children H1121 of Israel H3478 out of Egypt H4714 ?
12 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Certainly H3588 CONJ I will be H1961 VQY1MS with H5973 PREP-2FS thee ; and this H2088 W-PMS shall be a token H226 unto thee , that H3588 CONJ I H595 PPRO-1MS have sent H7971 thee : When thou hast brought forth the people H5971 out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , ye shall serve H5647 God H430 D-EDP upon H5921 PREP this H2088 D-PMS mountain H2022 .
13 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP God H430 D-NAME-4MP , Behold H2009 IJEC , when I H595 PPRO-1MS come H935 unto H413 PREP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , and shall say H559 W-VQY3MS unto them , The God H430 CDP of your fathers H1 hath sent H7971 me unto H413 PREP you ; and they shall say H559 W-VQY3MS to me , What H4100 IPRO is his name H8034 ? what H4100 IPRO shall I say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP them ?
14 And God H430 EDP said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , I AM H1961 VQY1MS THAT H834 RPRO I AM H1961 VQY1MS : and he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thus H3541 shalt thou say H559 W-VQY3MS unto the children H1121 L-CMP of Israel H3478 , I AM H1961 VQY1MS hath sent H7971 me unto H413 PREP you .
15 And God H430 EDP said H559 W-VQY3MS moreover H5750 ADV unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Thus H3541 shalt thou say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , The LORD H3068 EDS God H430 NAME-4MP of your fathers H1 , the God H430 NAME-4MP of Abraham H85 , the God H430 NAME-4MP of Isaac H3327 , and the God H430 NAME-4MP of Jacob H3290 , hath sent H7971 me unto H413 PREP you : this H2088 DPRO is my name H8034 forever H5769 L-NMS , and this H2088 W-PMS is my memorial H2143 unto all generations H1755 L-NMS .
16 Go H1980 VQI2MS , and gather H622 the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 together , and say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MS them , The LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of your fathers H1 , the God H430 CDP of Abraham H85 , of Isaac H3327 , and of Jacob H3290 , appeared H7200 unto H413 PREP-1MS me , saying H559 L-VQFC , I have surely visited H6485 you , and seen that which is done H6213 to you in Egypt H4714 :
17 And I have said H559 W-VQY1MS , I will bring you up H5927 out of the affliction H6040 of Egypt H4714 EFS unto H413 PREP the land H776 GFS of the Canaanites H3669 , and the Hittites H2850 , and the Amorites H567 , and the Perizzites H6522 WD-EMS , and the Hivites H2340 , and the Jebusites H2983 , unto H413 PREP a land H776 GFS flowing H2100 with milk H2461 NMS and honey H1706 .
18 And they shall hearken H8085 to thy voice H6963 : and thou shalt come H935 W-VQQ2MS , thou H859 PPRO-2MS and the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 , unto H413 PREP the king H4428 NMS of Egypt H4714 EFS , and ye shall say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MS him , The LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of the Hebrews H5680 hath met H7136 with H5921 PREP-1MP us : and now H6258 W-ADV let us go H1980 , we beseech thee H4994 IJEC , three H7969 BMS days H3117 NMP \' journey H1870 NMS into the wilderness H4057 , that we may sacrifice H2076 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS our God H430 .
19 And I H589 W-PPRO-1MS am sure H3045 VQY1MS that H3588 CONJ the king H4428 NMS of Egypt H4714 EFS will not H3808 ADV let H5414 VHFA you go H1980 L-VQFC , no H3808 W-NADV , not by a mighty H2389 hand H3027 .
20 And I will stretch out H7971 my hand H3027 CFS-1MS , and smite H5221 Egypt H4714 with all H3605 my wonders H6381 which H834 RPRO I will do H6213 in the midst H7130 thereof : and after H310 that H3651 ADV he will let you go H7971 .
21 And I will give H5414 this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 favor H2580 NMS in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the Egyptians H4714 : and it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , that , when H3588 CONJ ye go H1980 , ye shall not H3808 NADV go H1980 empty H7387 :
22 But every woman H802 NFS shall borrow H7592 of her neighbor H7934 , and of her that sojourneth H1481 in her house H1004 , jewels H3627 of silver H3701 , and jewels H3627 of gold H2091 NMS , and raiment H8071 : and ye shall put H7760 them upon H5921 PREP your sons H1121 , and upon H5921 PREP your daughters H1323 ; and ye shall spoil H5337 the Egyptians H4714 .
