John 20:1 (NRSV) New Revised Standard Version

1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.
2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him."
3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb.
4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
5 He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in.
6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there,
7 and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself.
8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;
9 for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
10 Then the disciples returned to their homes.
11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb;
12 and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet.
13 They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him."
14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."
16 Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" (which means Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.
19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."
20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe."
26 A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."
27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe."
28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"
29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe."
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.
31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

2 Then G3767 CONJ she runneth G5143 V-PAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S to G4314 PREP Simon G4613 N-ASM Peter G4074 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ to G4314 PREP the G3588 T-ASM other G243 A-ASM disciple G3101 N-ASM , whom G3588 T-NSM Jesus G2424 N-NSM loved G5368 V-IAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , They have taken away G142 V-AAI-3P the G3588 T-ASM Lord G2962 N-ASM out G1537 PREP of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN sepulcher G3419 N-GSN , and G2532 CONJ we know G1492 V-RAI-1P not G3756 PRT-N where G4226 PRT-I they have laid G5087 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM .
3 Peter G4074 N-NSM therefore G3767 CONJ went forth G1831 V-2AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ that other G243 A-NSM disciple G3101 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ came G2064 V-INI-3P to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sepulcher G3419 N-ASN .
4 So G1161 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM ran G5143 V-IAI-3P both G1417 A-NUI together G3674 ADV : and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM other G243 A-NSM disciple G3101 N-NSM did outrun G4390 V-2AAI-3S Peter G4074 N-GSM and G2532 CONJ came G2064 V-2AAI-3S first G4413 A-NSM to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sepulcher G3419 N-ASN .
5 And G2532 CONJ he stooping down G3879 V-AAP-NSM , and looking in , saw G991 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APN linen clothes G3608 N-APN lying G2749 V-PNP-APN ; yet G3305 CONJ went he not in V-2AAI-3S .
6 Then G3767 CONJ cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S Simon G4613 N-NSM Peter G4074 N-NSM following G190 V-PAP-NSM him G846 P-DSM , and G2532 CONJ went G1525 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sepulcher G3419 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ seeth G2334 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APN linen clothes G3608 N-APN lie G2749 V-PNP-APN ,
7 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-ASN napkin G4676 N-ASN , that G3739 R-NSN was G2258 V-IXI-3S about G1909 PREP his G3588 T-GSF head G2776 N-GSF , not G3756 PRT-N lying G2749 V-PNP-ASN with G3326 PREP the G3588 T-GPN linen clothes G3608 N-GPN , but G235 CONJ wrapped together G1794 V-RPP-ASN in G1519 PREP a G1520 A-ASM place G5117 N-ASM by itself G5565 ADV .
8 Then G5119 ADV went in G1525 V-2AAI-3S also G2532 CONJ that G3588 T-NSM other G243 A-NSM disciple G3101 N-NSM , which came G2064 V-2AAP-NSM first G4413 A-NSM to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sepulcher G3419 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ he saw G1491 , and G2532 CONJ believed G4100 V-AAI-3S .
9 For G1063 CONJ as yet they knew not G3764 ADV the G3588 T-ASF Scripture G1124 N-ASF , that G3754 CONJ he G846 P-ASM must G1163 V-PQI-3S rise again G450 V-2AAN from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM .
10 Then G3767 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM went away G565 V-2AAI-3P again G3825 ADV unto G4314 PREP their own home G1438 F-3APM .
11 But G1161 CONJ Mary G3137 N-NSF stood G2476 V-LAI-3S without G1854 ADV at G4314 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sepulcher G3419 N-ASN weeping G2799 V-PAP-NSF : and G3767 CONJ as G5613 ADV she wept G2799 V-IAI-3S , she stooped down G3879 V-AAI-3S , and looked into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN sepulcher G3419 N-ASN ,
12 And G2532 CONJ seeth G2334 V-PAI-3S two G1417 A-NUI angels G32 N-APM in G1722 PREP white G3022 A-DPN sitting G2516 V-PNP-APM , the one G1520 A-ASM at G4314 PREP the G3588 T-DSF head G2776 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ the other G1520 A-ASM at G4314 PREP the G3588 T-DPM feet G4228 N-DPM , where G3699 ADV the G3588 T-NSN body G4983 N-NSN of Jesus G2424 N-GSM had lain G2749 V-INI-3S .
13 And G2532 CONJ they G1565 D-NPM say G3004 V-PAI-3P unto her G846 P-DSF , Woman G1135 N-VSF , why G5101 I-ASN weepest G2799 V-PAI-2S thou ? She saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Because G3754 CONJ they have taken away G142 V-AAI-3P my G3588 T-ASM Lord G2962 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ I know G1492 V-RAI-1S not G3756 PRT-N where G4226 PRT-I they have laid G5087 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-ASM .
14 And G2532 CONJ when she had thus G5023 D-APN said G2036 V-2AAP-NSF , she turned G4762 V-2API-3S herself back G1519 PREP , and G2532 CONJ saw G2334 V-PAI-3S Jesus G2424 N-ASM standing G2476 V-RAP-ASM , and G2532 CONJ knew G1492 V-LAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N that G3754 CONJ it was G2076 V-PXI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM .
15 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Woman G1135 N-VSF , why G5101 I-NSN weepest G2799 V-PAI-2S thou ? whom G5101 I-ASM seekest G2212 V-PAI-2S thou ? She G1565 D-NSF , supposing G1380 V-PAP-NSF him G3754 CONJ to be G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM gardener G2780 N-NSM , saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Sir G2962 N-VSM , if G1487 COND thou G4771 P-2NS have borne G941 V-AAI-2S him G846 P-ASM hence , tell G2036 V-2AAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS where G4226 PRT-I thou hast laid G5087 V-AAI-2S him G846 P-ASM , and I G2504 P-1NS-C will take him away G142 V-FAI-1S .
16 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Mary G3137 N-VSF . She G1565 D-NSF turned G4762 V-2APP-NSF herself , and saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Rabboni G4462 ARAM ; which is to say G3739 R-NSN , Master G1320 N-VSM .
17 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Touch G680 V-PMM-2S me G3450 P-1GS not G3361 PRT-N ; for G1063 CONJ I am not yet G3768 ADV ascended G305 V-RAI-1S to G4314 PREP my G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM : but G1161 CONJ go G4198 V-PNM-2S to G4314 PREP my G3588 T-APM brethren G80 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ say G2036 V-2AAM-2S unto them G846 P-DPM , I ascend G305 V-PAI-1S unto G4314 PREP my G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ your G5216 P-2GP Father G3962 N-ASM ; and G2532 CONJ to my G3450 P-1GS God G2316 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ your G5216 P-2GP God G2316 N-ASM .
18 Mary G3137 N-NSF Magdalene G3094 N-NSF came G2064 V-PNI-3S and told G518 V-PAP-NSF the G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM that G3754 CONJ she had seen G3708 V-RAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM Lord G2962 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ that he had spoken G2036 V-2AAI-3S these things G5023 D-APN unto her G846 P-DSF .

21 Then G3767 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM to them G846 P-DPM again G3825 ADV , Peace G1515 N-NSF be unto you G5213 P-2DP : as G2531 ADV my Father G3962 N-NSM hath sent G649 V-RAI-3S me G3165 P-1AS , even so send I G2504 P-1NS-C you G5209 P-2AP .
22 And G2532 CONJ when he had said G2036 V-2AAP-NSM this G5124 D-ASN , he breathed on G1720 V-AAI-3S them , and G2532 CONJ saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Receive G2983 V-2AAM-2P ye the Holy G40 A-ASN Ghost G4151 N-ASN :
23 Whose soever G5100 X-GPM sins G266 N-APF ye remit G863 V-2AAS-2P , they are remitted G863 V-PPI-3P unto them G846 P-DPM ; and whose soever G5100 X-GPM sins ye retain G2902 V-PAS-2P , they are retained G2902 V-RPI-3P .
24 But G1161 CONJ Thomas G2381 N-NSM , one G1520 A-NSM of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GPM twelve G1427 A-NUI , called G3004 V-PPP-NSM Didymus G1324 N-NSM , was G2258 V-IXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N with G3326 PREP them G846 P-GPM when G3753 ADV Jesus G2424 N-NSM came G2064 V-2AAI-3S .
25 The G3588 T-NPM other G243 A-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM therefore G3767 CONJ said G3004 V-IAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , We have seen G3708 V-RAI-1P the G3588 T-ASM Lord G2962 N-ASM . But G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Except G3362 I shall see G1492 V-2AAS-1S in G1722 PREP his G3588 T-DPF hands G5495 N-DPF the G3588 T-ASM print G5179 N-ASM of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM nails G2247 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ put G906 V-2AAS-1S my G3588 T-ASM finger G1147 N-ASM into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM print G5179 N-ASM of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM nails G2247 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ thrust G906 V-2AAS-1S my G3588 T-ASF hand G5495 N-ASF into G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASF side G4125 N-ASF , I will not G3364 believe G4100 V-FAI-1S .
26 And G2532 CONJ after G3326 PREP eight G3638 A-NUI days G2250 N-APF again G3825 ADV his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM were G2258 V-IXI-3P within G2080 ADV , and G2532 CONJ Thomas G2381 N-NSM with G3326 PREP them G846 P-GPM : then came G2064 V-PNI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM , the G3588 T-GPF doors G2374 N-GPF being shut G2808 V-RPP-GPM , and G2532 CONJ stood G2476 V-2AAI-3S in G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN midst G3319 A-ASN , and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Peace G1515 N-NSF , be unto you G5213 P-2DP .
27 Then G1534 ADV saith G3004 V-PAI-3S he to Thomas G2381 N-DSM , Reach G5342 V-PAM-2S hither G5602 ADV thy G3588 T-ASM finger G1147 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ behold G1492 V-AAM-2S my G3588 T-APF hands G5495 N-APF ; and G2532 CONJ reach G5342 V-PAM-2S hither thy G3588 T-ASF hand G5495 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ thrust G906 V-2AAM-2S it into G1519 PREP my G3588 T-ASF side G4125 N-ASF : and G2532 CONJ be G1096 V-PNM-2S not G3361 PRT-N faithless G571 A-NSM , but G235 CONJ believing G4103 A-NSM .
28 And G2532 CONJ Thomas G2381 N-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , My G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ my G3588 T-NSM God G2316 N-NSM .
29 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Thomas G2381 , because G3754 CONJ thou hast seen G3708 V-RAI-2S me G3165 P-1AS , thou hast believed G4100 V-RAI-2S : blessed G3107 A-NPM are they that have not seen G1492 V-2AAP-NPM , and G2532 CONJ yet have believed G4100 V-AAP-NPM .
30 And G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-APN other G243 A-APN signs G4592 N-APN truly G3303 PRT did G4160 V-AAI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM in the presence G1799 ADV of G3588 T-GPM his G3588 T-GPM disciples G3101 N-GPM , which G3739 R-NPN are G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N written G1125 V-RPP-NPN in G1722 PREP this G3588 T-DSN book G975 N-DSN :
31 But G1161 CONJ these G5023 D-NPN are written G1125 V-RPI-3S , that G2443 CONJ ye might believe G4100 V-AAS-2P that G3754 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM Christ G5547 N-NSM , the G3588 T-NSM Son G5207 N-NSM of God G2316 N-GSM ; and G2532 CONJ that G2443 CONJ believing G4100 V-PAP-NPM ye might have G2192 V-PAS-2P life G2222 N-ASF through G1722 PREP his G3588 T-DSN name G3686 N-DSN .
