Ezekiel 34:1 (NRSV) New Revised Standard Version

1 The word of the LORD came to me:
2 Mortal, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel: prophesy, and say to them-- to the shepherds: Thus says the Lord GOD: Ah, you shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep?
3 You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fatlings; but you do not feed the sheep.
4 You have not strengthened the weak, you have not healed the sick, you have not bound up the injured, you have not brought back the strayed, you have not sought the lost, but with force and harshness you have ruled them.
5 So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd; and scattered, they became food for all the wild animals.
6 My sheep were scattered, they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill; my sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with no one to search or seek for them.
7 Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
8 As I live, says the Lord GOD, because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild animals, since there was no shepherd; and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep;
9 therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
10 Thus says the Lord GOD, I am against the shepherds; and I will demand my sheep at their hand, and put a stop to their feeding the sheep; no longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, so that they may not be food for them.
11 For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out.
12 As shepherds seek out their flocks when they are among their scattered sheep, so I will seek out my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.
13 I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited parts of the land.
14 I will feed them with good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and they shall feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord GOD.
16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with justice.
17 As for you, my flock, thus says the Lord GOD: I shall judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats:
18 Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture, but you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pasture? When you drink of clear water, must you foul the rest with your feet?
19 And must my sheep eat what you have trodden with your feet, and drink what you have fouled with your feet?
20 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD to them: I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
21 Because you pushed with flank and shoulder, and butted at all the weak animals with your horns until you scattered them far and wide,
22 I will save my flock, and they shall no longer be ravaged; and I will judge between sheep and sheep.
23 I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd.
24 And I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken.
25 I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild animals from the land, so that they may live in the wild and sleep in the woods securely.
26 I will make them and the region around my hill a blessing; and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing.
27 The trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase. They shall be secure on their soil; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke, and save them from the hands of those who enslaved them.
28 They shall no more be plunder for the nations, nor shall the animals of the land devour them; they shall live in safety, and no one shall make them afraid.
29 I will provide for them a splendid vegetation so that they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer suffer the insults of the nations.
30 They shall know that I, the LORD their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, says the Lord GOD.
31 You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture and I am your God, says the Lord GOD.

2 Son H1121 of man H120 NMS , prophesy H5012 against H5921 PREP the shepherds H7462 of Israel H3478 , prophesy H5012 , and say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MP them , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 unto the shepherds H7462 ; Woe H1945 be to the shepherds H7462 of Israel H3478 that H834 RPRO do feed H1961 VQQ3MP themselves ! should not H3808 D-NPAR the shepherds H7462 feed H7462 VQY3MP the flocks H6629 ?
3 Ye eat H398 the fat H2459 , and ye clothe H3847 you with H854 the wool H6785 , ye kill H2076 them that are fed H1277 : but ye feed H7462 not H3808 NADV the flock H6629 .
4 The diseased H2470 have ye not H3808 NADV strengthened H2388 , neither H3808 ADV have ye healed H7495 that which was sick H2470 , neither H3808 NADV have ye bound up H2280 that which was broken H7665 , neither H3808 NADV have ye brought again H7725 that which was driven away H5080 , neither H3808 NADV have ye sought H1245 that which was lost H6 ; but with force H2394 and with cruelty H6531 have ye ruled H7287 them .
5 And they were scattered H6327 , because there is no H1097 M-NPAR shepherd H7462 VQPMS : and they became H1961 meat H402 L-NFS to all H3605 L-CMS the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS , when they were scattered H6327 .
6 My sheep H6629 wandered H7686 through all H3605 NMS the mountains H2022 , and upon H5921 W-PREP every H3605 NMS high H7311 VQPFS hill H1389 : yea , my flock H6629 was scattered H6327 VNQ3MP upon H5921 W-PREP all H3605 NMS the face H6440 CMP of the earth H776 D-GFS , and none H369 W-NPAR did search H1875 or seek H1245 after them .
7 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , ye shepherds H7462 , hear H8085 VQI2MP the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ;
8 As I H589 PPRO-1MS live H2416 AMS , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 , surely H518 PART because H3282 ADV my flock H6629 became H1961 a prey H957 , and my flock H6629 became H1961 meat H402 L-NFS to every H3605 L-CMS beast H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS , because there was no H369 shepherd H7462 VQPMS , neither H3808 NADV did my shepherds H7462 search H1875 for my flock H6629 , but the shepherds H7462 fed H7462 themselves , and fed H7462 not H3808 ADV my flock H6629 ;
9 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , O ye shepherds H7462 , hear H8085 VQI2MP the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ;
10 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; Behold H2009 , I am against H413 PREP the shepherds H7462 ; and I will require H1875 my flock H6629 at their hand H3027 , and cause them to cease H7673 from feeding H7462 the flock H6629 NMS ; neither H3808 W-NPAR shall the shepherds H7462 VQY3MP feed H7462 themselves any more H5750 ADV ; for I will deliver H5337 my flock H6629 from their mouth H6310 M-CMS-3MP , that they may not H3808 W-NPAR be H1961 meat H402 L-NFS for them .
11 For H3588 CONJ thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; Behold H2009 , I , even I H589 PPRO-1MS , will both search H1875 my sheep H6629 , and seek them out H1239 .
12 As a shepherd H7462 VQPMS seeketh out H1243 his flock H5739 in the day H3117 B-NMS that he is H1961 among H8432 his sheep H6629 GFS-3MS that are scattered H6566 ; so H3651 ADV will I seek out H1239 my sheep H6629 , and will deliver H5337 them out of all H3605 M-CMS places H4725 where H834 RPRO they have been scattered H6327 VNQ3MP in the cloudy H6051 NMS and dark H6205 day H3117 B-NMS .
13 And I will bring them out H3318 from H4480 PREP the people H5971 , and gather H6908 them from H4480 PREP the countries H776 , and will bring H935 them to H413 PREP their own land H127 , and feed H7462 them upon H413 PREP the mountains H2022 CMP of Israel H3478 by the rivers H650 , and in all H3605 the inhabited places H4186 of the country H776 D-GFS .
14 I will feed H7462 them in a good H2896 pasture H4829 , and upon the high H4791 mountains H2022 of Israel H3478 shall their fold H5116 be H1961 VQY3MS : there H8033 ADV shall they lie H7257 in a good H2896 fold H5116 , and in a fat H8082 pasture H4829 shall they feed H7462 upon H413 PREP the mountains H2022 CMP of Israel H3478 LMS .
15 I H589 PPRO-1MS will feed H7462 my flock H6629 , and I H589 PPRO-1MS will cause them to lie down H7257 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
16 I will seek H1245 that which was lost H6 , and bring again H7725 that which was driven away H5080 , and will bind up H2280 that which was broken H7665 , and will strengthen H2388 that which was sick H2470 : but I will destroy H8045 the fat H8082 and the strong H2389 ; I will feed H7462 them with judgment H4941 .
17 And as for you H859 , O my flock H6629 , thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; Behold H2009 , I judge H8199 between H996 cattle H7716 and cattle H7716 , between the rams H352 and the he goats H6260 .
18 Seemeth it a small thing H4592 D-AMS unto H4480 M-PPRO-2MS you to have eaten up H7462 the good H2896 D-NMS pasture H4829 , but ye must tread down H7429 with your feet H7272 the residue H3499 of your pastures H4829 ? and to have drunk H8354 of the deep H4950 waters H4325 OMD , but ye must foul H7515 the residue H3498 with your feet H7272 ?
19 And as for my flock H6629 , they eat H7462 that which ye have trodden H4823 with your feet H7272 ; and they drink H8354 that which ye have fouled H4833 with your feet H7272 .
20 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 unto H413 PREP-3MP them ; Behold H2009 , I H589 PPRO-1MS , even I , will judge H8199 between H996 W-PREP the fat H1277 cattle H7716 and between H996 W-PREP the lean H7330 cattle H7716 .
21 Because H3282 ADV ye have thrust H1920 with side H6654 and with shoulder H3802 , and pushed H5055 all H3605 NMS the diseased H2470 with your horns H7161 , till H5704 PREP ye have scattered H6327 them abroad H413 PREP ;
22 Therefore will I save H3467 my flock H6629 , and they shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV be H1961 a prey H957 ; and I will judge H8199 between H996 PREP cattle H7716 and cattle H7716 .
23 And I will set up H6965 W-VHQ1MS one H259 MMS shepherd H7462 VQPMS over H5921 PREP-3MP them , and he shall feed H7462 them , even my servant H5650 CMS-1MS David H1732 ; he shall feed H7462 them , and he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall be H1961 VQY3MS their shepherd H7462 .
24 And I H589 W-PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS will be H1961 VQY1MS their God H430 L-NMP , and my servant H5650 David H1732 a prince H5387 among H8432 them ; I H589 W-PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS have spoken H1696 it .
25 And I will make H3772 with them a covenant H1285 NFS of peace H7965 NMS , and will cause the evil H7451 AFS beasts H2416 AFS to cease H7673 out of H4480 PREP the land H776 D-GFS : and they shall dwell H3427 safely H983 L-NMS in the wilderness H4057 , and sleep H3462 in the woods H3293 .
26 And I will make H5414 them and the places round about H5439 my hill H1389 a blessing H1293 ; and I will cause the shower H1653 D-NMS to come down H3381 in his season H6256 B-CFS-3MS ; there shall be H1961 VQY3MP showers H1653 of blessing H1293 .
27 And the tree H6086 NMS of the field H7704 D-NMS shall yield H5414 W-VQQ3MS her fruit H6529 NMS-3MS , and the earth H776 WD-GFS shall yield H5414 W-VQQ3MS her increase H2981 , and they shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS safe H983 L-NMS in H5921 PREP their land H127 , and shall know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS , when I have broken H7665 the bands H4133 of their yoke H5923 , and delivered H5337 them out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of those that served H5647 themselves of them .
28 And they shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV be H1961 VQY3MP a prey H957 to the heathen H1471 LD-NMP , neither H3808 W-NPAR shall the beast H2416 W-CFS of the land H776 D-GFS devour H398 them ; but they shall dwell H3427 safely H983 L-NMS , and none H369 W-NPAR shall make them afraid H2729 .
29 And I will raise up H6965 W-VHQ1MS for them a plant H4302 of renown H8034 , and they shall be H1961 VQY3MP no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV consumed H622 with hunger H7458 NMS in the land H776 B-NFS , neither H3808 W-NPAR bear H5375 VQY3MP the shame H3639 of the heathen H1471 any more H5750 ADV .
30 Thus shall they know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS their God H430 am with H854 PREP-3MP them , and that they H1992 , even the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 , are my people H5971 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
31 And ye H859 my flock H6629 , the flock H6629 NMS of my pasture H4830 , are men H120 NMS , and I H589 PPRO-1MS am your God H430 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 .
